I have visited Testal 2x since this last review, and was a little bummed at my visits. I really enjoy eating out and having a consistent experience as it truly is a treat, but these past times fell a little flat. First visit (since my review), we ordered the Vegan Chile Rellano Burrito and the Vegan Chorizo Burrito, both still yummy. We decided to order Chips and Salsa as well...she gave us a small plate of chips, and said that the "salsa" it came with was the squeeze bottles that they have on the counter next to the register, on ice in a tub...so, you're basically paying $5 for a very small amount of chips, as the salsa is what you get for your burrito anyway. I apologized for the confusion and asked for a refund. The place was empty, and the energy felt a little stagnant :( Second visit, we actually walked out and got food at Earth instead. Hands down the best burritos I've ever had! If you haven't tried the chicharrón burrito with verde salsa, you're seriously missing out. The pork is tender, and the green salsa adds the perfect kick without overpowering the flavor. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and full of flavor. Had a carne asada burrito at Testal. It was relatively inexpensive at around six bucks. That little burrito reminded me why getting what you pay for is still something to keep in mind. Was it bad? No, I've had worse. Was it good? Sure, I was hungry and it was food. Will I come back? Probably not. It's counter service, so you order and seat yourself. Ambience is ok, it's in an odd location on Grand Ave with a bunch of weird businesses in the complex behind it. Lots of parking was a plus. read more

I've been to this area before and thought all the restaurants looked so cool! Stopped in before a concert tonight and it was a good place to go because there was no wait and our food was ready quick. I love that they have a good variety of vegan options. I got the vegan frijol and vegan rajas burritos. They were super filling. I liked the bean one better but wish the vegan cheese was a little more melty. The rajas was good but I think the filling would've tasted better in a bowl. The drink I got was really delicious, tasted like limeade but with chia seeds, which I love. Came here for lunch after a friend recommended their bean burrito. I ended up ordering the 3 tacos though. Chicharron Colorado Picadillo The side beans was delicious!! And I love their mild green salsa. It was very flavorful. The red hot salsa was good, not too fiery hot but definitely warm. The tacos were delicious but I wouldn't order the chicharron again. I guess I was expecting some crunch because that's traditionally how I've eaten chicharron. But it just felt like I was biting into a mouthful of fat. Chewy and I didn't like the texture. The corn tortillas were SO delicious. Soft and so flavorful. I wonder if they make them? They taste very fresh. Atmosphere is very chill and relaxing. They have an outdoor patio as well. Good place for smaller, simpler, no-frills burritos, with lots of vegan options. I ordered a vegan breakfast burrito ($5.75) online, and it was ready 20 minutes later for pick-up. It comes with a choice of red or green salsa and/or sour cream (vegan sour cream is an additional $0.50) -- I just did red salsa. The burrito comes with soyrizo, tofu scramble and potatoes. It more resembles a taquito in how small it is -- I guess it's just a mini-burrito. Tasty enough, and the red spicy salsa is a nice addition. We were on our way walking to a vegan restaurant when we passed Testal (northern) Mexican food. We looked at the menu for a split second before easily changing our minds- and we were happy we did. The staff members educated us on the area he was from in Mexico (my apologies, I don't remember exactly where-but north). We randomly stopped at this restaurant however one quick look at the menu and I was convinced by the burritos. I had the Deshebrada burrito and the meat was so flavorful. I also ordered an Iskiate which I had never tried before. This is a popular drink in Chihuahua, Mexico and I can see why. My first time coming here i was exited about the gorditas but came to find they dont have gorditas. However it is not a deal breaker there is buritos and i will say the food took me back to home, i am from El Paso Texas and i grew up with this flavors. I tasted a burito of colorado, chicharon, desebrada and chile en rajas. The first three they are a must have you cant go wrong with any of them, however on the other hand i just did not like the taste of the chile en rajas flavor. It was the chile used that had a biter taste it was like dry chile and poblano was used for the making of the giso. The drinks are good i had a guacamaya and a shot of sotol asienda chihuahua. At the end of the day i do give it a 5 star because my over all experience was fabulous and everyones taste buds are different. read more

Ladies and gentlemen, Testal is 100% legit with what they're doing. They offer authentic Mexican food that's from the Chihuahua state of Mexico and you can really tell that the food has a "homemade like grandma made" feel. I was really surprised how cheap the food is which allows you to order more than one burrito so you can try more flavors. My favorite from this visit has to be the Colorado burrito although the green Chile chicharron was up there. Everything is made fresh and even the tortillas are amazing. My Mexican parents would appreciate a place like this. They also serve vegan options which is super dope. The drink that everyone should try from here is the Cebada, you might even like it more than horchata. Great vibes here and the owner is very friendly. I was in the mood for a good vegan burrito and I got it!! I ordered the Burrito De Picadillo - vegan. It's vegan ground beef, papas(potatoes), and I added frijoles(beans). Their freshly made agua frescas were also delicious. I had the Cebada...corn and wheat drink with oat milk and vanilla. Yum! Their salsa is super tasty too. This is a wonderful family run business, they have amazing food from the Chihuahua region of Mexico. It's the best, authentic, reasonable and the owners are great! Service is also great, every time I go there the cashier chats me up. I love the relleno burrito bowl with added meat of some kind, and two homemade tortillas. My first time visiting Testal and because I failed to do my research prior to arriving, I was pleasantly shocked when I realized the restaurant was all about the beautiful state of Chihuahua, Mexico. My family is from a small town in Chihuahua and it's not typical to see items on a restaurant menu with the same name as food items I eat at home. I had the three taco entree with each taco being a different flavor. Taking a bite into the Chile Colorado taco reminded me so much of my childhood. I also ordered their La Fresa mixed drink and regret not ordering a mixed drink with Sotol (which gives me an excuse to go back). Service was fast and the only negative thing I had to say was that there was not much indoor seating. With it being the middle of summer, no way I was going to dine outside. Not sure what all the hype is all about. This was a total let down for me. If you like fillers like beans and potatoes, then come here as everything comes with it. We ordered burritos and bowls of rellenos, Colorado, chicharones, and rajas. The Colorado was all potatoes with a red sauce. The chicharones comes with beans which I hate. Being my first time there, when ordered I asked for no beans and was not told that the chicharones already has beans mixed in it. The rajas had a velveeta cheese sauce instead of shredded cheese. Had the three street taco plate with a "sample" cup of refried beans. I say sample because they refer to it as a side but it is literally a sample cup you would get if you ask for a sample of something anywhere else. I usually rate Mexican food restaurants by their beans and rice. The beans were ok but not on my number one list of favs for sure. I should have tried that first. I tried the Chicharrone, Colorado, and the Deshebrada tacos and was disappointed that they use potatoes as a filler which definitely takes away from the taste. The only one that stood out somewhat was the Chicaharrone.probably because they pair it with beans instead of potatoes, however because it didn't have potatoes it was not busting out of the seams as I ate it. I did have a Dos Equis made into a michelada which was tasty. Another disappointment was their burrito. My friend ordered the Birria burrito which we assumed would be at least a decent size. It looked like a burrito on a slimfast diet. No joke! The taste was ok but didn't stand out. My two friends and I choose this restaurant after a long week of work with elementary age children. We were greeted with a warm welcome, the food with delicious! I got the #3 green chili beef, burrito with potatoes and added cheese with chips and salsa. Their customer service is 10 stars very warm, welcoming, and friendly. We were invited to do karaoke, ended up stay for three hours singing the night away. The DJ even sang songs with us, it was a great time with staff and friends. Had an late evening craving and decided to stop in to give it a try after hearing some recommendations from friends. Just ask my friends recommended, Testal all is a really good Mexican restaurant. They make all their stuff from scratch on the spot, and their tortillas are fresh. They have different Mexican style drinks. The drinks are pretty good but a little bit on the sweet side for my personal taste. I had two burritos. Chile relleno and another vegan burrito.
