Galleria/Uptown

Oh, The Galleria! My ex-husband is from Houston and I've…read morebeen to The Galleria many, many times. In fact, I started going long before I knew my husband. My dad also lived in Houston and we'd often do shopping or eating at the mall. My daughter (who is now 30) loved (& still does) skating at the ice rink during the holidays. It's a magically fun experience. The Galleria is always incredibly decorated for the holidays. I still get to Houston 1-2 times a year and always enjoy visiting The Galleria. The Galleria itself has not only the ice rink but office space, two hotels, lots of places to eat, and shopping. The retail offerings range from shops like H&M, Macy's, and Nordstrom to high-end luxury shops like Gucci & Chanel. We were there just a few months ago and it was just as fun and exciting as my first visit! Gang, there are so many stores here. Like crazy amounts (a few hundred). It's very large and easy to navigate and of course gets extremely busy during peak times. A must-visit for locals and tourists alike.

Shopping can be hit or miss, and on this particular day, it was definitely a miss. My friends and I…read moreare dedicated bargain shoppers, and despite our best efforts, the Houston Galleria wasn't giving up any deals. With only about an hour before leaving Houston, our shopping mission was more of a speed run than a leisurely browse. Even without scoring any purchases, the Houston Galleria remains an impressive destination. The moment you step inside, you experience bright lights, multiple levels of stores, and a steady stream of shoppers that create an energetic, bustling atmosphere. Beyond shopping, the mall offers entertainment options such as its iconic indoor ice-skating rink, making it easy to spend an entire day there. One of the Galleria's biggest strengths is its variety. Luxury retailers like Chanel and Louis Vuitton share space with more accessible brands such as Banana Republic and American Eagle, offering something for nearly every budget and style. Whether you're on a focused shopping mission or simply window-shopping, there's plenty to explore...even if, in our case, we left empty-handed. The dining options are equally diverse, ranging from food-court favorites to sit-down restaurants like The Cheesecake Factory and Shake Shack to Chic-fil-a. While we didn't find the bargains we were hoping for, our fast-and-furious shopping adventure was filled with laughter and great conversation, and the kind of fun that comes from spending time with good friends. Sometimes spending quality time with friends is the best find of all.

Another Great Stay!…read more This was our second stay at Hyatt Place Houston, and once again, we had a wonderful experience! The location is perfect for concerts, about a 30-minute walk from the venue. We especially appreciated the complimentary shuttle to the concert, which was very well organized. Although there wasn't a return shuttle, the walk back wasn't bad at all. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and accommodating from the moment we arrived. Everyone went above and beyond! They even allowed us an extra hour past the already generous noon checkout. Our room, hallways, and lobby were all very clean. Overall, another excellent stay! This has definitely become our go-to hotel whenever we're in Houston for a concert. Highly recommend!

There is short-term parking in the garage for guests checking in. $18 per day to park, not bad. Quick note, learn from my experience, when you get into the parking garage elevator go to floor one. That'll take you to the hotel elevators. We learned the hard way. Check in was easy, and I was offered bottled water for being a Hyatt rewards member. It was nice that the hotel offered a shuttle to the concert venue but it quit running at 7:00 p.m. so we missed it. We did Uber to the concert and ended up having to walk back to the hotel which is about 1 mile. When we got up to the room, I checked the bed like I always do. When I pulled back the sheets I saw someone else's hair some black ashes and black sequins. I called the front desk and asked them to send up new sheets. They arrived while we were at the concert, but... Housekeeping did not change the sheets they just left the sheets there for us to change them ourselves. The hotel does offer a good breakfast spread. On this morning we had eggs, sausage, potatoes, waffles, oatmeal, fresh fruit and bagels and so much more. The coffee was good as well. Overall, the guest services were friendly, the breakfast was good, and I would have given the hotel four stars but I'm going to have to only give three stars due to the cleanliness of the room and our sheet situation. Have never had this happen at a Hyatt place.

I love how much south Indian food is on the menu, and most tastes homemade. Service was friendly, knowledge about the menu, and responsive. We'll keep coming back! I would say the menu was a little hard to read as far as overall readability and organization. For example, for the size of the Kashmiri kebabs, I was surprised to see they were a pretty large portion - since they were under Street Favorites, I would think they would've been smaller. Meena Bazaar Samosa (potato) 7.5/10 - ($6) Spicy, creamy, flavorful potato filling. This came with a tamarind chutney (not particularly my favorite), but it cuts through the richness of the samosa. Black Sesame Chicken Samosa 9/10 - ($7) Yum!! Loved this one. The yogurt and fig that accompanied this was perfect. I think the yogurt sauce should be served on the Meena Bazaar samosa as well. These samosas were a good sharing size once you cut it in half. Shrimp Balchao 6.5/10 - ($28) Heavy on the big chunks of ginger in the sauce. The overall composition reminds me of shakshuka, as this balchao had a similar flavor profile (but with more ginger)- tomato based thick sauce, red pepper, and big pieces of shrimp. The quality of shrimp was fantastic, and it's served with a dosa. Kasmiri Kebabs (Chicken) 7/10 - ($24) These were good. Chicken was juicy. It was a little spicy, but the yogurt sauce and mini orange salad helped balance it out. I loved the orange salad - it really needed an acidic component. I just wish the kebabs were served with rice. This spot is a chance to experience Indian food from a difference lens, and I think it's worth trying! I wasn't personally blown away, but maybe the brunch menu is better!
