Terry's Tree service trimmed our four birch trees today, with the goal being to remove all dead limbs. This included two rather large trunks. The crew arrived on time, and went to work immediately. They were very thorough and professional. I was impressed with their technique on the large limbs. They carefully controlled the fall of the limbs so that there was no harm to the fence or house. They cleaned up all the debris, including what dropped into the neighbor's yard. The price was well worth it! This job was well beyond the skill of amateurs! I had Terry's Tree Service remove two olive trees and trim another other olive tree in my backyard. The crew was on time, did an excellent job removing the trees quickly and cleaned up all the tree material when completed. Another crew can several hours later to grind the tree stumps. As I had marked areas where irrigation lines and landscape lighting were located, they were extremely careful not to damage these. I would highly recommend Terry's Tree Service. Steve came out, on time, we reviewed what I wanted to get done, and he gave me an estimate on the spot. He knows his trees! A week later I had a crew of eight, also on time, work on my three trees simultaneously. Led by Juan, this team was very efficient and quick; and they did a great job with the trees (trimming, thinning out, removing dead branches); and they did a huge amount of work in a little over an hour. They don't get any better than this! I'd hired Terry's to come out and complete the removal of a 50-foot high cedar tree, of which I had already been able to strip up to the 40-foot mark by myself. When they arrived, they encountered a huge pile of heavy branches and a woodpile, all covering about a third of my lawn. None of this phased them, and they immediately got to work. I soon found that each crew member was polite, friendly, and PROFESSIONAL! They quickly took down the remainder of my 50-foot cedar tree without any problem. Continually, and while the tree was being brought down in large pieces, the others were also busy removing all of my previous cuttings, and then cleaning-up my yard, so that there was no longer any debris, either on the lawn or on the patio. By the time they were done, there was nothing left of my tree, other than a nice pile of usable mulch. After I had thought they were already done and getting ready to leave, another crew member then came along with a blower, to put the final touches on making sure that no debris was present on the sidewalk area down my side yard, finally finishing-up with a cleaning of the driveway. This was the second time I had contracted with Terry's to remove a large tree from my yard, and I couldn't have been more pleased! I have 2 very tall Liquid Amber trees (60+ ft. tall) in my backyard which hadn't been pruned in over 8 years. I received a total of 5 estimates (1 gardner, 4 arborists) ranging from $1,900-$2,400. Not only did Terry beat all of their prices, but his guys (2 cutters, 2 cleanup) did a great job in pruning and shaping these monstrous trees and the cleanup was excellent! They completed the job in just a little over an hour, which freed me up for the rest of my day. Seriously disappointed with this company. We had them come out over a month ago to do an eval and quote, and they gave us a 7am appointment on Jan 2. My spouse had to take the day off to be here for them. At 8:30am, he called because they had not shown. He was told they'd be there between 3 and 5 PM, which never happened. No phone call, no reschedule, etc. First storm hit and we now have large branches that fell. Luckily, they didn't hurt anyone or any cars/property. Now we have to start the process again with another company when everyone is inundated with emergencies. A simple call to let us know they were overbooked with an offer to reschedule would have been enough to keep us happy. We are new homeowners who immediately called for tree service when we moved in because of this unsafe tree, and now look like neglectful homeowners, and are at risk of a lawsuit if someone gets hurt. read more

Jerry came by and did an estimate. Very detailed oriented, and he was very observant. He saw an aphids infestation in my front yard and gave me a solution to resolve that issue, free. The estimate was done on the spot and his signature. Terry's was not the cheapest estimate. I chose another estimate, but that one never returned my calls after a week. So, I chose Terry's. I setup an appointment within three says of the call. They came with a crew of 6-8 people. They cleared my vegetation, cleared and trimmed my front yard, removed all the bushes in the back yard, removed a tree, and trimmed my overhanging tree branches. They did it in about 4 hours. A chipper truck with two more people came by and picked up all the trimmings. They also had to get into my neighbor's yard to trim some of the my bushes, which they cleaned up at the end. My neighbors were very happy and surprised that they cleaned up the work. read more

I just had Terry's tree service come out and remove 3 trees, trim and shape some fruitless pear trees, and remove some other trees at my house. Steve and his crew were awesome--they were very professional, removed all of the debris, and shaped the trees beautifully. Some of the trees were over 40 feet tall, and they managed to remove them without touching my house. The yard looks so much better now, I wish I had called them a few years ago! I received a "same day" response for an estimate on the work to be done. They were also able to schedule the work within days of the estimate...This is a lot better than most of the other tree services in the area. I had several trees to prune for health and a lot of side-cutting of neighbor's trees growing over into my yard. This included five redwood trees that needed to be side cut to a height of over 40 feet. It was a $1000 job and I felt that the estimate was reasonable.. They arrived with a crew of seven workers who completed the job in about three hours. They even added a little extra work for one of my neighbors. The pruning and side-cutting jobs were excellent and I am very happy with the result. Clean-up was OK....I had to spend about a half-hour the next day, picking up limbs and debris that they left behind. Several days later, I discovered that several of my drip irrigation risers had been broken off. So I had to spend about two additional hours repairing the system. I decided to call the office to let them know that I was unhappy with the damage that was done. I did not want any credit....I just hoped that my call might cause the crew to be a bit more careful in the future. I was extremely disappointed by the response I got from the office staff...they basically said that tree work, cutting and dropping limbs and hauling them off sometimes causes damages and that is just the nature of the work.... So.....bottom line is that I would call Terry's Tree Service again....but next time I will be more involved with the supervision of the job....and my advice to you is to do the same to avoid or at least minimize the "collateral damage" that may occur... read more

Wow..3 years ago I paid Terry's $1800 to trim all my trees. Last week the bid went up to $3650... Trees aren't that much taller for the price to more than double. When I reminded Terry of the previous price I paid, he said it was a mistake and he would look into it...no call back. I'm fine paying for inflation, but this is ridiculous. read more

I have two very large pecan trees in my property, much taller than a telephone pole, they had never been properly trimmed until yesterday when Terry's Tree Service crew came and did an awesome job. Do Not use Terry's at any cost. I hired them to remove an Arizona Cypress from my back yard and to TRIM my Chinese elm in the front of the house. They completely butchered the elm - they took it down to the main branches removing any shade that the tree had provided. When they removed the cypress they just let huge heavy branches and trunk fall from 50+ feet up, destroying everything on the ground PLUS taking out main branches of the mulberry tree near the cypress. I now have a mulberry tree that is empty (no branches) in one quarter of its area and an elm that is barely hanging on. I was so upset they butchered the cypress that Juan offered to trim my mulberry trees at no charge. That's when I noticed the damage that was done to the mulberry tree. The workers gave me lame excuses saying that the Chinese elm grows back quickly and in 3 months would be back to where it was and seemed amused that I was so upset (they also damaged my rose bed). But guess what - the elm is no where near what it should be. They just did a quick chop job. You need to be up their butts every second to make sure that things are being done correctly. Unfortunately I had two jobs going on at the same time so I couldn't watch front and back at the same time. AVOID this company if you value your trees. PS - the arborist is nowhere to be found during a job. Just a gang of chop crazed workers, some of which could not speak English. Zero stars is my rating for this outfit ! read more

Terry's Tree Service gets a five star rating from us. Not only were they low bid on our 80 foot Redwood tree but we were able to use a 10% off coupon that was on their website. The service was excellent. They fell the tree and it was completely cleaned up in 1 hour. Their staff is wonderful. There were 8 men here and another came later in the day to grind the root. He told us at that time if we wanted to save another $50.00 pay with cash, which we did. Great service. The only reason it took longer than 30 days after bid was because the City of Livermore takes that long to issue a permit. After the permit was received the job was booked within a week. Last night our beautiful Japanese oak succumbed to El Nino, uprooted, and fell into the street. We called Terry's Tree Service and had a couple of conversations with their phone representative prior to their arrival (who was AWESOME, I give her 5 stars!). When Roberto and his crew arrived, he quoted us $8000. After we processed $8000 and realized he wasn't kidding, we declined their services. Onsite police, fire, and neighbors could not believe $8000 either. The rep from Terry's called me back once Roberto left. She agreed that this was on the high side, advised that this was not one of their regular guys they just sent him because he was closest to us and she would have someone else come back to re-estimate. I thanked her and declined further assistance. We didn't want to deal with this company after experiencing Roberto's gauging and taking advantage of the situation. Dublin police had MCE (city's Public Works contractor) come out to chop up the tree and get it all piled up in our yard. I reached out to Cal Tree Care today, they quoted us $1800 and will have everything cleaned up this afternoon. Fortunately this is covered by our home insurance, but I'm sure I would have had an issue trying to recover the $8000 Terry's quoted us from my insurance. So thankful for emergency responders and neighbors who were there to guide and support us through our tree dilemma last night. I wish I could say the same for Roberto from Terry's Tree Service. read more

This company just did a job at a neighbors house. They had my driveway blocked all afternoon and when I asked them to move so I could leave, it appeared to be a huge imposition. I had to do a 15 point turn to get out of my driveway. During their clean up, they went through the neighbors yard with a leaf blower, blowing twigs, leaves and debri into my yard, porch, driveway, bark landscaping and the street in front of my house. I asked them if they could clean it up and the guy working the blower stared me down. He went through my yard and just blew everything in a different area of my yard and damaged a plant. My side yard also has tree trimmings that need to be cleaned up. It doesn't help matters that I just spent my day off earlier this week raking leaves and trimming hedges. I called the number that was on their truck. The guy who answered said it was an emergency job. The tree they worked on was an old oak tree that had a large limb break off......3 days ago. That's some emergency response. He offered to have someone come back and clean up. Too late. These guys are inconsiderate. Not sure if the neighbor has noticed the damage they did to his gutters, or how he feels about them knocking his phone service out. read more

I am not sure how Terry's Tree Service could be such great reviews. We have scheduled three appts for them to come out, all of which they failed to show or even CALL!! When we followed up and they had multiple excuses. First reason, a tree fell on an old lady. Second reason, stuck in traffic. Third reason, truck broke down. If they are this accident prone, unable to plan for commute times (i.e. leave earlier) or keep their equipment in goos order, you have to question their professional abilities. read more

We were not impressed with the service and will not be using them again. I could not communicate with any of the works. I tried to tell them we wanted wood chips from the tree branches. They said they would come back to deliver them. They never did. They didn't leave any kind of a receipt. Just came to the door for the check and left. They finished the job in under and hour and we couldn't tell they had done much tree pruning. We phoned and they said they would come back the next day to cut more. They never did. I paid Terry's Tree Service $400 to remove a dead shrub and some branches on a redwood tree. They left behind about 2 feet of debris all around the area they had worked in, including some branches they had sawed off. I contacted them and they claimed the debris was already there before they started their work (including the newly sawn branches, I guess) and they would come back and clean up for another $400. Some customer focus! Well, needless to say, I will not be using their business again nor recommending it to my neighbors. read more

The man who came out to give me the quote promised an "immaculate" cleanup. The end result was anything but. One tree was nearly decimated while two others were left untouched. A tree that I wanted trimmed was completely cut down. They left cut and broken branches high up in the tree and all over the ground. They trampled flowers, broke off a sprinkler head, and left a piece of wind art broken on the ground. I called and left a message but no one ever came back out. The guy bragged about doing the trees and bushes at the Wente winery- my brother works for Wente and he's coming over to see the mess himself. If you are foolish enough to hire this guy, watch him and his crew every second, they obviously can't be trusted. read more

I hired Terry's Tree Service to remove a number of trees and bushes and to grind some stumps. I also wanted them to trim a few trees. They gave me a competitive bid and were easy to get a hold of. Other companies had ignored us or were too expensive. They did an okay job, but there was no artistry to the tree trimmings. I think my trees look a bit sadder than before the trimmings. The crew was able to remove what I wanted, but it took them a couple of days. They were not careful with the existing landscaping and broke irrigation pipes, planter pots, and children's play equipment. To their credit, they did compensate me for those. I had picked them because I see their trucks everywhere, but maybe they are better with commercial rather than residential projects. I may use them again, but would not be my first choice. read more

I am very disappointed with their tree planting service. They told me that I didn't need to be at home when they planted the tree, so I went to work. BIG MISTAKE! They gave me a very unhealthy tree. Now with all the leaves brown, they just kept saying "we never had a tree dying on us, we will send some one to check and call you back". Never call me back. I called them more than 10 times, still the same answer. I guess that is how their "one-year warranty on their trees" works: they never admit their tree is dead until after one year passes. I am not sure how they got good reviews from other customers. Maybe I am an Asian, I don't deserve a good service from Terry's Tree Service. read more

I give Terry's my highest recommendation. I had an urgent need to remove a large Modesto Ash tree that was under distress. Terry met me immediately and provided a fair estimate for the removal as well as the pruning of two other trees. The team (led by Juan) showed up promptly and worked quickly on all three trees at once. Removal, pruning, stump grinding, disposal. It's always sad to lose a tree with such character, but these guys did an outstanding job in every respect. No need to call anyone else! read more
