Absolutely recommend this tree service! We had them here at our home back in February and the crew did an amazing/beautiful job trimming our trees!! I called them again just yesterday as we had a small, broken branch in one of our trees that we couldn't reach to remove. They had a crew working in our area today so they came by our home and removed our broken branch for us. They are the best!! Professional, courteous, hard working and they do an excellent job!!! Highly recommend them for any tree service that may be needed!!! read more

Preferred Expert Tree Service - Beautiful work done by Preferred Expert Tree Service - Tree Services Near Me

We hired Preferred Expert Tree Service to prune our large American elm at the beginning of the year. The crew was friendly and polite, and their quote was slightly lower than other estimates. However, the job felt rushed, taking only about two hours for a tree of this size. Unfortunately, those shortcuts caught up with us this summer. The tree dropped large branches into our backyard on two separate occasions, destroying our patio furniture. We had a certified arborist inspect the tree, and they confirmed that improper pruning likely placed severe stress on the tree, leading to the breakage. I expected a company with "expert" in their name to prioritize long-term tree health and safety, rather than doing a quick surface job. I would proceed with caution if you need complex or large-scale pruning. read more

Absolutely outstanding service! Their owner was extremely knowledgeable and gave us a very reasonable quote (lower than competitors). Scheduling was quick and convenient. They sent out a large team so all 4 of our trees could be trimmed at the same time! Their crew was so friendly, highly skilled, professional & total a joy to work with. They made sure we were 100% happy before they left. Best local tree service we've used by far!! Can't recommend them highly enough! read more

What a fantastic company. I have three large elm trees that they came to trim. 6 workers. Gave me a time of arrival and were right on time. State of the art equipment. Trained and professional team. One hour in and out. Trees look so sculpted. Cleaned the yard up beautifully. Not a branch left. Price vs two other quotes was amazing and they are licensed and bonded. I will use them again and share with my neighbors. read more

When I called Preferred Tree Service for an estimate, they were out here in just a few days. I'm a retired landscape designer so I'm pretty good at pricing. I felt they were very fair for the amount of work that needed to be done to remove a tree that I sadly had to take down. I had six guys here and it was like watching a master class in tree removal. Every branch was slinged with rope so nothing damaged the property and lowered carefully. It really was amazing to watch and everyone on my site did a professional job. I would recommend them highly because I've seen a lot of different jobs over the years as a designer and they are right at the top. Thanks so much to my crew, Preferred Tree Service read more

I went with Preferred Tree Service based on recommendations from NextDoor. It was a good recommendation. Communication was quick and easy. They dropped by to assess the job, provided a very reasonable quote (unusual for the Bay Area) and were in and out when they said they would be. All done while I wasn't home so I didn't have to miss a minute of work. Their work was clean, no damage to surrounding area including neighboring plants. I'm a very happy customer. read more

Fantastic tree trimming service. I had several queen palm trees that need to be trimmed every year and Steve was super friendly when he came out to give a quote. His crew was on time, very friendly and did a great job. They even took extra care to not have obvious spike marks which I really appreciated. Will be calling them for all tree service from now on. read more

We have been using Preferred Tree Services for close to 10 years and still happy with the results! We found them by riding our bikes down the Iron Horse Trail and saw the crew up in a tree and asked for a quote. The rest is history. They even responded to our neighbors tree when it fell down during a wind storm a few years ago. We have two Dutch elm trees in our backyard that need a trim every 2-3 years. With the rains this year, the leaves/branches were dense and hanging over our string lights. We received a fair estimate and scheduling was two weeks out. I perform safety observations at my day job and what I liked was there was a pre-scope with the lead and foreman prior to starting work, the crew had a tail gate meeting and everyone knew what to do to get the job done safely. From proper harnessing to barricading and wearing the right PPE for the job and using their tools safely, as well as watching for traffic since their trucks/trailer were in our court. It may seem weird to talk about safety but they do take care in their work and their employees. It's definitely worth checking out for an estimate. read more

We initially began looking into various tree trimming businesses in September, 2025 with various recommendations from friends and business contacts. After reviewing approximately ten businesses, I narrowed my inquires down to four tree trimming businesses and contacted each for an on-site consultation and estimate. Of the ten businesses originally considered, and the four businesses I contacted in person, my final choice for removing our 80' palm tree was Preferred Expert Tree Service in Livermore! On the scheduled day, the seven-man crew arrived prior to their scheduled window and had all the equipment needed (four large trucks including a "chipper" et al) to remove and dispose of the palm tree! The removal was completed and all residue was removed cleanly and efficiently (including the back-yard pool which had "caught" some of the sawdust and falling debris)! The crew was very professional courteous, informative, and worked together to complete the palm tree removal! I would highly recommend this company! read more

Amazing company, fast, responsive, reasonable pricing, great work crew. Have already recommended to several people!

I highly recommend Preferred Expert Tree Service based on an outstanding experience from start to finish. We had an issue with an overgrown pepper tree whose roots had pushed up the sidewalk. Steve, the owner, came out personally, walked me through the entire process--including removing the tree, grinding the stump, and planting a replacement--and provided a fair, transparent quote. After speaking with more than half a dozen other tree service companies, Steve clearly stood out. His combination of expertise, professionalism, and genuine care for both the project and the customer made a strong impression. Once I signed the contract, Steve's team filed the necessary Tree Action Permit within a couple of days. Throughout the process, both Steve and Desiree kept me updated, making everything easy and stress-free. After the permit and HOA approvals came through, they promptly scheduled the work. One extra detail that really reflects their customer service: I didn't have a truck to transport the replacement tree I'd purchased from a nearby nursery, and Steve kindly offered to pick it up for me. The crew showed up on time, completed the work exactly as promised, and left the area cleaner than they found it. They removed the tree and surface roots, ground down the stump, and planted the new tree--all within a few hours. We also had sprinkler lines running along the sidewalk near the tree, and we fully expected to have to repair them afterward. To our surprise, Steve and his team were so careful that everything was left intact, saving us additional time and expense. It's rare to find a company that combines skill, efficiency, and integrity so well. I'm a very satisfied (and relieved) customer--and they've earned every bit of this 5-star review. read more

Preferred Tree Service came and thinned out 3 of our 5 large redwood trees last week. They brought 3 climbers and each had someone below cleaning up as they went. I was really impressed with their efficiency and the care they took to make sure our yards were left in better condition than when they arrived. Same for the neighbors' yards. Their pricing was very competitive and fair with the other two quotes we got beforehand. I'd recommend them to anyone looking to have tree work done. read more

Steve and his team were great to work with. When Steve came to give me the initial quote, I felt he was the one I wanted to work with. I had gotten three other quotes and his price was the best. He was easy to talk to. He understood what I wanted. This was my first time doing this large project because my former husband had always taken care of it in the past. Steve reassured me, it would be just fine. The day of the trimming, cutting and shaping the tress, Steve arrived with his team on time and he instructed the team. on what needed to get done. Steve left and the guys got to work. Sal, was the guy I worked with one on-one, while he also supervised the other guys. At the end of the job, Steve came back to ensure the job was done right. I was very satisfied with the outcome. I recommend this team to my Family and friends. Thank you Steve and Team you all did a wonderful job. See you next year! read more

This company did such an excellent job. I have many trees, and they all have different issues. My most important concern was keeping the trees away from the house. Not only did Preferred Tree Service do a great job taking the trees down and getting them away from our house and garage, they also did a beautiful job shaping them. I expected to have to wait quite a long time- as planning on a couple months out- but Preferred did our trees right away. I'm so very grateful and happy with my trees. Every time I look at them I breathe a little sigh of relief that they aren't hitting our house and overhanging our gutters and the ones over the street aren't going to be hitting the garbage trucks! Thank you so much Preferred Tree Service! read more

Preferred Tree Service just finished a job for us trimming 5 trees. We've used them in the past and their customer service continues to impress. Steve is great and he and Desiree (office) provided timely communication from estimate to job completion. I've recommended their service to friends who were equally as pleased. Very professional and very reasonable pricing. On-site crew chief Saul, was excellent. On time, professional, great communicator, very good cleanup! read more

This team was AMAZING! They arrived on schedule with a full team and the equipment necessary to trim back an old elm in front of our house. I totally agree with Preferred 5 point rating!!! REALLY, you cannot go wrong with hiring this company. Each one of the crew is polite, they are dedicated workers, they did an awesome job of trimming our overgrown & very tall, redwood tree, along with perfectly trimmed willow tree, and also taking out different stumps around our yard. They were willing to do any tasks I asked, and cleaned up extremely well. I dealt mostly with Kyle who was the foreman for my project today. I am so very pleased and happy with their work, and if I need anything else, I will definitely be calling them. I also appreciated that they worked within our budget ~ that is always a plus! read more

This is the third time I have used Preferred Tree Service and they have done an exceptional job each time. I have found their crew to be friendly, professional, and very clean. Steve, the owner has been very responsive to giving quotes, reasonably priced and great with returning calls and following up, he and his crew definitely command a good knowledge of The trees. Kyle was in charge of the job on my particular day and I found him delightful and easy to work with. I have several different trees in my backyard and they were familiar with all of them and the best way to trim them. They were very timely and efficient. Since this is our third time using Preferred Tree Service, I know the trees will come back beautifully in the spring. They've kept them thriving and healthy for several years now. I highly recommend this company. Donna Kavanaugh read more

Having just purchased a new home, I was in search of someone to remove a birch tree and trim back a Palm tree, Japanese Maple and random assorted bushes in my new jungle-of-a backyard. The owner, Steve, came out the same day I called him for a quote and scheduled me for 3 days after. Him and his crew came out (on a wet and rainy day no less) to do the tree trimming and tree removal including grinding down the stump on a high planter box (which another company told me was not do-able). Steve is very knowledgeable about all types of trees, was able to identify everything in my yard and advise me on a Sago palm that was not growing. His price is extremely reasonable compared to the 3 other bids I got for the project. Unlike several others, he is fully licensed/bonded and willingly offered to show me his paperwork during the estimate. I highly recommend Steve at Preferred Tree service because his price is the best and he was able to do the work quickly and efficiently. I will surely be using him again in the near future. read more

I got 3 quotes for tree pruning services. One of the companies I had worked with before, but the other two were new to me. Preferred Tree was one of the new ones. I went with Preferred Tree because I liked the way Steve worked. He was direct and gave me a very good rate compared to the other two. On the day of the service, his team showed up with all the right equipment needed for the job and got it all done within two hours. They were quick, efficient and worked well together. I could see what a family business can do. I don't speak spanish and I was concerned that I would not be able to communicate with the crew. But not to worry. Steve and his team were all fluent in English and did a thorough professional job. There was nothing that I needed to have them do over, they did it all thoroughly as discussed and agreed. It was a very professional job. The best I have seen in over 20 years. I will use them in future in all my tree work and highly recommend them! read more

Preferred Expert Tree Service - I contacted Steve for an estimate and to schedule the removal of several trees, trimming and shaping others and for stump grinding services. Steve was very responsive and provided a very competitive bid. We were able to schedule the service within a week. His crew arrived on time and expertly removed the trees which were hanging over our neighbors yard and fence. I cannot say enough about their professionalism and care which they took. They removed trees, cleaned up the yard and left it on better condition than before. I highly recommend their services and will be using them again. Thank you Steve and your entire crew. Sometime about midnight, a tree in our new front yard decided it was time to give up the ghost. I had noticed it was shifting with the wind. Luckily, it naturally leaned away from the house, and it fell in the front yard at a time when no one was passing by. My neighbor helped me carve up a portion sticking out into the street, but I wanted to make sure the tree was picked up as soon as possible. Just a heads up, if you guys are having this with the wind, too, Preferred Tree Service jumped on it. They came out in an hour, shredded the tree, ground the stump, and cleaned up the site right away. I don't think I've ever had a vendor jump that fast while being professional and cost-effective. read more

Very satisifed with the services provided by Preferred Expert Tree Service. Steve Shockey and his crew were consistently on time and professional from day one of the estimate to the day the crew (led by Saul) completed the work. Steve and his crew at Preferred Tree Service have been the only positive experience from a backyard project to put up a fence and batting cage for my boys. I started looking for contractors back in Sept to have project done by baseball tryouts in December. So far, Preferred Tree Service is the ONLY part of the project that has done what they said they would do. Not only prompt and on schedule, they were efficient and looked after my property. This is huge as many of the areas they protected aren't perfect and some could assume another scrape or chip wouldn't be a big deal. As a family on disability and budget constraints, we have to make the best of what we have to keep it looking as good as we can until a few more years pass and we can do those projects too. The "Preferred Crew" was so cautious and also kept me informed the entire time without me having to stand and watch them. They are true professionals. While they were here, I asked if they could cut down one other tree. "Sure" was the answer and the price was right! Far less than if I had them come back. Nonetheless, they had to come back (and was originally estimated to do so) because a huge pepper tree had grown into the chainlink fence. We are also along a cemented arroyo and not having a fence with a dog in the yard made for tricky scheduling. Again, Steve was awesome at scheduling and making things work with his crew even though my fence contractor didn't meet expectations and couldn't complete the work we had discussed. Steve came back in and did above and beyond expectations for not only grinding the one big tree stump, but grinding the entire fence line with 5-6 privets and extensive ivy roots etc. If I had to ding for anything, it would be scheduling the return visit for stump grinding. I didn't hear back so followed up after a few days and then got immediate response to help.. so that would be a 1/2 star deduction but so made up for it. If you want an honest company to come take care of any tree needs, this is the company! They take pride in their work, ensure safety and look out for your property and belongings. read more

It had been over 15 years since I had the 23 trees on my property pruned and shaped. Because it was a large job, I got several quotes but decided to go with Preferred Tree Service because their price was in the middle of the bids, and I liked the owner who had much information about each tree and suggestions for the health and longevity of them. Four of the trees were removed, and I was thankful that there was no damage to the surrounding areas. I had requested the pruning be "as much as possible to increase my views" and the results were dramatic. It took one day with 7-8 men, and the clean-up afterwards was superb. This company surpassed my expectations, and I will definitely call them next time I need tree care. read more
