What a beautiful complete tree removal done today by Ruben and his crew. We had 2 good sized Oak's and one rather large juniper removed plus a large amount of trimming. 1- They showed up on time, 2- they moved all the planters, tables, covered the barbecue, before felling the first tree, 3- Went to work. They had a crew of five that were top notch. Six an a half hours and what a difference. They cleaned up the huge mess and even cleaned up the branches and leaves that found their way into the pool! I call this old fashioned service. Would I recommend Ruben and his crew? Absolutely, The quality of work and caring they had for our property was amazing. I've used Purcell 5 times so far over 12 years and they are always outstanding. -They arrive when they promise -They do the job very well -They advised me how to trim the tree properly for its health, not just the way I wanted. They would do it either way, but just told me very nicely there was another way to trim it. (I went with their advice) -They cleaned up, including stuff that was not from their work -They charge a fair price -They work safely with proper harnesses and other things. I don't want an accident. -The crew is thoughtful and placed moving pads over my boat to protect it even though is was off to the side and out of the way. read more

I called them first because of their high rating. I talked with Reuben. I told him my wife was off work on Monday. He said "what time". I said "what works best for you". Reuben told me he'd be there between 10-11. He never showed up! I got a voicemail from him on my mobile at work just before 10am wanting to know if I was home. I told Reuben when we made the appointment my wife would be there. I can't use my personal mobile at work so I didn't get it till later. I don't write reviews often but when a company provides excellent work and service, I don't hesitate to recommend them. I called half a dozen tree trimmers in the area to get quotes to trim 3 very tall palms in our yard, plus prune 2 overgrown trees creating a mess in our pool. Ruben's quote was less expensive than other quotes I received and he had the soonest availability. It was a no brainer to hire him. Scheduling was easy, his crew showed up on time in the early morning and got the job done. The whole crew not only cleaned up every inch of my yard to leave it debris-free, but they cleaned the surrounding neighbor's yards too that had fallen debris from my trees. I could not be happier with John Purcell Tree Service! I needed 8 trees trimmed, 1 tree removed, and a row of hedges in my back garden removed. After several estimates decided John and his crew were the ones for the job! John is very personable and had great suggestions for trimming the trees as well as tips for maintaining tree health and promoting future growth. When the work day came around, John and his crew were early to get things set-up and the job started right on time. John walked around my garden with me to confirm the work we had discussed and then the guys got to trimming. Half way through I was asked again if I wanted certain branches removed, which I greatly appreciated, as I was quite particular about one of the trees. As the job came to a finish I again was walked through the garden to make sure I was happy with the work and to make sure there were no branches I felt needed to be trimmed. The crew did great work, were considerate of my neighbors and left my garden even clean than it was when they got there - what great customer service! Ok, ok I'll quit rambling! I called John Purcell tree service because I used them back in 2003 to remove 5 trees and they did a great job. I call Ruben, he arrived at the time he said to provide the initial quote. Took him about 15 minutes to quote the job unlike the other tree companies (all twelve) I called who took 30 to 50 minutes to quote and some had to go back to office to quote. Their prices were astronomical compared to John Purcell's tree service. We selected a date and time and Ruben and his crew showed up early and ready to start. They were amazing. They removed four large redwoods over a 120 feet in height and their stumps in just three and half days, they made it look so easy. His crew worked nonstop other than a short lunch break. Ruben and his team are very hard workers. The most amazing part about this team, I am surrounded by neighbors with pools. I notified my neighbors and suggested they cover their pools. None of them did but Ruben and his team were able to keep 99% of all debris and cuttings in my yard and out of the neighbors. Every day they left the work area was spotless. If you want a tree service that provides amazing service and quality craftsmanship and a very fair price these are your guys. I would recommend them to everyone. John Purcell is no longer the owner and sold his business to Rueben who continues to use the business name. Rueben came out to give me quote and told me he would follow up with me to schedule a day to come out. Several weeks later I had to follow up with him. His team came out and did half the job I was quoted for. I've text him several times asking when he is going to come back out to finish the job and am always told by the end of the week yet they never show. My mistake as I already paid them for the incomplete job. Which if I don't hear back I will be taking them to small claims court. I think it's sad that Rueben and his team are now going to destroy the name and company of a man that proudly built this business for years. read more

Getting a hold of them is near impossible, i left the check under my doormat as i was at work when service was done... i had to ask several times for an invoice (which i still haven't received). 1 star for the price and 1 star for their clean up. First let me say this, The work that Purcell's tree service does is 2nd to none. They are excellent. For over 20 years they have been pruning my Mulberry tree in my front yard, trimming the bushes by my fence, the furs under the front window and the hedges along the sidewalk every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, except for this year. Three times I have called and was told Reuben would give me a call back. Nothing. No call saying they were booked, they wouldn't be able to get there until after Christmas, they no longer do my area...nothing. There has been no communication from Reuben at all. I regret that it looks like I am going to have to call another tree service which I do not really want to do. I would usually give them 5 stars but this year... no. Very disappointed. I have a neighbor that suggested Purcell Tree Service because I had some concrete work that needed to be done. I thought that was a little strange but I trust my neighbor. Well believe me, my encounter with Ruben was carrying high hopes. I was about two weeks behind in my project and Ruben came over and assessed the project and gave me an honest price. I was impressed with Ruben and his obligation to helping the customer. He said that he could do it next week or sooner if possible. We'll Possible happened the next day. I got a phone call and his crew could be on their way in about 1/2 hour. I had an appointment shortly after the crew arrived, my wife would be at home if the crew had any questions for me. Well, my wife called me about 4 hours later and was thrilled with the work. When I got home the crew was gone and seeing the project I had to call and Thank the Purcell Team for all that they did. Pick up, clean up was magnificent. I would recommend this company for all your needs. I researched their company and they do a LOT more then just trees. A company is only as good as the people who actually do the work, and this was the hard lesson I learned yesterday. After several attempts to schedule a date with Ruben that he would keep, his crew finally showed up yesterday but without Ruben. Each date I had scheduled, I would call to make sure he would show up only to hear they were running behind and another date was scheduled. I hired him to trim and shape three trees and grind up an old tree stump. His price was fair and reviews were positive. But for me, this was not the case. Instead of the excellent service I expected, I was left with a disaster. The only tree they touched before I stopped the job had a huge chunk taken out of one side and the other side was lopsided. I had also requested they not touch the top of the tree, but they didn't listen and topped it anyway. It looked more like a shub with half of it missing than a tree. I called Ruben, and he apologized and didn't charge me which is only right since I now have to hire someone to try and correct the disaster they left me with. They did grind up the old tree stump and that went well. I wonder if Ruben has taken on more jobs than he can handle, and he has hired less qualified people to do the work. The job I got certainly does not match the reviews written on Yelp. read more

I met John 2015, called him for an estimate, he arrived as scheduled. He and his crew arrived on the schduled day and did a great job. Liked the job he did so I called him the following year (2016). Same experience as the previous year. When I went to pay John after the completion of the job he told me that he'll be phasing out and into retirement. But his long time employee Rueben was going to transtion and take over the company. I skipped 2016 and Had my wife call Rueben either mon. Sept 18th 2017 or Tue the 19th for an estimate for some pruning. He stated that they were really busy so he could'nt make it out till the end of the following week for the estimate. Wife told Rueben that woud be great gave him our phone number and told him look foward to hearing from you. The following Weds 27th my wife called Rueben to verify if he was coming Thur or Fri. there was no answer so she left our number and ask him to return her phone call.
