Great little place in a small little strip mall. As soon as I walked in it smelled wonderful The staff were so friendly too. It's almost right next door to the hotel I'm staying at so I'm definitely going back. I just got the California Roll and it was spot on.

Spivey chicken lunch special

I've had a couple good lunches here so figured it was time to hook these guys up with a review...both times I had the Spicy Chicken Teriyaki and it's been a great...here's the skinny: *Chicken- Boneless, skinless, and gristle-free- this white/dark meat chicken is especially tasty *Spicy sauce: awesome, tangy, sweet and hot! *Rice: sticky/sweet variety...like you'd get at a Japanese restaurant...good...sub the brown rice for a healthier option. *Salad: iceberg mix with a vinegar/sugar dressing...could be better, but fresh and crunchy. All in all a good value option for lunch at only $7 (incl tax)....go here instead of the Mickey D's across the street!

Unagi bento

I will say, this is one of the more disappointing teriyaki places that I have visited so far in the North end of Seattle. Prices here are a tad bit higher than most places and the variety/options of food offered are pretty standard. With angry growling tummies for food, my mom and I stopped by here to try this place out. Ordered a unagi (eel) bento and a sauteed tofu dish with veggies. Verdict of both food: Too much salt. After making a few trips to get additional cups of water, I did find it a bit difficult to finish my meal without feeling parched. At a price of $14 for a simple bento (it's normally around $13, but for a dollar extra, you can upgrade from chicken to pork teriyaki), I didn't enjoy it too much. The pork teriyaki looked and tasted undercooked and lacked any real flavor to it other than the saltiness. As for the unagi rolls, the rice was cold and the fish wasn't too fresh. Salad itself was plain with barely any dressing (no yummy typical white/mayo sauce) and overall, a very disappointing dish. As for the tofu dish, the tofu itself was quite smushy and despite us requesting for the dish to be spicy, it turned out to be more salt than anything else. Upside to this restaurant: It's clean, free hot tea / water, and there are a variety of sauces / other things you can add to your dish. Wait time was a bit long and the parking lot out front is pretty limited. Perhaps my mom and I ordered the wrong things here but in comparison to the many other competing teriyaki joints in the neighborhood, I won't make another stop here any time soon.

Yum. Spicy chicken and broccoli is great and so is the lunch teriyaki special. The "small" is plenty big.

We ordered the Deluxe Sashimi Set, Shrimp Sashimi, and Rainbow Roll, and everything was fresh, beautifully presented, and delicious. The sashimi was especially impressive--excellent quality, generous portions, and very fresh. The Rainbow Roll was also delicious, with a great variety of fresh fish. It was one of the best Japanese meals we had during our Seattle trip. The wonderful food and warm, friendly service made our anniversary and birthday celebration even more memorable. We would definitely recommend Akebono Japanese Cuisine to anyone who loves fresh sashimi and sushi, and we look forward to coming back the next time we visit Seattle!

They're part of a small plaza, so there's a small parking lot as well. My friend and I were sat at the sushi bar and there was no interaction with the chefs behind the bar, but service throughout the meal was pretty good. For food, we got the spicy edamame and bento box A. Spicy edamame had good flavor, was a little over steamed maybe? And had a buttery flavor which I was not expecting. Bento boxes come with a miso soup and salad which were fine. The box itself had 6 pieces of sashimi, a California roll, assorted tempura, and chicken karaage. The sashimi was not bad overall. Good quality fish, pieces were uneven and a little funnily cut, but all good. The roll was fine as well, good proportions of filling and rice. The roll itself was a bit messy though and overloaded with masago. Tempura was fine, I like the variety. Chicken karaage was hot and pretty tender, but the pieces were huge, making it a bit harder to eat. I would've preferred some dipping sauce as well. Overall, a pretty middle place. I think the bento boxes are a great value, but I wasn't quite wowed or satisfied enough to want to visit again. I imagine if I lived super close, and was craving sushi, this would be a good option though.

Updated review from 2 Months ago…read more.. I've been back roughly 6 times from my previous review of Kona Kitchen. Then it was too many staff, not many customers and it was difficult to get service, that has been improved upon. They are nice and attentive when they see you. Service was normal, the wait staff came around and offered more beverage. This time it was still slow period, so what gives it only 3 stars instead of more? It's the fact that the main door the employee use to go into the kitchen to give their orders to the cooks had cob webs on the top of the door.i mean everyone of them walk through that door hundreds of times throughout the week because I could tell it's been there for some time. Where's the food inspector, should be a concern because if it's there in full view of customers and employees, what else is happening as far as cleanliness at Kona Kitchen. I will be there within two or three days and wonder if the cobweb will still be a fixture there... it's something that is annoying because nobody's done anything about it. Amazing.

To start, while the server took our order, he sat on the table next to ours. Not AT the table...ON the table. Like he put his ass on the table while entering our order into his handheld system. The food came out quickly and was tasty, but honestly didn't look very appetizing. I got the All-Star Ramen and everything was the same color. See the picture. Visually underwhelming for an "All-Star" dish. Just sort of...beige. As soon as our food was served, the server went on his break, grabbed a bowl of Ramen, and sat just outside the window where we could watch him eat his dinner. From that point on the only service we got was by flagging down somebody else in the restaurant. My five dollar glass of iced tea was refilled once and only because I motioned somebody over to get me some more. There were no condiments at our table, so I had to go get some from a nearby table because nobody brought any to us. The walls were all patched and dirty, and the bathroom floor was covered in toilet paper. Honestly, this component of it was kind of gross and made the place feel kind of seedy. I've been here before, though it's been years....it was better before. We paid $60 for two people. I tipped but not well because, frankly, the service was not that great. I don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon. Sad that they've fallen off their game.

For that, I am giving you three stars, but for everything else, I give one to two stars. The white rice is usually dry and just does not taste that good. Sesame noodles and are always way too salty. Spam musubi is way too salty (does it really need a salty sauce on top of already salty Spam?). Bok choy greens are not cooked right (they taste chewy) and way too salty. The mac salad is surprisingly not too salty but just bland. Sesame chicken is fried in a super thick batter and is goopy and hard rather than crispy and savory. Same goes for the fried cauliflower. The wagyu sushi was torched perfectly table-side. Superior quality. Was asked if was okay with med rare . Which yes! That's how it should be but I appreciate them asking. Not the typical red , ordinary sauce. Squeeze of the lemon straight into it and it was truly chefs kiss. Best shrimp cocktail I've ever had. The size of the shrimp were good as well. No skimping there. My main dish was the Ichibo. Perfect medium to medium rare in my books. But that wasabi sauce I added. Fresh ingredients in the initial preparation for sure. Paired well with the mashed potatoes that were whipped thoroughly. True star was the drink. I rarely have cocktails when I'm out now but this one looked too cool to pass up. It's their signature cocktail made with Ginza no Suzume and with sprite instead of club soda. Balanced mix of sweet and tart. This is a must check out spot! Honestly, every staff member here was very nice and friendly. I only remember Natalie because she was always our host when we came here and today I finally took a glance at her name tag. So far, I've had mango sago, chive cakes, pad kee mao beef, pad ka prao beef, and crab crawl noodles, and all were good! The chive cakes tasted just like the ones my Indonesian grandma made. Can't believe I can actually taste my childhood flavors once again. The crab noodles were black peppery and on the kinda sweet side, and the crab crawl was good and fresh, I love real crab meat. The pad ka prao beef was so fragrant when it was brought to the table. There was a lot of beef, and it was tender and flavorful. The sweet basily sauce also reminds me of the basily stir-fried clams my grandma used to make. If I wasn't 100% sure, I'd suspect that my 78 years old grandma might have secretly come to Seattle and worked as a chef here. If you like Thai tea or milk tea, try the cha Thai slushy (they can also make it alcoholic if you like). So good! It's sweet enough to hit the spot after biking, but also not too sweet that makes you feel guilty. The mango sago was huge, it tasted as it's look, mango and milk ice cream and perfectly cooked sago, but you might get a few really sour mango cuts lol. The portion was definitely big enough to share with at least one other person. They also have a decent vegan/vegetarian section too. My partner loves the garlicky noodles. Btw, if the owner or restaurant manager could see this, could you please fix the door or apply some lube or something? I noticed that everyone struggled a few seconds when trying to open the door.
