Tequila Sunrise used to be one of my favorite restaurants, which makes this experience especially…read moredisappointing. We decided to stay in and order DoorDash tonight, and unfortunately my chicken quesadilla completely missed the mark. One bite in, and I immediately knew something was off. The chicken had an unpleasant taste that honestly made me question whether it was fresh. I couldn't even finish the first bite. I tried a different piece of my quesadilla and the same rubbery, disgusting taste - out right awful. Unfortunately, there are no photos because the meal was over for me the moment I tasted it. To be fair, the loaded fries were still delicious (and remain my favorite item on the menu), and my husband's quesadilla was perfectly fine. What started out looking like a great meal quickly went downhill when I tried mine. If you've read my reviews before, you know I don't often leave negative feedback, which is why this experience stands out. I've had great experiences at another Tequila Sunrise location in the area, but this time really missed the mark and left me extremely disappointed. I hope this was an isolated issue, but after this experience, it'll be a long time before I consider ordering from this location again.

When my daughter's burrito came out I asked about the rice and beans and he said "the rice and beans are in the burrito"... ummm yeah that's what a burrito is. So if I got the cheese quesadilla would I get the rice and beans on the side or would they be in the quesadilla? I'm so confused. Also, when we sat down everyone else was served chips and salsa. We waited and never got any so I asked about it. He said, "I didn't bring any out since you ordered asada fries". What?! I didn't know there were certain disqualifying entrees for the complimentary chips and salsa. The food itself wasn't bad just the service was wonky.

The anticipation of this place opening was overwhelming. We ate here a few days after it opened…read moreand... read my first review for that. BUT Now it has been a while. and my husband and I have eaten here a total of three times. Some thoughts and the reason why it went from 5 stars to 2. The food is inconsistent. The tamales on the first day we ate here were HUGE. Like two regular tamales put together. The taste was great and we really enjoyed eating here. My husband was raving about the pico. It was delicious too We noticed that it took time to get seated as there was nobody to greet us when we first came in. Hopefully, this improves or has improved. The other two times we ate from here we placed an order on the phone and went to pick it up. The second time we ordered I wanted a tamale so I ordered one tamale thinking it would be the same size as the first time. Nope. It was a small tamale this time and not the one I ordered. I wanted the chili cheese one but got one with chicken instead. Not happy about that or the size. I was still hungry and disappointed. My husband ordered a dish that had pico because he was so happy with it the first time. This time however the onion was cut WAY too large and all the ingredients were different sizes. It was not a pleasant experience and he was also let down. We tried another time to order via phone. This time I knew to order 2 tamales so i can be full after eating. When I bit into my tamale I pulled out a LONG, fine, black hair...... Disgusting! I was totally yucked out and Im not sure we will be going back anytime soon. I know hair happens. But its just... I cant get it out of my mind that I ppilled someones hair from my mouth as I was chewing. *gag I hate that for them. I so much wanted them to do well and succeed because we want delicious, ethnic foods in Lawrence. Tasty tamales are so special and we NEED this here. But these guys need to remember why they started. I bet it was because someone in there loves to cook. But I'd suggest wearing hairnets when making tamales (Even if you are making them at home), cutting your food consistently, and paying closer attention to ensure that folks who order things get what they order. I def didn't want to eat chicken that day. Cheers!

The sopes looked good, with a mountain of fresh lettuce, but the meats were inedible. At 5:00 pm on a Saturday, I would have expected the food to be fresh for the dinner crowd, but it was not. The clerk was aloof, we had to ask for sauce to try and add some flavor to the sopes. Dirty dishes overfilled tubs near the trash. What an unappetizing mess. Won't be back.

That was a long time ago, and my clothes have dried-off since then. Our dinner last night was really good. I've been to practically every Mexican restaurant in Indiana at least once, and they all tend to become the same place after a while, but the fajitas last night were outstanding. The restaurant is in a great location and is always clean and busy but never have to wait more than a few minutes even at peak times because they have plenty of tables and staff. I truly only have one complaint and that's cost. I've watched the prices creep up over the years on our favorite items. I'd still say it's worth it per se, but it has made us venture out to try other less expensive Mexican restaurants more often. But we do always come back to the tried and true, eventually.
