Decided to check this location out for something new, the service was great, when I sat down, I was immediately given water and chips and salsa. After checking out the menu I decided on three tacos, I had the Birria, el pastor, and shrimp they were very tasty! I also had to try the elote, it was very tasty! A perfect combo of spices and cheese. I also had the lime margarita, which was a good addition to the dinner. My bad for not checking my carry-out order before I left the restaurant. Because if I would have, I would've noticed that they didn't include my burrito and side of refried beans. They didn't give me about $12 of what I ordered. But it's only half my fault because they should have given me all of my food in the first place. Oh well. I had high hopes for Taqueria Puebla because I saw tripa and lengua on the menu, and even though I don't eat stomach lining and tongue, that's usually a good sign if you see that on a Mexican restaurant's menu. My taquitos were OK. I think taquitos are something you should only order when you're dining in, because my takeout taquitos were a little soggy. It's probably because they were on top of a lot of shredded iceberg lettuce. The taquitos were served with some sour cream but no guacamole. The carne asada burrito was very tasty and probably the only thing that saved our meal. They make a mighty great asada burrito here. It is your typical Midwestern burrito, with lettuce and tomato, but the meat tastes grilled and nicely charred, and it's chopped into small bits. I don't know -- I think I got off on the wrong foot with Taqueria Puebla because of the missing items from my order. I would be fine with eating here again, though. I probably will at some point just to give it another shot. read more

Below is my updated review but I felt bad after posting it yesterday because I was definitely HANGRY and was also buying food for co-workers. I talked this place up really big. I just wanted to give a forewarning if it came out harsh. The people are really nice, but it's frustrating to have the same problem over and over again with multiple people. I have a problem with my food EVERY SINGLE TIME!! SOMETHING IS ALWAYS MISSING WHETHER I DINE IN OR TAKE OUT. this time they gave me 3 tortillas for 2 orders of fajitas. Don't do take out fajitas. They give you a portion of the food. Check the other pics of my fajitas when I dine in. Also they always lease stuff out of your order. Double check before you leave!! What's this? A new family-run taqueria less than a mile from my house? I'm in so much trouble. Taqueria Puebla is located in the strip just off 75th and Shadeland, down from Walgreens, next door to the Jet's Pizza. I learned about Taqueria Puebla when a first-time review popped up in my 'near me' Yelp feed (thank you, Chandler C!) and I decided to go the next day for lunch. They currently have a $6.99 lunch special that is your choice of 2 tacos, rice, and beans -- so that's what I got for my inaugural take-out visit. I'm not sure if the special will change in the future, but I am excited to see what else they add. Turn around time was pretty quick -- I maybe waited 5-7 minutes after ordering at the counter and was out the door. Of note, they also take call in orders and say they can usually have it ready in about 10 minutes. Noted. Once I got home and had a taste of my yummy, authentic chicken and pastor steak tacos (no onion), I knew I needed to do the right thing and cut them in half to share with the hubs when he got home. That's true love, folks. Their meats are perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and not at all dry. The beans were a little runny and the rice wasn't a show stopper of a side, but my focus was on those tacos, y'all. So. Good. Once the hubs tasted the tacos I had set aside for him, we turned around and went in the same night for dinner. Eating in was a whole different experience. The interior is definitely no frills, the tables and chairs are a little beat up, the decor is seriously lacking, but dang it -- the food is ON POINT. Isn't that what really matters anyway? When dining in they bring you a basket of freshly fried chips, salsa, and a side of queso blanco! Queso? For free? Yes, please! I'm not sure if it was because our sweet server recognized me from my recent visit or what, but I'll take it! I opted for a steak burrito ($6.99) for my second visit along with a side of rice and beans ($2.99). Silly me thought that just a burrito would not be enough to fill me up so I added the r&b. Enter *WRONG* buzzer sound here. This burrito was huge-gantic. Like half of it was hard to hold with 2 hands kinda huge. As soon as she sat my plate down, I knew I was gonna need a to-go box. I mean, I've been known to take down a burrito in my day, but this was a whole nutha thing. Taste wise? Absolutely the best burrito I have had in recent history. Seriously. It was chock full of steak, rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and avocado. Heaven in a tortilla. The hubs got and loved the ground beef burrito and liked he could customize the fillings to accommodate his allergies as well. Drink wise - they serve Mexican sodas and a few coke products in bottles as well as "fresh water" (bottles, perhaps?) from the cooler behind the counter. We opted for regular tap water on our visit in, and our server brought us our own water pitcher so we were never without refills. We were also told they would soon have beers as well. Score. We got the chance to chat up our server a little as it was a slow evening for them. She said her father was the one cooking on the grill along with her uncle (there are 12 uncles total I think she said) and the whole family is involved in this restaurant in some capacity. What a gem! I was craving tacos like nobody's business and happen to be on this side of town. Normally I just go to a fast food chain if I am hungry late in the evening because there always seems to be fewer places open on the East side of town but I was in luck this place was open so I had to check it out. Dang was I surprised, I ordered 4 tacos of Lengua and 1 steak quesadilla. The food was fresh, authentic, delicious and so flavorful. The salsa both green and red were fabulous. Solid authentic Mexican spot in Castleton. Would definitely return. We were the only diners in the restaurant for Sunday lunch for the first 15 minutes or so of our visit, so the place wasn't super busy. Nor was it super fast compared to a lot of Mexican restaurants (but it wasn't remarkably slow either). Service was just ok, but contrary to what another review said both of the 2 employees present spoke English, one very well. One waitress was pretty quiet and didn't seem to be in the greatest mood, other was a little loud but in a good mood. My tacos (pollo and al pastor) were both very good. Neither were the best I have had but they were a solid 4 stars each. The al pastor has pineapple, always a nice touch. The spice on both of these tacos is not too crazy but the overall flavor of them definitely depends way more on the spices than the individual ingredients. My dad had an item that was on special, the cemita de cabeza, which is a type of sandwich with a fluffy, sesame-seeded bread. This one had cabeza (head) meat, which was a little fatty but tasty, along with several other ingredients including cilantro and raw jalapeños. My mom had a tamal + enchilada combo. The beans were outstandingly tasty. Rice was pretty good too. Tamal was pretty yummy, not the best consistency ever, but the meat was well-seasoned. On the other hand, the enchilada was not very good. Cheese wasn't the right consistency and my mom didn't care for the sauce either. Chips and salsa were pretty good. Nice chunky salsa. They have three or so kinds of aguas frescas...the jamaica was delicious and came in a GIANT glass (check review pictures). Definitely a bang for your buck. Overall this whole place was a bang for your buck, $28 for lunch for three people with two drinks. Here's a weird thing. You know when they bring silverware out to you at a restaurant and it's wrapped inside a napkin with a little sticky thing holding it in place? Taquería Puebla for whatever reason uses TAPE. Like Scotch tape no joke. Aka the napkin just rips completely. Minor thing but I thought it was funny. Overall not perfect but we definitely liked it enough that we want to come back. This is a great little taqueria! The tacos are amazing and the Elote Corn is sooooo yummy. The chicken is white meat and they double up the corn tortillas so tacos don't fall apart. I love eating local/small business. Have been here a few times and food quality has varied every time. Decided on Taco Tuesday to get their special. Got a beef and Pollo taco, and they were very good. Very filling. The chicken was a little dry but good. I'm guessing that they have a lot of orders and pre cook the chicken. Everything else was great. Will be on my list of places to visit for lunch! read more

Went and they were closed during posted hours. Have a sign on their window with new hours but haven't change online hours. We called to see if they would be open and they said until 9pm. My husband went to get the food that we ordered and when he got there the cashiers got irritated because he was there in 15 mins after she told him that the food would be ready in 10. He got ugly stares from customers and the cooks and the food was all over the place by the time he got home. They forgot one of our orders and everything was cold. Another update... We are having lunch here on Labor Day and they are just finished putting down a new TILE FLOOR. Wonderful! This is a great improvement. The carpet was in bad shape. This gives a much lighter feeling to the room (tan tile vs red carpet). And it will be soon much easier to clean. :-). read more

This place is super comfortable, cute, and offers a ton of affordable deals (combos for 7 dollars, great for broke teens like us)! Staff was friendly and frequently checked up on my boyfriend and I. Portion sizes were good, we both finished our meals and felt content and had some of their fresh made chips to spare. To be honest, I'm not sure if I want to come here again. The food wasn't bad, but I have definitely had better. I came here for lunch takeout for husband and I. The woman who was taking my order was also on the phone taking an order and talking. I ordered two beef tacos and one chicken taco. She only put me down for the beef tacos. I got the lunch fajitas, and they were fine. I also ordered chips and salsa since she said it doesn't come with the meal( which did throw me off because literally every single other establishment I have been to, chips and salsa comes with). I also didn't receive it cause she didn't put me down for some even though she said okay after I asked for her to add them on. I just feel if you're taking orders, you should definitely take one order at a time. Who does that? I didn't have time to wait since I was already waiting almost 40 minutes for my order. I got a coke in a glass bottle and that didn't really taste the best either. I had been stalking this restaurant ever since I saw the Coming Soon sign on the building which seems to be over a year ago. I've been so wanting a authentic Mexican restaurant in Castleton. I was finally able to get there for lunch today. My anticipation is that this would be a order-at-the-counter restaurant but it actually is a sit down restaurant with what looks like repurposed furniture and little décor. I did notice that the building was cold and it seemed the air conditioning went on as we were eating. It would be good to brush off your Spanish if you go here as I think there was only 1 person in the restaurant that spoke English. Luckily, the young girl was our server and I didn't have to try to fake my way through my Spanish. So the 5 star rating is for the food! For comparison sake, I ordered street tacos asada and lengua with onion and cilantro. My son ordered a lunch combo with a beef burrito and enchilada served with rice and beans. The street tacos were on point! The asada was finely diced cooked with a little char on the outside but tender on the inside and were loaded for $2.29 each. The lengua was probably the best I've had in Indiana - soft but charred on the outside with good flavor. The burrito and enchilada that my son got seemed to have a combination of ground beef and the asada meat. My son enjoyed both very much. And the beans? Texture! Bean flavor! Could it be that this restaurant is making refried beans from scratch? Both dishes came out timely and very warm. The chips that came out first were pretty standard. Heartier than most and thankfully not over salted. The pico/salsa that came with the chips was fresh and thick. The orange salsa (roasted pepper?) was very good with a nice lasting heat, but I didn't enjoy the verde salsa as well. It was very runny and tested mostly of parsley with little depth of flavor. Sodas were served in 355 mL glass bottles. No fountain drinks. People at 2 other tables eating lunch as the same time as us spoke fluent Spanish so it seems that Taqueria Puebla is attracting customers with Mexican decent. This family doesn't seem to have a lot of experience in running a restaurant but they make good food and hopefully they keep that up. They could benefit from having an additional English speaking server on the staff. Can't wait to go back. read more

I took Paul S's advice and ordered the street tacos that are hidden in the corner of the back page of the menu. Asada & lengua. YUM! Well balanced flavors, a hint of the grill, and a generous portion. Definitely a new fave place! The decor is sparse, and it was chilly inside on a 35f day, but I left warm, full and happy. If you love authentic Mexican cuisine like we do, then this place is a gem! Not a big fancy place, but a diamond in the rough. Small family owned spot. Originally when this place first opened up, I had a couple of experiences with slow service, but since then the place has been really consistent and above all has really great Mexican grub! This ain't Chi-Chi's or Chipotle folks...it authentic! Owner is a super nice guy that is always cooking in the kitchen. Our go-to's are the Taco's (Chorizo is da best!), Arroz con Pollo, and Chimi's. The red sauce they give you is knock-your-socks-off! You can dine-in here, but we always carry-out. If you require a fancy ambiance for a nice date, prolly not the best choice. It's a very simple place which is what I really like about it. They aren't trying to be something they aren't. Something very genuine about the food and experience. So glad this place is near-by! So, we decided to try this place yesterday per recommendation of some friends. I am all up for trying new places, especially Mexican. When we walked in, it was very cold. We had to leave our coats on. If you know me at all, you would know that I am very warm natured and hardly ever keep a coat or jacket on, but I had to here. The second thing I noticed was that there was only one other table being occupied. I figured that it would have been busier since we went during lunch rush. We sat at a table and the waitress walked over and just stared at us. Did not say one word just stared. Then she walked away. Came back with menus, threw them on the table, then walked away again. I was wondering if we were going to get drinks or not. When she came back a third time, I just finally spoke up and gave her my drink request. I was wanting a nice big glass of ice water. She did not understand what I was trying to request. Luckily, I know some Spanish so I spoke to her in Spanish. Then she asked if I wanted ice. DUH! Then my partner asked for a coke. He had to say it 4 times before she understood what he was saying. After we gave her our drink order, she just stood there staring at us. So, we ended up having to give her our food order as well even though I was not really ready. Shortly after that, she came back with chips and salsa. They were alright. Definitely not the best I've ever had. The food took about 15 minutes to prepare. By this time, we were the only ones in the restaurant. My partner got his food first. It smelled wonderful. He asked for no sour cream because he does not like sour cream in the least bit. It was all over his plate. When I got my food, I noticed that sour cream pretty much covered everything on my plate except for the rice. Now, I love me some sour cream, but this was just too much even for me. I ordered a burrito and a taco. I was told that their tacos were amazing. I tried the burrito first. It was just okay. Nothing special, kinda bland. The taco, also covered in sour cream, was not good at all. The beef was so overcooked that I would have considered it burnt. Had an awful taste. As we were trying to finish up the food, we both all of a sudden heard crying from a baby. I turned around, and there was still no one in the restaurant dining area. I thought that was odd. Then we went up to the counter to pay and this young girl walked out of a back room. As soon as she walked out, we heard the screaming cries of a baby again and it didn't stop until after we had left. As we were paying I saw something that absolutely disgusted me. The waitress that took our dirty dishes, placed them next to the stove where they were cooking. There was a pile of dirty dishes next to that stove. Then I saw her grab a spoon out of that pile of dirty dishes and then use it to stir something on the stove. That was it for me! I became instantly nauseous. The young girl that was taking our money did not speak English at all. She tried overcharging us, good thing I was watching.
