I was shocked to find out that this place has been here for 18 years, and I have not tried till today. I had 3 tacos with beans and rice. I would have liked some limes and cucumbers or radishes on the side. I don't know if they forgot, but I was under the impression that i supposed to get. Other than that, I was very happy with my dinner. It's not fancy at all. They have several booths for seating. I got my food to go. I noticed they have beer and margaritas. They gentleman running the shop was very nice, speaks Spanish and English, and was very patient with all my questions and requests. I got mild salsa and green sauce, and that was a perfect mix for all my food. Everything was good. I will be back as it is close. I've discovered this place years ago (2018) when I was used to work for at a beer distributing company in Lawrence, Indiana. At my lunch break I wanted tacos. There was a Taco Bell 5 miles down the street. I didn't want to drive that far for lunch. I discovered this place Taco Express only one mile from my job and decided to check it out. I ordered their soft beef tacos ate them and then I was hook! These tacos was the best I have ever had and since then I been going here for years. I love their soft beef tacos. I would order 4, 8, 10 at one visit for carry out to take home. I live on the far northwest side of Indianapolis and find it a treat to stop by to take home the best tacos in town. Taco Express is located in a building strip on Pendleton Pike. I ordered the nachos with the chips on the side so they wouldn't be soggy by the time I got home. They charged a 1.00 to separate the meat from the chips. They were doing Karaoke tonight which gave this a more lively environment. Many patrons entering were not wearing masks or asked to although the sign is posted. Now for the food: The Special Nacho had shrimp, chicken and steak. This was well full of flavor and very filling. Don't let the name fool you they have more than just tacos it's literally a Mexican restaurant I would recommend changing the name. To begin with this is a family owned place at least that's what I saw on the Yelp reviews and it does look like it. I've been here twice already and honestly it's second place that has authentic Mexican food here in Indianapolis. In addition I ordered 3 steak tacos on corn tortilla I didn't expect for them to have double tortilla which is a big plus for me. And also they put a lot of meat on the tacos as will. Another plus. Well lately I've been trying to branch out from my typical Mexican establishments to see if I can find something special. This was not it. It was not Tex-Mex. I will give it that. The horchata was decent and not over sweetened like many places. I ordered Al Pastor, Chorizo, and Lengua tacos. Of these three the Lengua was by far the best. The other two were par for Indianapolis. Very nice little taco shop, highly recommend! A group of us went for lunch and all 6 of us were pleased. The food was delicious, cheap, and plentiful. Chips were fresh and the salsa had a nice consistency to it. Ground beef taco and enchilada were quite tasty. It's a perfectly acceptable, run of the mill taqueria. There is nothing memorable about the food. If you like taqueria food, it's pretty good, but not special. The dining area inside tends to be pretty dirty. A lot of little family run taquerias can be messy, with it taking a while for someone to have time to clean off tables. Even by those standards, this place is pretty messy. That doesn't offend me as much as it might others. The family that runs this place is very nice. Everyone I've encountered in there has been incredibly friendly, including other customers. It's a decent place. But I often find myself driving past this place to other, better taquerias that are farther away. read more

Being from south Texas this place is very close to Tex-mex food I miss. I have been there several times, food is fresh, made to order and VERY good. Owners and wait staff are friendly attentive and are happy you are there. Its also fast, so good for lunch during work hours. Prices are very reasonable. I think this place is authentic as the ambiance reminds me of restaurants in Texas. Every time I have been there its very clean. They offer a good selection of beers. Any taco on the corn tortillas are excellent. The flour tortillas are store bought vs handmade but still very good. They have video music on a TV thats nice and not to loud.
