I felt like a taco today and I remember Antojitos had good tacos. I haven't been to Antojitos in a couple of years, but not much has changed. Well, the prices have gone up, like everywhere else. Tacos are $3.99 each for a basic street taco, which is the going rate in the area. You order and pay up at the counter, then take a seat until the food comes out. The clerk was a little frustrated today that I did not speak Spanish. But we managed to order a couple of chicken tacos. The menu is a mixture of Spanish and English. I like that they only speak Spanish, I feel like the experience is authentic. The dining room has about 10 tables/booths. There was some nice Latin music playing, but there was also a tv that was blasting a talk show where people were arguing. The sounds were a little unsettling. The food came out fairly quickly and the tacos were steaming. They were as good as I remember, garnished with radish and lime on the side. They offer daily specials. My friend says the breakfasts are delicious. The place is not fancy. There is plenty of parking in front. read more

I ordered a chorizo burrito, fries and a coke for $18 (seems kind of steep). The person at the counter talked me into the fries, but the burrito was huge. I could have just eaten the burrito by itself. The food was pretty good, but they served it in a basket with wax paper, which is annoying. When I cut a burrito with a fork and knife on wax paper, it's hard to not end up eating the wax paper at the bottom of the burrito by accident. The guy behind the counter was nice. This place is okay if you're in the area, but I wouldn't recommend it otherwise. read more

Our server messed up our food twice,I have a feeling she over charged me since I paid $54 for 2 quesadillas ,couple coffees and order of fried shrimp and a shake. I forgot to ask for a receipt so if you ever stop by there make sure you ask for a detailed receipt. Was craving Caldo de Res after a long night of drinking through New Years and found this spot. The place was a hold in the wall but the food was outstanding. Antojitos was rather disappointing. We tried to order delivery via Yelp/Grubhub, but after placing the order, it looked like it was for pickup only. It would have been nice if this were made clear at the time of ordering, but it wasn't a huge problem because we live nearby. When we went to pick up our order, the restaurant was packed at lunchtime, with what appeared to be no social distancing. I really didn't feel safe walking in, and it would have been more convenient to have a delivery or curbside pickup option. We'd ordered a variety of dishes, including tacos, enchiladas, a quesadilla, burrito, and a few other things. As others have mentioned, their tortilla chips are absolutely shameful and seem to come from a bag. The food was pretty forgettable, and they left out two of our entrees, while charging us for them. I had to spend 15 minutes or so on the phone with Grubhub to get a refund on the items we didn't receive, which was extremely annoying. I won't be back. read more

10 out of the 11 tables were full as I walked into this quaint restaurant, which was a good sign to start. The cashier, who was also acting as the server, was friendly and greeted me with a genuine "hola". He used Spanish and English while I ordered my food which made me feel included. I ordered a chicken sope. They used thinly sliced pieces of grilled chicken and freshly torn iceberg lettuce. The sope was medium sized so I really could have ordered 2 of them. The 1 sope I ate was delicious. I nearly cleaned my plate .... ok, I did clean my plate. I had a cup of coffee with my sope and I could tell that it was freshly brewed. My experience here on this rainy day was a good one. I will be back to try more menu items for sure. The only negative was that I didn't get chips and salsa on my table like other tables. I love the tacos here!! They are simple street style Tacos with onion, cilantro / with radishes and limes on the side... wow i'm getting hungry thinking about these. I usually get 3 total with a mix of carnitas / aka pork / pollo aka chicken and pastor (pork with pineapple) --then I realize later that two tacos would have been enough. But the price is very reasonable so an extra taco is had! When i've picked up Tacos for Takeout they are nice about adding what tastes like in house made salsa - soooo yummy - varying degrees of spicy. Final note to ease any hesitation about checking them out-- my lack of Spanish has been no problem as the staff/ owners are bilingual read more

I'd like to give it 4 stars, and the food was delicious but the service and inability to communicate effectively brings it down to 3. There is a sign on the wall warning that all is made fresh and that patrons should give it time. That's fine. But, when our food came, the server brought it in a plastic bag while we were sitting at the table. With no apology, and a kind of smug shrug. Really!?? Plus, the table was never cleared of the previous patrons' table trash until after we were "served" our plastic bagful of food, and every table there at 11:45 a.m. was in the same sad shape. I'm very willing to try this place again because what we had-- pork ribs with verde sauce was tasty. That said, I'm still trying to get over the fact that their tacos today are priced @ $4 per taco, meaning that 3 fairly small tacos is going to set you back $12, then add a drink and you are at least at $15 plus tip for a 3-taco lunch. read more

As a foodie... I was roped into a docu-series on Taquerias and traditional taco styles from different areas of Mexico. In the series, we learn about the Al-Pastor Taco and it's preparation on a spit and slicing it directly on small flour tortillas... so as I wander into Anto's I knew immediately which lunch dish I wanted when Al-Pastor Pollo Taco was listed. These were Pollo pastor, so not like the Mexico city variety, but I knew they would be good. I was not disappointed. The Tacos come two/order in basket with double tortillas grilled warm. These are topped generously with Chicken smothered with red marinate pepper mix. The cilantro and onion are finely chopped as traditional taco and couple with a fresh radish slices and lime wedges... I chased this down with a Mexico Bottled Coke and my taco crave was complete. Sign on the wall warns you to limit yourself to only 3 Cervesa, should you decide to go after hours. Omg. What a difference a week makes. Was craving the beef soup again so stopped by on a Friday night around 8. No soup today. Damn, but ok. So I ordered some dish that the waitress said was "kinda like fajitas." She didn't seem very familiar with the menu. Strike one. Anyway I said I'd like the vegetarian version that was listed. So about 20 minutes later the dish arrives. See the pic. I say, "I ordered the vegetarian version." She says,"does that have meat?" This dish had bacon, beef, ham and I don't know what other meat. Duh! Yes it has meat!! And then, "is that pineapple in there?". I said, "I don't know!" So I tasted it and confirmed for her, yes it is pineapple. Not sure why that was relevant. Anyway she goes to the back and I see them checking the order she comes back and says, "they didn't understand what I wrote, so do you want the one with just the vegetables?" I just left. Recently opened, sometime in second half of 2011. Kind of small and simple up front. Everything is clean and new. Menu is pretty much standard Mexican: tacos, tortas, etc. But the menu is not extensive with tons of combinations that you often see elsewhere, just the basics. They serve breakfast. I was there for a late lunch on a weekday, and there were several other tables still occupied. My beef torta (sandwich) was large, and fresh, and the diced meat cooked just right. Bilingual waitress. Very good service. I think they are aiming for a Mexican clientele, but the menu, presentation, and service are also acceptable for what the average gringo would expect. IE, they're authentic, plus covering all the bases. I was impressed for a first visit. Open until 10 pm weeknights. read more

This place was great the perfect cantina style tacos and tortas which are Mexican sandwiches for those who don't know the pricing is cheap very few places offer great food for cheap price the tacos are about 1.75 or less each specialty meats are a little more but no taco is more then 2.00 and they are filled beautifully I will add photos next time I'm there of the food. The chicken tacos were absolutely delicious, fresh, and moist. The chorizo had good flavor, but was a little dry and strangely crunchy. The shrimp taco was quite flavorful, too. I came here after having some delicious authentic tacos in a small town in Iowa and I had heard that this place did them right. The tacos were pretty good, but maybe a little dry. They were generously portioned though and the rice that I got on the side was delish. I was kinda weirded out by the fact that they didn't have chips and salsa. I realize this is no run of the mill Mexican joint but I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that didn't have that. Food was not good. Chilaquooes were okay meat was cold and chewy like gum. Food took forever to come out. Ordered molletes and it was very very bad. Waiter forgot our order more than twice. This little gem is hidden in a little strip mall on the northwest corner of 79th and Michigan road. we drove by several times before we were sure we saw it and tried it out. Everything is made fresh to order. The have red and green salsas delivered to the table each was very good and tasted like it was fresh made with lots of bits floating in it (like cilantro and other ingredients). The chips are from a bag, but we prefer those to the oily ones you often find. The guacamole was obviously fresh and not made up earlier in the day. It needed salt and lime but we'd prefer that to be over salted. We got a dish we'd never seen called Mollete, it was half a sub roll (like you'd get on a torta), covered with cheese then beans, potatoes, sausage and pico de gallo. It was so good we will go back just for that. We also got a beef taco. the casing was falling apart so i don't know if those were fresh, but the ingredients were fresh and not overcooked or dry. negatives: they salsa we got was taken from a dirty table where a party had just left. this can't be code as they are small dishes with a spoon. definitely not sanitary. The food took a long time. it was 20 minutes to the guac, 20 more for the Mollete and another 10 for the taco. We never did get the tamali we ordered but after an hour we needed to move on as we had only stopped in for a quick bite. you won't get a quick bite here, but you will get an excellent bite read more

We were a couple of gringos who were looking to satisfy a tamale craving, and wouldn't you know it? Antojitos had a 99 cent tamale special posted in the window. The small restaurant is everything you'd expect, with a small-timey feel upon entry. They definitely advertise to a Spanish-speaking clientele (many of the signs posted were exclusively in Spanish), but between a bilingual waitress and some basic communication with another very friendly, but English-limited waitress, we were able to order smoothly with no problems. The menu is in both English and Spanish. The service, regardless of their linguistic skills, is extremely pleasant. Our tamales were out within minutes, and they were steaming hot, fresh-tasting, and definitely handmade. I ordered the tamale verde and also had a taste of the tamale raja and both were outstanding. The cheese in the raja is perfectly melted and with just the right amount of kick. One caveat was that my tamale verde happened to have a shard of bone in it from the chicken - not a big deal to remove and it didn't detract from the overall great taste, but definitely something to keep an eye out for. If you're not a Spanish-speaker, you may feel a little awkward upon entry, but rest assured the quality of food you get for the insanely low price you pay is so very worth it. This is my first time writing a review. It was a must for this restaurant not because it was good but because the food/service was "HORRIBLE" I repeat "HORRIBLE". We ordered chips and salsa. Keep in mind they don't provide them to you, you have to pay for them and to top it off they are super stale taste like they have been sitting there for days. I ordered 1 taco de asada (hardly any meat super stingy) and a sope de picadillo (it was ok). My husband ordered a burrito dinner de asada and once again they hardly put any meat it was mostly beans and rice inside the burrito. I also had ordered Chile's torados due to their salsa being nothing but tomato (I never received them) and the young lady tried charging me for something she forgot to bring me. And in the middle of this horrible experience their kitchen light went off so they were cooking in the food in the dark. Never again going to this restaurant!!!!!!!!! read more

Friend and I came here on Cinco de Mayo, first clue it's authentic: No one was making a big deal about Cinco de Mayo. Chips, salsa and guacamole all made from scratch, in-house - guacamole is thick, slightly chunky and full of ingredients beyond avocados. Carne asada arrachera came with whole green onions, cactus, jalapeno pepper charred, rice, beans, the standard lettuce tomato salad, crema, the cheese on the beans was queso fresco. Enchiladas are lovely, apparently the red sauce is too hot for a "basic white girl" palette, but probably great for the rest of us. The tacos are spectacular, the tortillas are charred, chicken is fresh, covered in queso fresco. We didn't get any drinks other than water, but the various fruity drinks looked intriguing - next time. Expect entrees to run about $8-12, for the two of us it was about $15/each, but we also ate like happy pigs. Service was great, never had to ask for anything, food was definitely good. Menu is almost entirely in Spanish, but the waitress spoke almost accent-less English, so it's not hard to order regardless of not remembering much from high school Spanish class. :-P read more

what a great experience. This appears to be a magnet for Latin American gourmet dining. This seems to be the real deal in great gastronomy. elaborate menu, very clean, artfully decorated, great service. I want to go a few more times for a final judgement the probably take my extended family for a holiday treat. I've been going here since they opened. It's my go-to place for quick Mexican eats. It's no frills authentic Mexican. Authentic as in, the kind Mexicans eat when they're in Mexico. The menu is in English and Spanish and the servers are always bilingual. They have a selection of Mexican desserts for you to take home (you won't have room to eat one there). They have daily specials, with pozole on the weekends that is done really well. The only thing this places lacks is a license to sell beer. I need a Corona with my tacos de cabeza!
