They have an impressive selection of tequilas, and the bartender (Jenni or Jessi--sorry if I got the name wrong) was very pleasant and extremely knowledgeable. She made me an excellent margarita. But don't think the drinks are the only highlight--the food is just as good. I ordered the beef fajitas, and the steak was cooked perfectly, tender and full of flavor. We went here with another couple and thankfully had a reservation. For me, the restaurant was very loud. It was busy and the music was also a bit loud. If it had just been my husband and I, we would have preferred the bar seating. The service was quick. I enjoyed my organico margarita. As far as food, my husband had the fajitas that had pork shoulder and pork belly. The flavor was nice but some of it was very fatty. As far as the rice and beans, he said they were cold. He wouldn't really eat much if they had been hot so he didn't bother to say anything. I had the tuna ceviche. Wow! I came to Tequila Chili's to meet an old friend and her daughter. The waiters were kind, professional and attentive. We did not have a reservation - but - they have bar seating ready available and we did not mind that. I recommend if you would mind or are planning a family outing to get a reservation in advance. It was a little heavy on the onions and the accoutrement (rice, beans, cheese, lettuce) was a little light for my tortilla assembly. The elote was meh and messy. The soda machine wasn't working. I had tea. But they were understaffed and I had to go to the bar to get sweetener. Then the Chili Relleno they listed in the menu which was supposed to be made with fajita chicken came out with shredded chicken! Nasty! The beans and rice were good but I was very unimpressed! This is a cute restaurant kind of tucked away off the busy street. As with any Mexican place, the chips and salsa arrived almost instantaneously. The salsa was delicious with just the right amount of sweetness. We also ordered the gauc and the queso. Both were good, too. There are a lot of margaritas to choose from here. I went with the Organica. It was good but I would try another option next time. (You can also order a flight of margs.) I tried the carne asada tacos. The waitress warned me that they were spicy and they were. Just be aware. I would totally order them again. I liked how the tortilla had a bit of toasted cheese on it. Mid tex-mex with a price tag is the only way to describe this restaurant. We went for dinner on Valentine's Day because (1) we love Mexican food (2) we were late to the game on reservations for other places and (3) we had not been here! I can confidently tell you we won't be going back. It's not that the food or drinks were bad. They were fine. But with the price of what we paid, "fine" is not worth it. We could tell tortillas were not handmade and the chips seemed they came from a Tostitos bag. Not impressed with the set up. We ordered the queso fundido to start which was very good. My husband had the birria tacos, which he seemed to like. I ordered the pollo asado, which I enjoyed also the beans and rice were not great. The ambiance was also fine but it was extremely loud. So much so, I could barely hear my husband speak and he was sitting right next to me. Lastly, our reservation was at 7. We were seated at 7 and were back in the car at 7:40. I have NEVER felt so rushed at a restaurant. I know Mexican food is usually fast, but this was almost alarmingly fast. Not to mention, we ordered a starter and drinks and were still out of there in record time. We felt like our server wanted us out of there, despite the place not being busy. Hello Tequila Chulos! I've ordered from here a few times to go, today I decided to visit this gem in person. The ambiance is nice, very big space music playing not too loud. We came as a party of two without a reservation on a Tuesday evening. We Was seated immediately! Our waitress Alexa, very pleasant and accommodating. I asked her which margarita would pair well with Don Julio Reposado. She recommended the Tamarind margarita! Very great selection I had an option to get the rim salted or tajin. This is my third time here came on a Saturday around 1:30 it wasn't busy at all sat at the bar loved the vibe in here and music is never too loud. The waitress was very nice she made me a mango mocktail very good whatever she put in it. We tried this place for a second time yesterday and it absolutely did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and our bartender was very attentive and friendly. The vibe is cool, casual but modern and a little upscale. My husband and I just moved back home from being in TX and we have been searching for any TexMex food that can remotely hold up to what we're use to getting in TX and I'm happy to say we finally found it. The carnitas and pork belly were incredible, definitely a new favorite. I also enjoyed the house salad, chicken is flavorful and seasoned well and the dish as a whole is just a really simple but nice balance of flavor and textures. Tequila Chulos is where the seafood Shack used to be near Nichols Hills. I'd heard about it and decided to give it a try on a Saturday. Place wasn't too crowded though there was a pretty steady stream of customers, mostly couples. We noticed that almost every table ordered either queso, queso fundido or the salsa flight. We did not though as we really wouldn't have finished any of them. The complimentary salsa that came to the table was delicious and the chips were definitely fresh. The menu is a nice manageable size without a lot of fluff. Pretty straightforward Mexican classics as well as a few chef creations. The price point is definitely higher than most Mexican restaurants in the city but the food quality and ambience supports the extra expense. We ordered steak chimichanga and beef enchiladas and we both enjoyed our food. I cannot say with any certainty how soon we will return only because there are so many options for Mexican food in the metro area. And very few are this expensive. The appetizers all cost over $10 and the margaritas are $14 and up. They do have an extensive list of tequilas and other liquors but I just don't think $100 for a couple's late lunch is necessary. I wanted to update my review since I did go back recently after my first visit, and still had a similar experience. However, after reading others reviews I just wanted to school some on the "spicy" note. To those that mentioned the spicy salsa had no extra flavor.. Spicy is not a flavor. It is a pain sensation caused by the chemical compound capsaicin. It releases endorphins and adrenaline which can give a person a spicy, "high" that's why it's so addictive for some like myself and others that enjoy spicy foods. So, don't ever expect a pepper to add much flavor to a dish especially a habanero pepper haha, because it's not a flavor note, it's a pain sensation. read more

I'm not going to lie, I was real skeptical that I would even enjoy Tequila Chulos because being married to my Mexican hubby, we really only focus on authentic. Luckily, I got to try them out for a girls night! MAKE SURE TO MAKE RESERVATIONS! Being a newer restaurant, they were PACKED. The place gives great vibes. The decor and size really complement well. One thing I didn't like is that the room we were in, it's LOUD. So don't think this will be a quiet intimate dinner. The service was okay. I get it, it's a newer restaurant so there's going to be lag for service. So expect slower service for sure. But another detractor was when some of my friends ordered a drink, they knew from looking at photos which one they were going to get (aesthetics and all froufrou) and got a ceramic cup. Fine, they still got their drink but presentation is a huge thing especially when you have expectations from seeing pictures online and an asking price of $14 for a cocktail. Adding to that, I had ordered a drink that included mint (which made a difference in taste might I add). I got my drink, it didn't have it, so I told the waitress. She brought out a sprig of mint lol I mean I guess I got my mint? The food actually is where I was actually pleasantly surprised. I personally had the chimichanga with the recommendation of the sour cream sauce. Is it authentic? No. But that's where the chef skills come to play. The flavors and textures are very well thought out. Tons of flavor and just so delicious. Everyone enjoyed their food! If you LOVE spicy, and I mean you actually like true spicy hot, burn your taste buds, definitely ask for the spicy salsa. Definitely would go back once the kinks are out for a newer restaurant and it gets a little calmer from being a new hot spot. This restaurant is beautiful. It is a great place to hang out with friends. We got our chips with salsa very fast, they have mild and spicy. Great service and serving fast. The food is good quality Tex-Mex, the steak fajitas is with a good quality and decent amount of meat and lots of veggies. We also have red snapper, grilled to perfection, good amount of grilled vegetables not from frozen package. The restaurant recently opened and it went better than I expected. Our server Braeden was amazing. Probably one of the best we had lately. She knew what she was doing and took care of our orders well, making sure they would arrive promptly. I had the birria tacos and they were fantastic. The consomme was excellent- rich and beefy. Apparently, this is the new hotspot in OKC because it was bustling the entire time we were there on a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't, but luckily the four of us managed to snag seats at the bar. The food is more on the fancy Mexican side, so if you're after authentic cuisine, this might not be the spot. I had the asada tacos--they were good, but I probably wouldn't order them again. Our group also tried the fajitas, chimichanga, and ceviche. The ceviche was tasty, the chimichanga had a unique flavor (my friend ended up removing some toppings), and the fajitas were good. Had a fabulous time at Tequila Chulos with 4 other friends this past Friday night! My friend made the reservations a week in advance for the 5 of us for 7:45 pm. I luckily got parking in the packed parking lot - it looked like someone had just left, so score! But there is additional parking out back and in other parking lots nearby. This place is perfect for a group of friends, birthday, or date night. Also...if you're okay with a lot of noise, then this place is great! We didn't mind because we were okay yelling to talk to each other. We all loved the food and the millenial jams. We were seated in the outer room near the cool waterfall decor that's displayed against one of the walls in a table with nice wide chairs. I liked that the table was large so there was plenty of room for lots of food. -Drinks- the drinks were great, but took a while to come out and these were the first items on the menu we ordered. Our waitress told us maybe 15 minutes after we ordered, that the bar was slow. 3 of us ordered the vodka cocktail with lavender in it (Uno Momento) expecting a drink as shown on the menu with the edible flower and in a clear glass so we can see the pretty color, but the drinks were served to us in a ceramic pot like mug. I actually asked the waitress nicely what happened to the flowers! and she explained to me that they had run out of the glasses and they usually have the flowers, but they were stored away in the bar....so she brought out ONE free Uno Momento drink served the correct way - in a clear glass, and with the flower - I just thought that was odd, but I guess a lesson learned for the staff, that the customers actually pay attention to that sort of thing. This place is vibey, so especially as ladies, we expect ALL things vibey, especially for a $14 drink! I appreciate our waitress who was very patient with me when I asked her questions about the drinks and she was very friendly and provided recommendations to friends who asked her questions about meal choices. *Uno Momento* lavender vodka drink, sweet and delicious, not too overpowering, but has the expected floral taste *Horchata* delicious horchata drink garnished with fresh cinnamon and clove. -Drinks my other friends got- *Jalapeño Margarita* very strong, but great! *Agua Fresca* very fresh and delish -Food- --Appetizers-- *Free Chips & Salsa* the chips and salsa were very tasty! I liked that the tortilla chips were not too thin or too thick, and were not too salty. We also requested a spicier salsa, which they gave us and boy was it spicy, but delicious! Just what we wanted. *Queso Blanco* White queso with pico on top, This was my favorite appetizer of the night. Very tasty with the tortilla chips. *Guacamole* very fresh and delicious. The seasoning that they added on top was subtle and they added plenty of lime, so it was the perfect amount of sour that guacamole should be, also to keep it fresh. --Meals-- *Shrimp Ceviche* $19, I ordered this as part of my meal because I wanted to eat a light meal. It was delicious, and I actually loaded chips with the shrimp, avocado, and radish. Wonderful flavoring. *Mexican Caesar Salad* I wouldn't say that this was anything great, but what I expect from a Caesar salad. The "Mexican" part of it was the pepitas and a little bit of seasoning to set it apart from a regular Caesar salad that we all know and love. The croutons are what made this salad special. They looked homemade and were chunky and freshly crunchy. Other dishes my friends ordered which they all loved so much! The beef enchiladas came out cold, though. I tried the lobster enchiladas and steak chimichanga - both were great! *Lobster Enchiladas* *Beef Enchiladas with Rice & Beans* *Carne Asada Tacos* *Chimichanga stuffed with Steak* --Dessert-- Churro Sundae - I would order this again! The churros were warm and stuffed with a cream filling. Although I'm not sure why it was served with strawberry ice cream as opposed to a vanilla or neutral flavored ice cream, it was still super delectable. We all shared this. There is plenty enough for 5 people to share especially after eating apps and meals. We each had a few biters each and there were still leftovers. Overall, I recommend this place for a fun night out, but don't expect fast service on the weekends and the portions are smaller than what Oklahomans/Texans are used to.
