Its been years since I was able to eat at Whiskey Cakes! We are in town for a volleyball tournament and wanted some good food. So the daughter and I headed on over to see if its still as good as I remember. Crab cake appetizer. You only get 1 but it had some great flavor with the remoulade sauce. The only negative was the tiny pieced shell in the crab cake. Unfortunately thats almost a given for fresh pulled crab meat. Farm salad was very fresh and had a great dressing. I believe it was a white balsamic vinaigrette. I ordered the ribeye,With garlicky spinach. The steak had great flavor. I wish it would have been more tender. But overall, the cut of steak was really good. My daughter ordered the New York strip with fingerling potatoes. The way she demolished that steak tells me that she was hungry and that it was delicious. Naturally, we ordered the whiskey cake for dessert and it did not disappoint. It was everything I remembered. I am a Whiskey Cake fan through and through! This is the type of restaurant that ensures everything on their menu is specifically chosen because they do it well, therefore you can be rest assured that whatever you order is going to be very, very good. Their menu has some core offerings that don't really change, along with other items which are seasonal based on whatever ingredients are available locally. Most things served in the restaurant are made in-house from scratch and those ingredients are sourced locally in Oklahoma which I find to be pretty awesome! Their burgers are delicious, so its extremely hard for me to come here and order something other than that, but I have still been impressed when I have ordered other types of entrees. Lastly, you have to try their whiskey cake at LEAST once. I'm weird about my desserts and only eat one type of cake, one type of pie, one type of ice cream, etc... well, I have make an exception for cake. I was with a coworker group for dinner here since it was close to our hotel, and a few of us hadn't had it before! It's a beautiful restaurant on the inside with kind of cool mood lighting and great plants! Our server started out a bit bristly, but it ended up being good service. My favorite bite was the Brussel sprouts! My fish and chips were very good also. And the Whiskey Cake dessert is definitely worth the hype. The sauces are SO good. Nice atmosphere. If your close by the mall or in area give this a try. It may not be my pick due to menu items. They use to have the best Pig sliders and also meatballs for a starter. It's been yrs since we have eaten here. A few expensive main meals and several fancy salads. They had 4 sandwiches and we tried 3 of them. Husband's BBQ Chicken was the best. Onion burger was ok. It has been almost 8 years since I ate at this location. Went with a group of four recently for a late dinner. We were seated promptly and the decor had changed a bit--more plants at the entrance which I loved. The rosemary sprig was still on the table (which I also love). We sampled the Brussels sprouts which are on the appetizer menu. I would order them as a meal. Our waiter was a little snarky but it was probably because of me. :) For my entree, I tried the kale Caesar salad. The chicken was just OK. In fact, I wish I had ordered it without chicken. We were supposed to go to Sean Cummings pub to celebrate St. Patrick's day but they had no power due to storms so we made the quick decision to come here. We were not disappointed! The service was excellent. The staff here is very welcoming and gave excellent suggestions. The goat cheese fondue is one of my favorite appetizers EVER! If you like olives, garlic, and goat cheese then this dish is like a party in your mouth. I had the fish and chips which was absolutely amazing. The portion was HUGE! Our waiter explained that it's a whole cod filet instead of cod nuggets. Their tartar sauce is delectable. We tried hard to save room for dessert but couldn't do it. The ambiance is very nice here. At the Penn Square Mall, it can get pretty busy on the weekends. It's casual and modern, usually bustling and noisy. We are usually here after a long day of shopping. Because it took so long to find parking, I did not make it to our table for even a minute before Hannah W. came to take our drink order and asked if we would give her our food order too. I had no time to even review the menu or make up my mind and Hannah W. was visibly annoyed that I didn't know what I wanted, and she wouldn't give me more time, so I opted to order nothing. For this adventure it begins with the annual drop off of fair entries to the state fair creative arts building. The hubby and I were making an early start of it in Muskogee on September 6th, which was this past Saturday.We stopped and got breakfast and coffee on the way out of town, and off we went! Once we made it to the fair and did drop off and 2 more errands(one was a visit with family), we finally made it to Whiskey Cake Kitchen to celebrate dropping off entries, getting through week one of college work(I am going back to school for my bachelors) and my 49th birthday a couple days early. My husband got his tea as usual, and I got some cold brew with sweet cream and the Thorns&Roses drink that accompanied our tableside water(the leftover sweet cream i did not use for my coffee, I used in the cocktail and was grateful I did). While we had Matthew, our waitstaff member there, we also put in our meal order. For our meal we had the seasonal deviled egg selection(for our visit, it was a pickle forward selection, which was fabulous), my husband ordered the chili and the Mac n cheese. The chili was a little too spice forward for him, but tasted great to me(even though I did get some heat on the back end). The mac n cheese though was on point as usual. For my meal, I actually got the charcuterie board, which consisted of local food from the area( which included fresh ground brown mustard, toast points, honey comb, pickled veggies, hard cheese, soft cheese, tomato jam- that reminded me of a pale marinara, spicy sausage, lavash(sp?),prosciutto?). It was a great selection to have since I could not make up my mind. For dessert we got the signature whiskey cake with homemade whipped cream(that whipped cream could be served with a side fresh mixed berries- something like strawberries, blueberries, blackberries or seasonal berries of choice). Asked to take it back and cook it to order only to have the meat pulled off the plate and the blood left on the plate with the cold fries. Finally got the steak back and wasn't even hungry after having ate most of the cold fries while waiting. An order of Grilled Salmon with luke warm with no flavor and maybe 4 mushrooms. Parents ordered two burgers well done and theirs had to be taken back too because it was bleeding red. Their burger brought back with the same buns and only the meat added back on. Not one ounce of a discount was offered. Will not be going back for that price and that poor of food quality. read more
