Peking Spare Ribs w/Fried Rice
David F.

Tried this place for the first time last night. The food looked good and the reviews I read were favorable. I ordered the Peking Spare Ribs w/ Fried Rice. They give you a nice size portion as seen in the pic. The food was also very delicious. Be careful though..They do have bones which wouldn't be an issue but I did bite into some little ones that I almost swallowed. I will definitely order again and try something new.

This is the photo from the owner compared to my photo of the fish I receive
Shellyann Marie A.

Food was OK. Compared to the owners photo of the fish and rice It was not the same. It was still OK not the best fish I had . Rice was good. I do plan on giving this restaurant another try next. I wanna try their Mongolian beef. I like how they serve lunch plates as a meal with your choice of plain rice, fried rice or noodles or vegetables. And the portion was pretty good. I also had the fried wonton strips as a little snack and those were pretty good.

Ultimate Bowl
Arisa G.

If you're the type that likes a little bit of everything in their soup, the Ultimate Bowl is the choice for you. It's one of those meals that'll probably leave you satisfied for the rest of the day. Although the broth itself is pretty bland, you really don't need the flavor with all the types of meat you get in the bowl - a lil chili sauce mixed in is all you really need (which they provide if you order thru DoorDash).

Pricey but tasty. Ordered the Mongolian beef with extra spice twice and flavors are good. Roast duck wonton noodle is good.

Since my parents live in Hayward I bring my family here very often as well. Hard to find a good HongKong style restaurants unless I go to San Francisco or Oakland but in Hayward area this is it. The staff told her we wouldn't be seated unless our entire party was present. About 4 people were late, but they still seated us. The restaurant kind of felt old and somewhat dirty. But hey, it was my dad's birthday. I wasn't paying for lunch. We occupied three tables and ordered from both the lunch and dim sum menus. I enjoyed dishes like shiu mai, pork buns, walnut shrimp, fried rice, fish, and fried noodles. The sesame balls were tasty, but the service was slow, and I had to follow up on our order. I didn't care for the bun with the hot dog or the other noodle dish. Later that day, my daughter mentioned she had found hair in a pork bun and that her cousin had eaten it. She also said every item he picked up had hair on it, which was disappointing. I didn't confirm this with my cousin, but it would have been helpful to have someone inform the staff. Fortunately, no one at our table found hair in their food, which was a relief. Overall, the food that I ate was fine, but I wouldn't make a special trip from San Jose to visit again...unless it's a fambam family treat.

We ordered the sizzling rice soup, dry-fried string beans, garlic eggplant, garlic chicken, mao pao tofu, gindo piguot (not sure how to spell it in English), and crispy seafood noodles. Their gindo piguot (sweet and sour short rib I think) really stood out and we ended up ordering 2 of them. I didn't love their mao pao tofu (still tasted good, but didn't taste like the typical mao pao tofu). Overall, not sure why they have a low rating and would consider coming back if I'm in the area!

To whom it may concern,…read more a soul who delights in rich umami flavors, tasty Szechuan has found a place in my heart. As you make your way to your seat the hostess brings you a small bowl of fried peanuts with hot tea, which is super generous. The menu offers traditional yet caters to the native Hayward resident who doesn't know much about the Szechuan region, I'm that resident . The booths and tables remind me of my childhood traditional Chinese restaurant back in Fresno, ca yet with a modern twist, in my opinion portions are generous as well which is inviting for a family feast...well done tasty Szechuan.

All dishes came out as we hoped/expected with both the chicken and fish providing the nummy sensation that is unique to Szechuan cuisine. We threw in the eggplant order because we wanted some veggies and something that didn't overtly threaten to numb our palettes and were very happy with that as well. Chicken was fried well and not dry at all which was a lovely experience. Fish was also flavorful and enjoyable to eat, although perhaps the least memorable of the dishes. I wouldn't NOT get any of the dishes again and might elevate the chicken as a must get if you're there for the a Szechuan experience. Well probably come back the next time we get a craving for that nummy feeling.

We called in for a pick up order and we got chicken and broccoli, orange chicken, bbq pork fried rice, veggie chow mein and salt and pepper prawns. The staff packed everything so nicely in Togo box that was the perfect size! There's a lot of street parking so it's easy to pull over, pick up and head home. The frustration in driving in a circle. The ambiance of the restaurant is basically a Hong Kong Cafe style. There are two areas catering small parties to big parties. The lighting is terrible though, the florescent lighting is just not for me. The food here is pretty good. They have a huge selection. Hayward doesn't have a lot of Asian catering restaurants that are cheap eats. Yeah, they opened a new banquet, but not a lot of fast, cheap foods. 1. Pork Congee with Thousand Year Old Egg - Typically very flavorful. I like to come grab a bowl when I'm not feeling well to cook. 2. Honey Walnut Shrimp - How can you go wrong? Such a western staple. 3. Pork Chow Fun - Large portion, reasonably priced, tasty enough. 4. Salt & Pepper Fish Fillet - Surprisingly one of my favorite things on the menu. Sharable portions, enough for maybe 2-4 people. 5. Salt & Pepper Prawns - Typically I would say standard, but I don't believe I enjoyed the prawns as much. 6. I finally decided to take a peek and got some take-out to bring to a family member's house for a luncheon get-together. Given the old fast food spacing, I thought this was going to be mostly a take-out spot. But this place does have some tables in there and may even rock some table service. I did a pick-up on a weekend lunch, and the inside was quite packed, almost chaotic even. The tables are jammed together, and people are bringing parties of 4-6 in here like it is a banquet hall, some even lugging strollers in that tiny space. And with all that clusterf#@'n, there is a line of people standing, waiting for take-out literally hovering over people's heads that are eating. Friggin' insane! Total 180 from 2020...member those days. Lol But I can see why people can mob this spot. The kitchen is pretty decent, not top notch but quite decent. And even though not cheap ($17+ dishes) they do give you a good amount, so I think there is a good perception for value here Combo Chow Mein ($19/3*) I got this for family members that like noodles, and I thought it was just mid. Thick yellow lo mein noodles are stir fried with big chunks of chicken, pork and shrimp. The proteins were impressive as nothing were tiny bites. But the noodles were just meh, with little wok flavor and it just seemed a bit tacky to me, versus smooth and chewy. I wanted to try the chow fun but will have to wait til next time. The reviews seem positive for that. Half Roast Duck ($18/4.5*) I only had a few pieces during our potluck and I felt they do a good job with these roast ducks. Beautiful mahogany color on the exterior, not too crisp but also not greasy and soggy. The meat was juicy and not too salty, which I applaud. Lots of bony pieces but that is the nature of this dish, it is a nibbler's jam. Salt n Pepper Pork Chops ($17.50/3.5*) Thin cut pork chops cut into smaller pick-up pieces. It is definitely marinated in that baking soda seasoning as the meat is super tender, almost squishy. There's some starch coating (cornstarch?) but the fry is so light that it doesn't get that crisp. I like it more crisp. But not sure if the steam from the box softened the crispness, but I tried one right in the car to taste while it was still fresh. I liked the seasoning as it was salty and very garlic-y, but the exterior was more sticky and tacky versus crisp. I love Canto food so I'm sure I'm gonna be back to try more dishes. Still want to try their Wonton Soups, a simple steamed fish dish with some vibrant greens and that Beef Chow Fun just to name a few. I may even eat in but definitely on a weekday/weeknight. I'm not too keen with someone hovering above my head whilst I'm having a serious nomming session. *insert shrugged shoulders emoji*
