The prices were high! My favorite conveyor sushi place at home charged $3.75 per plate. This restaurant had a color code price per plate. I ordered chicken curry katsu, which came with miso soup. The miso soup was super salty! The color of the miso was really dark, compared to what it should be. I added water to dilute the stinging salty miso soup. The chicken curry katsu was good. I wish there were veggies in the curry, which is a common thing. My husband got salmon and eel rolls, he enjoyed them. Came here for Too good to go and the food is good for what you get. The nigiri and roll is freshly made on the spot. Fried fish cakes for me were not right out of the fryer but a decent lukewarm snack to eat. Had a ten minute wait for them to make my food which is great. Honestly - the worst sushi I've ever had. My boyfriend and I came here because we wanted to try the push-up sushi roll. Immediately upon entering, the woman at the front was so rude to us. We wanted to order the push-up rolls but also eat at the go-round and she told us we could only do one or the other because you can only order the push-up rolls to-go. Eventually we sat at the go-round and it only got worse from there. The sushi was room temperature and not fresh. The push-up rolls were the same. Overall, terrible experience and will never go back. We tried the viral sushi push pop! The experience is so unique and memorable. My cuddy and me got the salmon roll. It's made fresh to order so we wait a lil for it to come out. I brought my child here for their happy hour special that runs until 4:30. We arrived beforehand and checked out at 5. We were not given any happy hour prices because of the time of check out. This is a pretty inconspicuous restaurant around the northgate area. I haven't had conveyor belt sushi in a long time, and was surprised by the inflation of the sushi plates. My family and I tried one out of curiosity, and it was good. However, I personally wouldn't order more conveyor sushi due to its price point and my own food preferences (not a big fan of sushi). I was pretty happy with the bento and rice bowl sets. Besides the plate of sushi, we ordered one gyudon, one nigiri bento, and one teriyaki chicken bento. The presentations were nice, and I felt the portion size for the gyudon and chicken teriyaki set were great for its price. The nigiri set was alright, though there wasn't much variety. If I have to be picky, I wish the cucumbers had some sort of dressing for the chicken teriyaki set, and some of the rice was clumpy in the Gyudon. Overall, I believe that choice rice bowl/sets are a good deal for this restaurant, and I'd be open to coming back if I'm craving a simple meal. read more

2/10 incase anyone was planning to try the viral sushi pop (presentation is good, taste is unfortunately below some rolls even at Safeway, great concept, great picture prop, poor execution). It's 15$ each, which 15$ in other restaurants it's a premium roll price. For an easily California looking roll we waited 30 minutes to receive. The tastes blends into a mundane rice with no pop into the palate. I would recommend the store to use fresh ingredients, trying a deep fried concept, as well as possibly changing their rice recipe or rice brand as it was very gummy. I would pay more for a high quality sushi pop roll than settle for low price one. Once again amazing concept! We came within 2 hours of closing, so there wasn't much food going around on the belt. We ordered basically all of our rolls from the wait staff. Service was prompt, but it was a little bit of a bummer to not have many options from the belt. The spicy edamame was good and well seasoned, and the taiyaki was very yummy. However, the rolls were below mediocre. They didn't taste fresh at all. At one point, we had all gotten different rolls, and 2 of us had said almost at the same time that there was a weird taste in each of them that was making us nauseous. The second roll I ordered was so bad that I asked if I could send it back and try something else, which I rarely ever do, but it was inedible. There's not many conveyor belt sushi spots, so I'm glad this is around. Their sushi is okay. I usually get the usual seared salmon, karaage, hamachi and creamy scallop. With my order, I can't really go wrong with that. If i'm still hungry, I will see what's on the belt that's appetizing enough to tie me over. I was always told that booth seating is only for groups or a minimum of 3 people, which kinda sucks sometimes when a friend and I come over after the lunch rush and are 2 guests out of the 3 other people in the facility. This sushi spot has been around for over a decade now which amazes me since so many conveyor belt sushi restaurants haven't been doing too well around here. It's been a long while since I've ate at Tengu and not much has changed. Well, except for the prices. That's definitely gone up over the years. Being right next to the movie theater and located right under an apartment complex definitely helps with giving this place a lot of business. Gets extremely busy during the dinner rush. You'll be for sure putting yourself on the wait list and waiting for at least 20 minutes for a spot. Honestly, the sushi is pretty average for it's price. But I do like the fact that there's actually sushi on the belt that I would like to eat. They offer some unique cuts also which were limited time specials. It's rare that I see a whelk or sea bream at a conveyor belt place, so they have that going for them. A lot of their rolls tend to be really saucy which can be a hit or a miss. The nigiris are decent. Nothing that really pops out except for the specials, but not because they were good, but because they have them. This was just fine for me. Sushi chef's were really nice and brought out on-demand orders quickly. Props to them for taking our order despite how busy they were. The wait staff could be better to be honest, but it's not their fault. They basically were overwhelmed and being pulled from all directions. I would say this was lackluster for me, but it was still fine. I used to love this place and rave about it back in the day. Something is missing now though, but I'm not sure what. There's some care for this place which can be seen through the sushi chefs and service. I think Tengu needs to bring life back into this place somehow. Update the decor and the dinnerware. However, this time I was near the restaurant and wanted a quick bite, the sushi on the belt are not fresh, not sure how long they have been on the display. For raw seafood, this is not something I want to put in my stomach. So I ordered a chirashi bowl which at least it would be freshly prepared. The fish is dry as well, the basis of sushi rice is hard, and I doubt it is sushi grade rice. However the price for the chirashi bowl is not as expensive as other Japanese restaurants. Decided to try this place out since their COVID-19 dine-in reopening. Upon entry, we realised that the revolving sushi would not be available as they took out the seating in the mid section of the restaurant to make room for take out orders. The place seemed quite busy and, from what I could see, there only seemed to be 3 sushi chefs and one waitress managing the entire restaurant. It took them 10 minutes to get us seated because they were more focused on the take out orders and seemed pretty flustered. When we finally reached our table, we were seated at the booth. The waitress also forgot to give us our menu along with soy sauce and wasabi. We had to request for these items. Instead of having the serve yourself revolving sushi style of eating, we had to order off of the menu and they brought us our food. Moreover, due to COVID-19, they limited their sushi menu and did not have some of the specialty rolls available to order. As a result, we ordered a combination of the salmon, seared salmon, ahi, tuna, ebi, along with the salmon collar. The salmon collar took the longest to come out, however the nigiris were made in the order the chefs received our selection. The quality of the sashimi was pretty good and we could see the sushi chefs preparing our order however the service was grossly subpar. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and attribute their service to them being primarily occupied with the take out orders. Their prices were also pretty high being a conveyor belt sushi place. Ultimately, I would recommend not returning for their dine in until they have the revolving sushi back in order. I feel like it defeats the purpose of the novelty of the restaurant and you're just getting plain sushi. If you want better sushi and service, opt for a dine in experience elsewhere!
