I am not from this area so when I heard the name, I thought this was a rip off of another restaurant. There are so many new restaurants in this category including Java. But this restaurant has a bit more and is better in a lot of ways when it comes to food I personally enjoyed this more than the competitors and ii can Say it was packed. It stays open longer than Mendocino farms across the street. In general, I would pick them over the test of its classs.

First review of 2026 and it's for Tender Greens in downtown. Let's just say I had the worst meal ever. The baked macaroni had a lot of oil. The mashed potatoes lacked seasoning - it was straight up potatoes - I think they forgot to season. I mean, it's 2026...you'd think they would check the flavors. Not starting my review year positively lol. I'm going back again today to give them another chance.

Stumbled on this place because we were looking for a quick, light, healthy option and we were not disappointed. We walked on before dinner time and the atmosphere was clean and inviting. The menu is AWESOME! My husband and I wanted to try everything! The woman that took our order was friendly and the food was fresh. My husband and I both ended up getting the same salad (Mediterranean) and it was AWESOME. The sign of a good salad is not needing dressing - and this was a GOOD SALAD. 11/10 will be back! YUM!!

This is the best Tender Greens in San Diego! I was shocked with the quality service I got since I usually go to the one in Mission Valley and that one is so mid. Food is solid, fast casual spot. Came here during jury duty lunch to grab a solid meal. I wouldn't go out of my way since downtown parking is crazy, but if you're in the area - do it! Cashier was so kind and personable and went out of his way to spell my name correctly when I typically do not care for these things. Restroom was clean (you need a code to get in). Multiple times during my lunch staff asked if I needed anything and offered gravy for my mashed potatoes as well. They also clean up after you when you leave. Such a breath of fresh air! These employees work hard and are wonderful :)

The green drink. Tasty but awkward to drink this way. $5.85. 3.5 stars. Thu doordash delivery lunch 2025-04-10

For a doordash delivery order for a work lunch, half of us were missing our dressings and had very sad lunches. I called the restaurant, was on hold for about 10 minutes. A couple people came on the phone while I was on hold and asked me the exact same questions the last people had asked me. They seemed to be giving me the runaround and I never got to talk to a manager like I requested. I ran out of time and just hung up. My friend's seared tuna nicoise salad looked good. My "The green drink" was good but came in a giant soup tupperware so was a little awkward to drink.

1. Parking is a nightmare. 2. Food is delicious and affordable. 3. Service is friendly 4. The restaurant is clean as well as the restroom. 5. I love their drinks. So overall they're A-okay in my book.

This Tender Greens location has a special place in my heart because it's one of the first restaurants my husband took me to when we were dating (8+ years ago). I've never heard of tender greens until he introduced it to me and I've been in love ever since! Tonight -- I opted for the holiday special steak bowl with cauliflower and green beans. Everything was cooked to perfection -- from my medium rare steak to the slight crunch of the string beans. This place always gets it right. The cauliflower is also worth mentioning because it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, a light sauce was added for flavor and I loved it. I want to give a special shout out to Enrique who provided amazing customer service. He's super friendly, was honest about the menu and made sure we had a great dinner experience. What sets this location apart from the others I've been to, is it's never busy (at least when I go). The food is ALWAYS fresh and cooked perfectly. Plus, Enrique asked me how I wanted my protein cooked and no other location has asked me that before. Kudos to this man! Even my picky toddler enjoys the food here. The only downside about this restaurant is the parking. There is extremely limited parking and a laz parking lot next to it, but you have to pay. It's expected though because it's in downtown sd. The ambiance is clean, inviting and plenty of seating available. I also love the high ceilings and architecture of this place. We will definitely be back :)

The food was amazing! Steak plate with seasonal vegetables and a spinach salad. Lots of food, great value. The workers were so friendly. The place is very clean. The decor is urban. A perfect 5

Wow! If only they opened one in Arizona!!! This place is amazing!! Freshest ingredients!! Plates, salads, bowls and lots of sides!! So happy to accommodate special requests. Fast service, great prices and friendly staff!! Plenty of room to eat in and they do a huge take-out business.

JUN2024 Ordered delivery. Seemed like good option for quick veggies with a bunch of carnivores so I grabbed this to save time. I had ordered the mac n cheese, baked falafel, seasonal veggies, and the greens drink. Everything was kinda bland. Being in a hotel I didn't really have much of seasonings to spruce things up or cook things so it was difficult. The mac n cheese was decent but tiny, the baked falafel didn't taste like anything and was grainy to bite through, the seasonal veggies needed some salt and to be cooked more. The greens drink was nice though as a palate cleanser after everything. Decent option but I don't think I'd use this place for an entirely vegetarian meal considering.

I have eaten here twice. I tried the salmon salad and it was delicious! I had a cup of tomato soup and it was full of flavor and had a colorful presentation with wonderful croutons! I also had the steak salad which was a fabulous presentation and was a palate teaser of excellent flavors. The staff is very efficient, hardworking and the manager even came by and spoke to all the customers at lunch. The restaurant is clean, has plenty of seating and is in a great location when working downtown.

mashed potatoes and gravy
Gracie K.

This place is usually a solid 10/10. The customer service is consistently great, and the food is generally delicious. However, today was a bit of a letdown. I waited over 30 minutes for a meal I ordered at the counter, and when it finally arrived, the gravy was already poured into the mashed potatoes in the to-go container. Please don't do that it's much easier to reheat and customize the meal when the items are packed separately. I had planned to use the gravy for the steak, too. Also, the portion of meat felt a little skimpy for a $22 meal (plus tip). That said, the restaurant was very clean as always, they refilled my drink on the way out without me asking, and they made sure I had silverware. Not a total loss and the kid working the front was pretty cute. (Sorry about the mashed potatoes pictures. I got hungry half way thru this)

"Seasoned potatoes"
SS S.

In order from this location on DoorDash. Took pictures of the food we couldn't eat because the food was stale and old and un chewable. The mashed potatoes looked like it was old and kept in the fridge, the gravy was cold and thick like jelly. The potatoes felt like plastic and had a weird white film over them. And they had the audacity to reply to my DoorDash review with a $5 off next order. I WILL NOT BE ORDERING FROM THERE EVER AGAIN!!! Are yall insane?! The food wasn't even edible! I want a full refund! Food: We had a few options like always. I mean why not right! We started with * Tempura Rock Shrimp - this was crazy good. I did not expect the flavors to punch me in the mouth like it did. Crispy, light batter, the glaze and toppings really made it a phenomenal appetizer. I would highly recommend this dish. It is small in quantity but if feeds 2 people easily. * Crab Cakes - the crab cakes are good they do have a nice crispy texture on the outside but the inside is tender and packed with your normal Crab Cakes flavors. Not a bad choice. It was fresh and the portions are above average. * Balboa Rolll - somehow this roll with so many different flavors and textures went so well together. Cuddos to the chef for this one. The scallions on top changed the entire roll. I really loved this one. Would definitely order it again. Portion size was larger than the average roll. * Overstuffed Bacon & Eggs - this one was crazy!! It's literally a tower of deviled egg yoke with bacon, bits of celery and paprika on top. This was my least favorite only because the amount of yoke compared to the actual egg you get didn't add up. Once the egg is gone you're left with a mountain of egg yoke. It's way to much for my taste. The yoke also seemed a little dry and pasty. For deviled egg lovers this is a dream come true. * Skirt Steak & Eggs - wife said it was really good and the red chimichiri complimented the steak just right. The portions were large, the steak was juicy and cooked perfecrly to her request. With skillet fried smahed potatoes and toasted buttered bread. Very good option for steak lovers. Service: The staff was great from the check-in booth to the waiter everyone did such a great job and was so polite. I couldn't help notice that everyone was smiling and super helpful. This is a great team working at that restaurant. Bar tenders were on top of drinks which was nice to get your drink shortly after ordering. Atmosphere: It's an ocean side restaurant or should I say on the ocean restaurant with wall to wall windows showing the ocean and the beautiful San Diego landscape. Really enjoyed the area and activities. Price: The appitizers were above average prices but hey!! Totally worth it. It ranged from $16-$30 per dish, its really not too bad for the quality of food and service. Location: It's located in Seaport Village which has so many different places to try and plenty of businesses to walk and find some really cool things. Parking: It's a pay to park lot but we found parking fairly easy but it is pricey to park there. I think we paid $24 for a couple of hours.
