Came here during jury duty lunch to grab a solid meal. I wouldn't go out of my way since downtown parking is crazy, but if you're in the area - do it! Cashier was so kind and personable and went out of his way to spell my name correctly when I typically do not care for these things. Restroom was clean (you need a code to get in). This Tender Greens location has a special place in my heart because it's one of the first restaurants my husband took me to when we were dating (8+ years ago). I've never heard of tender greens until he introduced it to me and I've been in love ever since! Tonight -- I opted for the holiday special steak bowl with cauliflower and green beans. Everything was cooked to perfection -- from my medium rare steak to the slight crunch of the string beans. This place always gets it right. The cauliflower is also worth mentioning because it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, a light sauce was added for flavor and I loved it. I want to give a special shout out to Enrique who provided amazing customer service. He's super friendly, was honest about the menu and made sure we had a great dinner experience. What sets this location apart from the others I've been to, is it's never busy (at least when I go). The food is ALWAYS fresh and cooked perfectly. Plus, Enrique asked me how I wanted my protein cooked and no other location has asked me that before. Kudos to this man! Even my picky toddler enjoys the food here. The only downside about this restaurant is the parking. There is extremely limited parking and a laz parking lot next to it, but you have to pay. It's expected though because it's in downtown sd. Extremely Disappointed by the Lack of Professionalism and Customer Service - Tender Greens Downtown I rarely leave reviews, but my experience at Tender Greens Downtown was one of the most unprofessional customer service interactions I've had. I called ahead to ask about the Veggie Bowl and whether it included falafel, since I wanted to modify my order by removing it and adding chicken. The employee's tone was immediately dismissive and short "Yeah", and the interaction continued in an unfriendly manner. The employee also demonstrated a clear lack of soft skills in handling a simple customer inquiry there was no patience, no clarification, and no effort to communicate in a welcoming or professional tone. When I asked if there was an issue with my questions, she said I had an attitude first and that I shouldn't expect a better attitude if I gave one. I ended the call and decided to order in person. When I arrived, I could hear the same employee and the manager openly discussing my phone call on the kitchen line close to the register in front of customers and a male staff member who was also taking peoples orders. When I arrived, I was standing close enough to clearly hear everything being said. The employee who had answered my phone call and the manager, Tatiana, were openly discussing me and the phone conversation while preparing food in front of customers and other employees. They were going back and forth about the interaction, and Tatiana was not attempting to redirect the conversation or handle it professionally. Instead, she appeared to be agreeing with the employee, matching her attitude, and reinforcing her version of events. As a customer standing there listening, it was extremely uncomfortable to hear both an employee and the manager openly criticizing me on the restaurant floor instead of taking the conversation to a private area. I interrupted the conversation and said, "You do realize I'm standing here listening to everything you're saying?" I explained that discussions involving customer complaints should be handled privately and away from guests. Instead of acknowledging my concern or attempting to de-escalate the situation, the employee continued arguing with me while Tatiana allowed it to continue. When I asked if she was the manager, she confirmed she was and said she was "protecting" her employee. While supporting staff is important, it should not come at the expense of addressing a customer concern or maintaining professionalism. I also asked for the District Manager's contact information and was told it wasn't available. When I requested the employee's name, the manager asked the employee in front of me if she wanted to provide it, and she declined. The manager identified herself as Tatiana, and said the District Manager is Cecilia. What stood out most was not the initial phone interaction, but the complete lack of professionalism in how the situation was handled in person. At no point was there an attempt to de-escalate, apologize, or resolve the issue appropriately. Tender Greens promotes hospitality and respect, but that was not reflected in this experience. I ultimately went across the street to Chipotle, where the service was efficient, respectful, and professional highlighting the difference in standards. I hope this is taken seriously as a coaching opportunity for leadership. Customer service is defined by how issues are handled, and this situation fell well below an acceptable standard. read more

I had ordered the mac n cheese, baked falafel, seasonal veggies, and the greens drink. Everything was kinda bland. Being in a hotel I didn't really have much of seasonings to spruce things up or cook things so it was difficult. I have eaten here twice. I tried the salmon salad and it was delicious! I had a cup of tomato soup and it was full of flavor and had a colorful presentation with wonderful croutons! I also had the steak salad which was a fabulous presentation and was a palate teaser of excellent flavors. This place is usually a solid 10/10. The customer service is consistently great, and the food is generally delicious. However, today was a bit of a letdown. I waited over 30 minutes for a meal I ordered at the counter, and when it finally arrived, the gravy was already poured into the mashed potatoes in the to-go container. Please don't do that it's much easier to reheat and customize the meal when the items are packed separately. I had planned to use the gravy for the steak, too. Also, the portion of meat felt a little skimpy for a $22 meal (plus tip). That said, the restaurant was very clean as always, they refilled my drink on the way out without me asking, and they made sure I had silverware. I called directly and Camilla was patient , kind and offered a refund because the order had gotten mixed up. Love coming here for lunch from work. First off, from Ricky, the manager to the entire staff, everyone is amazingly friendly and if there's ever an issue, they are quick to remedy it. I love both the salt and pepper chicken and the barbecue chicken and I love the side arugula salad. The roasted potatoes and the mac & cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy are also super legit. It's always clean in there and I really like their lemonade as well. Tender greens is great!! This chain consistently serves quality food for a reasonable price with great service, and this Tender Greens location is no exception. First, in terms of location, this Tender Greens is right smack-dab in the middle of Downtown San Diego. I walked, but I imagine parking may be difficult. Nonetheless, its central location makes it a great and convenient stop if you're in the area and feeling hungry. When I walked in, the place was relatively empty, though I had gone at a relatively early hour for dinner. So, our orders were taken right away, and we were seated immediately. The food didn't take too long to come out, either. Please note that the bathrooms are locked, and you need the code to get it; simply ask one of the employees after you've placed your order. The ambiance and decor were really nice--I was shocked! Of all the Tender Greens I've been to, I'd say this one was decorated the nicest. In terms of the food, I got my usual plate with shrimp, romaine (the Caesar salad), and seasonal vegetables. Last time I went to Tender Greens (a different location), the bread was hard and inedible. However, this location cooked it much better, and I was actually able to enjoy my side bread. I highly recommend the seasonal vegetables--the carrots are my favorite (and this is coming from someone who usually don't like carrots). I asked for light dressing, however, they gave me a lot. Maybe ask for it on the side. If you want to take your meal to go, they provide boxes, plastic utensils, and bags on the counter near the cashier. Very convenient!
