Turkey/Avocado Swiss with pickles and bacon

I heard this was a really popular spot to go for sandwiches so I was excited to check it out. I was afraid of a long line but luckily it was empty. Monday for late morning is the time to go! They have a pretty big menu of cold and hot sandwiches. I got the Turkey/Avocado Swiss and added pickles and bacon. The subs are huge! Decent amount of meat but glad I added the bacon for extra protein. I brought it to the zoo and it held well. I ate one half and the other a few hours later. I definitely recommend!

Located right across from the Bristol and opens early (unlike place next door to Bristol which is literally a breakfast place. It doesn't open till like 10 ‍) Lots of subs options, which looked delicious but we didn't try as there for breakfast. Basic breakfast sandwich options, with a perfectly toasted bagel, crispy bacon and generous amount of cheese. The husband got sausage and loved it. Pricing decent and friendly service. 100% come here over the corner bakery cafe chain up the street that has thin sad bacon at double the price.

GRAB N GO is my go-to lunch spot! Their lentil soup is absolutely delicious--comfort in a cup--and the sandwiches are toasted to perfection. Portions are generous and keep you full all day. Fresh, tasty, and satisfying every single time. Love this place!

Fresh and toasted bread, quality ingredientes, great service and friendly staff. I stopped here during rush hour so it was kind of hard to find a seating, but overall I recommend this place.

This little shop has made to order subs, pre-made salads, chips and bottled/fountain drinks. They have some tables outside that you can eat and a small dining area inside. Some of the tables are in bad shape though. They have smooth jazz music playing throughout the dining area. In addition to their regular menu, they have daily special sandwiches. The staff there was nice enough. There is metered street parking and a commercial lot near the shop. It dies get packed here. The line was out the door when I was there. I ordered the Italian sub. You can get it cold or toasted, I got the former. I made my order to-go and it took about 12 minutes to prepare. The subs are decent sized, but they are a lot of bread. My sandwich was good. I have hade better and I have definitely had worse. The bread was fresh, but drowned out the meat and stuff. It should be mentioned that someone in my group got a sandwich, and requested no mayo. When we got to where we were eating, he found that his sandwich was loaded with mayo. Would I eat here again? Probably. It is reasonably priced and was very convenient.

Grab & Go Subs is a hot spot in downtown San Diego off of C Street for lunch sandwiches. The weekday I went it was really busy but they have everything down to a science and provide friendly and efficient service. You order your food, pay and wait for your number to be called. I ordered a Meatball Sub on this day and, as you can see by my pic, it's not super large in width but it is really tasty and the marinara is delicious. I only mark it down one star because I thought it was a little skimpy on the meatball size. I will try something different next time and report back. There is zero free parking in the area so walking or ride share is probably best. As for seating, they have a few tables and maybe six bar seats to eat in if you're lucky enough to grab one.

I went with a godfather sandwich and the first thing I noticed is that the sandwich is absolutely stuffed. I was also surprised at how good the Dutch crunch I chose tasted (it had a slight chew but was also fluffy at the same time). It definitely wasn't the cheapest sandwich (after tax it was around 19 bucks) but based on the ingredients and amount of meat I'd say it's fair value!

The sandwich at around $15 is pricey but feels more appropriate for what you're getting. A $12 smoothie isn't unusual in San Diego, but when the taste doesn't back it up, the price becomes a lot harder to justify. Food/Drinks: [3.5/5] Chicken Salad Sandwich -- A 3.8/5 for me. I'm from the South, so I have a pretty solid benchmark for what good chicken salad tastes like. For a healthier take on it, this one actually holds up--the dill was a nice touch and the soft whole wheat bread worked well. That said, I'm judging it on taste alone, not its nutritional value, and it's decent but not exceptional. It also came with vegan bacon bits, which I didn't mind. A solid sandwich, just nothing that wows you. Strawberry Delight Smoothie -- A 3/5. It's clearly a nod to Hailey Bieber's Erewhon smoothie and it looked the part, but the taste was just okay. I swapped the almond milk for 2% due to my nut allergy, which the staff accommodated easily, but even still it didn't wow me. At $12 I was hoping for more. Ambience: [4/5] The interior is on the smaller side but I came on a beautiful day and sat outside, which made for a lovely lunch break. One Paseo is a nice area to be in, so the outdoor experience saves it. Overall Experience: [3.7/5] Jan's is a cute concept and I get the appeal, especially in that setting. But the prices are genuinely hard to justify when you're right next door to Cava, where your money goes a lot further. I'd probably come back for the vibes on a nice day, but I'd be much more selective about what I ordered.

It is a cool concept. I finally got the chance to try it out. I walked in and there was a solo customer and a group of three people ahead of me. The solo customer had just finished her order and I was focused on the menu so not really paying attention. Basically, you choose your base, additional add-ins, a protein, and dressing. The party of three in front of me were kind of talking amongst themselves and told me that I could go ahead. As I was ordering, I noticed they changed their mind and abruptly headed out. I was unsure why. The place is clean and ingredients look super fresh. As I was finishing up my order, I saw why they changed their mind and left. The woman serving me was helping me cut up my protein (chicken) and scooped it up with the knife and her gloves hand. She proceeded to pick up the remaining pieces with her gloved hand and place it in my salad. She immediately grabbed a towel and wiped her gloved hands with said towel. I was shocked and grossed out at the same time! She then rang me up (with same gloves on) and packed my order ina bag. I did not see her change her gloves at all. I understood why the party of three in front of me left. I was hopeful that the gloves were relatively new. I thought if I air fried the chicken well enough before the eating it with the salad, I might be safe. I was wrong. I had food poisoning. The salad was likely compromised by the chicken, but it could easily have been the chicken too (although I heated it up really well). I know it was from the salad because this was the only thing I ate that day and within the last 24 hours. When I work my shifts, I fast and when I get off, I sleep and get food a few hours after I wake up. It is sad because this place is clean and ingredients look fresh. The woman who handled my food was relatively friendly. I think she just needs retraining. This is why food servers get food handlers cards. I did scope out the place the next time I was eating at Flame Broiler. It was a different server and he changed his gloves and appeared to handle everything properly. That's why I can't give this place just a one star. Just be aware of how your food is being handled when you go in. Gloves are good if you change them and know how to handle food properly... otherwise, they are pointless! 0 / 5 - Food (poor handling) 3 / 5 - Cleanliness 3 / 5 - Service 2 / 5: Overall

My favorite salads are the Grapevine and Duck Cranberry. For sides I recommend the potato salad and tomato basil bisque. The aioli they use is to die for -- can't hurt to get a side of it with any sandwich! The restaurant is situated on the corner of Park Blvd. and Polk Ave. (more generally, it's on the strip of Park Blvd. between University Ave. and El Cajon Blvd.). On the first visit, Zack provided exceptional care and attention while helping navigate food allergies. Zack took the time to carefully check ingredients, double-check preparations, and personally come back out to verify everything to ensure safety. That level of care made the experience feel genuinely welcoming and stress-free. The chicken sandwich was fresh, satisfying, and thoughtfully balanced. Juicy chicken, ripe tomatoes, creamy avocado, and a bright splash of oil and vinegar came together beautifully on Big Front Door's roll, which had a great texture and held everything together well. The flavors were clean and vibrant. A little extra salt would have pushed it over the top for a salt-lover, but that came down to personal preference rather than any shortcoming. A dining companion ordered the avocado sandwich and could not stop raving about it, praising both the flavor and the freshness. The outdoor seating area deserves special mention. The shaded space was perfect as I do have sun allergies, especially for anyone who prefers relief from direct sun. The care taken in food preparation added an extra layer of comfort and trust. The second visit somehow raised the bar even higher. Micah went above and beyond to accommodate physical ability needs with patience, attentiveness, and genuine kindness. That effort did not go unnoticed and made the experience feel deeply respectful and inclusive. The roasted chicken sandwich ordered on the second visit was phenomenal. The roasted chicken was tender, savory, and full of depth, elevating the sandwich even further. Adding a bit of extra salt brought all the ingredients into perfect harmony, making every bite more satisfying than the last. This sandwich has officially earned a spot as a new favorite sandwich. Big Front Door was amazing not just for delicious, thoughtfully prepared food, but for the people who work there. Zack and Micah created an environment where care, kindness, and respect were clearly prioritized. No moment felt rushed, dismissive, or uncomfortable. At no point did anyone make the experience feel like a burden or inconvenience. A sincere thank-you also goes to the team members who prepared the food. Even without knowing names, the care taken to keep guests safer while serving delicious nourishment was evident and deeply appreciated. Big Front Door comes highly recommended for the flavorful sandwiches, the shaded outdoor space, the welcoming atmosphere, outstanding customer service, and the genuine kindness shown at every action.
