Going in if it's your first time might be a little confusing because there's a tacos shop right there and that looks like where you would go in Giorgino's door is a solid gray that you would think would be like a back door or maybe an old school speakeasy so it's blink and end up in the taco shop. I don't know what's the real story behind Giorginos these days is but the quality and portion size went off a cliff while the prices just keep going up up up. Apparently it's still the same owners but even the old Giorginos sign has been gone from the front for years. If you didn't know it was there you'd have no idea what the place even serves. That of course is if you're lucky to catch them open. Theyve already had bizarre hours for the past couple years, close at 730pm every night they are open. They said due to staff shortage. Now the hours are 1045-2pm the days they are open with the same reasoning given. I live nearby so it was convenient albeit expensive. Last time I went last month after raising the prices yet again 2nd or 3rd time the past year, it cost 25.77 for the standard wit out and a side of fries. Again the portions are nothing like the pics from years past. Its mostly bread and never stuffed full like pics seen here from years ago. I guess the strangest thing is I have never seen a Now Hiring post, sign or anything mentioned anywhere so clearly they aren't interested in hiring and paying a staff. First time here to try their Philly cheesesteak! Let's start with the inside of the restaurant. It is small and stuffy if I must say. I wish there was some kind of air circulation. There is outside seating if you feel too crammed in. The service was great and the food came out quick. The indoor seating isn't too large and so I ordered for my sandwich to-go and they had it ready in about 10 minutes. I've eaten at Giorgino's a few times over the years, and honestly, I wasn't a fan until I realized that the trick to enjoying a meal there is to ignore all suggestions that the place is in any way like an East Coast steak or hoagie shop. I was able to experience today the amazing sandwich world of Giorgino's, which is just north of the 94 freeway on 28th St. in my quest to find the best sandwiches in San Diego, my search led me here, and I definitely found a gem that I will be returning to The inside of the restaurant takes you back to the family Italian restaurants of the East Coast, with a small bar and surrounding dining room. There were so many things I wanted to try this first time: Giorgino's offers a litany of different sandwich options, most notably hot sausage and Parmesan subs as well as different levels of seasoning on their cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteak subs. For my first time in, I opted for the gaucho cheesesteak sandwich with mushrooms, chimichurri, and melted mozzarella cheese. It did not disappoint: it was intensely flavorful, scalding hot to the bite and covered in melted cheese. The chimichurri taste of the steak was exactly what I was looking for. I was tempted to put cheese whiz on it, but opted not to this first time. I also stayed away from the pesto or garlic fries, as I was eating this meal in the car. Service was friendly, and the cheesesteak came out promptly within five minutes as I relaxed at the bar and took in part of the day's college football games from the TV that hung above. It is notable that Giorgino's get it's sausage and meats from the butcher across the street, Sepulveda Meats & Provisions, which makes its sausage on-site. Bravo. read more
