Wow! What an incredibly lovely dining experience. We stopped by TEN for drinks and dinner before the big Garth Brooks concert in June. While we didn't have a ton of time, our waiter, Thomas, ensured that we were able to have time for salads, drinks, dinner, and still make it out in time to get to the concert. Our waitress in the bar was outstanding as well. The food was incredible. Even the salads! Highly recommend the steaks. I am really disappointed. I booked reservations there for a business dinner. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. That's where it all fell apart. First, some of us sat for 10-15 minutes before we were asked for our drink orders. Then, we waited another 20 minutes for our drinks. Then another 20 before we were even told the specials. After the specials were given to us, the waitress walked away. Literally walked away before we could even get her our orders. When we finally DID place our order, we waited over an HOUR for our food. The reason? Apparently, they had a large party who just walked in with no reservation, and apparently, according to the waitress, the kitchen wasn't prepared for it. Excuse me? If you want to open a fine dining restaurant, you have to be prepared for situations like this. It's going to happen. I was told the kitchen was small and the orders had overwhelmed them. Huh? You don't have to be Gordon Ramsay to know that if you are going to do gourmet food, you have a large kitchen and more than one chef who can handle the capacity! When we finally got our food, my fish was lukewarm at best. One other person in our party had the same dish and his fish wasn't even cooked all the way through. While the staff was obviously upset at the way things were going in the kitchen, it could have been handled much better. They offered us free desserts, which was a nice gesture. But by the time we were finished with our dinner, we had been there for almost four hours. Most of them waiting for our salads, soups and entree's. Sorry. I really wanted to like you. Took a client here for dinner. She ordered crab cake and salad. I ordered a very expensive halibut dish. It was so dry and overcome that even two lemons could not moisten it up. She said her crabcake was so greasy that she couldn't eat it. Even after bringing to the attention of the manager that we were dissatisfied there was no attempt to make it right. I finally had an excuse to visit TEN. My father in law's 85th birthday was the ticket. The service was attentive, almost to a fault. At one point I felt like the waitress and busboy were going to crash while taking our order and refilling our water at the same time. The staff was friendly and well informed. The biggest service failure was one busboy removed our plate from the wrong side. Realistically we had no complaints. This is a gourmet experience. Unlike your usual Montana steakhouse, the food was sophisticated, fresh and unusual. For example, my potato-leek-gratin was prepared with potatoes slivered and al-dente, and served in their own ramakin. Once I recovered from the initial surprise that they weren't baked to death, I fell in love with their creamy goodness. Not your typical heavy potatoes. The beef tenderloin filets were cooked exactly as ordered, with a wonderful demi-glace. The plank salmon was perfectly prepared, according to my father-in-law. The side was kale sauteed with onion. It was the best kale I've had and my wife adored it (I still don't believe kale should count as a food). Our waitress offered, "The meatballs are poetry". That might be an exaggeration, but they were savory and well seasoned. Unlike your classic Italian meatballs smothered in tomato sauce, these were dense with fresh richly flavored pasta and fresh tomatoes. The portion was large enough for my wife to get three meals. Dessert was an experience. Semifreddo is Italian for half cold. A shortbread crust, maple ice cream, and a bacon infused caramel sauce--topped with a slice of praline bacon. Yes, praline bacon. Bizarre, but oddly delightful. The quality of the presentation matched the exquisite combination of flavors. This is not the place for a standard steak with baked potato. Based on the guests we saw, from a just married bride to cowboys to oilmen, this is a comfortable, friendly and inviting restaurant. We had a great time and a great meal. read more

If you rated this place five stars, any credibility you ever had just went out the window. Is TEN terrible? No. But the value I would place on the entire experience is far less than that reflected in their prices. I've been twice and have decided they need a little time to work out the newby wrinkles before I give them another go. While I appreciate that TEN isn't another run-of-the-mill steakhouse, vegetarian options remain insufficient. It isn't enough to throw a creamy pasta dish at the bottom of the menu for the occasional pain in the ass vegetarian. Consumers are more health conscious now than ever. This is an opportunity for the kitchen to be creative and set TEN apart from its competitors. There is so much that can be done with seasonal veggies, beans/legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, etcetera. I believe that allergy-friendly options would also be big sellers. A restaurant of this caliber should use fresh beets in their beet salad. There were plenty of beets - too generous a portion, really - but they were very clearly not roasted in-house. They seemed to come from a jar. Or, maybe they were those vacuum-sealed packaged ones from Costco? Either way, that's what I expect at Salad Creations, not TEN. Service is attentive, but not polished. If I'm paying $28 for an entree, the server should not be asking me to move the salt and pepper, decorative center piece, or any other item from the middle of the table to make room for the incoming dish. Personally, I don't care to dine in a pretentious or excessively formal atmosphere. However, a bit of formal front-of-the-house training would be beneficial. So, after sharing a poor dining experience here on Yelp, we were contacted by TEN staff, who offered a complimentary dinner as an apology - and to assure us that they had remedied the problems we encountered at our first visit there. We took them up on it - and were very pleasantly surprised. We were treated like royalty. The service, food, wine and drinks were all excellent. Based upon other fine dining establishments here in Billings, I am not quite ready to give TEN 5 stars, but if I could give 4.5 I would. And when we return for another dinner, I will be happy to upgrade my rating - IF service is just as good as it was when the staff knew they needed to impress us this last time :) Kudos to the management for recognizing what needed to be changed. The food is sub par and extremely overpriced. The server was not interested in making our experience pleasant. We had a child with us, and there was not an option for children, except a burger and fries (mind you we ordered him 2 appetizers) but since he's 8 a $55.00 steak seemed a bit much, so they offered a burger as an adorable dinner option which was $17.00! He said "this meat is hard and dry" I tried it and he was right! (Smart kids. His mom is a cook, so he knows his food) we each took ONE bite of the risotto cake that came with our 1/2 thin salty bison filet and could barely swallow it..fried, dry mush. For 3 of us (2 adults and 1 child) our bill was $189.00 and our plates were barely touched. (The fries that came with the burger however were delicious!) This may be the best restaurant in Billings, if not all of Montana. I had a really great experience here and I hope to try it again soon. Not everything is perfect, but I was impressed nonetheless. For one, TEN actually makes a legitimate crab cake with actual pieces of lump blue crab! I was amazed! I have gotten so used to having terrible crab cakes outside of Maryland that I usually don't bother ordering them. But when these beauties showed up, I was glad that I did! Really delicious, and legit. Other appetizers were good as well. The charcuterie plate had some very good soppressatta and cheese, and the Walk in the Woods was interesting and tasty. My main course was the filet, which was cooked to perfection and delicious. I had a potato and cheese beer soup, which I was really looking forward to but which I ultimately found disappointing. Not enough cheese flavor, too much beer flavor in my opinion. For dessert, I had a plate with assorted chocolate concoctions. I don't remember the name of the dessert, but it was beautiful to look at. I am kind of surprised to see some of the complaints about service. My wife and I were staying at the Northern Hotel and made reservations for dinner at Ten. The food, the service, the cocktail (huge thumbs up to the bartender, all were fantastic. I started with the Sage Advice cocktail with rye whiskey. My wife had the Kansas City strip steak and it was cooked exactly as she ordered, and may have been was probably the best steak I have ever eaten in a restaurant (yes, I borrowed her entree). It was that good. I had the Montana Trout and it was a great piece of fish. The best part of our meal was our server, Chris, who provided great service without ever intruding. My wife mentioned we were celebrating our 22nd Anniversary and Chris not only provided a complimentary slice of coconut cake for our dessert (the best!) but a hand written greeting card congratulating us on our Anniversary. The Northern Hotel was great, Ten was great, and so was the other restaurant there, Bernie's Diner. P.S. We miss BIllings! read more

I hate to write these words: Such a disappointment. Unfortunately, my experience at Ten left so much of what is required for excellence somewhere else. Gorgeous restaurant, obviously expensive to operate. Walking in, looking around the space prepared me for a lovely experience. The hostess and waitress were both pleasant young women. I ordered an appetizer of chickpea cakes. Beautiful presentation, nicely browned, the cake was so dry it could be a hockey puck. The cakes rested in "basically a pesto with jalapeño" (waitress's words). I questioned her on the amount of "heat" (again her words) "medium". I enjoy Thai and Mexican dishes with heat. This pesto was ridiculously hot. Who are you cooking for?? I also had a slice of chocolate ganache cake. Again, beautiful presentation. Why would a restaurant with this reputation serve me a slice of cake that was just short of stale. Lisa, can't you do better than that? Management and chefs need to dine at Lilac, Fieldhouse and Enzo to see why you only had five guests in your establishment in an hour and a half. This review is for the bar, to include food from the full menu: I've been here three times now over the course of two months, and I have had a very pleasant experience every time. The bartenders Trevin, Rae, and Greg are all wonderful, kind, and fun to talk with (sorry if I'm butchering the spellings of your names!). They also each provided guidance and offered suggestions about the drinks and food on the very ample menu. I've had the salmon (excellently prepared and had a really delicious accompaniment), the pecan-crusted pork loin (also excellent and was a favorite), the Caesar salad I've had twice and I love that the romaine is not cut up for you but more of an event than Caesar salads usually are! I've also had the desserts: the donut thing which is crazy good, but super filling. I still ate the whole damn thing by myself. I also had the shortbread dessert that wasn't bad, but I'd not order that again. Disappointing. On one night during one of my trips, they had live, classical music, which really added to the ambience of the bar itself. Which, incidentally, is really beautiful. While sitting at the bar the restaurant is located just across from the bar seating area. The restaurant ambience is striking! It's hard to believe that one is in Billings Montana. However the staff is not at all pretentious, as one may expect from such a high-end looking environment. Lastly, the cocktail menu offers a lot of fun drinks, there's a very comprehensive wine list, and I enjoyed trying local brewery beers. Of course, I plan to come back during my visits to the Billings area and I highly recommend TEN bar or restaurant, (unless of course you're someone who just orders a bowl of Mac and cheese when you dine out). read more

Great service!! Anthony was the best. Super helpful especially given this is my first time in Montana! They are known for their beef here but I was in a pork kinda mood so I ordered the pecan pork tenderloin which was one of Anthony's recommendations. Probably the best pork tenderloin I've ever had! Served medium with pecan crusting over truffle mash. The braised red cabbage was a bit too sweet for me but otherwise the dish was perfect! The pork was very tender and not dry like many pork dishes. I held a business dinner at TEN yesterday evening, and had a truly great experience. We had 14 people in the private dining room, and everyone had a wonderful time. Louis provided excellent service and was very attentive to the needs of everyone there. Chef Lisa prepared an extraordinary meal, with a dinner special just for us. All of the food orders were well plated and delicious. As a local business owner I know that there are relatively few places in town where you can have a great fine dining experience in a private dining room. Saturday night and the restaurant was not busy, the tables were spaced with enough Covid room that patrons could be comfortable. While it is dark and rather unappealing to my tastes, the decorating nod to the old Golden Bell with dark red colors and dark lights is commendable. We chose a booth-like table in the back and were relatively comfortable.Our waitress was delightful and we learned also the pastry chef. There were 5 main entrees all ranging in price from $32-40. They were out of one beef selection leaving only 1 for the offering - strange. We had a salmon, chicken and steak, none were out of this world for the price. They were plated well and arrived without too much wait time. The Caesar salad was not worth the $10, it had 6 romaine leafs, croutons and a dressing, pepper was offered table side. The crab cakes were good, two portions and a lovely sauce. The deserts were good, cheesecake and creme brûlée, what followed was a lovely discussion with our waitress who seemed to take pleasure in our feedback. The wine list is good, the French Chardonnay by the glass was $13,not a bad price point for the quality. Beware, we paid for a $28 mixed drink. I believe it was the most expensive mixed drink on the menu. Overall, an expensive and just ok meal made better by an attentive waitress / pastry chef. For the most part, TEN is a win in my book. The huckleberry martini I had was great (although one is enough from a sweetness perspective). We also had the brussel sprouts which were very good, but also on the heavy side. I wasn't expecting that. Our service... We had an attentive waiter that gave us the happy hour pricing even though we missed the deadline. We had called ahead to ask when the HH was and whoever answered said it was 4-7. We arrive around 6:20 and were disappointed to hear it ended. I guess they recently changed their hours to 4-6 on the happy hour. As I said, they fixed it but it was slightly disappointing that we were only able to have one drink on the HH pricing. Overall, I find this to be a great restaurant and would give it another shot. My husband and I ate at Ten last night for Valentine's Day. We love the Northern Hotel as it is such a historic landmark in Billings. I really wanted to love my meal. I ordered the Surf and Turf on their fixed menu. The lobster was wonderful and cooked beautifully. Unfortunately in the land of ranches and plenty of great beef to be had, the filet was not good. It was tough around the edges, flavor was bland and it was small for the price we were paying. I can choose and cook a much better steak at home than I ate at Ten last night. My husbands Bison short ribs were ok, not great, and very fatty. We did enjoy the desserts but feel like they were made too far in advance to be fresh. We hope that they get their chairs re-stuffed too as they are beautiful yet have no support anymore. read more

Patrick, the mixologist, created for us, personalized drinks based on our vague descriptions of what we liked. Spice. Strawberry. Creamy. Smokey. Whiskey. Patrick is a true mixologist. Came here with a fairly large (7) group for dinner on a Sunday night. The interior looks great, sort of a modern take on old school American luxury. The server, while seemingly a little nervous, was very helpful and knowledgeable, not to mention good with the children in our party. I ordered their signature filet, and it was excellent. The crab butter on top didn't overpower the steak, like a béarnaise sauce can and the potato cake and garlic spinach that accompanied the steak were both delicious. Ate here twice while in Billings, using the city as a midway point on vacation from Jackson Hole to Deadwood. Can only speak to my experience, which was excellent. Wife had the pork belly, i had the fried chicken. Fried chicken was good, but the pork belly entree was fantastic. Nice balance of flavor and portions were good. Foie gras semifreddo for dessert was also very good. Second night, i had the pork belly and my wife had the trout. Troutt was cooked well and flavors again were well matched. Deconstructed strawberry shortcake was well executed. The only blemish was that our octopus appetizer was overcooked. The wine list is California heavy, but had a few good wines from outside the U.S. Reasonable price points. Beer selection is small but well rounded. Service was attentive but not overly intrusive. Met and spoke with many people who worked there. Overall, a great experience. I found the prices reasonable for the quality, especially considering where I live (NYC). I have now dined at TEN on 3 separate occasions and enjoyed every one of them. I have been fortunate enough to be with large groups of 10 - 12 each time. This has given us the chance to experience the majority of the menu from appetizers thru the delicious sweets at the end. We were with middle school aged and Middle Aged guests and all enjoyed our time there. First the atmosphere; I love the attention to detail in the wall textures, interesting cutlery and dining cloths on the table. I enjoy the sounds of a great restaurant with conversations, laughter and seeing people truly enjoying themselves. Appetizers were interesting, creative and above all delicious. The meat and cheese plate was fantastic. Salads and soups like a Curry puree get you anticipating the mains. Entrees truly were fabulous from the cowboy chop to the duck. This is not a classic steakhouse but they can sure fix a great cut of meat and serve it with a creative and innovative set of sides. Desserts that make your mouth water like pralined bacon strips with custard and chocolate cake are just the beginning of a great end to a superb meal. With large groups we have ordered all of the appetizers, most of the salads many if the entrees. ( some twice). And most of the desserts three times. We have not been disappointed. TEN I wanted to love you. The idea of you is awesome. Unfortunately TEN comes off as just another montana steak and potato place that is attempting to be fancy so they can up charge you. The first visit they were out of chorizo for the paella, my steak was over cooked and the waitress was short on patience. Valentines dinner...no regular menu, just a "special" ...$80 for 4 course meal for 2. Didn't sound too bad, but here's what we got. The Fondue appetizer was a small bowl of yummy cheese fondue accompanied by 2 thin slices of apple, 2 pieces of broccoli, 2 pieces of cauliflower, and 2 very hard slivers of baguette. Our salad was a tiny pile of arugula lettuce coated in oil and topped with one pear slice. At this point we are thinking of their huge profit margin, as our starters were nothing fancy and cost about $0.50 to throw together! Then comes the real punch...we get to SHARE one Cornish game hen on a plate set between us. So here we are on a special night acting like 2 coyotes over the carcass of a tiny 3oz bird, trying to get one more morsel off of it! At this point we are still starving and the service has been mediocre at best. Twenty minutes after our "feast" the dessert arrives and leaves us with a pleasant taste...really...5 yummy bits of chocolate (2 were covered strawberries, yum!). We should have shared a drink as well, because a crummy glass of house white wine and a shot of whiskey on the rocks cost us $16. We won't be back. I give the TEN restaurant a TWO. read more

What a wonderful find in downtown Billings. We enjoyed a elegant evening dining with the gentle sounds of a solo country guitar singer from the bar half of the restaurant. Our waitress was very attentive and helped assure we had everything we needed. They started us out with a chef's appetizer of humus and bread. One of my friends had the rib eye steak, it looked as good as it tasted and was huge. I enjoyed the roasted Beet Carpaccio and the pecan crusted pork chop. It was cooked to perfection and I savored the pecan crust. Too bad it is in Billings and not Los Angeles! read more

My wife and I went there for steaks ribeyes to be specific we sat down ordered our wine and our appetizers and when it came time to order we were told they did not have any ribeyes even though it was on the menu if we were told this before we started eating and drinking we would of left but unfortunately no one let us know so we were stuck with the only option of steak on the menu when it came to steak it was NY strip and unfortunately it had a lot of connective tissue in it but I guess that was to be expected when they live in the great state of Montana and do not source locally they instead source there meet from Colorado why? Why? The Brussels sprouts were over cooked and undercooked at the same time hard to do but I guess that's what happens when the executive chef has the day off. As for the service it was horrible if you don't mind ordering from the bar while your waitress is running room service then this is the place to go, the bill was $260 which is fine if the food was at least decent but I felt like I was eating at a Denny's not a 4 star hotel. Oh I forgot to mention we ordered a side of shrimp with the steak crazy small shrimp I mention this so the next person does not make the same mistake and order them as well Do not go here not good. read more

WORST. SERVICE. EVER. tl;dr: good food, horrible service, go next door to Walkers instead. Last night 3 friends and I went to TEN for dinner. No reservations, but the restaurant was not very busy so easy to get seated. The gent who seated us immediately vanished and we sat for ~5 minutes before our actual server appeared and took a drink order. 30 minutes later, we got our drinks, while only even seeing our server once that whole time. We got food orders in pretty quickly after that...and then we sat...and sat...and sat some more. Over an hour passed between ordering food and the first of us getting a meal (during which time we had to track down the server for drink refills as our empty glasses had been sitting on the table for 15 minutes with no sign of him). When the food finally did come, two plates came together, my meal was third (elk medallions - they were very tasty), 5 minutes after the first two...and the fourth plate 10 minutes later! And that filet was COLD. I should note that the restaurant was never full (at least 5-6 open tables) the entire 2.5 hours we were there and they appeared to have enough staff on hand, so it wasn't like they were overwhelmed. My friends had all been there at least once previously and they assure me that this was very atypical service level for TEN, so I may give them another shot eventually (the food was good), but for now, my review is: if you're considering TEN, go next door to Walker's. read more
