My friend and i went 2x while in town for a competition. Never been before. Service was good. Drinks/beers and options diverse. I liked the atmosphere in the bar. We were impressed with the steaks, but other options feel like they are being phoned in for sure. Got the bacon cheeseburger and fries and the shoestring style fries were limp and had no salt on them. They were hot, so this is just how they serve them. Burger was ok but bun wasn't toasted and the burger patty while not necessarily dry was definitely not juicy either. Another night we got the chicken fajitas. Not a large portion and was disappointed a bit as soon as they set the plate down...especially on the chicken. Vegetables were all raw and if i hadn't forked them around for awhile on the sizzling platter i would have had a combination of totally charred and totally raw veggies. None of it was seasoned. Tortillas were right off-the-shelf probably from Walmart and slightly warmed up. No sides came with it. Steaks were quite good though. Cooked broccoli was good. Garlic mashed potatoes were good but a little gummy because they use red potatoes. So...if you want a good $50-60 steak meal it's a great place to go. But if you or anyone in your party isn't feeling like a steak you'll get way better food for less at the chain places. read more

We wanted the King crab legs that were listed on the menu, online. We arrived and no crab legs what a disappointment. We had to wait on our food for over an hour and needless to say when it finally did come it wasn't very good. My husband's steak was mostly fat and my pork chop was just okay. The atmosphere was high end the menu was diverse. Everyone was very friendly. I had a French dip with garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious. You could tell it was all made from Whole Foods cooked in-house There was bison and elk on the menu but I didn't order any of that. It was my first time there. First timers, (outta town traveling through) Found this place and was very impressed. We didn't have any specialities but we sat in the bar area and our service was EXCELLENT! Our waitress was very attentive, full of energy and always kept an eye on us. We split 3 apps: Wings - great tasting and had a nice crunch to the texture as compared to the fatty, slimy type. Calamari- great flavor on the long strips. Cooked perfectly! Seared Ahi Tuna - seared perfectly although not best I've ever had (being a Sushi snob) excellent taste and dipping sauces. Disappointing. Our waitress told us twice what the specials were. Seemed she did not remember the first time, or our drinks. Restaurant was half full. So not overly busy. My steak needed seasoning. Shrimp cocktail was odd. One shrimp was almost mushy, others hard body but none had any flavor. Not the best experience. I'd give this a pass. read more

Needed dinner after a long day of traveling, and Jake's did a good job! Lots of comfort-style food choices in a very comfortable setting, and in easy walking distance from the Marriott Courtyard. Driving across the northern states and we wanted a good Montana steak. Found Jake's through yelp and the desk attendant at the hotel said that many guests rave about it. I want to touch on two things. The yelp description and the food. The food was delicious. If you want to spend $35-60 on a steak I recommend this place! The bar menu is a little more similar to the cost description on yelp, the main dinner menu is more costly. My husband and I both had the 8oz sirloin, which was cooked perfectly, came with a salad and a side option. I had a loaded baked potato and he had the garlic mashed potato. We enjoyed our meals. My complaint, if you will, is about the yelp description. I They are not very kid friendly, which is what we look at when deciding where to eat based on yelp. There is no kids menu- our two split a chicken tender meal from the bar menu. However, they enjoyed their food, but I would not call this kid friendly. read more

My boyfriend has been talking about this place since he drove through Billings back in summer of 2018, and has constantly said it's the best steak he's ever had. Every steakhouse we go he says, "Well it's good, but not as good as the steak in Billings, Montana". Well, his word sure lived up to the hype. Waiter didn't bring drink got excuse he "didn't" know had to get big rock himself to take to the bar for drink. Food arrived before drink did asked for lemons to go with water never got it. I previously wrote this review but do not see it, so to insure its posted, I'm writing it again. Last night my friend who's from Billings decided to go to Jake's West End for dinner. He's eaten here many times however this was my first visit here. Upon arrival we noticed there were not many people dining however we were seated at a table for 4, instead of a table for 2. We placed our cocktail order. Our waiter delivered our cocktail & immediately left our table. Upon return, I had to ASK for a napkin for our cocktail. We placed our orders and after eating 2 bites of my steak that was over cooked, 2 bites of my baked potato and later 1 bite of my dessert, I became extremely sick. I was hot, sweating and nauseous. My friend complimented the waiter on how good his food was and I immediately threw up at the table because I couldn't make it to the restroom. A woman came to our table & I concluded she was the manager and asked IF WE HAD TAKEN CARE OF OUR CHECK AS IF WE WERE TRYING TO GET A FREE MEAL. I couldn't address her unprofessional behavior because I was so sick. She asked if I were allergic to anything but because I was so sick, I could only respond by shaking my head to say no. She asked if I'd like some ice and provided a bag for me. Upon leaving the restaurant I made it to the restroom & threw up again. By the time we arrived home, my friend stomach was so upset, he was in the restroom moaning & groaning for an hour, and I threw up again. Thank God his condo has 2 bathrooms. During my 1 month visit this time, I've dined at many restaurants but the service and food at Jake's West End was THE WORST. I WILL NEVER DINE AT OR RECOMMEND THIS ESTABLISHMENT TO ANYONE. My wife and I grew up and Billings and raised our family there. We have moved several times over the past ten years and came back in July to visit family. We decided on Jake's Bar & Grill on the west end for a special night with family, in spite of the fact that it was rather expensive. Big mistake! The service started well. The salad was good and then the steaks arrived. Maybe I'm old and out of touch, but I think there should be certain expectations when you buy a $50 steak. They were edible but NOT great. They were cooked well but rather tough. I complained to the waitress and she told her manager. He came to our table and, with no apology, took my steak and baked potato back to the kitchen. He said I would get my replacement in 10 to 12 minutes. A half hour later, after everyone else was finished eating, my steak arrived. It was better but still not better than much cheaper steaks that I have had in my life. I was done complaining until I tried the baked potato. HE BROUGHT ME BACK THE SAME BAKED POTATO HE HAD TAKEN FROM ME A HALF HOUR BEFORE BUT DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO HEAT IT UP AND PUT MORE BUTTER AND SOUR CREAM ON IT1 I was angry and told him so. I travel a lot for work so I'm privileged to go to some nice restaurants. I've been here before but wow has the service went down hill. I sat at the bar, had an old fashioned...well, it was kind of an old fashioned...would not recommend. I would like to say I tried the food but the bartender never came back to ask how my drink was, if I wanted another, to refill my water or even offer a menu. I finally flagged down another bartender...when they weren't busy talking to one another to close out my tab which of course I left no tip as the service was terrible.
