Omg my medium rare steak was .... Medium rare! Amen!!! That's all I wanted and I got it.

Jake's atmosphere is great, very nice dark wood, sculpted ceiling, classy bar. We were looking for a great Montana steak but things went South as the evening progressed. Our waiter was young but seemed to have trouble understanding the orders, ok no big deal. Then he had to clarify my drink request, again no big deal. Salads and soup came out, my onion soup was very good. A major disappointment was "we are out of baked potatoes " which seems odd since one of the potato options is made with baked potatoes?? After some time our entrees came out. My ribeye was actually cold but the mashed potatoes were hot so obviously the steak sat waiting on other entrees, we only had 4. I told the waiter to tell the chef and he said he would, not would you like me to take it back? Another entree was the chicken dish which was requested to have sauce on the side, his response was "I wrote it down", again not "would you like me to have it fixed " I guess if you go push your server to make it right. read more

Started off a little concerning when I was asked "Can I help you?" While waiting at the hostess's stand. Felt as if I was not wanted to eat here. I let it go, thinking that maybe I was overthinking the interaction. My server name was Allison (Ally). She more than made up for the earlier interaction. Very attentive and was a pleasant individual. I ordered the Salmon with brussel sprouts. Both came out perfect without having to wait too long. Went to Jake's for a date night with some friends. Make a reservation because they are always busy! Our server was prompt and extremely knowledgeable about the menu as well as the specials. Our drinks were perfect and we were never thirsty. We ordered the cacio e pepe, braised pork shank, elk medallions and New York steak. Every thing was perfectly prepared and absolutely amazing. Service was good. Food was a big letdown. Prime rib was $8.00 over the price listed on the menu. Asked for medium ~ got rare. Too much salt. Disappointed that the baked potato came topped with a melted gelatinous cheddar cheese,not asked for. Nice slices of parmesan on a salad sold as their Caesar. No resemblance to a Caesar salad. The dessert was the only part of the meal that we enjoyed. I'm not happy to leave this review for a restaurant that has been predictably good in past dining experiences. read more

I admit the picture isn't pretty ... after a long travel day I couldn't wait to dig in and forgot to take a picture before! But trust me it was very good! I also got it with the house salad and I got the chocolate cake as well, I forgot to take pictures. I was in Billings for business and was having a hard time finding a place that looked good - I landed on Jake's Downtown. I placed a to-go order and it was ready for pickup quickly and still warm! Also FYI, the kitchen is open until 10 in the summer, it still says 9 online. The bar and regular dining area are both very nice and the staff is very kind too. I am visiting & I went into this place there was no bartender & no host. I finally found a server after waiting a long time & asked where everyone was. She had the nastiest attitude & huffed & puffed decided to take my order & I told her I wanted a drink she asked for my ID & I handed it to her & I held my hand out for her to put it back in my hand. Once she got done reading it, instead of handing it back to me she threw it on the table & slid it. This place is an Iconic Steak House in the Downtown Billings area. Old School charm with lots of dark wood and etched glass between dining rooms. Service was very practiced perfect. But not stiff. Had dinner there with my wife's cousins this place is magnificent. Their cocktail and wine menu is awesome. The menu had quite the variety If you're passing through Billings and you want a good steak,this is the place to go and the atmosphere is awesome. This place has a lot of nostalgia. The weight staff very friendly and helpful. They also have lots of patience with visitors like myself and wife. They can accommodate large parties. There was a table of 20 next to us. Came here to have a good steak and we were not disappointed. We were recommended to come from a few people and also a coworker. We came right from work so we were in scrubs and felt a little under dressed. It was nicer than we thought it was going to be. Would be a great place to take a date or a special dinner (birthday/anniversary). Our waitress was very nice but you could tell it had been a long day. Coworkers food came out tighter and mine took about 15 mins longer. I think they forgot about me. Mine should have taken the least as it was the special for the day and also I got mine cooked medium rare. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet with chimichurri and garlic mashed potatoes. It was like cutting through butter, so tender. I was able to cut it with a butter knife the next day for left overs. One coworker also got the filet with a sweet potato cake (thing). Hers came out just a little overcooked. She did ask for it medium rare and it came out a little more on the medium well side. There was not much pink in hers, but she said it still tasted really good. All the steaks were perfectly seasoned and not overwhelming. my other coworker got the tacos. I was stuck in Billings looking for a decent old fashioned and a cool place to hang out. I was staying near the other Jake's, but I wanted that downtown vibe. Cool place it was pretty busy in the bar, but I did find a spot in the corner. The old fashioned was decent. They did have a pretty good bourbon selection. I had a steak the night before so I went with the French dip sandwich. It was pretty good, but I probably should have gone with the steak. The vibe in the place was an old wood with some neon. All the negative reviews are completely accurate. We wish we would have read those before wasting $200 and ruining our appetite. Worst food and worst experience ever. Avoid this restaurant at all costs. They have no idea how to properly cook and season food, especially steaks. We ordered 4 different dinner entrees and everything was either vastly underdone or vastly overdone, and the flavor was horrible. The food quality is extremely poor, but the customer service is even worse. When we kindly told them about the errors with our meals, they never offered any kind of resolution whatsoever and lied repeatedly, saying they don't have a manager. Then, after repeated phone calls and messages over the course of 2.5 weeks, we finally got a hold of the manager, Emily. She was extremely hostile and rude from the moment she picked up the phone. She seemed like she hates life, hates her job, and is on a power trip to share her misery with everyone around her. She never even apologized for the errors and refused to do anything to make it right. Her whole attitude was arrogant and condescending. She didn't say one kind remark whatsoever and wouldn't even listen to us, she was just snippy and disrespectful the entire time. When we tried to tell her about the issues with our meals, she only kept repeating the classic narcissist phrase, "I'm sorry you feel that way." Then she proceeded to tell us that she doesn't care if her customers are pleased or not and that's how they make their food, take it or leave it. When we asked to talk to Kathy, the owner, Emily said that Kathy doesn't talk to customers and that Emily is in charge of everything. Emily flaunted her superiority and belittled anything we said. She showed an exaggerated sense of self-importance, believing she is better or more important than anyone else, especially customers. Kathy's decision to place someone as incompetent as Emily in a role as the face of her business, displays the misguided values of her restaurant. Emily's behavior is atrocious and unconscionable as a restaurant manager. She took an already bad experience and made it exponentially worse. Her mismanagement of the food, staff, and entire experience is why Jake's continues to go down the tubes. Emily is a dangerous liability for a restaurant owner and they have lost our business. Heed the warnings from many customers and save yourself the lost appetite, bad experience, and wasted money. There are many other restaurants in Billings that actually serve delicious, skillfully prepared food, and who care about their customers and value their business! read more

What an absolute TREAT I just had here with my guys. 10 out of 10 experience. The bourbon BBQ wings were unreal, and I can truthfully say one of the best ribeyes I've ever had in my life. Jake's was the first place I stopped in Billings, Montana and I was very lucky to have found it by chance. To start off, the restaurant is like stepping back in time. The architecture and decor is very classy and antique. It feels very calm, and has great taste in music. The restrooms were exceptionally clean, although be warned, the ones I went to were not handicap accessible. (although they may have others) The food was amazing and well portioned, I highly recommend their coconut shrimp as it has exceptional taste and a good crisp texture. They don't traditionally have sweet tea, but the staff was nice enough to bring some simple syrup out with the unsweetened tea and it made for a good southern style tea! They were very helpful with that. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful, and carried on lighthearted conversation which both educated us and gave us advice for the rest of our road-trip. She was even nice enough to give us a few suggestions on what to visit and wrote it on our receipt without us having to ask. Absolutely amazing service! Nice atmosphere, and great waiter. Three of us ate there together on a business trip. All three of us ate the same selection: Elk Medallions over Garlic Mashed Potatoes, with a side salad. The food tasted great. No complaints about anything... well, until 2:30am that night. I woke at 2:30am and felt like I needed to vomit. My stomach hurt, and I raced to my bathroom to sit on the floor. The vomit never came, but it sure felt like it was going to. The next morning, I asked the other two guys if they slept good. Both shook their heads. One said he woke up sometime around 2am and felt like he needed to vomit. The other said he woke up around 2am and had a bad stomach ache. I guess it's possible that it wasn't from the restaurant, but I suspect all three of us got a case of food poisoning. Hence, three stars instead of 5. read more

The food was delicious. The experience was flawless. This is fine dining without the feeling that you're talking too loud. I loved every minute of my anniversary celebration here. They went the extra mile to make it special with a complimentary glass of champagne and a congratulations with dessert. I took 8 people here for lunch while in town for business. Surprisingly, we had to wait 10 minutes for a table at lunch hour. A bit ridiculous...... I ordered the Cowboy burger medium well. An important note I thought about after posting: the women's bathroom is down a flight of stairs that could be slick for some. Whew, as I write this I'm as full as a tick and twice as happy. This was The Meal of the honeymoon. Sadly, the servers name escapes me. She is highlighted blonde wearing bronze dangle earrings, recently married. She was available without being intrusive and professionally invested in her tables. Hope she makes all the cash tips. Husband and I had the prime rib, bestie had the shrimp tacos. Please love yourself and get the shrimp wontons: they are everything you want crab ragoon to be. Trust me. Mix the mustard and the sweet/sour sauce together...you're welcome. Our food was great and our waitress Kirsten was great. We had a fun lunch in Billings and the staff was the best.

In our opinion this is the only fine dining option that needs to be had in Billings. Jake is the epitome of classic steakhouse, everything from the decor, low light, servers disposition. It transports you into the mindset of refined American culinary tradition in a simpler time. Classic is the through line here, there is no need to involve novel methods and exotic ingredients when they have perfected the craft of solid cuts, simple cuts, and an intimate atmosphere. I got the buffalo bites over garlic mash potatoes and it was phenomenal, tender, gamey and well seasoned, with creamy potatoes to compliment. The mrs got the salmon with a berry drizzle, mash, and a salad. With one taste she understood why Montana Salmon is second to none. Unfortunately I have forgotten our servers name but he was as fun as he was knowledgable. He did a great job setting the tone for our dinner, guided us through the menu and wine list, and though we didn't grab any (too full) did a great job selling the desserts.
