I came to this restaurant specifically for the bone marrow, but unfortunately another customer had just ordered the last one. What are the odds? It was literally only me and one other person in the restaurant -- it almost felt like a ghost restaurant with how quiet it was. Sadly, the soup I ordered was a bit too salty for my taste, but I did enjoy the medium-rare steak salad and finished the meal with a poached pear ice cream dessert. What a fantastic evening and thank you everyone at Montana Sky for everything. Emmy, Camron, and especially my amazing server Loreena - you are the best. I was nursing a hangover from last night's wedding party, and needed to decompress from all the frivolity. Views on the 20th floor, over a homemade bowl of potato leek soup, and a late night cup of coffee with some cheesecake was exactly what I needed. It's a calm, serene space. The menu is thoughtful and well executed. Above what you would generally consider hotel faire. I've travelled a lot for work in my life, so am accustomed to picking the same uninspired generic offerings. It was just different here. For breakfast or dinner, I've been inspired to stay in. I ate not at MT sky but at the montanas lounge downstairs. There isn't a yelp listing for this establishment but I felt compelled to post that it was delicious! Happy hour I got 2 IPAs and a delish burger for $24 plus the hotel gave me 2 food coupons $10 each. $4 dinner plus tip is pretty unbeatable!! My burger and fries were delicious. Waitress/bartender was lovely and sociable. I won't be back as I am here for work but if I ever find myself in Billings, I'll stay here again and dine for sure! read more

Another business meal. Bison strip - au poivre- scallop potatoes. Excellent! The had an "aged" piece of cake that they originally said they were out of, should have stayed "out". Couldn't have driven nails with it, but close.... Cocktails were meager, like small, small.... Up your game on this. Service - fantastic server. Top notch. Ambiance - 20th floor of the hotel - so nice views depending on where you are sitting - not too loud, not too bright. Great atmosphere for a date or business meal. 4 stars based on the prep of my bison steak and everyone else's satisfaction with their meal - the steak salad probably fell short a bit, but everyone else's steaks were great. I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews. I dined here for breakfast for three days and the service was good , views are OUTSTANDING (20th floor) and the food was pretty good! I stay at Hilton hotels 50 nights per year and I like the Doubletree brand b/c it's a bit "old school." The restaurants usually have order off the menu vs. standard buffet. I prefer to order off the menu. This was one of the best breakfast menus of any Doubletree I've ever seen. I ordered the omelette one day and eggs benedict the second and third. The eggs benny are really, really good. And again, you can't beat the views from the 20th floor of downtown Billings on a beautiful day. I look forward to visiting again. read more

Spent a night here as we were heading to Banff. Tired from driving, we decided to stay in and have dinner here. View was alright, smoke from the fire was covering most of the sky. I can say, it's one of the worse restaurants I've been to at a Hilton chain. And I don't know why I ordered the Seared Tuna salad, worse thing ever and I got sick. My boyfriend stayed with the good 'ol chicken sandwich. Quality of food was abysmal and never again for us. Service was alright, nothing worth mentioning. I think we should've stayed downstairs at the bar. It was more happening there and they have small plates. read more

We ordered a salad and roasted brussel sprouts. The restaurant was NOT packed. After 1 hour of waiting, we decided to leave without receiving our food. None of the servers kept us updated or apologized for the delay. In the hour that we were there, we saw 3 other groups walk out, frustrated, without their food. read more

First of all our server was great. From there it goes down hill. They advertise a panoramic view. Well, you do get a view of Coal being transported on the rail. Their menu is rather limited, but they did have trout which I do not normally order. Our server gave me a rundown on trout and I decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to taste the trout as they had run out and substituted salmon. But they had not told me the trout was not available. The cut of salmon was extremely average. I get better fillets of salmon from our local grocery store in St. Paul. We went for a walk following the meal and found a number of places we should've tried rather than just eating at the hotel. Not a recommended establishment. I've visited here on two occasions and cannot understand how they keep the doors open. No one frequents this place, unfortunately. I had a burger on a Wednesday night at about 6p and the dining room had two patrons sitting at a table....beyond them....no one! This restaurant is inside of the Doubletree Hotel, so I picked my meal up to eat in my room. The taste was okay, but by the time I went from the 20th floor to my room on the 12th floor, I opened my clamshell container to find a soggy bottomed burger. My gosh, it was dripping wet with grease and while it tasted fine, it was a greasy mess. The fries...are okay too. I do wish that the ketchup was in a more appropriate mini-bottle as I see at other hotels rather than the silly little packets they had from Sysco. I honestly think they don't advertise their own restaurant at all. There was no menu in the room, no tent card in the room, no signage in the elevators, or lobby that advertised their own restaurant! Crazy! If you're going to staff a barren restaurant that does not advertise...just lock the doors and hand your employees a paycheck...you can save yourself the electricity! read more

Star of this show was the Beet Salad. Golden beets nestled in fresh spring green with a light and flavorful vinaigrette generous portions of beets but the salad portion was similar to a small dinner salad, servings were not proportional to each other and for a salad entree definitely on the small side. Wings are generous in flavor and size. Picked up my order so I can't really comment on service but the gal who cashed out my ticket was cheerful. Dining tip. Find silverware elsewhere. This may be the most underwhelming meal I have ever had. Read the recent reviews and look at the pictures and make the correct decision and go eat somewhere else. Within walking distance of this place are a handful of great restaurants. Go to Jake's or the Burger Dive, they are literally across the street from this place. When we arrived, there were a total of four guests in the entire restaurant, which should have been a clue. But, we stayed hoping to have a great meal and being able to enjoy the amazing view. Needless to say, the meal was trash. The $38 dollar fillet was overcooked and not seasoned at all. The French dip tasted like it was made with three day old, dried out roast beef and was way too salty. The sides we received were cold and unseasoned. There was no love or excitement put into the food. The only happiness I felt after this meal was the relief that I didn't get food poisoning. read more

Can't beat the view and the staff was delightful. The chef prepared the food well, however the rib eye was inferior to what one would expect for a $42 steak. It was thin, tough and had no flavor. The New York was much better, thick, tender, cooked to a perfect medium-rare with a peppercorn sauce. With all the steak houses in Billings, they are going to have do a little better on the quality of their beef. The cocktails were good, a bit pricey and served in the smallest glasses I've ever seen. The caesar salad was delicious and the dinner sides were tasty and complemented the meal nicely. Note to owner: Please have your buyer, buy better meat for the chef. The stars are for the view. I stay in this hotel but usually avoid the restaurant. I had a very dry turkey sandwich, seriously anyone could make one better. The hotel and restaurant are dated and could really use a facelift. Billings has many nice restaurants nearby I would only eat here if you are staying in the hotel and are out of other options. read more

Things started off odd at dinner tonight.... My wife & I were given 2 different menus. They both had same items, but different descriptions. The ribeye on mine said 12 ounces, hers didn't list the weight. So we each got our own steak thinking they were 10 or 12 oz. When delivered my ribeye was huge and closer to 20 oz, though I'm not complaining for it being on the bigger size. If we had known we would have split the one. The food tasted great. We like the herb butter served with the French bread. The broccoli soup was well seasoned and tasted house made. The steaks were both good and cooked to temp ordered. The prices were good, but if you wanted a fully loaded baked potato it was $3 more, or for a potato with butter came with your meal. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. read more

My husband and I had dinner here while staying at the Double Tree. Our food was AMAZING! It definitely hit the spot. We had a long day riding the motorcycle from Denver to Billings. We were exhausted and hungry! We ordered take out and bought their burger and fries and wings with buffalo sauce. Our burgers were cooked perfectly! And the buns were toasted good! We like when the buns are toasted well because then they don't get soggy. The beed was juicy and seasoned well. And the pickles!! We're not pickle fans but we don't mind them on burgers. But these pickles were DELICIOUS! They had some type of seasoning that just made them extra good! We enjoyed the wings as well! The wings were nice and crispy and the buffalo sauce was really good. After a very long day of travel and being kicked out of another establishment because I had a service dog with me, my mother and I went to the restaurant in our hotel - the Montana Sky - and were thrilled with our experience from start to finish. We had nearly the entire place to ourselves and it was very quiet and peaceful, with a gorgeous view of the skyline of the city. Our server, a student of mechanical engineering, was prompt, friendly, chatted with us a little bit and helped us to have the best experience that we could have hoped for. Our family loves going here on special occasions as there are so few restaurants in Billings that are worth going to. The food is good. Not great, but good. Solid. I eat out so often due to work that I try to stick to the basics when I'm home. Most restaurants in Billings have trouble cooking a steak!! Even though there are many items on this menu that are $20+, I go to the sandwich menu and order the Turkey Reuben with their homemade chips. This particular simple sandwich is fantastic tasting and I'll stick to it whenever we go back (probably three times per year). I realize people searching this restaurant are more interested in their fancier offerings and I can tell you that my wife is a very picky eater, and would never order a sandwich for dinner, and has never complained about the food. There are various views of the city depending on where you're seated. Try to get a Western Window seat as the view is so much better than the southern view. Nobody in town eats at this place so I'm pretty sure you'll never need a reservation. We arrive around 5pm (when they open) and leave around 6:15 or so. I've never seen more than three other tables filled. They also have a children's menu and kiddos give it a big thumbs up. The service is pretty darn good but remember, nobody really goes here so the wait staff isn't really challenged. Decent Wine selection at reasonable prices. Kids meals all around $7 / Sandwich menu all around $9 / Dinner menu all around $20. read more

If all you have to do is bad mouth Billings and Montana go home and stay in Cali! Because truth is most of us don't want to see you here anyway! There is not enough money in the world to make me live anywhere in the state of California, I have visited it lots and find nothing to love about it at all! It really irritates me when you people show up here and all you can do is bad mouth Montana....yes remember you ARE in MONTANA and not in California and all of us Montana's like it a lot better here without all of you especially those of you that think yourself and your state superior! I had to stay at the Crown Plaza last night and had dinner here, as Jake's was closed across the street. Very nice quiet room with 5-star view overlooking Billings. Service was v. good. I had good Caesar salad tho it was a bit over-dressed and a little soggy; the Filet was cooked perfectly to medium with good flavor and reduction tho they topped it with a bit of Gorgonzola that overpowered the subtle flavor of the beef. Overall the food was ~3 - 4stars. Considering the convenience and view I'd say it was a decent value @ ~$50 for a drink, salad, 8-oz Filet w/ veggies, glass of decent Pinot. read more

Which in this restaurant happens to be extremely close. And it was so quiet that it became awkward having conversation with the other person just sitting there. I'm sure it's different if it gets busy in there but it was very odd. The salmon was dry and covered in a very tart dressing. Went here for dinner before school dance, waited almost two hours for very mediocre food. I don't think it takes two hours to put lettuce on a plate. Not worth 18% gratuity. My husband and I decided to try this out for our anniversary. The view is great- it was a Tuesday night and super slow...just ourselves and one other gentleman across the room so we had our pick of window seats. We decided to share a plate so we didn't end up with too much food, so we ordered two small Caesar salads and asked to share the bacon-wrapped pork medallions. The salad was very good, and they also serve you bread with a whipped herb butter. Our shared plate was served on two separate plates and they gave each plate a full serving of mashed potatoes and vegetables. Even with the split plate, we took home left overs. We personally had a very nice experience with good food and attentive service. We had plenty of food with two small salads, the bread and sharing a meal. All in all it cost us thirty dollars which we felt was more then reasonable for the food quality, service and awesome view. We'll be back. :) read more

Bad service, overpriced food, great view! I visited Montana Sky last week during a work trip. Was tired from a long day of walking around the city, so didn't want to venture too far for dinner. When I get to the restaurant, not a server or hostess was in sight. I stood waiting next to the hostess table for 10 minutes. Finally someone emerges from the backroom and seats me at a table next to the window. She disappears again for 15 more minutes. The place was virtually empty, so I can't imagine what is taking her time away. She finally comes back for my drink order. Then gone again for at least 10 minutes. She comes back to the table behind me and asks the woman if she would like more bread. Then she comes to my table for my food order. I keep thinking "oh, she must be bringing my bread now." Nope--it never came. My poor bread plate remained empty throughout my meal. The house salad was depressing. The poutine appetizer I had for my entree was salty and bland. The pumpkin cobbler was boring and the ice cream old. I swear, for everything during the course of the meal I had to wait and wait and wait. I get it if you're busy. But when you have a total of 5 tables filled in the entire place, you have no excuse. I get it. Billings is not a foodie destination. If you're going to do basic food, DO IT WELL. If you can't, at least make your service superior. If you can't provide good service, you're sunk. The view from the 20th floor will only take you so far. read more

Stayed at the hotel and tried this place for breakfast. Half the party did the breakfast buffet which had a large sampling of many different menu items. As a fine dining restaurant with a skyline view... bleh. They got the atmosphere right, and I suppose it's not the restaurant's fault that Billings features a set of train track and some sort of heavy equipment that I'm guessing is relating to mining or oil processing. The view of the "Montana Sky" was nice; it's the view of Billings below that wasn't so great. The food was decent, but I did not expect my Tuscan Chicken to be deep fried. The rice pilaf was very dry also. Vegetables were good, if sparse (must remember I'm in Montana.) The glass of Reisling wine they served was either the worst reisling ever bottled or some chardonnay they thought they could pass off on a young looking traverler. Either way, it was not good and I did not finish it. There was also some sediment in the glass. The waitress explained bok choy to me (I guess they don't have that in Montana), but I'm from So Cal and probably eat as much bok choy in a year as their restaurant serves. All in all, it was decent. I might go back when work is paying. It's worth the convenience of not leaving the hotel. I wouldn't go back on my own money though. All in all, if I end up in Billings again, I'll probably just head over to one of the nearby restaurants where I won't be expecting a fine dining experience. read more
