However, after moving away from the bar and out of earshot of the bartender we had a bad experience with one of the servers. She was rude and clearly did not want to deal with us. We have ordered Steak Strips from the Red Door for years and have had good luck. The last two times have been very disappointing. The steak has been very dry and over cooked. We figured they must have had a new cook so we would give them a second chance. Last night was the worst meal we have ever had from The Red Door. The steak strips were tough and so over cooked they were impossible to eat. The same with the onion rings so over cooked that the breading broke off before we could take a bite. The food was terrible. My wife ordered a chef salad. Wilted lettuce, ham was the only meat, 1/4 slice of a not so ripe tomatoe, and shredded Swiss cheese. I ordered the chicken wings with a side of potatoes tots. The wings were suppose to be Honey BBQ. They were plain wings with a liquid sauce of the top and the wings tasted like they were cooked that morning. Not freshly cooked at all. As far as the tots go I don't know how they would've tasted since I didn't get them. We got this order to go so it was to late once we saw how bad it was. Very cliquey staff, girl named Sydney had a disgusting attitude like she was hot stuff and acted like she was better than everyone and was practically chewing her gum in my face. 2 women out for a beer & apps about 5:30 Fri. night. Amber was our server & she could not have been better even tho she had several larger groups in the lounge area. A+++ for her service!! Beer came cold & the boneless chicken came hot with sauces on the side. Just what we needed. Lounge was typically noisy, but not overwhelming. Screens were available for sports fans. This place is always open, and the kitchen is typically open. Blue Collar crowd with a touch of the city. In the evenings over the weekend they will have karaoke which can be fun at times or horrific, depending on your taste. I do enjoy the food and location. I would add a pool table, shuffle board, dart board, and so to continue the gaming and Montana feel of the bar. All in all, I go there all the time and will continue to do so, but it is not the best of anything, just consistently pleasant. My recent visit to the Red Door with a good friend of mine was a very nice experience. This is more tavern than restaurant but the food, while basic tavern food, is delicious. We enjoyed iced cold tap beer while sitting out on their patio. Our server was "Johnnie-on-the-spot" and very polite and friendly. Sort of a surprise to me as I was expecting a surly curmudgeon. We dined on two appetizer plates which was enough to fill us both up. The cheese sticks were as good as most. Soft, chewy. The breaded steak bites are my favorite. A little tough, but very tasty dipped in their homemade ranch dressing. The only thing I didn't care for were the chicken wings. I liked that they weren't breaded, but the sauce was a little overwhelming and the wings they used were frozen (black bones, dead giveaway). I did not venture inside and did not use the bathrooms. I used to hate this place back when they allowed smoking inside. You simply couldn't breathe. The patio is nice this time of year but is located on the south side of the building so it will be sweltering come summer. read more

Not only do they serve the best beer in Montana in a can (the brewer doesn't keg it outside their Missoula brewery), Kettlehouse Brewering Cold Smoke Scotch Ale but they have solid bar food as well. I slip down here every now and then for a business lunch or to get some work done over a beer with their free wi-fi and close location to my house. The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing however our meal was not good. My wife and I ordered shrimp wontons that weren't too bad but we also ordered fish and chips and my wife's had a side salad. The fish was overcooked and very greasy. The fries were just as bad. My wife's salad was warm and wilted. My dad's meal was ok but I have to be honest in saying that I don't know if I'll ever eat here again even though we like the atmosphere and beverages. read more

My friends and family have always enjoyed going to the Red Door for the last 30+years. I must share that a group of friends (6)and I went in this weekend and had the worst and most embarrassing experience. We went to Cadillac Jacks first, and had a wonderful time at their outdoor concert from 7-9. The concert was awesome, the service was top notch. We all decided to head to the Red Door for a couple drinks and call it a night(yes, we are all old). As we got there I noticed all tables were dirty and not too busy. We ended up sitting at dirty table. No bigee. We sat there for awhile and my husband just went to bar and got us all drinks. No bigee. We enjoyed our drinks and my friend went up to get us another round as it appeared they did not have waitresses working. No bigee. We sat there for hour and a half minding our own business and enjoying each other's company. Next thing we know Security comes over and cleans off table. He was very polite and said he was sorry about no waitress waiting on us. We replied No bigee we were just getting the drinks and it was all good. Next thing we know, waitress comes over and explains they are short staffed and there was a party of 15 outside taking all of her time and other waitress's called in last minute to not come to work and yada yada yada.She had a little melt down in front of us and We told her No Worries we can get our own drinks and to just go carry on with the 15 people outside. she then offered to give us FREE drinks and we told her "No, we just got one and we were fine and to just go take care of the 15 people." We really wanted to carry on with our visiting and didn't really care of the dilemma she was in. We were there to enjoy ourselves and have a nightcap.- Next thing we know Security guy comes over and tells us to leave. WHAT?? We were absolutely stunned. A couple at another table next to us seen what was going down and let security guy know that there must be some sort of miscommunication. Then security asked THEM to leave! It was the craziest thing ever! We asked to speak to manager and he said no. We kindly left bar and as we were outside about to get in vehicle the MANAGER came out like a crazy man and started yelling not to treat his waitress like we did! WTHECK! Dave you need to seriously evaluate your employees. I know it is really hard to find good help, but this was probably the worst behavior by employees I have ever seen. I thought you should know what is happening in your establishment. FYI...I also tried to reach you by phone. You get the message? Sought this place out based on reviews. As we go to Billings often, we have plenty of favorite places we like to go but we decided to try something new. We weren't disappointed! We got served almost immediately and our waitress was very professional. My only complaint or dislike is that it was VERY dark in there and thus hard to read the menu. Our food was surprisingly very fresh and huge portions. I wasn't expecting the quality of food we got as this seems more of a bar hangout and what a wonderful surprise. My husband remarked that the chicken Caesar salad he had was one of the best he's ever ordered. I had the Red Door Dip, and was only able to eat half. ..only cuz it was so big but very very tasty. I had the side salad and that was terrific as well. We definitely will be repeat customers although we will probably come back at lunch rather then in the evening. I am not really much into the hipster crowd and it's annoying to have servers constantly harassing you to buy drinks when you say no over 20 times.I did not feel comfortable here as a 22 year old my fiancé stepped outside with a friend and this creepy guy with a hat tried flirting with me and I showed my engagement ring with pride. Just moving here to Billings, I have been looking for something that had some flair, some outdoor seating with fireplaces and a quaint but comfortable dance floor with Karaoke. I was disappointed the other night as I was trying to find a place to celebrate New Year's Eve. We went to the Holiday Inn convention center and that bluegrass type of thing wasn't my style, then we went downtown and couldn't even walk into any of the bars downtown since their was so many people. As I was standing in line, the guy says to these girls," Hey, let's go to the Red Door." I immediately interrupted and said "I have a Red door, " and he said "I do too." I told him Red Door's were good luck and then I looked at my Boyfriend and said, " Let's Go!" I'm the car, we had 14 minutes to drive across town and get inside for the countdown. I walked in, grabbed a champagne toast and finally got to dance and sing. The Cocktail staff, all of them were Amazing and very Hospitable. The Bartender's were working hard and ready to serve! All of the staff at this place was just what I was wanting to be around! I even met the Owner and he was very personable and very friendly. This place was my cup of tea. I will be back, My Boyfriend will Definitely be back and I loved the whole Ambiance of the place. Really. My New Years Eve in this town was a night to not forget. This restaurant is one of the better ones in town. Their lunch is great, the waitresses are nice, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. A friend of mine is a poor college student and they let her eat outside food in there (she was with some coworkers and bagged a lunch) which motivated her to go there with her large family a few days later. A group of 6 friends and I went to the Red Door on a Sunday night and at 1130 they called the last call for drinks . There was more than 20 people at the bar and they made us rush out of there like we were holding them up from closing when it says they are open till 2 on their website . They are a bar and if there are paying customers they should be more considerate and be open till their stated hours .
