I was bored of the same old places, so I thought I'd give Tempura Express a try. I ordered California Roll - which was perfectly acceptable. And I also thought I ordered broccoli chicken. When I got home, it appeared to be broccoli beef - but it was very good. (I was too hungry to be picky). It's a small place but appeared to be very clean. It was somewhat late in the day on a Sunday and not at all busy. I would go back. There are not too many GOOD Asian restaurants in Anchorage. P.S. - a handwritten sign said they also had deep-fried Twinkies and Oreos! hah read more

They are good and fast but, I get sick every time I get sushi. I tried multiple different times and days I just get sick other then that it's a good takeout spot. read more

This is one of my favorite lunch places. The staff is always helpful and polite. Often they offer you soup as you wait for your food, even with a take out order. I've never waited more than a few minutes for my few. I've tried the rainbow, crunch, and mountain view rolls. All were excellent. The tempura is great, though the potato tempura is a bit plain if you don't dip it in the soy sauce. All in all this is a very good choice for a quick casual sushi meal. read more

I ordered the curry chicken to go and instead of curry chicken it was mostly curry fat. Gross!!! All of the "chicken" pieces were mostly fat like I was given all of the throw away pieces. I literally picked all of the pieces of "chicken/fat" out of the dish and just ate the rice with sauce. What was used for my curry chicken dish should have been thrown away... not given to a customer. I will not be going there again :-( read more

Went for lunch today. I had the Express Combo with Chicken Teriyaki, a crunchy roll, tempura, salad and some yaki. I can say I liked it, but it wasn't something I'd really go out of my way for. It is a good step up from food court steam table express places, but not quite a sit down place. The crunchy roll was acceptable, but very reminiscent of the kinds of sushi you get at all you can eat places... short on any real fish and lots of filler and a shrimp. It wasn't bad, just kind of flat. My chicken teriyaki was pretty good. The tempura I thought was fine, but the dipping sauce was fairly bland. I added some soy sauce to perk it up some. I sampled the Katsu Don.. the sauce was good. The pork cutlet, however, to me (and my fellow diners) had a flavor I associate with frozen prepared foods. That kind of bland background flavor, and I found it distracting. I also sampled the beef bulgogi. It was okay too, not too much to write home about. With a fairly flooded Asian fusion market in Anchorage, I think their speed, location to base, and delivery will sustain them. But, if I am in the mood for a quality Asian food meal, I wouldn't think here. If I happened to be up in Mountain View and wanted something fast and not typical fast food, I'd pop in here though. read more

The woman at the front desk was extremely rude and she yelled at me while was I picking up my order. Will not be coming back

First time trying Tempura Express and was pleased. I ordered the Mongolian Beef, wife and son had California Rolls, and daughter had the Chicken Teriyaki. Everyone enjoyed their meal (even the picky kids). The cashier and server were both attentive and welcoming. Service was fast and food was fresh. read more

Horrible service. Employees don't even respond when asked simple questions about lunch special, they just pointed to the sign and walked off. I asked her to clarify if they had lunch special or not and she rudely said: "no! Just order anything from there!" I ordered from the wall as instructed and then she came out and tossed my food in the counter and walked back to the kitchen. I called back to the kitchen to ask if they had any side sauces and again she yelled at me: "no!" Without even looking at my face, as she passed by with drinks for a table. The food is great but the service is deplorable. read more

Great food!! Clean service and well made fresh food (ihope) because each plate is above 6.99$..But i Recommend the Chicken yakisoba and Spicy teriyaki read more

Tempura Express - Chicken yakisoba: 8.99$ great for to-go order well served - Asian Fusion Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

We order from here regularly. Their sushi is always fresh and delicious. I was a bit peeved that the driver knocked my rolls over the other day and delivered a bit of a mess, but it's understandable and accidents happen. Out of the last 4 orders they've mistaken our order once, which isn't bad odds when compared to the rest of the delivery options nearby. read more

Very good meal, I got the almond chicken and Jalapeño roll. The hot sauce was so unexpectedly hot I couldn't even breathe!!! Besides that it was great food! read more

Horrible service. Went there with my kids to order the chicken teriyaki combo. We sat down and we're not immediately help as the lady went and help those of "opposite" color. I also notice the rash attitude when I asked simple questions to her. When our food came I asked for extra plates for my children and she said rudely "over there on side". Horrible service and the chicken was not tasty I would have rather went to hula hands or Kansas for better Teri chicken. The sauce was too salty and chicken very dry. Would not recommend to anyone read more

Tempura Express has been a favorite place of mine to go for Japanese cuisine on the east side of Anchorage - since they've opened! Their prices are on the cheaper side of the spectrum, but they still deliver quality sushi. Today I stopped in to pick up lunch and it was so busy. However, staff was very attentive and made sure all of their customers were taken care of. The orders were flying out one by one and through my observation, everyone was satisfied. Overall, customer service is always great and food is always great. read more

Pretty small place, easy to miss. Had the chicken teriyaki plate - good portion of chicken, scoop of rice, 2 pieces of tempura, small salad, and one gyoza, for $10. Hot food, fast service (ate there rather than takeout), and tasty. read more

Came for late lunch. The Kalbi, shrimp tempura, and shrimp fried rice were really, really good. Not bad on the price either. I'm trying other stuff on the menu next time. Maybe I'll try the combo boxes. Thumbs up! read more

So, after reading the reviews, I decided this was a must try. Since Tempura Inn (in the Dimond Center) went outta business, we've been searching, desperately, for a Chinese food replacement. I'll sum it up by saying this... I still haven't found it. At first arrival, the thing that struck me immediately, was the decor. I realize this is a restaurant/fast food joint in Alaska, but really? The benches, tables & chairs are all made out of wood. Like logs. Like log cabin logs. I thought it was a bit tacky. But whatever, Lincoln log decor or not, if it's good I'll overlook it. So, we ordered a Mongolian beef ($10.99 + $1 for fried rice upgrade) & a spicy chicken teriyaki ($7.99 + $1 for the fried rice upgrate) off of the "Steam Rice Plates" section and an order of Zucchini Tempura ($4.99). We got our order to go. The zucchini consisted of 5 pieces. I expected a bit more, but it was yummy and I figured I would just get two orders next time. The tempura was a little on the mushy side, but I attributed that to the fact that we drove all the way from Mt View to Klatt. My mongolian beef was ok. I wouldn't even call it good. Way too sweet. The fried rice was weird, and that's the best way I can describe it. It has a weird musty taste. IDK how to explain it other than that. SO next I tried my hubby's spicy chicken teriyaki. It's like chicken teriyaki rolled in buffalo wing sauce. Completely bizarre. So in short, we decided that if we were over there and in desperate need of food, we would stop again. Otherwise, we'll stick to what we know. read more

Decent, nothing more. For the quality of the sushi, I would say if the price of each roll was $2-4 cheaper it would be worth it. Nevertheless, it is convenient sushi that you can have delivered to your house. Also, they are open 7 days a week so that is a plus. The yakisoba I got as well was mediocre. I would definitely suggest getting a better tasting one of the other Asian restaurants around town. read more

Amazing rolls for great price. Tried the crunch roll and rainbow roll and they were amazing. You can expect fine restaurant quality food for value price! read more

Drive-thru tempura? Sushi and sashimi through a window in a wall? Sounds strange, but it's true and it tastes good, too. The prices aren't bad, the selection is good, and they are planning to begin delivery on Base later this summer. This is another hidden gem in the Mountain View area. read more

I've driven by this place so many times not really taking notice of it because I assumed it was another little over priced gimmicky restaurant with no flavor but I was completely wrong, which makes me mad because I could've been eating there far longer than I have been. It's a little on the spendy side for lunch but you won't leave there feeling hungry. They are quick and efficient without sacrificing the flavor or quality the food. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Anchorage. They are in an unassuming location, in a strip mall on Mountain View drive, but don't let that fool you, the food is delicious. My go to is the Hawaiian roll. The tuna is always fresh, and the crab / mayo mixture is just right. They are constantly expanding their menu, so ask if they have any new dishes. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming, always treating you like a valued guest. Next time you are in East / North Anchorage, give them a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

We order food at work for delivery, the chicken in the teriyaki was burnt so bad you can't taste the teriyaki , only burnt chicken, the order was wrong and the food was cold. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS FOOD- IT IS OVER PRICED AND DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT read more

Tempura Express was absolutely delicious! I ordered a large takeout order and everything was packaged perfectly with every sauce you could ask for. The sushi was fabulous but the egg flower soup was my favorite! It really was a nice surprise we stumbled upon. We will definitely be ordering again soon! read more

I love their spicy tuna rolls! It comes with their spicy house sauce. Always amazing. And major kudos for delivery service (min $25 order)

Super fast. Egg rolls were great. Chicken teriyaki looked and smelled awesome. But the veggie girlfriend wouldn't allow me to have any!! As usual. read more

Good Quick service. Great food! I always get the spicy chicken teriyaki. Sushi rolls always taste fresh. Tempura express serves alcohol!

I'm glad I found a convenient place to park and order sushi at the counter. A great alternative to standard fast food.

I love this spot! It's cute, portions are good size and staff is very on point!

So my bro took me out to eat on my birthday. The lady greeted us and we asked her where we can sit. She yelled at us that we can only sit in that corner? After we ordered our meals my bro mentioned to her that he wanted to make another order. She yells at him "next time order ahead of time!" She is very rude and I can tell that she's annoyed. I have worked been in her position before, BUT that is no way to disrespect and talk to your customers. When she talks to customers over the phone she gets upset and repeatedly says "oh my god!" whenever the phone goes off one after the other. When our food finally showed up, we got up to leave and the lady asked us "oh your leaving? You said you eat here?" "OK, BYE!" she walked away waving her hands. She didn't give us a chance to respond. That is the last time I'm eating there. She REALLY needs to work on her customer service, if she wants to keep her customers. read more

I like this place! I would really give them 3.5 stars but that's not an option so 4 it is. My work orders from them a lot on Fridays. I have seriously never had anything bad from these folks. I love their mongolian beef, its sweet, the beef is tender, and its very tasty! I regularly order the teriyaki chicken which is great too! and they have a combo that's called the Tempura Express Combo that has a crunch roll, chicken teriyaki, and shrimp tempura, salad, and some vegetable tempura, and one gyoza, that I love too. It's a lot of food but I always get two meals out of it so its worth it. This past Friday I had the spicy shrimp and vegetables and was very pleasantly surprised. The shrimp was sweet and really good, and the spicy sauce was light, non greasy, and served over a bunch of chow mein type vegetables with rice. It was very healthy and good! They are just decent Chinese food at a good price. One thing I really like about them too is that in there "to go" orders they separate all the items by putting them in foil. So the rice is in the container, with like the spicy shrimp in a separate foil container next to it. So they don't mix together until you mix them and they stay warm. When I got my meal Friday it was actually hot enough to burn my tongue still, even after delivery! The restaurant itself is clean, neat, bright, and full of light. It is not a huge place but has enough tables that you can sit and eat and enjoy your meal if you wish. I always get my stuff to go but it is busy most of the time when I go in there! We order from them a lot at work because its the one place that just about everyone in the building can find something they really like! It's definitely one of the best Chinese places in town I think! Just an FYI, they don't take checks! Not that anyone really does anymore but some folks might want to know that. read more

This place will always be my go to lunch spot! It's not as expensive as most sushi places, and they have so many delicious entrees too! My husbands favorite roll is the Mountain View roll, and I LOVE their potato roll when I'm in the mood for something fried. They also have great customizable options. You can get any roll deep fried, or add/take off things. Most sushi places are pretty picky about custom orders; but not here! The staff is also SUPER friendly! I'm always greeted with a big genuine smile! Definitely go here if you are craving sushi, or order for delivery/to go! read more

This is my "go to" place for quick rolls. They have over 35 sushi rolls ($7-$13) featuring both a combination of traditional types and their own creations. All the rolls I've tried have been delicious. The Tempura Express Combo ($15) with teriyaki chicken, tempura shrimp and a crunch roll is a great value, but too big as one meal for the average person. It didn't have a "wow factor" but enjoyable enough to share or take the leftovers home. I'm not sure why there are Fried Twinkies on the menu .... haha They are always super friendly and hard working, and maintain a clean kitchen and eating area. The restaurant seats about 30 people and has one big table for 8 in the middle. The tables are rustic log style. I noticed delivery is available for orders over $25, but I haven't tried it yet. Tempura Express is in a small strip center with Subway, and the driveway entrance is just north of McDonalds. read more

I love Tempura Express! The Mongolian Beef, Spicy Shrimp with veggies and all the sushi is delicious.

I love the food here! I've had the chicken katsu combo and the sesame chicken. Both delicious. Also tried the crunch roll and was not disappointed being that it is a fast food restaurant. Prefer to order it over the phone for pick up since it kind of takes long to get the food if I were to eat there. read more

Went here for lunch, had a bento box! Food was delicious. Good spot to stop by for quality Asian food!

I had no idea this restaurant was here! I took my sister out to dinner and she suggested we go to this place. I was very pleased with the food. The staff was friendly. The restaurant was clean. I will definitely keep coming here. read more

After making a lunchtime purchase of 2 house fried rice, sesame chicken and 2 spicy sauce delivered to my work like we usually do atleast twice a week the order came and the sauce wasnt in there which wasnt a big deal so i went up there when i picked my son up to pick up the sauce and the lady had a huge attitude. I explained i had made a order earlier and she kept huffing and puffing rolling her eyes and getting short with me. She said there was 3 different spicy sauces. I said we usually get the orange one and she said which one...i said i dont know if its sriracha and mayo or what so she brings me sriracha and slams it down and rolls her eyes and tells me there now leave. Our company spends hundreds of dollars here monthly and for her to have so much attitude over some sauce is ridiculous and we will never spend another dime in that place again! read more
