I was bored of the same old places, so I thought I'd give Tempura Express a try. I ordered California Roll - which was perfectly acceptable. And I also thought I ordered broccoli chicken. When I got home, it appeared to be broccoli beef - but it was very good. (I was too hungry to be picky). It's a small place but appeared to be very clean. This is one of my favorite lunch places. The staff is always helpful and polite. Often they offer you soup as you wait for your food, even with a take out order. I've never waited more than a few minutes for my few. I've tried the rainbow, crunch, and mountain view rolls. All were excellent. The tempura is great, though the potato tempura is a bit plain if you don't dip it in the soy sauce. All in all this is a very good choice for a quick casual sushi meal. read more

I ordered the curry chicken to go and instead of curry chicken it was mostly curry fat. Gross!!! All of the "chicken" pieces were mostly fat like I was given all of the throw away pieces. I literally picked all of the pieces of "chicken/fat" out of the dish and just ate the rice with sauce. What was used for my curry chicken dish should have been thrown away... not given to a customer. I will not be going there again :-( read more

First time trying Tempura Express and was pleased. I ordered the Mongolian Beef, wife and son had California Rolls, and daughter had the Chicken Teriyaki. Went for lunch today. I had the Express Combo with Chicken Teriyaki, a crunchy roll, tempura, salad and some yaki. I can say I liked it, but it wasn't something I'd really go out of my way for. It is a good step up from food court steam table express places, but not quite a sit down place. The crunchy roll was acceptable, but very reminiscent of the kinds of sushi you get at all you can eat places... short on any real fish and lots of filler and a shrimp. It wasn't bad, just kind of flat. My chicken teriyaki was pretty good. The tempura I thought was fine, but the dipping sauce was fairly bland. I added some soy sauce to perk it up some. I sampled the Katsu Don.. the sauce was good. The pork cutlet, however, to me (and my fellow diners) had a flavor I associate with frozen prepared foods. That kind of bland background flavor, and I found it distracting. I also sampled the beef bulgogi. It was okay too, not too much to write home about. With a fairly flooded Asian fusion market in Anchorage, I think their speed, location to base, and delivery will sustain them. But, if I am in the mood for a quality Asian food meal, I wouldn't think here. If I happened to be up in Mountain View and wanted something fast and not typical fast food, I'd pop in here though. read more

Horrible service. Employees don't even respond when asked simple questions about lunch special, they just pointed to the sign and walked off. I asked her to clarify if they had lunch special or not and she rudely said: "no! Just order anything from there!" I ordered from the wall as instructed and then she came out and tossed my food in the counter and walked back to the kitchen. I called back to the kitchen to ask if they had any side sauces and again she yelled at me: "no!" Without even looking at my face, as she passed by with drinks for a table. I was a bit peeved that the driver knocked my rolls over the other day and delivered a bit of a mess, but it's understandable and accidents happen. Tempura Express has been a favorite place of mine to go for Japanese cuisine on the east side of Anchorage - since they've opened! Their prices are on the cheaper side of the spectrum, but they still deliver quality sushi. Today I stopped in to pick up lunch and it was so busy. However, staff was very attentive and made sure all of their customers were taken care of. The orders were flying out one by one and through my observation, everyone was satisfied. Horrible service. Went there with my kids to order the chicken teriyaki combo. We sat down and we're not immediately help as the lady went and help those of "opposite" color. I also notice the rash attitude when I asked simple questions to her. When our food came I asked for extra plates for my children and she said rudely "over there on side". Horrible service and the chicken was not tasty I would have rather went to hula hands or Kansas for better Teri chicken. The sauce was too salty and chicken very dry. So, after reading the reviews, I decided this was a must try. Since Tempura Inn (in the Dimond Center) went outta business, we've been searching, desperately, for a Chinese food replacement. I'll sum it up by saying this... I still haven't found it. At first arrival, the thing that struck me immediately, was the decor. I realize this is a restaurant/fast food joint in Alaska, but really? The benches, tables & chairs are all made out of wood. Like logs. Like log cabin logs. I thought it was a bit tacky. But whatever, Lincoln log decor or not, if it's good I'll overlook it. So, we ordered a Mongolian beef ($10.99 + $1 for fried rice upgrade) & a spicy chicken teriyaki ($7.99 + $1 for the fried rice upgrate) off of the "Steam Rice Plates" section and an order of Zucchini Tempura ($4.99). We got our order to go. The zucchini consisted of 5 pieces. I expected a bit more, but it was yummy and I figured I would just get two orders next time. The tempura was a little on the mushy side, but I attributed that to the fact that we drove all the way from Mt View to Klatt. My mongolian beef was ok. I wouldn't even call it good. Way too sweet. The fried rice was weird, and that's the best way I can describe it. It has a weird musty taste. IDK how to explain it other than that. SO next I tried my hubby's spicy chicken teriyaki. It's like chicken teriyaki rolled in buffalo wing sauce. Completely bizarre. So in short, we decided that if we were over there and in desperate need of food, we would stop again. This is one of my favorite places in Anchorage. They are in an unassuming location, in a strip mall on Mountain View drive, but don't let that fool you, the food is delicious. My go to is the Hawaiian roll. The tuna is always fresh, and the crab / mayo mixture is just right. They are constantly expanding their menu, so ask if they have any new dishes. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming, always treating you like a valued guest. Next time you are in East / North Anchorage, give them a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Nevertheless, it is convenient sushi that you can have delivered to your house. Also, they are open 7 days a week so that is a plus. The yakisoba I got as well was mediocre. So my bro took me out to eat on my birthday. The lady greeted us and we asked her where we can sit. She yelled at us that we can only sit in that corner? After we ordered our meals my bro mentioned to her that he wanted to make another order. She yells at him "next time order ahead of time!" She is very rude and I can tell that she's annoyed. I have worked been in her position before, BUT that is no way to disrespect and talk to your customers. When she talks to customers over the phone she gets upset and repeatedly says "oh my god!" whenever the phone goes off one after the other. When our food finally showed up, we got up to leave and the lady asked us "oh your leaving? You said you eat here?" "OK, BYE!" she walked away waving her hands. This place will always be my go to lunch spot! It's not as expensive as most sushi places, and they have so many delicious entrees too! My husbands favorite roll is the Mountain View roll, and I LOVE their potato roll when I'm in the mood for something fried. They also have great customizable options. You can get any roll deep fried, or add/take off things. Most sushi places are pretty picky about custom orders; but not here! The staff is also SUPER friendly! I like this place! I would really give them 3.5 stars but that's not an option so 4 it is. My work orders from them a lot on Fridays. I have seriously never had anything bad from these folks. I love their mongolian beef, its sweet, the beef is tender, and its very tasty! I regularly order the teriyaki chicken which is great too! and they have a combo that's called the Tempura Express Combo that has a crunch roll, chicken teriyaki, and shrimp tempura, salad, and some vegetable tempura, and one gyoza, that I love too. It's a lot of food but I always get two meals out of it so its worth it. This past Friday I had the spicy shrimp and vegetables and was very pleasantly surprised. The shrimp was sweet and really good, and the spicy sauce was light, non greasy, and served over a bunch of chow mein type vegetables with rice. It was very healthy and good! They are just decent Chinese food at a good price. One thing I really like about them too is that in there "to go" orders they separate all the items by putting them in foil. So the rice is in the container, with like the spicy shrimp in a separate foil container next to it. So they don't mix together until you mix them and they stay warm. When I got my meal Friday it was actually hot enough to burn my tongue still, even after delivery! The restaurant itself is clean, neat, bright, and full of light. It is not a huge place but has enough tables that you can sit and eat and enjoy your meal if you wish. I always get my stuff to go but it is busy most of the time when I go in there! We order from them a lot at work because its the one place that just about everyone in the building can find something they really like! After making a lunchtime purchase of 2 house fried rice, sesame chicken and 2 spicy sauce delivered to my work like we usually do atleast twice a week the order came and the sauce wasnt in there which wasnt a big deal so i went up there when i picked my son up to pick up the sauce and the lady had a huge attitude. I explained i had made a order earlier and she kept huffing and puffing rolling her eyes and getting short with me. She said there was 3 different spicy sauces. I said we usually get the orange one and she said which one...i said i dont know if its sriracha and mayo or what so she brings me sriracha and slams it down and rolls her eyes and tells me there now leave. This is my "go to" place for quick rolls. They have over 35 sushi rolls ($7-$13) featuring both a combination of traditional types and their own creations. All the rolls I've tried have been delicious. The Tempura Express Combo ($15) with teriyaki chicken, tempura shrimp and a crunch roll is a great value, but too big as one meal for the average person. It didn't have a "wow factor" but enjoyable enough to share or take the leftovers home. I'm not sure why there are Fried Twinkies on the menu .... haha They are always super friendly and hard working, and maintain a clean kitchen and eating area. The restaurant seats about 30 people and has one big table for 8 in the middle. The tables are rustic log style. I noticed delivery is available for orders over $25, but I haven't tried it yet. Tempura Express is in a small strip center with Subway, and the driveway entrance is just north of McDonalds. read more
