We just wanted a quick brunch, so we decided to go to Tempo. There was no wait. Then the server brought us a small dish with a plum and a slice of orange. We had no idea what the plum was for, but we ate the orange. When they say the omelette is made out of 5 eggs, best believe it. We didnt even order that much because we didnt want to be stuffed but our jaws dropped when the waitress brought the food out. The omelette came in a pan and it looked and was a lot. Chicago, you can do better then this... Eggs Benedict with some barely poached eggs. Lox bagel with no cream cheese served on a bed of old brown lettuce. What they lacked in cream cheese on the bagel, they made up for with mayonnaise on the club sandwich - wow there was a a freaking ton of mayo on that puppy. I wanted to have an opportunity to sit down and have breakfast and I searched for breakfast near me and the this location was a 5 min walk from my hotel. The reviews were amazing and I ventured to the location. They have both outdoor and indoor dinning and yes there's a line. I was flexible so I got to eat inside. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Just reading the menu and saw "The Scrambler Skillet" and immediately wanted it. It's basically an omelet that you build with a choice of ingredients 3 options. I had bacon, tomatoes & onions and green peppers, it comes with a 4 cheese blend toast and home fries. They serve freshly squeezed orange juice with pulp but it's delicious. The staff are very polite and courteous. It's a location that the entire family can eat or a date or just yourself. I had an excellent breakfast at Tempo Cafe this weekend. Even at 8:00 in the morning on Sunday, the place was quite busy! After eating there, I totally understand. We dined in their outdoor seating and it was a great way to enjoy the weather. Service was wonderful - efficient and friendly. We both ordered the scrambler skillets and they were so yummy. I'll dream about that melty cheese! The portions were generous enough that I took my leftovers home to eat for dinner and breakfast the next day! The toast and marmalade served with your entrees is great too. The toast is thick cut and the marmalade is homemade. Okay so here's my revised review !!!! My mom, son and I had breakfast here last week! I haven't been here in over 10 years. All the booths were crowded but it just so happened to be one available. We were seated, asked if we wanted coffee, water was brought out right away. Waitress took our order and our food was brought out fast. Out food was hot, delicious and fresh. It was about $45. Not including tip. My son and I shared a scrambler skillet which came with Mozzarella, Cheddar, American and Swiss cheese and four add ons. I added spinach, bacon, onions and jalapeño peppers it also came with hash browns and your choice of toast or an English muffin. My mom got the three eggs skillet with cheese, hash browns and extra toast. We also each got turkey sausage links on the side. (Four links came per order) They have the best Turkey Sausage links I have ever had! Sorry I didn't get a picture they came out a little after we got our eggs. Great breakfast spot with fast service! I like that this place is (normally) open 24-7. During COVID, they aren't open all night but do open super early. The omelets are huge and fluffy - I ordered the veggie omelet with egg whites. The skillets and pancakes were also hits. Their thick Greek sesame seed toast is great and served with homemade orange marmalade, if you're trying to pick your bread side. Service is very fast and friendly. A Chicago institution and a classic diner. I have come here for breakfast several times. You can't go wrong with any of their selection. Large portions served in a skillet. I typically get the eggs scrambled and sausage patties which are huge. Love their English muffins too. I always get mine buttered. The hash browns aren't bad but I like mine cooked more. I used to come here super late at night when Tempo was a 24 hour restaurant and I'd either come here for pancakes, a slice of pie or their delicious skillets. I truly hope sometime in the near future they will reopen their late night kitchen especially since it was such a relaxing place to unwind after work. During this current pandemic I've revisited a handful of times and dined outside to order a burger and shake or a tuna melt with fries. I am never disappointed with the service or quality of the food and this is the perfect all American diner to enjoy comfort food or brunch. It's always a relaxing experience and the staff here tries their best to give you good service. We had just came from StudiosFUSE where they had a Grand opening night and realized after we left that we could go for something to eat. We found street parking right in front of the restaurant; After walking through the doors we were all greeted and seated right away. I took my extra long jacket off (which made the winter feel like summer) and placed on the back of my chair. After looking through the menu I was deciding between something as light as fresh squeezed grapefruit juice or something a bit more in the (not too heavy) like stir fried veggies. When it was my turn to order, I cleared my throat, and kindly conveyed that I would like to try their veggie stir fry with a spot of tea. They had the usual green and black teas; I ordered the calm chamomile tea by Tazo (I know I know, living life on the edge a little bit). I also ordered a water with lemon on the side as tea is quite dehydrating. There were a good amount of people inside dining and food came out promptly. The veggies weren't overly cooked they had a nice crunch to it, which is just how I like (all vitamins still present). I ate a few bites of the rice but didn't finish. We came here on a Monday morning and about half the restaurant was filled with customers. They have a really extensive breakfast menu, which took me a while to skim through. I finally settled on a scramble with tomatoes, zucchini, and turkey sausage. The scramble comes in a skillet with potatoes that are just the right amount of crispy and a side of toast. The scramble was a huge portion and I only finished about half of the food. I enjoyed the cozy feel of Tempo Cafe and the solid food. Cafe Tempo serves diner food. It's a lovely spot with a nice big outdoor patio and a pleasant interior. Food prices are on par with the rest of the area (expect to spend $20 for a meal) but that being said the taste leaves a little to be desired. Diner food isn't anything extraordinary so $12 for a small BLT is a little disheartening. That being said, the surrounding area is very pricey so in comparison one could argue the price is reasonable. Service was really slow and there were hardly any people in the restaurant. We had to flag our waiter down multiple times. All in all, not sure if this place is worth a trip. It's standard diner food you could get at any diner in the city.
