Margaret came in to help our company out during a very difficult time. The previous president had been let go, and I recently had to remove our CFO as well. Our books were a mess. We really didn't have any idea of what the real state of our finances and contracts were. We had failed an audit, and the systems we had in place had not prevented internal waste, fraud and abuse. Margaret quickly got our books in order, helped us find an internal bookkeeper that she trusted, put proper financial systems in place, and helped educate our board of directors on the status. Fast Forward to a couple of weeks ago. I was so happy with my first H and R Block experience that I visited again...... bad move. The thing that I didn't realize is my taxes are a little more complicated from a year ago. I am filing jointly with my wife, I moved to another state, I have a 401K, a HSA, etc. With each complicated task, you get charged more money. I left H and R block with a 400 dollar bill! The crooked thing is that they don't tell you your total till after you are done completing your filling. After sitting there for 2 hours I didn't have the patience left to say "Never mind, I'll go somewhere else".I left angry that some of my wonderful tax return would have to go back to H and R Block. Especially considering I don't have any idea what the heck they did. I watched the guy hit the buttons..... it looked like something I could have done from home! Next year its all about Turbo Tax. If you are single, then H and R Block is great, but if you have difficult taxes I would consider finding another alternative.
