Never take your German car with its complex electronics and computer system to this place. They do not have the capability to diagnose the car and tell you what is wrong with your car. I have an Audi A7 and while driving it the A/C stopped working. I took my car to Tech Star just because it was close to my office (which was a huge mistake). They first told me that the A/C compressor is the problem and was going to sell me the compressot for $1,100 and then gave me $300 discount on the part. That was the first red flag for me. I just did a quick search online and purchased the OEM part with all the additional hardware for $400. They started working on my car and I was told that it would take 2-3 hours. First day went by and they could not fix the car and no one told me that the car was not fixed. I stopped by the shop at 5:00pm on that day to get an update and found out they were left for the day. I called the owner Joseph and he told me that he is driving and yelled at me "what are you gonna do now!" The next day I found out that they messed up my car's electronics and could not figure out what the problem was. Long story short, it took them more than a week of holding my car in their shop and just throwing parts at it plus wasting my time and giving me absolutely no clear reason or indication of what is going on, so they come to the conclusion that they still need more time to figure out where the issue is. I took my car this morning to Audi of South Coast and within an hour it was diagnosed with a bad fuse that was causing the problem. The fuse was $2+$159 diagnosis fee. I also asked them to check my original Ac compressor and turned out the compressor was completely functional and had no problem (here I wasted $400 on compressor based on Tech Star diagnosis) Out of this whole process, what I got was frustration, money out of pocket for parts that were not needed, damage to the plastic cover under the hood by Tech Star, and complete waste of time. For the sake of yourself and your car please do not take your car to this place if you drive a German car later than 2002. They might know how to work on older cars, but they definitely have no clue how to work on newer cars and might just damage your car. read more

Had a leak in my radiator. They ordered the new part and switched it out for a new one. About $700 ish. They called me back the next day to get the car. I drove about a block away in the car died. We drove it back to them and they had forgot to connect a part. Call me back about an hour later to come get it again. Was driving home and noticed the AC was no longer working. when I got home I noticed that there were parts hanging off from the engine. I took it back again and they fixed the AC. Just a pain to keep going back when things we're done right the first time. read more

What a great auto shop! I was so stressed out after purchasing a car that the dealer implied was in great shape, but actually turned out to need a lot of work. Josef and his staff were so helpful and accommodating for all of my needs. He came highly recommended by another local shop I had liked, but because this car was an important build, it's always better to go with someone who specializes in them. I was clearly explained everything that immediately needed to be fixed and low priority work. I was offered a really phenomenal good rate for the many services required. The staff went above and beyond with this work too. They even helped fix stuff that wasn't part of the original request and did so at no extra cost. They finished by steam cleaning my engine, washing my car and then showing me the old parts vs new work completed. It was a really awesome experience. I am so incredibly grateful to Josef and his staff for all of their help and hard work. They really helped me feel much less scared and overwhelmed after a really rough used car purchase. This is probably one of my favorite places to go get my BMW fixed. I went to get my ignition fixed because My key was popping out of my ignition lock and Joseph the owner of the company fixed it while I was waiting next to my car and said there was no fee the other places I went to before that said I needed A new ignition assembly which would've cost me around $1000 plus. it is what you know in the business and Joseph knows basically everything you need to know in German cars. had an overall bad experience with joseph (owner) with one of my vehicles took in a 91 nissan 300zx to be diagnosed and repaired, long story short after I pay to tow in my vehicle he calls me back like two days later stating he cant fix the car because he could not get the parts because the car was to old (yet he works on my 90's BMW) then he says the parts will take to long to ship etc.. so he calls me and rushes me to quote "get the car out of his shop because he needs space for other cars" some way to treat a paying customer should not have said yes to something you are unable to accomplish. so when I went to go pick up my car last night he locked my car and did not leave the keys which i believe he did purposely because of a bad review I left on google. I would not recommend this shop to anyone ridiculous. read more

I brought my 2004 Mercedes E320 there for a simple repair. I was then told I needed an auxiliary battery, then I was told I needed an Alternator. Then I was told that my brand new 6month old battery was bad. When I go to pick it up every dash light was on and nothing electrical work. No AC, no power windows, no power seats, nothing. To make matters worse the original problem I brought the car in there for was not even fixed. They say well you need a battery control module now. They would not repair at their cost even though I had none of these issues when I dropped off he car. Come to find out that improper installation of the alternator can cause computer modules in Mercedes burn out. I have two burnt out modules to prove it, long story short. After a reluctant $1,000 at Tech Star to get my car back, I had to pay another great mechanic "Precision Import" $1,800 to repair their mistake. At the bottom of Tech Star Motors receipt it reads "our mission is to have a positive attitude at all times, and completely satisfy our customers" well that could not be further from the truth. That is a joke! Oh I forgot to mention that was after them keeping my car for over 6 weeks, with he promises "I will take care of it, don't worry my friend". Stay away from Tech Star and go to "Precision Motors"down the street for your import auto repair. read more

Had to get my radiator replaced on my 06 Volvo S80 and they finished service within a good time and at a great price. Everyone who worked there was very nice. Would go back again for any car repair I can't do myself. They also seemed knowledgeable on my car which is usually harder to find especially with Volvo's. read more

My 2004 mercedes CLK had a broken door latch and I took it in to Techstar last Monday. By Tuesday afternoon (next day), my car was ready and Joseph had fixed my misaligned bumper for free! I have a hectic work schedule and appreciate how fast my car was fixed. Joseph was very personable and even arranged and paid for my rental car for the day so that I could make it to work. My daughter bottomed out her 2000 Passat and had an oil leak. She paid $499.80 to fix it and drove home to San Diego. The next day it has a severe oil leak. I called Techstar Motors Engineeringto find out what happened and was told she had more damage above the oil pan they changed. Nothing was noted on the sales slip in the "recommended repairs". So, my daughter went to this shop to fix an oil leak, spend $499.80 and still has an oil leak. They knew she was driving from Corona to San Diego, I am very glad she did not run out of oil and have a major accident. read more

I have a 1995 Volvo 960 that was taken to the Volvo dealership to correct an oil leak. $1500 later the car is home and within 2 months it starts leaking again. So this time I take it to a factory trained mechanic that corrects the leak for $700 and he tells me not to put any more money into this old car. Well an oil leak returns so I try Techstar motors this time. These guys are incredible! First they diagnosed why I was having oil leaks (clogged oil recovery tank) from the crankcase pressure and then proceeded to replace the tank and fix the leaks. So I'm feeling better about keeping the car and ask them to look at getting the A/C working, despite previously being told it would run about $750-800. Turns out it was only a pressure switch and $80 later the a/C will freeze you out of the car. They have given me back a car that previously wasn't trusted to go over a 20 mile round trip to one that looks like it could be driven for 850,000 miles more and join the one million mile Volvo club. They did it for half of what others charge and did it right. Pretty hard to find this kind of a repair shop these days, but so glad I did. Did I mention that Joseph is also an aircraft mechanic. Maybe this is why they fix it right and keep a shop that one could eat off the floor. Truth of the matter is they don't charge enough for their services. read more
