Disk Doctors (off Oakbrook Parkway) in Norcross saved me. I provided them with my new disk and they successfully cloned my drive (which was encrypted) to the new drive that day. I brought my laptop in put the new disk in, booted up, and voila. 100%. They quoted me an outrageous price initially before any work was done. So, when I went to get my drive back, they made a more reasonable quote. I told them deal and the next day, everything went like clockwork. Word to wise, back up your data. It was a $650 lesson.

My wife was inattentive to backups and when her computer suddenly died (literally, it went up in…read moresmoke) our IT guys couldn't access the disk to copy files to another machine -- the electronics were fried. The only option they could suggest was disk doctors. DD took the disk apart and basically built a new disk around the old platter, and managed to recover pretty much everything my wife cared about -- her professional emails and contact information, her emails from her mom (who had passed away, so those had a lot of personal value to her). It wasn't cheap, and in fact we needed two "rounds" of recovery to find all the files we needed -- be careful to check the list they supply and confirm that it really has all your critical data, because in our case, there were files not on that list that we needed. Then I also needed to purchase a tool for repairing corrupted Microsoft Outlook email files, from a company named Stellar Phoenix. But with that, and the disk doctors guys, I'm definitely a fan and my wife is overjoyed to have her stuff back. Now she'll be better about backups...

At the enterprise level, use someone reputable. At a personal level.....well -- I have an external hard drive that failed. The only data on it was personal flat files and some photographs. Quote to recover the data? OVER $5,000!!! What? The hard drive only cost about $30. They kept wanting me to run this through my insurance...... Bottom line -- go somewhere else -- this is a scam.

Jamin is amazing and incredibly generous... I can't imagine having to go to Apple at Lenox, trying to find a parking place, waiting in line, all the mall waste of time an entrepreneur doesn't have. He's fixed countless computers (for both my spouse's business and mine) - these guys are honest and efficient and KNOW their craft. My MacBook Air audio stopped one day and he assessed the issue (I did with Apple virtually and they totally dropped the ball) running the same diagnostics as Apple then said "it's the daughter board." Ordered the part and had it fixed in less than 3 hours. I won't trust my MacBook to anyone else. Jamin is the MAN and the crew at Tech Genius are outstanding! read more

This repair shop is a beautiful gem nestled between Midtown and the Old Fourth Ward. No, I'm not the owner, but a very satisfied customer who appreciates great work (note the reviewer who said that her computer was running better after having it serviced by Tech Genius than when it was new- my experience to a tee!), quick turn-around, great attitude, and very reasonable prices. I had my computer serviced by another Midtown computer repair business to remove malware. They charged me 50% more, did not remove all the malware, ran no updates, and left it very dusty. I love Tech Genius and their services! We just recently moved our office from NYC to ATL and had a network, server, several computers, and ability for NYC office to stay connected and share the network--as a non-computer person this was all very overwhelming. The local Comcast people were not helpful and Jamin came in and made everything work without losing time or affecting the business transition. I was very weary of where to take my laptop to get serviced. I just needed to get the fan cleaned and most places charged an arm and a leg to have this done. They could not guarantee that I would get it in less than a week before my travel time however, I got a call a day after dropping it off that it was ready for pick up and it was a motherboard issue.
