As summer visitors to the area for many (well over 25) years, we have always had our long-held favorites for Mexican food in town. On a recent visit, we just "happened upon" the Tecate Grill in a location to which they apparently only recently moved (Northwest Blvd). It looked inviting so we gave it a try .... we left very happy that we did and have found a new "favorite" in town for great Mexican food in a nice environment. One thing that always sets a restaurant apart in our view .... sometimes even more than the food and drink themselves .... is the service. There was certainly no disappointment there, either. Our server was friendly, helpful and had a "positive energy" that would be hard to beat anywhere. An "A" for food, an "A" for service, and an "A" for the cleanliness and appeal of the facility itself .... and family friendly all the way! We'll be back and I'm pleased to recommend Tecate Grill to anyone in the Spokane area who appreciates a good Mexican food meal! read more

We visited Tecate for a second time last night and again we were not impressed. We both ordered the Tecate Burrito. It was bland, green peppers overcooked and the chunks of chicken were rubbery. And it was lukewarm. Food is overpriced. We were annoyed by the constant whistling of one of the staff members. Food has not improved since the move to a new location. Wow. I've always heard great things about Tecate but it's the first time we've been there. Absolutely fantastic. We had a party of about 12. The food was amazing authentic Mexican food. I believe everyone had something different and we all loved the food (Nachos, Quesadillas, Burritos, Enchiladas, Tamales, Fish Tacos, Salads...everyone was excellent). I have visited here several times because the food was very tasty and the portions large enough to have leftovers. However, when I went the last time to make use of an Entertainment book coupon, they refused to honor it. Bad bad business practice. A re-purposed furniture store into a Mexican restaurant. It is bright and modern as compared to the traditional Mexican setup. The chips were hot and thin which is the way I prefer. The salsa was mild, not too hot. The grande portion included two entrées (I had the chimmi and the tamale). The portions were well sized but the tamale was primarily corn meal. There was very little beef. Would not recommend the tamales, where as, the chimmi contained sufficient beef. I am not a spicy eater so the seasoning was fine and there is hot sauce on the table for those who want more heat. Happy hour discounted the Mexican beers on tap which was a nice touch. read more

Their food is the closest thing you'll get to Southern California Mexican food if that's what you're looking for. My first time here, and my last time here. We arrived at 6:40, sat at out table around 6:50. Was not given menus, had to ask. 15 mins later, asked what we want to drink. Took another 15 mins to get. Another 15 mins till they took our order. Waiter kept passed us by. While taking our order, the waiter had to do another task then came back and finished our order. Asked to speak to the manager. 2 people had to tell him we wanted to speak to him, and he even passed us up. When he finally came, we asked if he could compensate our drinks and he said he couldn't. So disappointed with the customer service. Granted it was busy, but WOW, I've been to restaurants which were much busier then they were and had impeccable service. read more

Located in the Shadle Walmart parking. Average food, convenient location to the home and typically sound service. I would not rate it as the best Mexican food in the area but more along the lines as adequate. I like the chips and salsa which is a must staple and probably one of the reasons I go to Mexican restaurants in general. The food in general is closer Americanized Mexican food than Mexican Mexican food. My one personal positive is that they play soccer on the tvs and the tvs are view-able from most of the restaurant so you don't necessarily have to sit in the bar to watch. read more

Once again we thought we would attempt to make it to Taco Tumbras because my sister wanted their fish taco, but once again, they weren't open when they were supposed to be. So Taco Tumbras' loss is Tecate Grills gain! I had the 3 chicken tacos which came with like a light bean soup on the side. Big difference from refried beans. The tacos are like Taco Tumbras in that they are more Mexican style than American. The corn tortilla type. Very good. I couldn't eat all the food given. Salsa was not bad. Had a bit of eat. I've been eating at Tecate for a while at the Shadle location, and now just tried the new place. Service is pretty quick as normal, they seem to kept the same staff which is a good sign. It was pretty busy due to the hype of the new place, but it didn't seem to slow things down. I had fish tacos, good stuff but the sauce was a little light on the fish. We didn't get asked for 20 mins what we wanted to drink, after we got our food we never saw our server again. My husband went his entire meal without a drink. My husband drives by here every day on his home from work and always comments how busy it is. So today, we went over for lunch. The steak fajitas were great. Everything was fresh and the meat was cooked perfectly. We always ask for the beef to be as rare as possible - mostly to make sure it doesn't get burnt to a crisp - and they brought it out perfect. The rice and black beans were good. The lunch margarita was yummy. We will definitely make it back over there again. So to start off the only reason I'm giving this place 1 star is for the service! The food is fantastic and the best Mexican food in Spokane by far. But the service I received from Noryolee was the worst service I've ever gotten, ANYWHERE. She messed up my entire order which is fine, no problem, mistakes happen, but it was how she handled it that makes me never want to go back which makes me sad because I love their food! She was so rude and basically told me her mistake was my fault and got this super big attitude with me. I was so uncomfortable after that I didn't even want to finish my dinner. I would love to come back, but honestly don't think I ever will if she's still working there! Started out top shelf. Excellent taste and portion size. Seems like they've gone downhill a little now - February 2017. Portion size and taste has degraded some. We often order the Tecate Grill for 2 which comes with a decent-size platter of sides to fill various tortillas with the grilled steak chicken or sausage but not very good lately. This is my favorite place to go for fajitas and enchiladas in Spokane. Pablo is so kind and always remembers our names. He even remembers that I often substitute green sauce in recipes that come with red. He is always so nice to our kids and addresses them directly. We used to go to their old location quite frequently and anxiously awaited their grand opening. We experienced a few hiccups when they first reopened but came back today after a bit of a break and whatever was wrong has definitely been fixed. We will definitely keep coming back now. Their chips and salsa are so delicious! I got a Pico #1 with a cheese enchilada. My partner got a bean burrito. The kids got a burrito and a quesadilla. We all loved our food and it was served piping hot, which is important to me. The only downside to their new location is the noise level so get a booth if you need to have much conversation. It is a very clean restaurant and they keep it warm, which is really important this time of year. The prices are great. Lunch for the whole family was only $26. read more

Just wrote a bad review on another restaurant that we used to frequent. We stopped going there a few years back but gave it another try tonight. Now I know why we love Tecate so much. Tecate has friendly staff that provide excellent service. Food comes out pretty quickly but not so fast that you wonder how long the chicken in your enchilada had actually been cooked. We were very disappointed with our meal this time. It used to be our favorite place. Ordered Nachos with beef and the bottom was just soaked in grease . Also another couple ordered chicken nachos. Zero flavor in the chicken. They were extremely busy so maybe that had something to do with poor food. We probably will try there one more time just to see if this bad food is going to be the norm.
