Teca is one of my go-to's in west Chester - and for good reason! One of the only tapas places (and the absolute best in west Chester), Teca is always crowded on weekend evenings. However, I've always been able to grab an open table reservation for two or seats at the bar at the last minute. The restaurant itself has a lively atmosphere. Although crowded, tables are decently spaced so you're lot dining on top of your neighbor. Service and friendly, polite, and well-versed in their menu. They have a great wine list as well as a variety of beers and cocktails. The menu is pretty varied, making it a nice place to go for either tapas or larger entrees. We love getting several tapas to share. Some of our favorites include the bruschetta, the burrata, the hummus platter, and the calamari. However, they also have a variety of salads, antipasti, meats and cheeses that are great as well! The entrees consist of traditional Italian pasta or meat dishes. Very nice restaurant to enjoy lunch or dinner in the city of west Chester. Great out door seating and nice classy ambiance inside. As for the food it was good. Nothing really blew me away but I was not disappointed. Started with a great crab mango appetizer that was very tasty and not to filling. High quality crab meat. Also had the calamari that I probably would not get again. Was not good. For my entree I tried the lobster ravioli which was pretty good at best but I have definitely had better lobster ravioli elsewhere. After walking past this place for (seriously) decades, we finally made a reservation for a special date night and were pretty disappointed. Food wasn't anything to write home about- we got the calamari appetizer, Penne Alla Vodka and pork Milanese. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. I've had SO much better in the borough. The wine that I ordered with my meal came out with our check; long after we had finished eating. The table at which we sat was comically small, felt like we were eating at the children's table. I should have known when we were asked to upcharge our wine selection. The food was sub-par. To me bread can be an indication of how serious an establishment is about the quality of their food. I mean, bread is simple to get right - it wasn't. Moving to the entree - I've had red snapper many times and not once was it hard to cut and stringy! The description of the dish included mussels over top - there was not one in sight. Since it was a special of the evening I guess management felt they could upcharge that too -$58 AND reduce the portion to a 1/4 cup portion of flesh - disgraceful. When I explained my disappointment I asked the price to be cut in half (they really should have removed the cost entirely) but no, I was charged $27. That extra $3 must be important. Given the number of other restaurants Teca is competing with I would think they would do their best to offer quality food at reasonable prices. The Arancine was really good and we would definitely recommend it as a must try, especially if you've never had it before. The Capriccio was also super tasty and the highlight of the meal. The Cubano was great, and I recommend it, but it is a bit heavier because of all the meat. Not a complaint, but if you want light go with the Capriccio, and if you're feeling a nice heavy meal go with the Cubano. read more

But not anymore, the restaurant has the same nice vibe but the quality has hit an all time low while at the same time it's more expensive than ever! Last night my wife and I went to Teca our bill was $135, we had no drinks (doing dry January) 2 club soda's, one appetizer special, my wife had the chicken pasta special for $30 which was average best and the serving size was small, I had the fish special, Dover sole one of my favorites. I love Dover sole because it's supposed to be mild and sweet and not at all fishy if fresh. Unfortunately it wasn't fresh it had a distinct flavor of fish which was a huge disappointment considering they charged $58 for the dish! We were looking forward to a crab, mango, avocado appetizer but the crab no was no longer available- that dish now had shrimp. We had to ask for bread- it wasn't fresh. IF you are a party of 4 or less, be prepared to be seated in the CRAPAPALOOZA SECTION in the small, extra-crowded bar area. The smug thug at the hostess stand told me to see the Chaplin and have him punch my TOUGH S@#T card as they weren't about to move us to the quiet ONLY FOR PARTIES OF SIX section. Just our luck, LOUD Mr A-hole and his party getting drunk at the bar led the bleeding-in-your-ears decibel ATTACK on our hearing. I have NEVER in all my years been in a restaurant that was as loud as the old Vet stadium until last night. But at least at the Vet it was entertaining. Teca? Not so much. Now if the food somehow was sooooo amazing it might make up for the horrible dining experience, right? Wrong again Mr. Pretentious Italian Restaurant breath! The bruschetta was ok. The calamari had no squiggles. The pork Milanese was fair. The vodka penne was over sauced. My shrimp dish was ok. Bill was $200 for 4 people before tip. Service was acceptable. We WILL NOT return. I had lunch this week with a colleague at Teca. It was my first visit back to this restaurant since Covid. The waitress informed us of the lunch specials, all which sounded delicious. We both choose the lunch special Dover Sole. It was exactly what you'd expect, thin fish in a white wine sauce. Very tasty but it's Sole, so not mind blowing amazing. What was mind blowing was our bill. $48 per order of Dover Sole! Not lobster, not Chilean Sea Bass, Dover Sole! $120 for lunch with no drinks, just fish and an appetizer. I will never patronize this restaurant again. To put this into perspective, I had a dinner on the main line recently with drinks that didn't cost close to $120! I completely understand that the cost of food has increased along with everything else in our country right now. But come on Teca! At least tell your patrons the cost of your lunch specials in advance! You just lost a local customer that entertains clients on a regular basis. read more

We were walked through the rooms with great ambiance (and empty tables) to an upstairs back room that looked like the room should be used for storage - about on par with a cheap diner. BEWARE: Having just eaten at Teca and now reading the one star reviews, I now add my one star to this ever growing list. It's amazing that whoever owns this restaurant in this incredibly rich in quality and amazingly friendly service restaurant filled town, that this restaurant contines to always seem to be filled is astonishing. I went to the front desk to inform them of our reservation. The management had three people at the reservation desk, along with I assume was the manager; which made a total of four people. I've never seen four people at a restaurant reservation desk. I thought ok, they really want to make things run smoothly. We were seated at a table on the day they had tables in the street, which added to the volume of customers. Our waitress came over and told us about the specials. Two in my party order one of the specials, which by the way it would be courtesy to the customer to let them know the price. The reason I mention this is we had a piece of halibut on a bed of risotto. The size of the Halibut was about half the size of an envelope. And the cost of this small piece of fish was $48 which we found out only when the bill when given to me. From reading other reviews, this is standard operating procedure for the restaurant. Had they put the Halibut on the menu, with a printed insert or attachment to the menu, and the customer saw the price of $48 compared to the prices of the other entrees, this Owner would not be selling as many of these dishes. This in my opinion is fraud, and a calculated one in town where this sort of shoddy business practice I wouldn't have expected here. Is there a lawyer out there who's been suckered by this at Teca, So we had out order taken, and ten to fifteen minutes go buy and no one has brought us water as we requested. I notice a Busboy at another table filling everyone's water glass. I tell someone in my group who's closer to this person to try to get his attention when he's through filling up the waters. But then, this Busboy doesn't leave, and he's now just talking to everyone at this table. I'm thinking I've never seen a Busboy just start being so social with customers at one table holding a water pitcher in hand. But then the Busboy takes out his pad and is taking their orders. What? This is their waiter who first poured waters for all the customers at this one table, and now he has to hold a water pitcher and now take their order. That's odd. In fact so odd, that I weigh the situation, do I ask this other waiter for water for our table but he moves to quick and is gone. When our appetizers arrive, which included French fries, the level of oil absorbed by these potatoes, was something you'd aspect at a fast food restaurant. And the dipping sauce was in a container the size you see at a sports stadium, where you have to pump ketchup or mustard into those eyecup size paper cups. And then we wait and we wait for our main course. And then I notice some strange things. First, our Waitress is serving a table on the side walk area which is a completely different area where we are sitting. I point this out to the rest of my party and I say that the management here does not have enough waiters for all the amount of of tables (this was an evening where they filled the street with tables) they had. And then, this one as they say took the cake; I noticed another waitress who was trying ever so hard not to show that she had to things quickly while trying not to look so incredibly harried. She removed the dirty dishes just after the customers had left, nothing unusual about that. But then she took out spray bottle of WINDEX, and she started to spray the table. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. The Owner of TECA has their waitstaff clean their dinner table with Windex, with diners at the next table still eating just a few feet away and those airborne chemicals are not just staying only on this table. I found the following on a website that was concerned about indoor plants, and they are writing about the unhealthy chemicals Windex has on plants that might be by a window someone is using Windex to clean the glass. The Dangerous Components of Windex Known Ingredients * AMMONIUM HYDROXIDE. ... * Some Concern: skin irritation/allergies/damage, acute aquatic toxicity, respiratory effects, biodegradation; Disclosure Concern: non-specific ingredient. * HEXOXYETHANOL / LILIAL /C9-11 PARETH-3. ...HEXYL CINNAMAL. ... * TERPINEOL. These are all the effects that using Windex has on us, one might only guess, what kind of damage that it will have on plants. The component will not only kill bacteria but also take out the plant as well if spayed. That is why it is highly recommended not to use Windex on plants. = = = = = = This Owner should be ashamed of what he's doing to the people who work for him, and for his customers. The menu is certainly not cheap, plus I've had better Italian food at Domino's so you're better off going there to save your money! The food was far from the worse part of this experience though ... I politely approached two managers after we were given our bill to request they remove an item since the plate was not even touched because we sent it back because it looked that inedible. As opposed to politely apologizing and removing it or politely explaining why it was not removed..The "owner" tried to intimidate me by putting his face 2 inches from mine and aggressively stating "If you don't like it, then you can get the f**k out and don't ever f**king come back" - I really wish I was exaggerating that. And it doesn't stop there! I was so shocked by this, that I slowly backed away (also because I was very scared he may become physically aggressive and he is much bigger than me.) As I walked away from him to go back to my table out of fear, he proceeded to yell "F**k you" while giving me the middle finger. I was later told the man was the "owner" but I'd imagine he's more like the owner's son as no one with this amount of ignorance on how to run a business would be able to run a lemonade stand let alone a seemingly successful business. He's likely more of the "I can't get a job on my own so I'll ride daddy's coattails" type. We wanted to eat outside today and Teca was the best place that we saw on Gay St. I had two really great beers that our server Reed recommended and my wife had a dry Rośe that she really enjoyed. We also accepted his recommendation on pasta dishes and were blown away by the risotto and the lobster ravioli. The sauce that the ravioli came in was possibly the best sauce that I have ever tasted. There was foot traffic passing by our table for two, which allowed us to enjoy a couple puppy pets and some great people watching. Teca is a nice restaurant and bar. I prefer the outdoor on the street seating but inside is a small bar area and back around the corner is another larger bar with a TV and seating area, both of which are great hang out spots. I went into the big area to watch the Phillies as I was flying solo and just needed dinner and a drink. I decided on the Insalata di Calamari Grigliati which is grilled calamari sautéed in balsamic vinegar & extra virgin olive oil over mixed greens with cherry tomatoes. It was okay but tasted like it was burnt. Balsamic can be that way if you heat it up to much in my experience. So while it had a LOT of flavor, it was a bit like licking a grill. I'd pass on that next time. Honestly the bartender, who was very helpful, recommended the other calamari salad, and I've read on Yelp that the Insalata Teca Tonnata is good, but I had to do my own thing, so that's that. Anyway, Teca has a lot of beers on tap (Delirium Tremens?!), a top shelf selection of liquor, and a good cellar with some decent offerings by the glass. I happily went with the Malbec. I've been to Teca before and the food is generally very good. While I struck out on this dish, I'd go back for something else and recommend you give it a try too. read more

Haven't left a review in quite some time but felt Teca deserved one. We had a group of 15 for a combined birthday party. They put us in the back alongside the bar. It was a little tight due to winter clothing and gifts but that was the only draw back. I want to start by commending our server. She was fantastic! Our group showed up in a span of 45 minutes. She was on the spot as each group arrived taking drink orders and delivering them quickly. We did preordered appetizers for the tables. They were excellent and again served quickly. Cheese boards, meat boards, calamari, and octopus along with a the Shrimp napoleon. Everyone loved it. Plenty for our group who are big eaters! The entrees were also excellent. We all had something different. Everything from Chicken parm to the seafood specials to steak. All served perfectly timed and hot. The overall consensus of the group was 5 star. My first time to Teca and it was an excellent experience. We had reservations which is recommended since it seems to be the happening place in downtown West Chester. Despite the crowd, the service was great and the food was fantastic. I had the rigatoni that came with a meatball the size of my fist. My wife had the halibut with risotto which she finished.
