    Chai and Hungarian teacake
    Lauren F.

I had a lovely mug of hot chai and a Hungarian teacake here on a chilly winter day. The portions were generous, the chai had a good spice profile and wasn't too sweet, and the teacake was lovely and indulgent and full of jam. This was my first time visiting, and it's definitely tight quarters - it felt like everyone was fighting for tables, and I saw some people sitting on the sidewalk outside with their trays even in the cold weather. I would say to plan to take your order to go or fight to stake out a table. I haven't tried any of the hot food, but I would be back for tea and baked goods; I really enjoyed both as a little afternoon pick-me-up.

Teaism I love you! It feels great to walk into a tea spot that not only values tea (great and artisan collection to visit for a unique tea fix) but everything that comes with it. The ambiance is amazing, there is great light coming in from the tall windows on the lower floor, and a good antique windows on the upper floor. The building itself has a visible worn in history that feels comforting and lived in. It's a great place to study because wifi is provided and the seating is comfortable. Great for a hang out and prolonged stay when the eating and drinking selection is so great, its really a place you can come and order something new every time you come. I highly encourage taking in small bites so you can revisit the menu in a new way every time you visit. The food is so good. Its an American-Japanese fusion that interprets food in a new and interesting way. Seasoned miso mayo, pan Asian flavors (Korean included), bento box presentation, and delicious Hungarian pastry is some of my favorite details that can be found on the menu. Main dishes are warm, comforting, filling, and varied! Do not skimp on their drinks there is such a wide variety that ranges to tangy fruity to creamy and complex, see a Yuzu Butterfly Tea to their custom blend of rich spicy Chai. When you sit down dining, I love receiving my food on their unique dishware and ceramics. If you are there for a quick stop, the open kitchen and open small gifts in the front pair so well with what they offer permanently. Its well curated, comfortable, true to natural materials, and warm!

Teaism is always a solid choice for warm or iced tea, whole food small and large plates and their famous oat cookies. The new Boba are tasty and it's a great spot for a quick meal just off the tourist-packed Mall.

The inside of the shop is so cute and has a nice selection of teas, coffee, matcha, etc to choose from. We sat outside to enjoy our sweet coconut milk matcha lattes and enjoyed the nice view of the home nearby with beautiful tulips planted outside. The drinks themselves were so delicious--definitely one of the best matcha lattes I've ever had in the DMV! The barista was very patient with us as we weren't sure what to order at first.

Picked up some food to go from teaism after work and loved it! The restaurant itself is small but we sat outside and enjoyed our meal. I ordered the thai chicken curry which was flavorful and delicious. My only note is I wish it came with more rice for the amount of curry sauce, but nonetheless it was still great. I tried their classic milk tea with boba which was refreshing. It is more mild and less sweet than most milk teas I have had in the past, but it was still good. I ordered my food to go when I arrived and it was ready very quick - not even 10 minutes. I will definitely be back!

Lovely ambience, service, and food!! I loved all my savory dishes that I was served and especially loved their trash or treasure menu where they repurpose leftover ingredients that would otherwise go to waste! As someone who is passionate about sustainability, I thought this was awesome. Now as a dessert blogger (@sowmthingsweet on IG) I'm a bit more picky with my sweets. I enjoyed a handful of what I tried but some weren't my personal favorite. I highly recommend the masala chai (transported my back home to India) & French toast!! Here is my full review below: Sowmthing Sweet - French Toast, Single Slice ($7): Last dessert I tried, but took 1st place in my ranking. The bread was crunchy on the outside, soft & soaked on the inside. LOVED the stewed fruit on the side. - Matcha Affogato w Dolcezza ice cream ($8.50): SO good. Not usually a fan of matcha bc it can taste too earthy, but this was so delish & paired well with the vanilla ice cream. - Hungarian Tea Cake ($5): Took me by surprise, bc it looks deceptively simple but flavors were spot on! Jasmine Creme Brulee ($6): Lovely subtle flavor, the sugar layer was a bit thick & the filling could've been a bit more silky, but yummy nonetheless! - Chunky Choc & Pecan Salty Oat Cookie, made by @kayak cookies ($3 ea.): Super crumbly & tasted closer to a biscotti/granola. Yummy, & fun texture that reminded me of Sandies cookies (IYKYK). - Hojicha Cheesecake ($6): Flavor was subtle, but the texture was not my favorite; felt a bit overcooked. Mains - Broccoli Tots ($6.50, VEG): LOVED THESE. Outright delish with the goat cheese togarashi dip & also bc the concept of this item is to repurpose veggies that go to waste- these were made w broccoli stems! - Salmon Okonomiyaki ($16.50): The cabbage pancake was so crispy on the outside & the salmon was flakey, pairing perfectly with the creamy sweet topping. - Thai Chicken Curry ($16.50): I love a good curry & this was solid. Loved that the rice was already soaked in the curry because it absorbed a lot of flavor. The veggie skewer added a nice charred flavor. - Spicy Glass Noodles & Tofu ($16): less flavorful than the other dishes but liked how packed it was with veggies; great veg dish! - Sweet Potato w Miso Sauce ($5): Always love a good boiled sweet potato but lacked a bit of salt. Drinks - Masala Chai: Felt like home. Well spiced, & cozy - Star of Africa & Yunnan Gold tea: fruity & black tea (delish)

Teaism Dupont has been one of my favorite spots for years! While I used to get their classic bubble tea (a fantastic choice), I decided to try one of their brews to change things up. The restaurant itself is a gorgeous and provides great indoor/outdoor seating. I was able to enjoy a Iced Darjeeling Tea on a Thursday afternoon in September and had a lovely time soaking in the sun with my refreshing drink. The tea was flavorful and paired well with the crystalized sugar I added in. The service was top notch with my cashier explaining all the types of tea they offered, its origin, and a bit of history on how it is brewed. So kind and welcoming! Great spot for work from home days or to catch up with a friend. I am excited to try their menu items on my next visit!

Teaism Dupont Circle Washington, DC I am not a great cook and I get too tired of eating the same old thing day in and day out so I decided to try something new after leaving my acupuncture session today. Well, needless to say the creamy curry spinach with cheese cubes and brown rice made my day.

The tea and other beverages are all very tasty. The Boba tea was not too sweet and had very delicious tasting jasmine Boba. The food was ready very quickly and tasted delicious. convenient location near Dupont Circle. It is always pretty busy inside just FYI.

I came here with some friends during peak cherry blossom weekend, and we were able to order at the counter and grab a seat despite the throngs of people outside. They have a downstairs area with a little pond that was very cute and peaceful. I wanted something light, so I ordered the matcha filled croissant with raspberry jam and a mango juice, but I also tasted the food my friends got. I am not the biggest fan of matcha, but the matcha cream was really tasty! It tasted less earthy and more like concentrated green tea (I love green tea). The raspberry jam was high quality and the flavors worked very well together. The croissant was good. The mango juice kickstarted a month-long mango juice craving for me because it tasted like liquid mango. The other food standouts for me would have to be the chicken curry and the french toast. The french toast especially; it was crispy on the outside and came with stewed apples. I wish I had gotten a slice for myself. If I am in the area I will absolutely come back.

Okonomiyaki with fried egg and chicken sausage
    Karyn M.

We stopped in this tea house after a morning spent at the O Museum. You order at a kiosk or the counter and wait until your number is called. There is some seating against the wall and more up a flight of stairs. I ordered okonomiyaki (cabbage pancake) with a fried egg and chicken sausage. My companions ordered another okonomiyaki pancake and the other ordered salmon ochazuke- Japanese rice & tea soup made with Hojicha green tea. My pancake was as large as the plate, but warm and crisp and the cabbage was tender, with flavorful sauces on top. I did not like the sausage. My friend loved the ochazuke - the salmon was perfect and the hot tea was the wonderful flavoring. There is a great tea selection- although I chose a boba - which was only one flavor - black tea although I did enjoy the chewy boba. I also would like to try the oat cookies they are well known for -- next time I guess. We enjoyed the food very much. I did not like the setup at all where you have to ascend steep stairs holding your heavy food-laden tray to the upper level of seating. I also did not like that the bathroom was almost in the kitchen and that mops and cleaning supplies are almost on the grill.

Such a cool tea spot!! I've never been to Japan but if this is the vibes I get. They also sell food, which smelled amazing. The boba was fresh and the tea was perfection. Loved it!
