I have been looking forward to the opening of the new TeaDM for a while. I love the drinks at the Falls Church location, so I was excited for this Vienna, which is closer to my home. I lovelovelove the TeaDM franchise because they stay pretty consistent throughout their locations. TeaDM is my go-to in the DMV area and the only boba shop I've found that is worth coming back for. They offer a big selection of drinks ranging from milk teas, sea salt teas, coffee, fruit drinks and even allow the option to make your own drink. One thing I especially love about this location is that they have an incredible rewards system - I find myself racking up rewards more often than not! I don't know what it is about their rewards system compared to the other location but I rack up points so much more easily here, which is why I visit this location way often despite it being farther from me than the Falls Church one. Their green tea sea salt drink is a very good (maybe even better) replica of the Ding Tea green tea cheese foam drink. It is the perfect amount of sweetness and so rich that it coats your mouth with a film; this is applies to all other drinks that include sea salt foam as an ingredient. If that's something that is too overwhelming for you, then I recommend just getting regular milk tea. On the other hand, if you like fruity drinks, then you won't be disappointed by their options. I like anything that has mango, Passionfruit, lychee, rose, or strawberry! That's just my preference, so try out whatever sounds good to you! Keep in mind that their fruit drinks do run less sweet than you might be used to, so I recommend getting light or no ice if you want the perfect level of sweetness. When I get regular ice, my drink waters down so quickly that I can barely taste the flavors in my drink - but that would probably be one of the only cons of TeaDM. Another thing is that their boba can also be inconsistent. I used to get annoyed with all the ice they put in the coffee, but it's bc they make it thicc (possibly due to condensed milk in Viet coffee?) and after the ice melts a bit, the consistency and flavor is perfect, not watery or heavy. So if you're in a rush to drink it I suggest you order ahead and give it time to sit so when you pick it up, it's ready to sip. They offer a variety of fruity teas, milk teas (lavender is delicious), as well as a few smoothies, but I always stick to our go-to. Like most places, you can adjust the sweetness and ice levels and they have multiple topping options. As of now they do not have any hot drinks. Since we had a great experience at TeaDM in Seven Corner, we went there vs going to other bubble tea places as our special treat for weekend only. We were extremely disappointed! All 3 of our bubble tea drink was only 80% filled and they ran out of bubbles!! It was also taking awhile as we watch the person trying to search for remaining bubbles at the bottom of the container, scooping at least 10x trying to find bubbles. But instead of telling us they ran out bubbles or going back to ask for more, they give us just the remainder little bit. TeaDM is not like it used to be, which deserved a 5 star in the past. Now it's a 2 star, but since they focus on boba and often fail at delivering on it, some would say it's only a 1 star. Three times now I've ordered from them and they have run out of boba, and one time was before the pandemic started. Imagine a pizza place running out of cheese, a taco place running out of tortillas, or chick fil a running out of chicken. It shouldn't happen (not aware of boba shortage during Covid). The last time I went, they had boba but I noticed that the boba was (1) less than the usual amount (I shaked my icy avolcano like I usually do - took 4 pulls from the straw before getting a single boba), (2) smaller, not as puffy as before, and (3) harder at the center as if it was a day old. TeaDM is no longer worth the trip, and now feels like ordering bubble tea at a restaurant. TeaDM uses non-dairy creamer. While the server reassured me that non-dairy options were vegan, I still experienced a mild allergic reaction after consuming a strawberry milk tea drink. I highly suspect lactose is present in the non-dairy creamer. Non-dairy does not necessary mean dairy-free. Many commercial non-dairy creamers still contain dairy byproducts. Back in 2017, Kungfu Tea in Reston used to advertise non-dairy milk as vegan-friendly until a manager and I checked the nutrition label. Most likely TeaDM uses a similar non-dairy creamer. Note: I am plant-based due to allergies to animal products. Also, some TeaDM toppings may have honey and gelatin. I am having major trust issues here. read more
