This is a my favorite açaí bowl place hands down, no exceptions. The mosaic district location will always have a special place in my heart as it is my og spot however there are plenty of other locations within the region. It isn't too too spacious in there, more for a grab and go. Luckily, there is a lot of outdoor seating here and around the mosaic area to eat at if you wanted to consume it right away. My favorite bowl is the nutella açaí bowl but you genuinely cannot go wrong with any other options. It is always loaded to the brim and the best bang for your buck. I say that everytime I pass one and I think that manifested locations being built wherever I go cuz I went to one in Ocean city and then they opened one where I went to college and also at Mosaic haha. If you like Acai Bowls or just the idea of eating a delicious bowl of fruits, grains, and anything that's filled with nutrients this is the place for you. I will not lie that the Menu is extensive and overwhelming. However I am basic and will order the easiest thing to start off with so I ended up getting the Tropical Acai Bowl. It contains Bananas, Pineapple, Coconut Flakes, and Nutella topped with Granola. A perfect snack for the summer. The bowl was quick, refreshing, and not too sweet. The service from the staff was very quick as I got my bowl in minutes and ready to go. I can come back here at any time of the year and I would still be impressed because the food is that good. It's located across the street from the Target garage entrance with indoor and outdoor seating. Their menu is extensive. I ended up ordering the Electric Mermaid based on a prior Yelp review. It's made of a pitaya (dragonfruit) base topped with blueberry flax granola, pineapple, mango, kiwi, coconut flakes, and honey. The serving size looks small at first glance, but it's pretty filling. I've lived here in the district for over 3 years now. Been visiting this location pretty often. For a long while, this was a daily treat. The service has always been great. I started using the website to preorder. The staff are usually friendly and helpful. I like the music and friendly environment. The bowls are a delicious treat. For a while now, I've notice my bowl has changed. The crunchy granola topping is now on the bottom of my bowl. I've mentioned it a few times only for employees to say we've always done it this way!! I don't believe this is true. I've been a patron of this place for as long as I've lived in the mosaic district. My point is that if the granola goes on the bottom it may as well be mush because it won't stay crunchy. I was also told I can request it be on top when placing my order. I'd truly like to know which way is correct or is there no right way? Maybe I'm bad with change. I dunno, but I won't be going back. Additionally, I don't like how the app and the website differ. Unique style of bowls that you don't really see anyplace else in the area. You can pick one of their bowls with bases such as coconut, acai, greens, banana, and oatmeal just to name a few. Then you can add your toppings. You can also choose a pre-selected bowl off their menu. That's what I did and tried the Cobo Berry bowl which is coconut topped with granola, blueberry, strawberry and honey. The coconut is frozen which gives it almost a frozen yogurt texture and went prefectly with the fruit and granola. The portion is a good size, but this place is expensive and expects the dreaded "voluntary" tip on top of that so definitely plan to spend $15 or more. Service was friendly and fast, the tropical themed place is pretty small inside and we ate at one of the tables outisde. I enjoyed it here and will come back. Personally, it seems like a warm weather destination so I'm not sure I'd want it in the winter but others might disagree. read more

Came here after a Saturday morning bike ride on WOD. Got to try their power açaí bowl. There was a 10% off on Yelp. There was no line around 11:30. Inside is nicely decorated to look like a tropical place with a lot of pineapples, bananas, and coconut milk. The service was really nice and the bowl was made quickly. Service today was very frustrating. There was 5 people working when I came in and the guy on register was clearly new and did not fully know how to use the computer, he obviously needed help but yet didnt ask for help until he'd been searching the computer for like 5 minutes. It took almost 7 minutes just for my order to even be finished because he didn't know what he was doing. I ordered a bowl, which has a pre made base, all I got was a 2 fruits on it and some drizzle. Cannot believe it took 20 minutes for something that should take 5. The wait time was absolutely ridiculous considering there was 5 people working. After waiting 20 minutes for my bowl they forgot to put bananas on it and he had to take it back and put them on, and then when I went to eat it there was blueberries throughout the base, which it doesn't come with, and I get nauseous eating, so not sure how those got in there. I work in customer service so I can understand long wait times but this was worse than anything l've seen and the staff has terrible communication. I wish Playa Bowls was around when I lived in Mosaic District because I'd probably be here every day (although my stomach would be happy, my wallet wouldn't be!). The decor inside the shop is super cute and tropical themed! Think palm leaves, pineapples, bananas, and tikis. I felt transported to a beach town walking in from a suburbia town center. We've tried their acai, pitaya, chia, and green bowls from their menu and have enjoyed each and every one that we've tried. My favorite is the Electric Mermaid (pitaya) and my husband likes the Power acai bowl. The ratio of toppings and bases are just right and it's more than enough to have as a meal. I've only ordered their bowls so I can't speak for their smoothies but I'm sure that they're just as equally delicious! Let me know tell you: they surely knew what they were doing when they put a Playa Bowls in Mosaic District! Popped into this location for a quick bowl and was happy to beat the mid-day lunch rush. I recently tried their cold brew latte (new orleans style)- I did not expect it to taste the way that it did. It was also more of a smoothie than it is a latte just for those wondering. P.S it contains banana and that threw me off. I don't think I really liked it that much. But, this place does literally have the best smoothie bowls. This is a very welcome addition to Mosaic, as acai bowls are one of those trendy foods that haven't quite caught on in terms of mass distribution around DC. (Unlike cupcakes, frozen yogurt, etc. in their primes.) I loved the wide variety of choices here and seeing that everything was pulled together fresh. I ordered a banana protein acai bowl with vanilla instead of chocolate protein supplement. It hit the spot for ice cream I was craving but without as much guilt! 8/18/21 After eating at Urbano on August 8th, we checked out Playa Bowls in Mosaic Center in Fairfax.  The place was pretty crowded,  but a majority of people there were wearing face masks. This is nice to see. Especially since the 6 feet social distancing was none existant.  Playa Bowls had smoothies, Acai Bowls options and soda like drinks. I was still full from eating at Urbano so I didn't order any smoothies or acai bowls.  I went with an orange flavored sparkling soda can instead.  The drink was okay and satisfied me dessert craving. From what I saw, most people took their food to go.  There isn't many places to sit and eat in the store.  Since it was a bright and sunny day, eating outside was a welcoming experience.  The two tables that are in the store are in the shape of surfboards.   We sat and waited at one of the tables, but the tables did need a disinfecting.    I saw another customer had the same expression on her face that I must have had.  They too did not sit at that table for to long.  I did ask an associate if they had any sanitizer or spray sanitizer and was told "they don't have it."  Not good. The bathroom on the other hand was nice and clean.  The bathroom had a tropical feel to it like the restaurant.    Not sure when we will be back, but when I do, I am likely to try out one of their Acai Bowls. read more
