Avocado Toast & Iced Oatmilk Latte
    Delana A.

My go-to spot for quality coffee & açai bowls ! They always have great service, it can be a little slow at times, though. They don't have cold brew, but their espresso is pretty strong! The acai bowls are better priced than Smoothie King or another chain, and to me, they taste a lot better. I tried the avocado toast & they did let me know that the toast is pretty small, but I was still a little surprised at how small it was & how little topics they put in it after I received it. It was decent, but I wouldn't order it again. Anything else on the menu, you can't go wrong :)

    Mini açaí warrior bowl

I was craving an açaí bowl this morning and thought I'd stop in this spacious (9:35am) restaurant. They had a nice selection, even seasonal choices like pumpkin for the fall. I wanted to try the mini warrior bowl, and I really liked it: with the fresh strawberries, blueberries, banana and granola. Really hit the spot this morning and I loved the healthy filling breakfast. The mini was perfect for me. I will definitely come back! So good and refreshing!

    Mermaid Bowl

When I initially heard about South Block, I thought it was going to be an overpriced açaí bowl place... but it's a great açaí bowl place! I come here every so often after work as it's less than a 10 minute walk from the East Falls Church metro station. I've had multiple items at this location, but my favorite is the Mermaid bowl. I initially picked it because I like the color blue, but it's so tasty and filling! The coconut meshes well with the fruit and the crunchiness of the granola and seeds that's in it. Fruit is average but is refreshing. Love the mango banana combo that's blended in this. $12 for this bowl and I'm always full after it! It's pretty empty when I come so never worry about seating. People tend to take things to go here. Utensils are durable and packaging is nice. Employees are friendly! Sometimes, it takes a while for the items to be made... but I typically only see two people working there at a time so it makes sense. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants a smoothie or açaí bowl. May seem overpriced but I think it's worth it.

    Nutella bowl

Love love love South Block! The açaí bowls are so refreshing! It's a great post workout meal or something to eat on a regular day. Everything is fresh and made to order. I usually get the PB&J bowl but this time I got the Nutella bowl. The Nutella bowl is like a dessert. It was really refreshing and I loved the Nutella on top of the strawberries and bananas. The açaí base was thick and not watery so it does not melt quickly. The granola was AMAZING! I think it's my favorite part of the layerings. It's nutty, crunchy, sweet but not too sweet. It's also gluten and dairy free. The fruits were fresh. It was a perfectly balanced bowl. Each scoop had the açaí base, granola, fruit and Nutella. Besides açaí bowls, they also offer juices, smoothies, bowls without an açaí base, avocado toast and dog friendly treats/bowls. There is a underground menu which I have yet to try! Also, if you're every in a rush/ on the go, you can place an order online. Note: Cashless business

So happy to report that South Block is up and running during the pandemic. Regular updates are provided to their mailing list about their COVID19 precautions, specials, and community service efforts (especially to essential workers and first responders these days!) Takeout and delivery is going fairly well. This was our third or fourth time in the past two months we've gone for pick-up/takeout. Staff at the register were masked, and orders nicely bagged. Smoothies and bowls were divine, as always. Happy to support this fantastic local business (still hoping they branch out into Maryland!)

Not a mini or split bowl...
    Jessica P.

I love south Block and come here at least 3 times a week. I always usually order the PBJ bowl split in half. But today and the other day the split bowl/ mini bowl is not even half full. At least at the Falls Church location... disappointing

    $10 Bottle of Juice
    David H.

I was thirsty from walking the W & OD Trail and stopped to get a bottle of juice from the fridge. The price wasn't marked and I turned out to be almost $10! I was really thirsty and it was tasty and hand pressed but not $10 good. They have some interesting food and drink options and I might come back and check them out but that bottle of juice was a little too rich for me.

This is my first time trying an Acai Bowl ever, so I didn't know what to expect. Staff was friendly and great! I ordered the PB&J Bowl. I thought it was good! I just wish there were more blueberry, banana, and granola, but then again is Acai Bowls supposed to be mainly the "liquid"? I don't know what I'm talking about here.. but its just a personal preference for me. This was a HUGE filler for me. This order got me full for most of the day. Can someone explain to me why the prices seem too expensive? I would like to understand and change my mindset that this place overcharges. BUT I would recommend this place to the Yelpers out there. Ps. I took my order home, so when you see my photos, it was not taken at the cafe.

    Lianna N.

Tried some of the smoothies and cold pressed juices here while I was on vacation and my brother was living in the connected apartments. While the prices are alarmingly high for a midwest gal like me ($2-3 more per drink) They were good and I suppose the prices do mimic the high end places in my own city. They have a lot of selection and will not let you down with choices of smoothies and smoothie bowls. Expect to spent around $8-10 for your treat though. I think they especially kill it since they are next to purrebarre and an apartment. I recommend the watermelon and mango smoothies, and the green cold pressed juice.

Ask the Community - South Block

Would this be a good spot to meet a friend to study together? On a Sunday afternoon?

I like to save my studying for coffee shops. The Arlington location is small and not that spacious to spread out. It also can get busy very fast. As for the Del Rey, there is a lot more open space and seating. But I agree that unless you like… Read more

They have a huge selection of drinks, all based on their freshly made sugarcane juice. It was delightful -- not too sweet, with notes of honey and an almost floral-like flavor. At $7 a cup, it was definitely pricey, but pretty reasonable for the area as I've also seen plenty of cafes and boba shops charge similar prices for lower quality drinks. The staff was super friendly, and I love that they had one of their juicing machines right next to the register. It was really fun to watch them work, and the machine spit out all the extra sugar cane skins / peelings into a giant wooden bucket that you could take from. The sugarcane had a great aroma, and the peelings are a fun way to keep kids entertained.

I'm so glad I decided to stop in. The fresh-pressed cane juice was incredibly refreshing and definitely worth it!

This spot was a few doors down from where we had lunch, so I decided to check them out. I saw they had matcha, but no options without milk. So I asked the cashier if I could get an iced matcha made with water instead of milk. I will pay for a version with milk, but I only wanted matcha, water, and the toppings. No milk, no dairy subs, no sweetness. She said she could do this in slush form. I asked what that meant and she said it's just like a slushie made with ice. That's sounded fine so I said go ahead. I got he receipt above, so I made sure to confirm there is no milk, no sugar. Just the matcha, water, and toppings, right? She said yes, so I went over to the seating area to wait. I figured the 10% sweetness and whole milk was something they had to enter into the system for that drink and they made notes to correct it to what I wanted. When I got the drink, it was a milky green, so I was super confused. I asked again, this has no milk and added sweetness, and they said yes. At that point I felt annoying, so I just left with the drink. Unfortunately it did taste milky / creamy so I didn't finish it. The toppings were good tho. It was unfortunately since I really wanted a matcha. I just don't like milk or cream in my teas or coffees. For the milk teas and drinks like that, I'm sure this spot is probably great. I know my request is rather odd for a boba tea spot, so maybe they misunderstood that I just wanted a matcha tea with toppings. I did tip them a dollar on top since they were really nice. But I just wish I got what I ordered. REVIEW #3885

We visited around the same time as the Westover Farmers Market, so the inside was a bit packed. However, my friend's order had a longer wait time despite being the same drink with only the milk substituted. We eventually asked the staff if the order was still coming through--they were very sweet, apologized for the wait, and quickly prepared the order. Unsure if maybe the order got lost in the shuffle, or perhaps someone else accidentally grabbed it, but it was nice that they quickly resolved the issue once it became known to them. The drink was okay, which I was fine with because the main appeal was supposed to be the Halloween-themed design. I realized too late that my drink didn't come with the chocolate syrup drizzled on top that others' did, which was unfortunate. The cafe was beautifully decorated, and it's clear that there was a lot of thought and heart put into the design. The shop was also nice to check out, with a great collection of items with a nice mission and message behind each product. However, it is a bit tight to go through the aisles when it is busy. I hope to visit again during a less crowded time to check out other seasonal treats they may have in the future!
