This was my first açaí bowl experience! This store is located inside of the GW gym, so it was pretty small and the seating area was limited. There were a lot of students doing an online order, so it did take a long time to get my order. I ordered the warrior bowl and it was great! I liked how it wasn't overly sweet but more fruity, so it was perfect to eat on a hot day like today. Portion sizes were also pretty big. My husband and I wanted a smoothie as a light dinner. First thing the smoothie shop is in the GW university gym so you have to give them your drivers license until you leave. The smoothie bar has a lot of clean options. I got the super green smoothie which was so tasty and not too sweet. I could taste the kale, but it wasn't overpowering. My husband had the peanut blast smoothie which was tasty as well. However after taking a few sips of my smoothies I noticed it was very hard to drink. I opened the cup and saw that it was not blended well at all. I had large chunks of banana and mango just sitting in the smoothie. This was disappointing as someone recommended this place to me and we walked a couple of miles just to visit. I would definitely go back as I see the potential I just think someone was not paying attention. read more

Points of clarification: If you're not a GWU student you need to bring a PHOTO ID. An ID without a photo will not be accepted at the front gate. Each guest in the party must have a photo ID. If a gust is a minor, their accompanying legal guardians ID will suffice. Service animals are allowed in the building but emotional support animals and other pets are not. Smoothies are great. Today, I tried South Block at GWU and I was not disappointed. I ordered the warrior bowl, an açaí bowl with organic açaí, bananas, strawberry, & pineapple juice -- topped with granola, strawberries, blueberries & bananas. It was delicious, I have a new found love for açaí bowls so since there's one close to work, I'm super excited. The only downfall is that South Block is technically on GWU campus and doesn't open until 10am, the times are adjusted for students and not working professionals in the area. It would be nice if South Block opened at 8/9am so that I could grab it for breakfast and not lunch. But that's minor. All in all, good stuff, next I want to try a smoothie! read more

No real vibes going on here to lounge about as it is pretty much set up for grab and go. Service is okay, but rather dry and a bit sloppy. I find that the packaged food options aren't the best and overpriced so go elsewhere for food (like the Whole Foods just steps away). Yummy drinks and bowls, with great service located just up the stairs from the entrance. (And they take Gworld!) If you're not a GW student, no worries! Just have your ID on you to enter. I always get the large power smoothie (SOOO GOOD) with extra whey protein for about $10. Slightly pricey imo, but that seems to be the norm with these kinds of things. My only complaint is that they don't open until 10am (or noon on Sundays), which is pretty inconvenient for getting protein after my 7am workouts. read more

Great smoothies and vegan options, love the PBJ bowl. However, the service is a miss. Today it took 16 minutes for my smoothie to be ready with only 2-3 people ahead of me in line. This location consistently takes forever and serves people out of order with no clear reasoning. Also, every time I ask for smoothie "for here" in a glass reusable bowl instead of the plastic cup, they mess up and give me the plastic container anyway. I am a big fan of south block but this location is extremely slow. There were approximately three employees making smoothies but only one making the bowls/putting the toppings on. This created a significant wait in which people who ordered smoothies were served first even if they ordered afterward. This review is based solely on the tangy yogurt (and a little on the smoothies.) For any fools who don't go to GW, you are SOL because you need an ID to get in. This is the best kept secret for tangy yogurt. It is cheap and really good. I think they actually put too much mix in the machine so it is always really strong. Plus, they give you a shit-ton. Their menu has expanded (it now includes the AMAZING Magic Dragon Bowl, which I highly recommend) & their efficiency is superb. Although I know work by the Union Market South Block (which is also great), this place will always hold a special place in my heart (& my tummy!) South Block sells one of the best açaí bowls I've ever had. I love the warrior bowl, with an açaí base, blueberries, strawberries, banana, and granola. I also love adding chia seeds and a little bit of fresh honey on mine. Keeps me full for hours, even though I finish it in a matter of minutes. The fruit is always fresh, and the granola is some of the best I've had. The smoothie base is also a perfect consistency and doesn't have too much ice. It's almost already a little melted by the time you get it, which I personally like. The textures all work together really well, and the small bowls are packed with flavor!
