After some dental work and instructions to "eat soft foods" I was craving a green smoothie. Yelp led me here. They had remote ordering and paying on screen. I got the same super green smoothie two days in a row. The first one was too thick and had ginger in it. The second one I talked to an actual person and was able to ensure no ginger and to add a little more pineapple juice . It was perfect. I would like to try the bowls. Pretty hopping place! So glad it is near me. read more

I wouldn't say "perfect" but close enough. (Acai) Warrior Bowl was great! No complaints on taste. I added extra toppings, which made the bowl extra full, but even without my extra toppings, this was hard to eat in one bowl. You have to dump the toppings in something to be able to get to the smoothie part. It's nice that it's full but it's too full (even without my additional toppings). Just make sure to get an extra top and dump your toppings in there to get down to the bottom! Avocado toast was good! The avocado was super creamy. The sprouted bread was pretty basic, so I would've appreciated a better bread. It wasn't bad, it just didn't make this bread worth the price. I would definitely come back! read more

This is one of my favorite açaí bowl places. This particular location took much longer than the others I been to. It was very busy, but still seemed to have slower service than what's reasonable. Make sure you check the kiosks and the website for menus. For some reason, they don't display the whole menu in the store. My bowl was very good read more

I love South Block, and consider myself to be a loyal, regularly returning customer. It's a bit pricy, but I've almost always felt the cost was justified. I'd consider it to be a "treat-yourself" kind of place. Today I tried the Boost Juice for the first time, and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was! read more

My friend insisted on getting an acai bowl out of nowhere even though she's never had one before. There's smoothie places around the area, but not all of them have acai. So we stumbled into South Block. My friend got the warrior bowl. It was a bit too sweet in my opinion. I got the super green smoothie. I'm surprised the kiosk had almond milk as a potential substitute for pineapple juice. I never thought of them as alternatives to each other. I didn't want my smoothie to be too sweet and I wanted the protein and fat in it. I think the end result was a bit weird when you mix kale and spinach with almond milk, but it wasn't weird in an unpleasant way. I was also surprised to see the kiosk offer ginger as an optional add on for this smoothie. Again, it's something I wouldn't have thought of requesting myself. I've always been told it's good to add ginger to raw foods to reduce the "coldness", so I clicked yes here. I don't think I taste the ginger in the smoothie, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it's in there. I appreciate how they have chia seeds and honey for you to add on the side. They fill up the bowl/cup up to the rim for everyone, so not sure how people are expected to have space to add things lol (that's a good trait). read more

Service- took over 10 mins for an order so don't come here if you are in a rush like me to catch my flight. I came to this location because it is near the airport, however, parking is a bit difficult unless you want to pay a hefty price. However, the delicious bowl was worth the wait and I'm glad I waited to get it! They make each bowl fresh and you can customize or add as many toppings as you want! Although the indoor area was a bit small, the outdoor area was pleasant to chill and eat my tasty bowl!! I'll be back next time I'm in the area to try the other fruit bases/bowls! read more

Second time here. First time I got a kids strawberry banana smoothie. That was pretty good. This time around I got a detox juice and a recovery shot. I'm a sucker for those shooters. Love the Nutella bowl! Always a solid and double the size compared to other açaí bowl franchises!

First time trying South Block and it was yummy!! Everything on the menu looked great. I had the Green Bowl and added pineapple, agave and raw honey. Perfect for a sweet treat break after a summer weather stroll in the city The wait wasn't too bad either! I enjoyed that there was plenty of seating; perfect for catching up with a friend! read more

One of my consistent favorites in the neighborhood. While I've gotten their toasts and other items before, I keep going back to their PBJ bowl. Not too sweet and with a nice crunch of granola, it's always a delicious meal! I'll also note that having tried other chains, South Block is definitely my favorite açaí bowl chain. Any others I've tried have been far too sweet and don't always blend in ingredients like peanut butter. You rock, South Block, don't ever change! read more

I've been coming to SB before they were hyped up, this location fits right in with the brand. Açaí bowls are my absolutely favorite!!!! I grew up eating it in Brazil, and missed it so much after I moved to the United States, because I couldn't find it anywhere... I was so freaking excited when I heard about South Block! As soon as I heard, they had Açaí bowls I ran to grab one and oh my God it did not disappoint, it is different from the one you get in Brazil but I love it, the aqua bowl is my favorite with the coconut shred, strawberries, blueberries and granola on top, my favorite blend is either coconut water or almond milk. I could have one every single day and not get tired of it so glad this place exist! Delicious and nutritious!! read more

I think the açaí bowl I had was very overpriced and it didn't taste good. I ordered the PB&J bowl and it was very underwhelming. I also added in some extra toppings that I paid for, but didn't receive. I thought the presentation of the bowl looked sloppy and unappealing. I wouldn't return to south block. I think smoothie king's bowls are much better. read more

Stephanie and Omar immediately made me feel welcome! I was so annoyed I couldn't find my $5 bday coupon and they were so patient while I dug through emails. Then I wondered if it may be associated with my account and immediately he jumped on it and said yes! lets check ! And he found it! I wasn't aware this location doesnt have their hot drinks service (makes sense with TWO compass coffee's bookending them!) so I asked if they had any matcha based smoothie and immediately we were able to find something and tweak it to my preference. THEN Stephanie ask if I wanted oat whipped cream... I don't eat oat based products as I have some digestion issues with it... BUT I thought ok a little whipped cream could be nice.... Came for an açaí bowl and got "not an açaí bowl" xD The green bowl seems like a healthy alternative but as some of the other reviewers have mentioned, the smoothie is quite tasteless. The green bowl has ginger, but the flavor I tasted was more turmeric? Regardless it was an overpowering taste. Docked a star for their extremely slow service. By service I mean their internal process of creating these bowls. It's lunch time in a business district and these employees work like high school students on summer vacay, cutting bananas at snail speed. Open kitchen seems like a great concept until you're advertising to all your customers how you don't hire competent kitchen staff. read more

I've been here a few times. It's a nice place to grab a smoothie or a treat. I think I liked the smoothie better than the açaí bowls. The toppings are what make the açaí bowls, because the açaí itself has absolutely no flavor which was surprising. I do think the price of the bowls are pretty high for $14 after tax. I will say they do give you a large portion and everything is fresh, but considering I can get an whole meal for this price, i don't buy frequently. I can't say much about the service as it's mostly iPad kiosks that you order from. The wait time is usually about 15 minutes. Overall, i won't be visiting the location frequently because of the price but the smoothies and açaí are okay! read more

I will never pay $9 for a bottle of juice, no matter how amazing it tastes or how great the health benefits are. But if they're knocked down to $5 per bottle because the "best by" date is the day of? I'd be willing to treat myself to a bottle here and there. My friends and I tried the following three bottles and here were our thoughts: * Glow Juice - pretty fruity and sweet and satisfied my fruit craving of the morning. I can definitely taste the tartness of pineapple along with the soothing flavor of aloe. This was a pretty mainstream tasting juice - nothing wacky or out of the ordinary. Would definitely cop another bottle if it was $5. * Cure Juice - there is a nice spicy kick (from the cayenne) to this drink along with a strong carrot taste. Honestly? I didn't think I'd like carrot juice but this one surprisingly tasted great! I can also pick out the ginger in this juice as well. This one is definitely a unique drink and would recommend it if you want to try something different! Would buy again if it was $5. * Incredible Mylk - Never thought I would see nor try a teal colored juice, but hey, today's the day! Initially, I found this drink really weird, but it's an acquired taste. I can pick out the cashew and cinnamon flavors very distinctly and they make a surprisingly good combo. I definitely grew to like this drink more. Sadly, one of my friends got a bad stomachache afterwards and claims that it's from this smoothie, but I really think it was the lunch he had. Again, would probably buy if it was on sale for $5. Overall, it was good to try these juices! I would probably never pay for a bottle at full price, but definitely worth a try when they're on sale! read more

The acai bowl tastes good. I think the price is a bit high for what you got in size and variety (it's higher than a lot of LA's acai places). They didn't even fill it to the surface of the bowl. Good quality bowl of acai anyway! Location was clean and easy to find. Nothing exceptional but nothing unacceptable either. Good buy for acai in the area. read more

I have been going to the South Block chain since they opened the first location in Clarendon years ago. I have moved around a bit in the Arlington area and this location is now the one most convenient for me. I agree with the general sentiment that the açaí itself doesn't taste like anything at all. The warrior bowl is my go to order, and the majority of the bowl is flavorless, and you must mix the ingredients to boost the overall taste. That being said, I love the Warrior Bowl/ this general chain for my açaí needs because the mix-ins are THAT good - the granola is superior to any I've ever tasted and the organic honey and fruit are delicious. The fruit is also extremely fresh, which is a big plus and can't be assumed to be so, even at smoothie joints. My only critical feedback is similar to everyone else's: while I agree south block is the best, the wait times are slow and the majority of the bowl, on its own, is flavorless. Maybe speed up service and put some more flavor in that açaí! read more

I really wish their acai bowls were cheaper because I love them I used to go here all the time and was always greeted with a smile by the person at the register. I got the mini warrior bowl at this South Block location. I have always been a South Block fan, but sometimes I think the prices are too high and the servings are too much for one sitting! I love açaí bowls but I don't need to eat a bucket of it! And for that, I'm grateful they have the mini bowl option for some of the menu. I wish they had that option for the full menu. It's only a couple dollars cheaper but I think the portion is a little nicer if you want just a snack. I am giving 4 stars because I paid extra for almond butter on top but they forgot to put it on! I only noticed once I went home to eat it, so it was too late. read more

The smoothies and acai bowls are delicious, but they do not follow order instructions to leave off hemp hearts from their avocado toast. This is an important note for people who are not allowed to consume hemp seeds/hearts due to their jobs - even if you ask for the hemp hearts to be removed from your order (like the avocado toast), they don't remove them. read more

Ah ok. I see why they have such great ratings. I've been to every south block in Arlington - love them all. But this location is stand out. Came on a Sunday AM - the two girls working at the front were cleaning everything and helping customers and friendly and just like super efficient. Extremely hard working but also happy was nice to see. The guy making my smoothie black glasses and a black south block hat was also beyond friendly and fast. Food is always amazing. I love this company. The review is for the customer service and team working today. A small order took 15-20 minutes for them to make. Talking in the back while my and other customers bowls were just sitting out waiting for toppings... and looking at us while continuing to talk. This other lady actually said "this is taking a long time." Moving extraordinary slow and with no regard to people's time. My dog was outside this whole time waiting. My order was also wrong once received. I manage a restaurant and this type of customer service is what makes people not come back. I love getting my açaí bowls from South Block. This location in particular is very convenient as it's within a 2-3 min walking distance from the Ballston metro stop. I always get the PBJ bowl. This time I wanted to change it up by adding strawberries. After taking my order, the friendly cashier told me about their underground menu. I had never heard of it before but I felt really special when she told me about it lol felt like I was being told a secret. Anyways, they have a Loaded PBJ bowl which has all the goodies of a PBJ bowl but you get strawberries and extra peanut buttery goodness on top. Of course I couldn't resist and I ordered it. I come here 2x a week. They have a kiosk where you can self order, or they can take your order at the register. Tucked away between Punch Bowl Social and Union Kitchen, you'll find South Block's Ballston location. While I'm a big fan of smoothies and smoothie bowls, I know my limitations when it comes to making 'em: quit it, yours will never be as good. On a hot July day, I was looking for a location to grab lunch and get some work done outside of the house. I never take smoothie bowls to go and tend to enjoy right away on site, but surprisingly they do not offer wifi here. Something I'd definitely suggest as an offering, especially for people who don't live or work immediately nearby. I ordered their magic dragon bowl, which I thought was a great consistency with plentiful toppings, but too small of a serving overall. If you're looking for a meal replacement, I would look at other options on their menu.
