I added extra toppings, which made the bowl extra full, but even without my extra toppings, this was hard to eat in one bowl. You have to dump the toppings in something to be able to get to the smoothie part. It's nice that it's full but it's too full (even without my additional toppings). Just make sure to get an extra top and dump your toppings in there to get down to the bottom! Avocado toast was good! The avocado was super creamy. My friend insisted on getting an acai bowl out of nowhere even though she's never had one before. There's smoothie places around the area, but not all of them have acai. So we stumbled into South Block. My friend got the warrior bowl. It was a bit too sweet in my opinion. I got the super green smoothie. I'm surprised the kiosk had almond milk as a potential substitute for pineapple juice. I never thought of them as alternatives to each other. I didn't want my smoothie to be too sweet and I wanted the protein and fat in it. I think the end result was a bit weird when you mix kale and spinach with almond milk, but it wasn't weird in an unpleasant way. I was also surprised to see the kiosk offer ginger as an optional add on for this smoothie. Again, it's something I wouldn't have thought of requesting myself. I've always been told it's good to add ginger to raw foods to reduce the "coldness", so I clicked yes here. I don't think I taste the ginger in the smoothie, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that it's in there. I appreciate how they have chia seeds and honey for you to add on the side. They fill up the bowl/cup up to the rim for everyone, so not sure how people are expected to have space to add things lol (that's a good trait). read more

The toppings are what make the açaí bowls, because the açaí itself has absolutely no flavor which was surprising. I do think the price of the bowls are pretty high for $14 after tax. I will say they do give you a large portion and everything is fresh, but considering I can get an whole meal for this price, i don't buy frequently. I can't say much about the service as it's mostly iPad kiosks that you order from. The wait time is usually about 15 minutes. I will never pay $9 for a bottle of juice, no matter how amazing it tastes or how great the health benefits are. But if they're knocked down to $5 per bottle because the "best by" date is the day of? I'd be willing to treat myself to a bottle here and there. My friends and I tried the following three bottles and here were our thoughts: * Glow Juice - pretty fruity and sweet and satisfied my fruit craving of the morning. I can definitely taste the tartness of pineapple along with the soothing flavor of aloe. This was a pretty mainstream tasting juice - nothing wacky or out of the ordinary. Would definitely cop another bottle if it was $5. * Cure Juice - there is a nice spicy kick (from the cayenne) to this drink along with a strong carrot taste. Honestly? I didn't think I'd like carrot juice but this one surprisingly tasted great! I can also pick out the ginger in this juice as well. This one is definitely a unique drink and would recommend it if you want to try something different! Would buy again if it was $5. * Incredible Mylk - Never thought I would see nor try a teal colored juice, but hey, today's the day! Initially, I found this drink really weird, but it's an acquired taste. I can pick out the cashew and cinnamon flavors very distinctly and they make a surprisingly good combo. I definitely grew to like this drink more. Sadly, one of my friends got a bad stomachache afterwards and claims that it's from this smoothie, but I really think it was the lunch he had. I have been going to the South Block chain since they opened the first location in Clarendon years ago. I have moved around a bit in the Arlington area and this location is now the one most convenient for me. I agree with the general sentiment that the açaí itself doesn't taste like anything at all. The warrior bowl is my go to order, and the majority of the bowl is flavorless, and you must mix the ingredients to boost the overall taste. That being said, I love the Warrior Bowl/ this general chain for my açaí needs because the mix-ins are THAT good - the granola is superior to any I've ever tasted and the organic honey and fruit are delicious. The fruit is also extremely fresh, which is a big plus and can't be assumed to be so, even at smoothie joints. My only critical feedback is similar to everyone else's: while I agree south block is the best, the wait times are slow and the majority of the bowl, on its own, is flavorless. Maybe speed up service and put some more flavor in that açaí! read more

I got the mini warrior bowl at this South Block location. I have always been a South Block fan, but sometimes I think the prices are too high and the servings are too much for one sitting! I love açaí bowls but I don't need to eat a bucket of it! And for that, I'm grateful they have the mini bowl option for some of the menu. I wish they had that option for the full menu. It's only a couple dollars cheaper but I think the portion is a little nicer if you want just a snack. I am giving 4 stars because I paid extra for almond butter on top but they forgot to put it on! Food is always amazing. I love this company. The review is for the customer service and team working today. A small order took 15-20 minutes for them to make. Talking in the back while my and other customers bowls were just sitting out waiting for toppings... and looking at us while continuing to talk. This other lady actually said "this is taking a long time." Moving extraordinary slow and with no regard to people's time. My dog was outside this whole time waiting. My order was also wrong once received. I manage a restaurant and this type of customer service is what makes people not come back. I love getting my açaí bowls from South Block. This location in particular is very convenient as it's within a 2-3 min walking distance from the Ballston metro stop. I always get the PBJ bowl. This time I wanted to change it up by adding strawberries. After taking my order, the friendly cashier told me about their underground menu. I had never heard of it before but I felt really special when she told me about it lol felt like I was being told a secret.
