I've tried several South Block locations, but this one is new to me. I ordered the Health Nut smoothie for pick up. It was ready very quickly, the staff were friendly, and the smoothie was (as per usual) delicious! The inside looks similar to most South Block locations, a counter with some seating. This one had a patio though, which would be great in warmer weather. There is street parking nearby. read more

Loved this place! Spacious, clean restaurant and they serve generous fresh healthy bowls. I had the greens bowl with fresh fruits and my son had the açaí bowl. I liked that they had chia seeds and honey on the side for you to add, if you desire. Will be back! read more

I really wanted to like this spot. The vibes were nice, and the mission is great, but I'm afraid for the amount of time I waited, I most likely will not be back We came in on a Saturday afternoon, around 12:05pm. I imagine it was rush hour, but there were not too many people in there. Having worked in a smoothie shop before, I expected a 10 minute wait with the amount of people in there and staff of 4 behind the counter. Nope. We waited 30 minutes and paid about $15 for an açaí bowl including tip. I felt bad since the guy in front of me came in before my partner and me, and still got his order after us (rough man...) I assume it's because as they're working on in person orders, they're also working on mobile orders? The smoothie bowl was good. The fruits used were fresh. And I appreciate that they leave out raw honey so that you get to determine your sugar levels. TLDR; service was not great for the amount of people that were there, but the smoothies are good. If you're okay with a 20-30 minute wait to fulfill your smoothie bowl craving, I would recommend this spot. read more

The staff is very nice, professional and practice great food health habits. They always inquire of severity of a food allergy, if applicable. Reasonable prices as well. 5 stars!! I love the mission of this place. They are all about giving back and building up communities and people. They have multiple locations around the DMV area. It just gives me all of the good positive vibes that I like to feel at an establishment. I got the queen bee açaí bowl, because what else would a Queen get?!? Lol. I was missing my daily greens and homemade protein smoothie while visiting town. I stumbled upon this place near the hotel I was staying at. I got a peanut blast smoothie with plant based protein ($1 more). I also got an avocado toast which is plain and would taste better with micro greens or something. The avocado toast was so salty and very oily. I can see that they put too much oil and salt. The smoothie was good but could be better with added flavor. The smoothie was expensive and I think it's ridiculous that they charge more for plant protein. Some of the staff were friendly but the one who helped me was kind of rude. I had to explain to her I've never been here and she seemed annoyed for me asking questions. Other than that, it is still a great place to visit and the concept is great. There aren't many options for acai bowls in the NoVA area, except for here and Robeks (which has 60-70g of sugar per bowl.. WHAT). I decided to give South Block a try. I agree with the other reviews that this place is overpriced - a regular bowl is $11-12. I opted for the Mini Bowl instead ($8) - it had acai, granola, banana, blueberry and strawberry. The size of the mini bowl was perfect and definitely a more budget friendly option. 4/5 because I thought their bowls were quite average, and for their price I expected a little bit more. It wasn't enough to make me want to come back and spend my money here. Additionally it took a little longer than expected to get my order, despite being the only customer in the store at the time. On the positive side, they had a pretty spacey outdoor area that wasn't too crowded, even on a Sunday! read more

Solid South Block location in a convenient location for Del Ray. South Block is a provider of smoothies, açaí bowls (thank you, autocorrect), and juice. A local chain, you can find them in Nova/DC. I recommend trying pretty much anything - we've had a few of their smoothies (cave monkey is our fave), bowls and all of their juices. The product is high quality. The price seems right given the quality and location. And service is always top notch. They have a "juice cleanse" that is a series of 6 juices to be drank in sequence throughout the day. The idea is that you Only drink the juices (and water) instead of food. To be honest, I did the one day cleanse, but after downing juice 6 I got desperate and ordered a pizza.... not really the idea, but I get points for trying, right? The bowls are really good - I usually get the almond butter/banana bowl. It's a perfect blend of smooth, berry base, almond butter, and banana/blueberry to cut through the thick almond butter. Back at the block.... after visiting another location the day before.. long after my bowl was gone, I still had Warrior Bowl visions dancing in my head. So needless to say, all roads led me back to the block. I ordered a Warrior Bowl and I was in love all over again. It's something about the velvety texture and the crunchiness from the granola that marries everything in the bowl together in açaí matrimony. Loaded with fresh strawberries, sliced bananas and blueberries. I have my eye on the Ginger Bomb for my next visit! I also grabbed and regular, mint and rose alkaline water which i am excited to try as well. My mom got a green smoothie which was the perfect texture that she could eat it with s spoon, in her words to make it last longer. I also grabbed a Nutella bowl that was generously drizzled with Nutella and a Purple Smoothie that was absolutely beautiful in color. Staff was friendly and greeted us upon entering and exiting the door. I did leave wondering if they had a rewards/loyalty program at this location because it wasn't mentioned or offered. So, kids have tried out South Block at other locations so we decided to try this one out to see if it lived up to the hype. Kid got a Pink Smoothie, I got a Magic Dragon Bowl. I was a bit dubious (especially when the price rung up - over $20, yikes). However, I took a spoonful and WOW ... super yummy. Perfect balance of crunch and tang and sweetness. I'm not even a fan of dragonfruit but *still* loved it. Menu is a bit to get through although understandable since they need to identify everything in each menu item. Coming in cold, probably didn't help - now that I've been there once though, it'll probably be easier next time we go (which we will). Can't wait to try something new - wish there was a location closer to us. read more

This place was good! I was here for a conference and needed to get my acai bowl fix in. I was staying at the Crystal Gateway Marriot and there wasn't too much in walking distance, but to here was about an eight minute Lyft - not bad. I ordered the Almond Butter Acai Bowl which was honestly one of the better bowls that I've had in my expansive acai bowl lifetime. It was a great portion of toppings to actual acai and the cacao nibs really made it. There wasn't too much almond butter which I enjoyed, as I find with a good number of bowls your left with a heaping amount of nut butter and a mouth that just doesn't have enough salive (or acai) to finish it. The only reason I knocked a star was because this location didn't have coffee, and the seating was fairly limited. I automatically associate acai bowl places with unique, hipster vibes, and the ambiance here was average. I would come back for bowls and smoothies though if ever in the area! read more

This is a very nice nieghborhood bar. You get a insdustrial ship like feel walking in. It is easy to walk to things around it and Del Ray. The menu is not over loaded with items so it is easy to pick something. I LOVE their wine cellar in the back behind the bar - cute place to take photo's at. I came in with a client and we sat and got pull pork and pulled chicken sandwhiches. They were really good and portions were big. The service was a slow but it is a nieghborhood bar. The last time I stopped by South Block I opted for a regular Warrior bowl to split with the fiancé. You can tell that they don't skimp on ingredients and it was nice that they top the bowl to the brim. My first time experiencing an açaí bowl left a good impression. It's not too sweet, had a nice tangy taste and was complimented well with the granola. I finally understand most foodie's fascination with the açaí bowl. On a side note, there's plenty of seating available inside and outside to enjoy your smoothie or açaí bowl. South Block is always a favorite when I'm on the go and want to keep it healthy. I love their warrior bowls, a classic acai bowl. They have a variety of other bowls as well. I tried a green smoothie that was pretty good and fresh. They have many fresh cold pressed juices and smoothies. I wish I could try everything on the menu but I'm a creature of habit with my ordering there. One thing I find super convenient is the process for ordering and pickup. This Alexandria location had a tablet for ordering. My order was ready pretty quickly. My only complaint was the impersonal handoff of my order at the counter. I approached the counter when my name was called and my food was set in front of me and the associate turned away without saying a word. The store wasn't busy at all either. I usually get great customer service at other locations including Union Market and another Alexandria location. This was a first stop I'll still return to my usual locations. read more
