I love TSC, but I especially love this particular location. The service is outstanding. I live 5-10 min away by car, and I come here probably 3-4 times a month. I'll usually order ahead on the app and leave immediately to pick it up, and when I get there, my order is ALWAYS done and ready to take away. The staff is also friendly and they always greet me when I come in. Still working on getting to that first-name basis- I order so often that I think we can get there someday. In terms of the actual food/smoothies, you really can't go wrong with the smoothies- they're all great. They only have one size and it's pretty big, but trust me once you start drinking you'll want to finish the whole thing. On the food side, I really like the wraps- they're decently-sized and pretty filling. I get the Supergreen Caesar Wrap every time and it still slaps. I would recommend downloading the app because you can get rewards points with each purchase that you can use to get free items. The app also makes it very easy to customize your order to be exactly how you want it. Can't recommend TSC enough. First off extremely friendly staff. I really like the folks here. They make you feel right at home. All are kind, polite, and quite efficient. I now make my own smoothies for the most part, but this is a good place to see if right for you. Like many Americans, inflation is cutting deeper every day. The prices here and app, aren't what they used to be. This is industry wise, but I just can't do it as much as I used to. One positive aside from the employees, is this chain has proteins to choose from. Whey is my recommendation for those into fitness. All of the smoothies are delicious, but the meals aren't anything exciting. I don't find the portions generous also. Then again am a fairly big man, and taste/sizes is subjective. 6/15/21 Upon driving past this place more times than I can remember, I finally decided to come here for a smoothie and walked out with a chicken quesadilla with bacon as well. The Magic Mango with Watermelon was a special treat. I did forget to add peaches, peaches for me. A combination that would simply be considered... Outstanding. My smoothie simply will not last the day I am afraid. What would the business owner say...they would probably say "y'all come back now here." I would have to say, "I would." The food is outstanding and so is this smoothie. What could make this day even better is Knowing The Baltimore Ravens win the superbowl this year...yeah, my teams time to shine. Right now this is the happiness the magic mango with watermelon is bringing. This is a really great location situated near the Dunn Loring Metro and Harris Teeter. The customer service is excellent and the employees have such a positive attitude. I had the Sunrise Sunset smoothie and it's my favorite since it has mango, pineapple, strawberries and orange juice. Very tropical indeed and it makes me feel like I'm not stuck in cold Virginia. I'm a regular here because the food and smoothies are consistently good and prepared very quickly. All the staff is very friendly and some even greet me by name (shout out to Larry)! Cannot go wrong with the Baja Chicken or Caribbean Jerk Chicken wrap. If you're not as hungry then go with one of the flatbreads. Opting for a combo with a smoothie is always a good move--my favorites are the Acai Berry Boost and Island Green. I'm a fan of the Tropical Smoothie Cafe brand and was very happy with this location. It might be my favorite TSC that I've been too, except there are not many places to sit. Given the metro site and being near a lot of apartments it may be ok for those to order and go. It is very clean and the employees were all very friendly and enthusiastic. Hopefully it lasts. I had the fiery chicken flat bread. It actually wasn't on the menu anymore but I had looked it up before coming and they luckily made it for me. In the past I loved the chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad sandwich on the menu looks a little different but look forward to trying it in the future. TROPICAL SMOOTHIE CAFE IS THE BEST!!! Every location is pretty much consistent with their food, smoothies, and service, so this review can apply to other locations as well. There are so many delicious and healthy items on the menu to choose from, but my go-to is their Chicken Pesto toasted flatbread, Bahama Mama smoothie (GREATEST SMOOTHIE EVER), and a side of chips (you have the choice of a bag of chips or fruit for your side). The smoothies come in one (large) size, but you can ask to split one into smaller cups. Staff always greets you when you walk in and they bring your order to you whether you're dining in or carrying out. I cannot say enough about how great this Tropical Smoothie is! I have lived in the Dunn Loring area for the last two years and was actually able to stop by this location for it's soft opening, and have been going there at least twice a week ever since. John, Larry, and the rest of the staff there are amazing. They seem to know everyone by name and are all very personable. The atmosphere of the cafe itself is great too. The walls are covered with tropical pictures and there is always music playing. Both the inside tables and outside tables are always clean and the napkin holders are always full. The food is great too. I have tried almost every smoothie on the menu and have tried a good number of their sandwiches and wraps, including the breakfast options, and can safely say that I've never had something that I didn't enjoy or couldn't finish. The food and smoothies are ready quickly too, so whenever I stop in on my way to the metro in the morning, i'm in and out in less than 5 minutes. My favorite meal is the Southwest Breakfast Wrap with a Kiwi Quencher smoothie with Splenda and Whey protein. When I grow up, I hope I am cool and rich enough to live in a place like the Modera Avenir Place Apartments. This hipster utopia is hard up against the Dunn Loring Metro station outside DC. Although the Tropical Smoothie Cafe is underneath the Metro Parking Garage, it is part of a group of shops that includes everything one might need if they did not want to own a car. The oddity of being in the bottom of a parking garage is that parking is very tight unless you want to enter said garage. Most TSC locations are located in suburban strip malls with so much parking you might think they were selling cars, but that is not the case here so driver beware if you are hoping to swing in and grab a quick smoothie on your way somewhere else. So I frequent TSC in several locations. This one, the one in McLean when I am at work, and the one on Little River Turnpike. I get the same smoothie 90% or the time which is the detox island green smoothie with two boosts of protein. Normally, it's perfect no matter where I go, but at this location, there is on person in particular that makes it incorrectly. I've asked her to fix on two different trips as the consistency is always way too creamy, which I'm always polite about it. However, I get pushback with a response of, "Well, it's because you asked for double protein." No, ma'am as I get the same smoothie at all of these locations, and have never had this problem. I guess I feel miffed because the person helping me gives me an air like I'm wrong for what I'm asking for with my order that never tastes like this. I love the manager that is split between the two locations, as he's super great. Plus, most of the staff here is wonderful too, but it's just this one. The staff here is always bubbly and nice. Not really a long wait for a smoothie even if there is a line- maybe 10 minutes or so. They also have different choices of proteins that you can add to the smoothies. They serve food as well and breakfast is all day long. Their breakfast wraps are a decent size and very yummy. I was in the area for work for almost 3 months and found myself here at least once a week. I can only speak to the one item I ordered every time off the menu (the Island Green smoothie with an extra scoop of soy protein powder), which was my favorite and most consistent meal alternative when I was coming home from the gym and not in the mood to eat a real meal. I thought it was a delicious combo and it was always consistent! The staff were all very kind and service and food quality was always consistent. Great smoothie shop. I've had the Peanut Paradise and Chia Banana smoothies many times and I love it. The Chia Banana is also very filling and can almost serve as a meal replacement. The sandwiches and pitas are also solid. I like the pesto chicken pita and turkey bacon ranch sandwich. The Tropical Smoothie Cafe app is very convenient. I love tropical smoothie on a regular basis. This was the first time I ordered from this location, and as I was finishing my drink, I realized there was a hair stuck on the inside of my cup. I hadn't been opened since being purchased and the hair is caught on the lid. I guess from the way I was holding the cup I didn't see the hair until later. Luckily, it was stuck. I have frequent a few tropical smoothies locations in the area, Reston, Herndon, and Chantilly. My disappointment with this location unlike the others when you order ahead your smoothie is not waiting for you in their fridge remaining cold. I assumed it was a general practice, if not it should be a common sense practice, especially today. Today the temperature 88°F, I need my smoothie to be a smoothie when I arrive. Luckily I was not too far away this time, but other times it may be 15 to 20 mins before I get there and I am banking on the fridge to keep it cold versus it sitting on the pick up counter getting warm. However I'm a big fan of the Thai Wrap! It's crunch and the peanut sauce is a game changer in my opinion. I usually get chips with my order but you get the option of fruit as well usually an orange. I am so ecstatic that I was in the mood for a smoothie to actually taste this again. I loved the set up of the location. There was a little bar in the front and the menu was really clean and easy to read. I went for the classic smoothie, the Paradise Point and I added my favorite thing, ginger! This smoothie is the absolute truth, just thinking about it makes me want to hop in my car and grab another one. This smoothie is sooo good that I'm afraid to try another flavor because it may not be as good *sigh*. In regard to the customer service I really like that when the cashier took my card she actually used my name when she gave it back as well as when she gave me my smoothie. 1. Ambiance: I am loving their decor and wall pictures. The color gives off a happy and island vibe. Light green and coral are the theme colors of this restaurant. It is a casual environment that you can hang out and kick back with friends/family. 2. Food: I ordered the Pom Plunge and had bought Blueberry Bliss and Acai Berry Boost for a few kids that I was with. The Pom Plunge consists of pomegranate, banana, strawberries & cranberry. I love the combination that they had put together for these drinks. The Pom Plunge was delicious and refreshing. You can turn it into a protein drink by adding supplements (powder) and/or fresh add-ins, which I will do so next time. The kids also loved their Acai Berry Boost and Blueberry Bliss. 3. Service: Abel helped us with our order. I do have to apologize in advance if the kids that I was with were staring at him. I was supposed to meet a guy for a date, or lack thereof. The jerk canceled 15 minutes prior and the kids thought it would be best if I try to date Abel so that they can get free smoothies. I tutor these kids on Sunday and they're getting too clever. Anyhow, Abel was very really sweet and patient with us because the kids and I took forever ordering the food. Great service all around. 4. Costs: The Blueberry Bliss was $5.19, Pom Plunge was $5.69, and 2 Acai Berry Boost was $11.38. The drinks are pricey and range above $5, but their drinks are very fresh. They serve the drinks in a large container that took a while to finish, so you're definitely getting a lot for your money. 5. Overall Experience: I would definitely come back since I am a fan of their drinks. I would try other flavors under the superfood smoothies. I called in a fairly large order...for our office lunch. 9 meals. Only 1 ordered fruit as the side. Me. I SPECIFICALLY ordered NOT an apple, as I'm allergic. I told the person on the phone about the allergy. What did I get as my side? An Apple. All the salads are advertised as Romaine lettuce...guess what, it's not. It's nasty Iceberg. Not healthy at all, unlike most reviews state plus the Virginia Department of Health issued news their frozen strawberries risk Hep A infection. They use frozen and canned fruits for their smoothies so if you think about what "healthy" means, think again. I wanted a simple acai and pineapple smoothie, and if they use fresh fruits, sweetness would naturally occur between the two when combined. The server asked me if I wanted turbinado sugar on my smoothie, and I said no. She then proceeded to say, not even Splenda or a fruit juice to make the smoothie a bit slushier and easy to drink. Umm gross. Luckily I used a free coupon and I threw my smoothie away after the first sip because the canned taste of pineapples were disgusting and quite dominant. I scrambled to check when my visit was and this was back in May, and phew thank the heavens for that time frame and the simple fact that I did not consume any frozen strawberries from this place as the Virginia Department of Health just issued an update stating the frozen strawberries here have been contaminated with Hepatitis A. Frozen strawberries that were genetically tested and modified. This is why I always go for fresh, organic, and Tropical Smoothie Cafe is the farthest thing from that. I was outside looking in, and a man motioned for me to come inside. He told me they weren't officially opened today, but were making sure everything was set up and working properly for their grand opening tomorrow, 16 March. He let me look at the menu, ask questions, take pictures, and was extremely helpful and polite. He told me to come back tomorrow for their opening. I asked if they were going to have any opening specials, and he said not yet, but they are looking into offering specials once they are settled. Discounts: They have a military, fire, and police discount. Menu: So, not only do they offer their namesake, "smoothies," but they offer tacos, flatbreads, wraps, sandwiches, salads, and sides. Since this is a chain store, most people know the menu, and that they offer add-ins and supplements to their smoothies for an extra punch of energy and healthy nutrition. Unfortunately for those who have to be or choose to be gluten-free (GF), the only non-liquid food offered GF is the Fruit Medley and the Loaded Spinach Salad. The other two salads aren't GF. If they offered the tacos or wraps in corn tortillas, then GF eaters would be good to go, but they are flour tortillas. But I come here for the smoothies anyway, so they are all GF. However, some of the add-ins and supplements aren't GF, and if you look at their menu, you can see that the ones that aren't GF are the: energizer, vitamin-c, fat burner, spinach and kale, and whole grain oats.
