The owner is one of the most kind and authentic people I've ever met, not to mention she's a beekeeper and upstanding member of our community. I have yet to take one of the art classes, or meditation classes or host of other classes they offer but that's on my short list of things to do. Here's HIVE. (Where amazing people swarm :) ) Hive is a stationary and gift shop but they also have classes, art collectives, moments of great conversation and one of the coolest atmosphere's in Gastonia. My husband has quickly learned, that any gift for me purchased from Hive is a great idea. He went in last September for an anniversary gift and received the best service from Merryman (owner). You can find all sorts of cool stuff in here and the items are constantly changing. Soaps, books, cards, hand-stamped stationary and custom stationary if you're so inclined. Been traveling to Book-A-Million for about 10 years now and It's become a big part of my life…read more Disregard the negative reviews your seeing about it being cluttered or unkept, it's just a very full place. Every shelf is stocked with a huge selection of novels, games, toys (alot of learning toys great for younger childred) and board games. If you're a D&D/Pathfinder player the prices are a little high but not unreasonable for some of their books, and they do have some of the harder to find items (clear dice for those of you who like your rolls fair). There are better coffee shops out there than the one inside, but I like the charm of the little place. They're reasonable in price and the coffee and tea is really good. The fact is, while Barns and Noble has no presence in Gastonia, Books-A-Million is here, and often busy. In a time when bookstores are shutting down this is one store I don't see going anywhere.

Walked in looking for a specific book, and he practically barked at me to ask what I wanted. Not exactly the welcoming atmosphere I'd expect from a bookstore. I was looking for spiritual books which they have a small section. I was not able to find what I was looking for at the time but will be back to check out other items. The prices seem good for what is being sold. I will be back to explore more.

This is such a cute shop! I love the upstairs treehouse story area for children, the blind date…read morebook options, the puzzle section, the audiobook section... I could go on! I stop in every time I'm downtown and look forward to attending my first book club there this month.
