I worked with one lady on threads and she helped me kit a canvas I brought in. She also answered my questions and made me feel welcomed and valued. Which is important, because some stores (not this one) have this vibe that comes across as rude and if you are new you aren't welcomed. Also if you don't look a certain way and come in like a needlepoint expert (truly it's a harsh community to try to fit into) if you know, you know! This store is worth the drive and I left feeling closer to my Granny and more excited about my new hobby. Thank you for such a friendly experience. The prices of canvas and materials were honestly on point and a better quality and price point than Charlotte and the experience was worth the drive. I asked the manager filling balloons as we got the the self serve island of trust. You are your own cashier here. They don't want to pay cashiers. But anyways - there is a manager filling balloons. I ask if they will price match their own app and she says yes, and then pawned me off to another employee. Still fine. The price came up as $11.69 each on sale from $12.99. Then bOGO. But it's annoying you pay $1.69 more at this location than the app says it should be. I explained the coupon to the employee and suddenly the manager is interested. She says what is the deal again and I explained it again, it's directly from their app, and she's like is that a screenshot? I said yes because the Internet in here is terrible. She then says I need you to pull it up on the app. I'm like OK but your Internet's terrible so my wife does pulls it up on the app shows her exactly what the screenshot shows, where online the frame would be $4.99 in store. You have to buy two to buy them as a buy one get one for $9.99. I mean if you're gonna treat me like a criminal like I'm trying to steal $1.69 remember it's in a store with no cashiers where you're literally self servicing each of your items as your own employee because they don't wanna do it. I already hate Michael's now because their product qualities has gone way down and the prices have gone way up. I'll give an example as their picture frames. The hardware and backing on them is the lowest quality and typically will break off and is not even really on. It's kind of glued or haphazard attached to whatever you're inserting into the back of the frame. This location does so poor that they still have a ton of Christmas stuff on mega clearance. They can't get rid of because there's hardly anybody that shops here - the store is in disarray. It's gotten kind of dirty, even though it's not that old and it's just not fun to shop here. We hardly ever come here - we'd rather go to Hobby lobby. I said to the manager after we paid that people don't like it when the app has a cheaper price then online and then I try to explain it to her and she acts like I'm trying to get one over on them again for $1.69. I said I would leave it in my YELP review. They both actually laughed at me as I was leaving. Take note MICHAEL - there was like nine people in the store. It cannot be affordable to have people just not shop here anymore because your product qualities is low. Your stores are a mess. Your prices are high and your employees just aren't very nice and hardly any of them work there. Crafts are fun. Shopping at Michael's is not fun. A lot of craft items are supposed to be affordable cause you know - you're crafting - somebody should tell MICHAEL. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way because it's always empty. I really used to love Michael's back in the day. Not sure what happened. They've lost their way. I've been to many a scrap store and I've been to stores that were larger but I really think this one was unique in that they had really nice quality products and almost everything I looked at I could have used in a project or two. It's most unfortunate when you walk into some stores and they seem to have a lot but the quality isn't there or they don't have the selection. This one seemed to have some nice stuff! This is perhaps the worst Hallmark Gold Crown Store that I've ever been in. A lot of my feelings…read morehave to do with the owner/manager, for hiring teenagers that do not care about how they are portraying her business. During my most recent visit, neither clerk had the familiarity with the stock, to tell me where to find products. Then, they had no idea as to guesstimating what something cost, without taking six minutes to look it up on the computer, per item, and I had half a dozen in my hand. Upon entering, I should have just left on this visit, as the girls were more interested in talking amongst themselves, rather than greeting a customer, such as they were being paid to do. Furthermore, they did not know what a coupon could be applied to, without running it as a sale. Then, their basic math skills were null. The item I finally decided upon was $17.95 or $18.95, plus tax. My coupon was for $5 off. After ringing me up, they said my total was $20 and change. I asked if the coupon had been applied, and she said yes. For a good ten minutes I tried convincing her that the coupon had not been applied, as $18-$5 would be about $14 with tax. She argued with me that tax was the extra amount. I said that NC does not have a tax rate that is almost 30% for a retail store. She just did not understand that sales tax is under 10%, and not $5 for a $13 order. I gave up and asked for my coupon back and walked out. Then, today was the cherry on top. Nobody else was in the store, but I left livid. I asked if they could order/locate an item, exclusive to Gold Crown Stores, and was told they were not sure. But, she did tell me to hang on while she finished eating. Then, I asked if they could call a few of the other stores to see if someone else had it. Of course not! What was I thinking? Then, I was informed I could get a list of Gold Crown Stores online, and order there, too. I'm not going to be a patron at a store where I have to do the work that an employee is supposed to be able to do for me. If I had been able to find the item online, I would never have gone in looking for it! Girls, quit worrying so much about your skin, hair, and nails, as well as your hunger long enough to do what you're being paid to do, and work with a customer! It was slightly insulting to me, knowing you were not interested in having a general idea of prices in the store, and that most of the items I picked up did not have price tags. Hallmark, please hire people that want to work, need to work, take pride in being there, and are willing to help a customer that has a slight level of intelligence, please! As an aside, I think this is now Christie's Hallmark. The two stars are because the store was clean, though it stunk like the girl's food on my last visit.
