Such a cutie book store with so many rows of options and a cure kids section in the middle to slow down and create meaningful moments with your little ones. There are so many stationary items, journals, bags, cards, and puzzles as well. They even have baggu bags! Everyone there is so kind and welcoming. One release day of Threshing Day, I called ahead to confirm if they had the deluxe edition and if there were any more in store. They were so kind and held the book for me under my name until I got there to pick up and was honestly just as excited to hand me the book as I was to recieve it. Always happy to support local read more

Such a cute, dog friendly bookstore! It's in a busy plaza, so very easy to swing by after brunch on a weekend morning, you can even get ice cream after. The staff was so nice! They keep dog treats at the register and easily engaged us in conversation. I found exactly what I was looking for and then some! read more

This is a great bookstore! We came through on our way to the airport & Bri greeted us and offered to provide any recommendations on books. She & Sophie were a delight to get to know. The bookstore is full of aisles & little staff notes / reviews. That gave it all a nice personal touch. Bri convinced my husband to buy a book and we took home a bookmark that was designed by a local. It was a nice souvenir! We looked online at a lot of nearby bookstores & were happy we stopped by this one. Fun fact: at the airport, we ran into our alma mater's previous president & he complimented my husband on his thick book choice! Thanks Park Road Books for the nice impression we made! read more

Stumbled upon this place after having lunch at the soda shop couple doors down. What an absolute adorable place. In an era where everything seems to be digital it's so nice when you come across an old school book store. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I bought one book because I was in a time crunch but can't wait to go back when I have more time to check out the selections. read more

One of my favorite spots in Charlotte and I have never thought before yesterday to drop in a review. They're exactly what you want in a bookstore. The people who work there are knowledgeable, friendly, caring, open minded and kind... and happen to treat my dog like a princess whenever we visit. The store itself is cozy and welcoming, the children's section has seating for story time, and their offerings often feature books banned by people who have never read them. (I just picked up a copy of James Baldwin's GIOVANNI'S ROOM on Indie Bookstore Day.) Please stop buying from soulless online chains and support a place where actual writers and actual readers can find an actual safe space to share their love of literature and knowledge. Love you, Park Road Books! read more

Usually the staff here is great, but have run into a few who weren't. Today when purchasing a book the staff member picked up the credit card machine and moved it out of my reach, then took my cc and tapped it herself, not sure she may have thought I was incapable of tapping my own card. Her attitude was pretty condescending. Will give it another try and hopefully get a different staff person to check me out. read more

The greatest bookstore in Charlotte! It's local, the staff is by far the best and most knowledgeable in town. They will find you any book you need, and any book you didn't know you needed. They have great authors, events here, check their social media page For the schedules. It's imperative we support our local independent bookstores. When's the last time you purchased a book? Stop ordering on Amazon. Call the head, especially if you're looking for something specific. If they can't get it, it doesn't exist. Make sure to check out the recommended books of the staff. Go buy a freaking book already! read more

Love books? Love Dogs too? This is your place! I was stuck in Charlotte for the day with a flight delay and Bri and Manny were so lovely! They warmly greeted everyone. They also went out of they way to tell me about local spots not to miss while here! I love going to independent book stores in towns I visit and this why. The people who run and work in them. It's just better. Great cookbook, puzzle, and children sections! Just go there, you won't be sorry. read more

My all-time favorite mom and pop book store!! It's located in the Park Road Shopping Center. There are plenty of parking spaces so it's not bad. It's a cute, quaint little book store. From the moment you step in, you can smell the books and automatically are bombarded with different books and accessories. They have different sections. Fiction, nonfiction, crime, languages, and even school work books. They have a kids' corner and different seating options in the middle of the store in case you want to preview a book. It has a nice cozy feel to it, and the employees are very helpful if you have any questions or need help finding a certain book. If you're a fan of books and in this shopping center, definitely check them out. read more

This is an amazing small business local to Charlotte. It is located at Park Road Shopping Center. This place has a friendly feel, and has hosted many authors for book signings. What a great experience here. I was looking for 2 specific John Le Carre books. After scanning the shelves between mystery & non-fiction, I was challenged to get an eye on them. In short order, nice gentleman spotted me and immediately put his hands on both my selections...boom! Go here, find what you're looking for and support your local business. Supporting local book shops is so vital to our community so I love Park Road Books! They have events often to engage with local authors as well as gifts and things like calendars, puzzles, and cards. I adore this bookstore! It's such a treasure, especially in a time when brick and mortar bookstores are few and far between. Park Road Books - Just one of the finds I had no idea I needed! - Bookstores Near Me - Charlotte, North Carolina

I haven't spent much time in this store, but I have had a very good experience with them. I ordered a book over the phone that turned out to be bound very oddly. Every other page was upside down and it was not at all clear that the book was bound this way intentionally. I didn't know this and they didn't know this, so when the book came in they let me know there was an issue and ordered another one. The next one came in and had the same issue, and so did the next one. They kept going back to the publisher to ensure I got what I was looking for and were very polite to me. Eventually the publisher told them that this was actually done intentionally by the author and I went and picked up the book. I felt like they went out of their way and made a point to ensure I was satisfied. Everyone I spoke to was kind and respectful the entire time. It's the kind of service you won't get from a place like Amazon, and it's why I'll be checking them first when looking for a book from now on. read more

Awesome customer service. Great selection super friendly staff. And we were there while an author was there doing signings! Great little book shop. read more

A huge bummer. I ordered a book via Amazon and decided to check with Park Road to see if they had it. I called to check stock on the book and was advised the warehouse had it in stock and if not additional copies can be ordered. I ordered 2 copies in hardback, as I specifically wanted the hardback copies. I cancelled the Amazon order, ya know shop local. And when Park Road called to let me know the books came in, it was discovered the clerk made an error and the wrong books were ordered. And of course Amazon is out of stock. Take my advice and just order online instead. Worst of all, they truly didn't care to own or even acknowledge the error. Disappointing is an understatement. read more

Locally owned bookstore with a while selection of books. Great service with knowledgeable employees.

Had an excellent shopping experience! I called Park Road Books to purchase some books for older elementary school kids. I relayed true information about the kids ages and my price point and she had 2 graphic novels picked out within minutes. I paid over the phone, drove to the curb, and she brought them out to my car. This could not have been easier! Cherry on top: the books were WONDERFUL and there was no way I would've stumbled across them on the Amazon app. Let's support our small businesses! read more

This has been my favorite local book store since moving to Charlotte 5 years ago. The associates are so incredibly nice and helpful. I'm so grateful we have an independent bookstore in this great old shopping center. I shopped childrens books. Nice big selection. A couple suggestions: More signs would be helpful, along with more age divisions in the age 0-5 selections.... Including the books with stickers, puzzles, etc. The card selection use some fresh input - quite dated. The humor is stale. There were still even "funny" cards about Covid/face masks. I laugh non-stop when card-shopping at Paper Skyscraper and realize people have different tastes. I will try to shop here more for books because I want to support this old treasure. I saw wrapping paper at the check out area - a nice touch you can't get on Amazon. read more

If I could just bring in a sleeping bag and live here, that'd be great. I love these comfortable local bookstores. They know every title on their shelves, can recommend just about anything to you, and are actually interested in your likes and dislikes. We stopped in just so my sister could show it off to me and I ended up spending like $75, mostly on board books for my niece and friends' kids. Great selection, excellent variety, and staff is top-notch. read more

On Independent Bookstore Day (22nd August) my wife, Linda Luise Brown, and I just wanted to thank Sally, Sherrie, and all the rest of the wonderful staff at Park Road Books for all their hard work, professionalism, and friendliness at all times - and especially in these difficult and scary times of COVID. You all are a lifeline for culture, entertainment, and sanity in our woe begotten world! Cheers! read more

Awesome selection of books! Staff is superb and personable! They took the time to give my daughter three options based on other books that she enjoys. One was a smash hit and the second, she was slow to warm up to/get into, but in the end enjoyed both. My daughter cherishes books! I love books too, and they had a book by a quirky author I had read about online and just had to read their book, which I absolutely loved and identified with! Go here, you will not regret it! As a bonus, get ice cream at Jeni's when you leave! read more

I was really impressed. I've walked in before, looked around no biggie. I'm typically a "leave me alone & let me find what I want myself & I'll ask if if I need help" kind of woman. So I am minding my own business... I picked up a book on the $5 rack outside the store, wandered in and was perusing for something to catch my attention... ...what caught my attention was hearing another customer asking for help in finding something to read & hearing the response... "tell me what kinds of books you've read recently or that you have really enjoyed." An open question, asking for the customer to provide clues as to which direction they want to go! AND! The sales person listened. Awe-some. Even though I wasn't involved & only overheard - the rest of the conversation (read: conversation) showed interest, insight & knowledge of varied subjects & authors. This is and of itself is enough to give this store 5 stars. When I came to the register myself with my selections, another salesperson showed genuine delight in what I had selected and gave me some additional information about my purchase. I'm very happy to have re-discovered an independent bookstore in Charlotte & I will return. p.s. TONS of good puzzles! read more

PRB is a quiet little store that always has a few racks of books outside to catch your interest. It works on me 3 out of 5 times and I'll saunter inside to see what's new. It's tiny but they are very friendly and you could order a book and just pick it up by the time you have to go to Harris Teeter or otherwise visit the Park Road Shopping Center again. read more

Fabulous independent bookstore!! I love the wide variety of books and authors they carry at Park Rd. Books. The children's and young adult sections have excellent selections. I like their focus on NC and local authors and staff suggestions. I also think they have wonderful note cards, too. I think they are an important feature of Charlotte as one of the few indie bookstores. I special ordered several books and the staff was very helpful! I haven't visited this location since I lived in Costwald (a loong time ago). I escaped here on my lunch break and made it a point to not check my phone and just browse. With the outside hustle and bustle that lunch time brings to the Park Road Shopping area, the calmness is felt and admired. Everyone was super friendly, the books are neat and in order (I appreciate that more than I could ever explain) and I even got a free bookmark. Free is always good. read more

Wonderful independent book store. Focused more and on using store for shelf space and an awesome selection of books rather than a place for people to hang out and read endlessly. I'm a pretty big book reader & love trying out new book stores, so Park Road Books was a welcome sight to see. This place is relatively large for a shopping center store & they have quite a good selection of books. Aisle upon aisle is filled with different genres, & while they may not have as big a selection as your chain bookstores, they still have quite a few books. I actually prefer bookstores like this, because every title is facing you on the shelves. You don't have to turn your head sideways to read every title like your big chain bookstores. So because they don't have such a huge selection, you can see every intriguing cover & easily find books you otherwise might have passed over. They also have a large children's section to keep the kiddies occupied while you go about your book finding. And one thing that really sets this place apart is the service. They allow you free reign to search for books without pestering you, but if you do need help they are very friendly & very knowledgeable. I saw 2 people approach the counter & ask about various authors/books, & both times the lady behind the counter knew the info right off the top of her head. Park Road Books really goes above & beyond your normal big chain bookstores. While it may not have as vast a selection, it makes up for this with its better browsing ability & excellent personal service. If you're an avid book fan & you're looking for a nice atmosphere to peruse, then this place won't disappoint. read more

One of the last of the independent bookstores and one of the best. I love going in there and looking for a good book to read. I know that if I ask, I will always get great advice. I don't care if I can get the book cheaper somewhere else or online, I will pay more to get it from this store. Visiting with the owners dog is always a plus! read more

Amazon and big chain bookstores will never have that amazing smell that comes from a bunch of brand new books in a small area. Some other bibliophiles will understand where I am coming from. The rest of you can think that I am strange and I probably am. Despite the loud DJ outside a store nearby the bookstore was the perfect quiet refuge for me during our weekend shopping. The staff members were all friendly, the store was clean and the books were well organized. There is a cute sitting area in the back which is surrounded by children's books. I was only there to browse this time but I can see myself returning next time I want to purchase a new book. read more

Great, independent bookstore! I ventured in here for the first time a few days ago and will definitely be back. It's a nice change of pace from the over-sized mega bookstores out there and has a nice, small town feel to it. I love the handwritten recommendations from the staff on the books and the huge selection of planners, journals, notecards, etc. They host a number of authors doing discussions and signings from what I can see on their calendar (bummed I missed Chelsea Handler though) No, they don't have the selection of the huge bookstores or all the glitz and glitter but I feel a little better knowing that my money is going to the local economy to keep it running. read more
