Not a Fan of the Service Here I'm not sure what's going on, but the "manager" Gabriel needs to work on his people skills. Walked in looking for a specific book, and he practically barked at me to ask what I wanted. Not exactly the welcoming atmosphere I'd expect from a bookstore. He didn't even bother to help me find the book I was looking for, just grunted and pointed me in the general direction of the shelves. Definitely won't be back. 0/5 stars from me. read more

I wanted to like this place, but honestly, this is just one of those get in and out kind of bookstores. It is impossible to even sit down and enjoy a good book or write a College Paper, without being encumbered by the suffocating energy of the local folk. The things they talk about are so damn mind numbing. I honestly wonder how most of this town survived infancy to be honest. Sitting inside the Franklin Square Books A Million feels like the equivalent of stuffing my brain into a Dyson vacuum cleaner. Literally. Just the other day I was in here picking up a copy of Don Quixote and the cashier is rambling for several minutes about Count Dooku from Star Wars, completely unprofessional and creepy as all hell to be honest. **Fun Fact** in Mexico Sancho is a rapist/philanderer but in the book he is a Squire. Ironic? Yeah. I think so too. The other staff are actually quite helpful. I like the old lady who works at the café, I think she runs a witches coven in her off time. She actually headed me my candy blasted frappé and told me that she could read minds. . bottom line this place is weird and enter at your own risk. Run for your lives folks. Or go to the Barnes and Noble at Carolina Place. Ask about the coffee for dead soldiers !! read more

I have never had a problem with their customer service, in fact everyone there is very pleasant and helpful. There's even a little coffee shop that is great. You can sit and read your books. I will admit that I haven't been there during the weekend so it might be busy. I usually go there during the week. I recently moved from Florida where Barnes and Noble were everywhere and not having one in Gastonia was tough until I found this place. Love it!! read more

I recently visited the Gastonia NC store. This used to be my "go-to" store as a teacher and a grandparent when looking to purchase books or games. The staff was always helpful. I am absolutely not suggesting for this book store to remove any genre of books. However, I found it offensive to see an entire end cap of books by Author Mark Manson where profanity is in every title. Young children must walk past this display to get to the children's section. Surely you could display these books in a different way rather than expose such profanity to all who walk past the end cap. read more

Where do start? I bought an ACT book for my daughter from here and of course, it was the wrong one! I ask them if I could return it if it wasn't the right book and she said yes. Well, they wouldn't exchange the book without me having a membership or knowing the exact date, time, and amount. He wouldn't scan the book to check the price. I shop here a lot, but never again! I am completely disappointed in Books-A-Million. My husband bought a few books from them and they asked him to pick three of his favorite magazines. Unbeknownst to him, he was actually subscribing to these three magazines. There were no papers to sign and they just used the card on file to create these subscriptions. This was about to happen to my sister a month later when we both wondered what that was about. She didn't ask questions but didn't circle any magazines. It felt very manipulative. Looking back at this and what happened to my husband we felt duped into something he was unaware of. This is a terrible way to make sales and I will NEVER be shopping at Books-A-Million based off these "sales" principles. read more

The last bastion of brick and mortar book stores left of the chains next to Barnes and Nobles. Do yourself a favor and put the technology down and read a book. You'll be amazed at the wealth of collection of books, toys, games, etc. Thankfully, there is NO.. I repeat.. NO Starbucks inside. Joe Muggs is much better. If you plan on making this store a habit, which is very easy to do, be sure to get a yearly membership. They aren't expensive, and the membership gives you great discounts on books for your home library. Don't be surprised if you spend hours here. The possibilities from children to recipe books to technology.. All here. The store isn't all neat and pretty like a B&N. But it does its job just fine. read more

I did not know these stores were still in business (thanks to Amazon, etc.). No offense to Books-a-million. They even have their own groovy little "starbuckseque" coffee shop. I'm sure they love all the comparisons, so here's one more. Remember B Dalton Bookstores in the mall? That's the feeling I got when I went inside, but times five. Decent selection of books and magazines. Tons of great kitsch for stocking stuffers. Marvel, Star Wars and Walking Dead figures/memorabilia. The prices did seem a bit inflated. Browsing did make me smile - prices made me frown. read more

Been traveling to Book-A-Million for about 10 years now and It's become a big part of my life. Disregard the negative reviews your seeing about it being cluttered or unkept, it's just a very full place. Every shelf is stocked with a huge selection of novels, games, toys (alot of learning toys great for younger childred) and board games. If you're a D&D/Pathfinder player the prices are a little high but not unreasonable for some of their books, and they do have some of the harder to find items (clear dice for those of you who like your rolls fair). There are better coffee shops out there than the one inside, but I like the charm of the little place. They're reasonable in price and the coffee and tea is really good. The fact is, while Barns and Noble has no presence in Gastonia, Books-A-Million is here, and often busy. In a time when bookstores are shutting down this is one store I don't see going anywhere. read more

Cluttered & uninviting. Just not what I'd want in a bookstore. They do have a large selection though, so I have to at least give them a couple of stars. The shelves here just seem way too cluttered & it's tough to really find what you're looking for if you're just browsing. I usually like to check out what certain sections have to offer, & hardly ever head to a bookstore with a specific book in mind. That's tough to do here, trying to find your way through the clutter to an intriguing title. They do have some seating in the middle for people to sit down & read, but these seats are usually filled with tired husbands waiting on their wives. Plus, it's way too loud in here to actually have a good atmosphere for reading. There's a Joe Mugg's coffee shop within the place, which only adds to the noise. I prefer bookstores a little more quaint & a little more quiet, so this place just doesn't cut it. But I still jump in when I'm in the area. read more

I wish that you could give a half a star. I'd love to give BAM three and a half stars, because while they've almost always got exactly what I'm looking for, the price is nearly double that of anywhere else I look. Which I suppose is part of the problem (and the draw) of having a physical bookstore nearby. I can find books at BAM that have just been released, usually on the day of release or just after, but their prices are at least $10 more than other stores. I like being able to find what I want, when I want it, but when I can't afford to pay thirty bucks for it, it kind of dims the satisfaction a little. I think this is why the brick-and-mortars are having the problems they're having--they have plenty of offerings, but their prices don't match other places (Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, etc, online or in-store) so they're losing their touch. In the end? It's a wonderful place to visit, I just can't afford to shop there. read more

Oh, I really love this book store. I could spend all day in there and I usually do. They have anything you're looking for. They also have comfortable chairs so you can relax and read. There is also a nice coffee shop that I enjoy. read more

I've been to this store 3 times looking for a book in the last 3 weeks, they keep saying the book must still be packed from the last delivery. 3 weeks to unload a book each time they offer to have the book purchased and shipped to my home. No I want to walk in the store and have that experience. However after 3 trips in 3 weeks I'll go to a different place. read more

They have a large selection of firearms-related magazines, which is a plus for me. They are open to 11pm many nights, which tends to draw a different crowd. I've been propositioned by gay guys in the bathroom twice after 9pm so if you're there that late, watch your ass (literally). read more

I went in there to find a book and could not figure out where it would be. Looked to ask someone and I could find no one around and there was 3 people up one ringing customer out and 2 just up there chit chating and laughing.
