The selection is so diverse, the price is extremely manageable if you know what other stores charge for hobby supplies and books, and you get to look at anything you may need to spice up your collection of figures, cards, games, books, and so much more. This place is a book/music/movie lovers dream! Books and music as far as the eye can see! They even sell albums and album players. I even saw an old school cassette player boom box, but it was "modernized. I walked out with 3 books, under $17. Can't beat it. No idea places like this still existed, much less thriving. I used to love going to CD warehouse and flipping through the used c.d.'s to see what I could add to my collection. When they went away, I thought this type of store was gone forever. 2nd & Charles has brought it back with the addition of games and books. Lots of used books. If you are a major book lover like I am, THIS IS THE BOOKSTORE FOR YOU! This is my favorite bookstore to come to whenever I sometimes just want to get out of the house or I need something new to read. This is conveniently located close to my home. It's a really huge store but very organized. They have all the books organized by genre and are relatively easy to locate if you are looking for something in particular. They do sell other things beside books, they sell bags, bookmarks, reading accessories and other miscellaneous things. They also sell music, guitars, bibles, and a variety of candies. You can definitely get lost there looking at every little thing they have to offer. They also have a lot of bargain books. I've scored a couple of popular titles for only $5, which is a huge score! I definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for a new book store to browse at. All the employees are super polite and extremely helpful when you ask them a question. They are located in a shopping center right next to a petsmart, so they do offer plenty of parking spaces for you to choose from. read more

My folks shared pictures of this place when they visited the plaza to pick-up dog food and thought it looked interesting. I made sure to stop in during my last visit as it looked like a unique place where pictures didn't do it justice. They specialize in selling and buying new and gently used books, CDs, DVDs and Blu-Ray, and pop culture collectibles for a variety of genres. You can find a mix of things from rare books (often locked in cabinets) to Harry Potter collectibles under one roof. Areas have clearly marked signs so you know where to look. They run a couple of promotions on things and new stock does come in pretty regularly. I purchased two mangas and got a third for free. It's neat to see when items came in, as noted by the sticker on the books with the arrival date it came to 2nd and Charles. (Some had really early years on them and we guessed this is because stock was pulled from other locations for opening, as this is a newer one.) Staff were friendly and greeted everyone who entered. I asked them about a print copy of Robert Bloch's Psycho and the gal who helped me said it was an older book, but it was wise to check social media for 2nd and Charles. (They'll post about rare or old books they received in sometimes.) The plaza has plenty of parking. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! If you love books, comics, Funko pops, video games, board games, Knick knacks, just about everything! Come here! Staff is very helpful and all employees wear face coverings! There's never been a time where I go and they don't have what I'm looking for and more. And for book lovers if they don't have a book in stock that you'd like they can order it for you at the register and have it shipped to your home. I went here when it first opened. I said hello to the security guard upon entrance and for whatever reason she decided to follow me around the whole time. The used books has absolutely no order to them. Impossible to really find anything that way. I see they are still masking their poor employees, so no thanks. I have been a customer here for several months now. The staff is mostly friendly. They also have an adequate selection of used books. However, I did try to make use of their trade-in option, and they offered me less than what was appropriate. I'm not sure what pricing guide they are using, but it is much more effective for me to sell my books online, or to other local used books stores that will actually give me at least half of what the book is worth. I may decide to shop here again in the future, but there are definitely better places to trade in your books. read more

This place is good for buying books, but do NOT sell your books here. I sold them 10 of my books which were good as new and they only gave me $4 :| keep in mind these books were young adult books and in really good condition, i thought they would at least give me $10 but no. If you wanna buy books here then great, but dont sell your books, might as well sell them online or another place. read more

I sold a HUGE box of movies and they bought 90% of them, the cash offer was $11!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt sick walking out of there. I am not sure who the CHEAP SKATE at CORPORATE is who sets the trade in values but they make ebenezer scrooge look like santa. Seriously, do actually pay out .25 on some items? 10 cents? 5 cents?!?! One PENNY? What is the point!?!?!?? Hey maybe I should PAY YOU to take my stuff. It cost me more in GAS to get out there, never again!!! Rip off!!!! read more

I brought in a large number of items to sell. 40 graphic novels, 21 Walking Dead Supply Drop collectibles, and a few other items (which they did not make an offer on). No one told me it would take hours to put together an offer, so I wound up coming back the next day. I estimate their retail price on these would be somewhere between $200-400. So imagine my surprise when they offered $29 cash (or $49 store credit). That works out to about 58 cents per item, not even 10% of what they would sell them for. I rejected the offer. For comparison, a local used book store paid me $60.80 for all but one of the books (that's over $1.50 per book). 2nd & Charles is a cool store, but I would not bother offering them anything for buyback again. read more

Was told that my box of books would be ready for them to make me an offer within 45 minutes to an hour. I live far away from the store and so driving home and back back would basically cancel out any money I would make from the offer. I went to run some errands close to the store and returned back an hour and a half later. I checked in on the progress and they said that I was next. Fast forward another hour and my box still was not done. I had invested 4 hours of my day at this point with driving and waiting. I took my things and cut my losses. I understand that sorting through things takes a long time but being honest with your customers about the time things are going to take is obviously the best policy. Not that anybody cares but I work 4 jobs to keep our family afloat so a wasted day is a major deal. All this to say, I have been to other locations of this store and have received much better service. I will not be returning to the Matthews location again. read more
