Tapioca Place may be the best (and has the best sandwiches), but Teahouse (a local chain) has the best selection and pushes close for the crown, especially the location at Shepherd & Westheimer. But there is a third, and oft-unheralded, competitor for this crown. Addictea. It's hidden away in the tunnels of Underground Houston. It's genuinely hard to find. The star of the menu is the amazing Lemon Tea. It's spectacular. If you want a special deal on it, you can go after 3 (but before closing at 4 Mon-Wed or 5 Thu-Fri) each day, and it's a dollar or so cheaper. The chai, pink due to a variation straight from India, was delicious. Smooth, not overly sweet, and refreshing. The fries were well seasoned and hot enough to make me do The Thing. You know the thing (hafhafhaf) you do when the food is too hot to eat immediately but too yummy to wait? Yeah, that thing. The woman who helped us was so sweet and attentive.
