The drink itself was very large, but I wished it had a stronger tea taste. The tapioca was fine. - 3/5 Overall, there are better boba shops in the Heights, such as Feng Cha nearby. Ya'll.... I had to write an update b/c I originally gave this place 4 stars, and you absolutely don't go to a 4 star place on a weekly basis. Yes, this has been mine and my son's weekly Friday tradition for the past 6'ish months. I pick him up from school, and the first thing he says is, "mommy, guess what day it is is - it's Hella Bubble Day! Anyway, I've stuck w/ the Hella Bubble Deluxe like an old habit until I finally asked the employees what their fave was. I haven't perfected the additional toppings, but I'm really loving the Wintermelon milk tea. This was my first time visiting the Hella Bubble franchise and this location was smaller than I thought. There is completely no seating in the inside and just two chairs outside. However, the $7/drink was amazingly delicious and I think for the size, it's definitely worth it. But what made me not give the full 5 stars for this location was the service. I came here on Saturday, 09/10 and the staff had the most obnoxious look on their face. When I was asking questions regarding the menu and ordering, the girls looked really annoyed. The boba is bit expensive at ~$7 but I thought it would be worth it if it was good. The store's service was pretty quick and the size of the boba was good but my drink did not have much tea flavor. It seemed that my drink was mostly mango puree and milk. I felt like I was drinking some type of mango smoothie. I ordered 50% sugar and no ice because the employees said it would be cold without ice. However, I should have gotten less ice since my drink wasn't cold enough. The boba was a bit too mushy for my preference. I am used to and prefer boba that is chewy and coated with some honey so I did not enjoy the plain, soft boba. Below par is the best compliment I can give this place. The drinks I ordered were underwhelming & quite disappointing. I decided to get two drinks which are Mango Passion fruit green tea & Thai tea with lychee jelly. The mango passion fruit green tea was weak in terms of tea flavor, I felt that they were heavy handed on the syrup which took away the flavor of the tea. I was informed by the cashier that the Thai tea is already pre made because I wanted to adjust the sweetness level. I'm assuming that it's powdered. Taste wise it was just okay & it was too sweet for my liking. I should've ordered something else when the cashier said it's pre made. So then he was hungry, I was hungry as Wella, (Please no comments on my skill as a Speller), I said, there's this place where the Boba is Sweller, And I took him for some Boba from the Bubble named HELLA WHAT Unfortunately we had a very negative experience here. We are massive fans of the location near the Galleria, and of the owner, who also has locations over in San Antonio and maybe one or two more already open or on the way. But this one really rubbed us the wrong way. Long after COVID had died down in Texas, and I'm talking about 18 months after a lot of places stopped requiring masks, they still required masks according to a sign on the door, which is fine, but because I haven't been looking for those kinds of signs for a long time, since not even my mother's secret underground sex club requires masks anymore, I didn't realize. So we walked on in and were greeted with extreme hostility (i.e. I was yelled at by an employee in a mask LOL) for not having masks on. It was pretty quiet in here with nobody else in the store, so the yelling was... a surprise. Some would call it a raised voice, a firm tone, a Karen or Kevin would say I was flat out yelled at. So we were "yelled at" about the mask policy as if we were carrying a plague into the store. We hurried off to get a mask and tried not to act offended. When we came back we were treated with such disdain and anger, including both employees acting extremely passive aggressive and slamming things down on the counter and whatnot because we had walked in without masks. This all happened in 2022. We're extreme liberals, but it makes us very angry when Yelpers trash family businesses because they're "not enforcing masks" or when right wingers trash businesses because "they made us wear masks." We're not like that. Barbi doesn't like to be told to wear a mask when she's in full make up, but I never take a star off for it. However being yelled at and then treated like an enemy, long after everyone else stopped requiring masks, is too much. The milk tea came straight out of a tap (I assume it's supposed to) and didn't taste nearly as fresh or good as the ones we get (used to get) from Hella Bubble Galleria. The only reason I give them three stars is because I know that the location in The Galleria has good products and the owner is a wonderful guy. However, this location needs to have a word with its employees and I'm not sure if they intentionally made our drink bad, or they just don't make the tea fresh, but it didn't taste anything like the same product over at the original location, and I definitely won't be coming back to this location again. A lot of people look to me for Boba recommendations and I'd been recommending Hella Bubble to maybe hundreds of people for several years before this experience. I can only hope this sort of treatment and taste was an isolated incident. I know it's hard to find good help these days but this Karen and Kevin over here do not come to buy a $6 old-tasting milk tea from a pre-made container (I know everyone is doing it now but that doesn't make it a good thing), only to get yelled at. In other news - it's great to have more Boba shops in the Heights, and I'd still recommend this over Teapresso, for example. It would have been 1 star if I didn't love the owner, though. It's on the side of a shopping plaza next to a Subway (Kroger's is the large store there) It's fairly small so they are allowing one person/party in at a time and require masks (April 2021). But this was perfect. I didn't actually want boba (not a fan) but their boba was very chewy and soft so I enjoyed them. The fruit tea was a bit sweet for me so next time I will do less sugar. My top drink here is always the Hella Bubble Deluxe because of all the toppings that go with it, so it gives you the most bang for your buck. Very COVID friendly! Go inside and you will be greeted by the sweet smell of sugar and tea. The friendly cashier asked us if we had visited before, and he explained that the drinks hanging up on the wall behind him were the shop's signature drinks. He was patient as we were choosing our drinks. There were no size choices - only the equivalent of a large size drink at other boba shop chains. You can choose your ice and sugar level. The Hella Bubble Milk Tea, one of their signature drinks, is a brown sugar black milk tea with tapioca balls. The 100% sugar level was not as sweet compared to other boba shops - something that I really appreciated. I'm used to requesting 50% sugar for my drinks at other places, but the cashier recommended the full sugar version and I'm glad he did. One of my favorite boba spots around town! They have a ton of menu options that can cater to whatever you want! I normally get the standard milk tea, but have loved whatever I tried. The menu is slightly more expensive than other boba places I have been to, but it's nothing too crazy! The location also has a decent amount of parking and normally isn't too busy when I've gone! This place is not your typical Boba place and the tapioca had a different texture the ones I have visited (it was interesting but preferred a little less slime/can you do that with tapioca? ). Also, the employees seemed somewhat knowledgeable. I was wanting an Almond milk green tea (I also could've been asking for it wrong/teahouse knows my order) and they kept saying that all of their drinks were dairy free. Top of drink. They don't seal it like most of the Boba places like with a plastic waterproof sticker like lid. It was just a plastic sippee cup cover with a place for the big straw. Inside. If you want the worlds worst service & boba experience this might be a good spot for you. First when I arrived inside I was rudely "unwelcomed in". What I mean is as soon as I stepped in an employee looked at me with a snarky look & stated with a degrading tone of voice "you need a mask". And I responded that I did not have one. The employee then told me in a spiteful voice I need one or I had to leave. I asked if I can place an order and wait outside since I didn't have a mask and the employee quickly shouted "NO" while glaring at me blankly like I ran over his dog. I then asked politely if they had masks, like any business should that would require masks. At this point the employee was distraught he continued glaring at me looked around at the other employee that looked at me and told me "no we do not carry masks". Eventually said employee muttered quietly without confidence "you can go wait outside, call and we could bring it out." I was stunned at this response, I waited outside in the cold January weather. I called, I watched the employee who watched me and he didn't pick up the phone. I called again and he picked up using the same soft emotionless voice stating "what do you want". I placed my order. It took over 20 minutes to be completed. A different employee brought out the drink. As I drove home I drank it and I noticed The tapioca was stale and it was not warm like fresh tapioca should be at a fine Boba establishment. I kept drinking and tried to give it a second chance because I've heard of this place, and as I kept drinking it I noticed that the milk the milk tea just tasted very plain and bland, not a lot of flavor like it should have. Overall the drink was not good at all. This was by far the worst experience I ever had at a bubble tea shop. I don't think I saw crystal boba as a topping option on the menu. The drinks were good, nothing that stood out too much, but overall not bad. I personally thought the tea flavor and creaminess could have been stronger. My drink was still a little sweeter than expected, but I think the sweetness levels just differ across the boba shops. I think next time, I would want to try a fruit tea or the honey green milk tea with red bean. Bigggg fan of this place! The heights is lacking good boba tea places so I'm really glad Hella put a second location here. My favorites are the oolong milk foam tea and the Thai tea, but everyone loves their classic Hella Bubble milk tea. Tip: If you get the the oolong milk foam tea with boba, make sure use the little heart area to sip it in addition to drinking through straw.
