After dining in the area on a warm day full of walking, I decided boba would be a nice way to cool down. Since I recognized the TBaar name, I figured it would be the safest option for reliable, quality boba. I visited on a Friday afternoon and the shop was surprisingly empty, with the three workers apparently excited to have someone walk in the shop. The inside area is small and there is no seating available for those wanting to casually hangout while enjoying their drinks. The area didn't seem to be the safest considering the activity witnessed outside, so it is probably best to not offer seating. Since it was warm, I ordered a large matcha smoothie (75% sugar level) with tapioca along with a large piña colada smoothie (75% sugar level). I inquired about the "white pearl" on the menu thinking it was white tapioca but it was actually agar jelly so I opted out of that; the male worker seemed annoyed when I asked and responded minimally. The drinks were ready in about five minutes. The matcha smoothie did not have a deep green color I was expecting, usually indicating the drink was diluted or watered down, and I was correct. I was aware that TBaar did not specialize in matcha, but I would've expected more matcha flavor instead of mostly tasting sugar or milk/non-dairy creamer; the 75% sugar level chosen should not affect the amount of matcha used since matcha powder should not have sugar filler. The tapioca was a little too soft for my liking and it would've been nice to have a little more in the large cup. The piña colada smoothie tasted a little better but definitely tasted like it was flavored with artificial syrup. For the River North area, TBaar is a decent option for boba. However, for better quality boba I would consider traveling outside the area, especially if a place that offers safe casual seating is preferred. read more

We stopped by TBaar on a hot summer day and were pleasantly surprised. My wife had the lemonade with 50% sweetness, and I had the green tea with honey and aloe at 25%--both were perfectly refreshing and kept us hydrated during our 90-minute architecture boat tour. The drink was good! I usually order a standard boba milk tea at every new store I go to and Tbaar's definitely held up on my tier list! The milk tea tastes more like creamer but it reminds me of the Taiwan taste of 50lan so I enjoyed it a lot. Got it low sugar and thought it was perfectly sweet for me! I usually get 25% sweet when I order bubble tea... so I got honey aloe green tea here at 25% sweet. Unfortunately it tasted like it had no sweetness whatsoever and actually it tasted insanely bitter/bad. I kept checking the sticker to make sure I didn't accidentally pick up someone else's order and nope, it said honey aloe green tea at 25% sweet.... Not sure why it tasted so bad then. Service people weren't that helpful or nice (not rude either... so I'm basing this mostly on the taste of my tea) My friend got the taro smoothie at 75% sweet and said she felt spots were sweet and other spots didn't have sweetness at all, I assume it wasnt blended well enough? read more

I loved TBaar since the first time I tried it at the Chinatown location. I was living in that area for a while and had to restrain myself from getting it everyday. It had temporarily closed down for a while, so I wasn't able to visit for quite some time. Then I moved, and THIS location popped up?! It was definitely fate. The green milk tea at TBaar is by far the best I've had around, and trust me...I've tried a lot. My palate has changed over the years, and I really appreciate super fragrant milk teas instead of the ones that taste like all milk+sugar with just a hint of tea. I like to do 50% sugar as well, so it's more difficult to hide bad milk tea without the mask of sweetness. This place is going to see a lot of me when the weather gets warmer. We didn't go to the actual shop, but I was so excited to see that we could order drinks from here while at dinner at Kyuramen next door! TBaar located in Chicago is one of the best boba shops I have ever been in. The inside: For starters, the interior was super cute, very city like, and had nice lofi music. It is small, only about four customers can really be inside. But the design of the menu was very clear and simple, it was very clean, and had nice decor. From what I could see, the counters, the machinery, and the glass of all windows were kept clean on an hourly basis. The service: The nice gentleman who took my order was very sweet and kind. He definitely loved his job, and loved seeing smiles on his customers faces. The customer connect is very strong at this establishment. He read back my order to make sure that it was correct, and knew exactly how to answer my questions about their menu. He was very happy to be there. The boba tea: I ordered a brown sugar bubble tea with milk foam, and it was so amazing. It was visually stunning, which I complimented him on, and tasted like no other. This is definitely one of the best boba shops I have ever been into. And I go to a lot of boba shops! Overall opinion: I definitely appreciate the modern aesthetic that this shop gives. We came here unknowingly right before they closed. We got 2 drinks and two bao buns. The service was really fast, I was surprised. The taro milk tea was the best taro tea I've had. The bao buns were steamed nicely and not hard at all. The sauce on there was a mayo mix but had nice spice to it! I will definitely be back ! read more

I didn't realize until after we walked outside that this Boba place is related to the ramen chain next door, but I am happy to see a new boba spot open in a desert of boba options in River North. I recently went to Chicago for a week, and one of the first things I did was search for boba. Found TBaar on a whim and decided to try it, which was definitely a great choice! I am a huge fan of the brown sugar milk tea (it's on the sweeter side so I'd ask for 25% sweet if you don't have a sweet tooth). It also only comes in one size and is a bit small for the price, but the taste makes up for it. The drink itself was very caramelly and silky, and the boba was perfectly chewy. The normal milk tea is great as well. We ended up coming here 4 days in a row for our boba fix, and will definitely come back if we're ever in Chicago again! read more

The brown sugar boba milk tea isn't overly sweet like other places (if you get 100% regular sugar). A little pricey for the size but it's expected in the area. I am a huge fan of Tbaar and was excited to try this new location. This location is smaller and is designed for strictly counter service. It definitely did not disappoint. Similar to other locations, you have the option to customize your drink with more or less sugar and ice. Staff did not seem amused when I walked in. Came in about 20 mins before they closed. Ordered a passionfruit tea and it was overtly sweet. I was speaking to the employee about adjusting the sweetness while ordering and I guess she didn't change it. I tried the drink it was super sweet. This cute tea shop is awesome! Great service from the staff as a newcomer visiting my city! A variety of drinks to choose from! Came here for the Taiwanese desert w tapioca, shaved ice, taro, etc. they changed the menu and no longer have it. I tried ordering at the counter and they told me to use the machines.
