Every time I have Taz Matcha it's a hit. This was the first time I tried out their new location. I liked the interior better of their original location (traditional seating on tatami mats), however, having the outside chairs from the park was nice on a hot summer day. I got the Early Grey Matcha with soy milk and it was amazing! Earl Grey Matcha is probably my favorite matcha order and I'm so glad they had it when I went. I tried their strawberry matcha as well this day and that was also amazing- not too sweet. I got the Kagoshima matcha variety. It was a busy saturday and the line was out the door, but it went fast and the service was incredibly friendly. Whoever, was whisking the matcha up needs a raise because it was less than a minute from the time I ordered till the time I picked it up. Cute space that had the minimalistic simple Japanese aesthetic. Location was at first difficult to find amongst all the crowds during the World Cup. Hidden right on the main street even though map makes it feel like it's inside the mall. Loved the wide variety of matcha options. I ultimately went with the earl grey one which was different than the trendy (and delicious) banana and strawberry matchas. It was ok , a bit more earl grey forward than matcha which wasnt what I wanted and hoped for, so I'll have to go back again to try other options. The earl grey foam on top was good though! The drinks are still really solid. This review is purely an update on the new location: Taz has moved near the Sephora in downtown, and it's surprisingly hard to find at first. Signage is minimal, and the reflective tinted windows made me think it was still under construction. Maybe not the most strategic thing since you'd likely have passed Vale Matcha's cart on your way there... Also, if you're using Apple Maps, it'll still route you to the old location, so keep that in mind. The new space no longer has the low seating area I adored. I asked, and was told it's unlikely the low tea tables will return. I get the rationale (better flow, more seating, shorter lines outside, easier maintenance) but deep down, I can't lie about my disappointment. The new location has lost its original charm and now feels like a generic coffee shop. I also miss the bar seating, where you could watch your drink being made and have it handed to you on a little tray. Beyond the high-quality matcha, it was those small, intentional details that made it feel like the team had poured their heart into the space. Again, I completely understand that the old setup probably came with logistical headaches. I'm just sad to see this new location trade that soul for a more sterile design. read more

4.5 stars. Solid place. This is located in the heart of downtown (I accidentally walked right past it actually since the google directions were a little confusing). Difficult to get to if you want to park but if you're just in the area a worthy place to stop by. Inside is very simple, limited seating but several people working at the counter. I came during a weekday early afternoon and there was a short line to the door. They are very efficient and I tried the earl grey matcha (which comes with predeterminted sweetness and an optional cap so you do not have to choose). I chose the chiran matcha (after tax and tip, probably around $9-10), there is a floral type that is $1 more and a ceremonial grade that is double the price. I don't know too much about matcha so did not opt for any extras but you can add on an extra 2 g to your drink. The customization can get a little overwhelming if you don't know about the different types of sweeteners for example, and there is an upcharge for different types of milk. This was a very well made drink with beautiful layers and each drink is whisked and made with care. I will definitely try the strawberry matcha next time I come here. read more

I tried the Strawberry Matcha and stirred it a bit more thoroughly for my boyfriend and it was super yummy! He was very pleased and agreed it was probably the best Strawberry Matcha he has had. The Earl Grey flavor was sweet but not too sweet and amazing flavor that paired perfectly with the smooth high quality matcha. One of my favorite matcha spots on Seattle! I've been stopping by here and there for a drink before I head to work. You order through a kiosk (it's probably cashless) and can easily customize your drink. They only have 2 kiosks so if it gets busy, the shop can get a little crowded since it's not very big. There's only a couple seats at the counter and two tables on the tatami mats. And a public(?) restroom (no code or key required). But the employees are efficient and make the drinks pretty quick so I never have to wait long. I've visited right when they opened and also during the day, and they always seem to have customers so it definitely seems like the spot to go to if you're craving matcha! I've tried at least 3 of their drinks with different customizations and they have all been delicious! I highly recommend ordering your drink with oat milk for some extra flavor. I prefer my drinks on the sweeter side and they always make it just right with the matcha thoroughly whisked so no large clumps at the bottom of my cup. If you're dissatisfied with how they make your drink, just let them know (i think they're willing to fix it for you, based on a sign i read at the shop). I typically spend an average of $10 for a drink here due to my customizations but I think it's worth it for the quality. They have an online shop too if you want to order their matcha to make at home. If you enjoy matcha, I totally recommend stopping by! TAZ is hands down one of my favorite matcha spots in Seattle. As someone coming from the bay/tried uji matcha in japan , TAZ offers some solid ceremonial grade matcha. Both the strawberry and earl grey matcha with oat milk we ordered were perfectly creamy and rich in matcha flavor. You can tell they use high quality matcha since they hand whisk each drink and there are many flavor options you can customize for your drink. Very traditional Japanese ambiance but seating and parking is limited as it is in downtown Seattle. I do have to say price is a bit expensive at around $9-10/cup but very well worth it given rising costs+ comparable to other cafe drinks in the area. I get this as a treat every so often. Servers are very friendly and great at explaining menu items and you can purchase matcha bowls, whisks and matcha powders in store as well. Been hearing that Taz has the best matcha in Seattle, and although I'm not sure I agree just yet, I can confidently say that it's definitely a strong contender. I am SO glad to have finally tried it. Drinks: (5/5) They had a special blueberry foam/cream so I got that on top of a regular matcha latte with oat milk. To be honest, I was really nervous about this drink because blueberry flavors don't usually translate well outside of baked goods in my opinion. I was proven COMPLETELY wrong. My matcha had an extremely accurate blueberry flavor that paired perfectly with the earthiness of the latte itself. I assume the flavor comes from dried and processed blueberries because it looked like powder that was dusted on top of my drink. 100% recommend. To know me is to know I love matcha, so I always make it a point to make a matcha stop when visiting a new city. This cafe specializes in ceremonial-grade matcha & kept popping up when I searched for the best matcha in Seattle, so naturally I had to find out why. I visited on a Sunday morning. They open at 10 a.m. on Sundays & by the time I arrived around 10:40 a.m. there was already a short line out the door. Thankfully, it moved pretty quickly. I'm truly not used to chilly weather anymore (desert-living), so I was grateful not to have to wait out in the cold for too long. Ordering is done through 2 tablets, and the staff were clearly busy, so I didn't get to ask any questions. I had my heart set on the banana oat matcha, but it was sold out. A tragedy. So I opted for the earl grey matcha with almond milk instead. I like that the drinks are so customizable. You can choose your matcha profile (such as earthy or floral), adjust the sweetness level & caffeine strength, swap out flavors, etc. I kept mine mostly as-is, just subbed almond milk. The drink was SO good. I love earl grey tea, but never had it in a matcha latte before. My first sip caught off guard because it was bitter, but it was delicious once I mixed it a bit. The cloud top added creaminess & overall, the matcha was a balanced blend of the 2 teas. The place is very quaint & since it was so busy, it felt crowded. Most people seem to get their drinks to go, and I just felt bunched up as I waited for the drink. There wasn't much room to stand & everyone was getting in each other's way, lol. There's seating at the bar, where you can watch the baristas prepare the matcha, and a couple tables with traditional Japanese-style seating. There are also a few cute trinkets on sale, and I imagine it can be a very calming environment when it's less crowded. This might be my favorite matcha cafe in Seattle. I got the hojicha latte with a matcha cream top and the matcha strawberry latte. Both were incredible but the hojicha was my favorite by far. I will definitely be getting that one again. We also got super lucky because Kinokos House was doing a pop up there that day. I really love that this cafe supports local bakers by hosting events like this. We grabbed a slice of the black sesame basque cheesecake and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best cheesecake I have ever had. The crust was perfect and the inside was so creamy and soft. I've been on a mission to try all the Matcha places in Seattle and this one was next on my list. The decor is simple, zen and very Japanese. The seating area on the left requires you to take off your shoes and sit comfortably on the low tables. The bar is a relaxing setup to sip your matcha and take it all in while you can watch the barista whisk away at the matcha powder and prepare your tea. The only part that's a bit off to me is that they were playing pop music which doesn't quite fit the theme. I came here for the Superbowl weekend and they made their vanilla creme blue for the Seahawks which I thought was really cute! There was a line when we went but it went by super fast. The interior was so nicely decorated. There were people hanging out and people studying, but overall it was such a modern feel. My friend and I sat at the bar where they literally whisked our drinks in front of us. Service was great and the girlies were all friendly! The matcha itself was high quality.
