This is my go-to watering hole! To be blunt: a lot of bars/pubs in Canmore are kinda lame. Usually places have crappy drink/food menus, weird environment, and/or bad music. However, this is where the Tavern kicks all ass! Food: Delish! Everything that I have had from this place has been scrumdiddlyumptious! Special shout out to the Tuna Sandwich! It's a honking piece of tuna steak, and is super good! Drinks: Yes! Yes! Yes! Everything you can imagine is here. Most of their drinks are doubles and it is all well priced! They have a great specialty cocktail menu, so be sure to check that out. Best Caesar that I have had in Canmore goes to this place! Atmosphere: This place is always pretty hoppin. I was most recently there during Canada Day 2014, and the DJ was bangin! Super fun to dance to. The only con that I would have to say about this place is that on weekdays they close early. I felt not welcome here. As we waited to be seated nobody took notice of another pair since minutes and us. Two bored waitresses sat chatting at the bar and could see us. So we asked if somebody could help us. Than they told us help yourself. We went to a free table at the patio. There was a broken bottle with warm water . The waiter came not with fresh water just put glasses in the table . He seemed to be a little bit bored. We ask for special taste of beer but he didn't now their beers. Then we decided to go. Stopped by here on a whim a few weeks ago driving through Canmore. Service was good, waitress was friendly, and the place had a great atmosphere. Food was a bit slow coming out of the kitchen but certainly worth the wait. My friends got the Beer Battered Fish & Chips and Rafter 6 Cut Steak Sandwich, and I opted for the House Smoked Duck Linguine. All three tasted incredible, were cooked to perfection, and the presentation was beautiful. Price was also very reasonable considering the quality of the food. Would highly recommend! read more

Great meal after a long drive from Bozeman, I had a Tavern burger and my wife had fish tacos, both were delicious. The sweet potato fries with chipotle aioli were the perfect side. Good selection of local beers on tap and the deserts looked amazing, but will have to wait for another night (and a long hike!). read more

The food was bland. The burger fell apart instantly so we asked for a new one but it was equally as disappointing. We didn't get upset or angry and were entirely polite but the service made us feel like an inconvenience and unwelcome. The waitress not even so much as saying a farewell/goodbye after we payed, instead just walking away without a word. We ordered a beergarita, beer, fish tacos and the veggie burger. The veggie burger and sides were good but the fish tacos were really quite bad. The fish was barely there, veggies very basic and taco shells old and crumbly. I was pretty disappointed as it was $20 and I could honestly have made something better at home. We are local to the Bow Valley and have taken many friends and family to the Tavern. The drinks are good and the patio is nice and tucked away from the busyness of Main. The food is inconsistent, we have had a few dishes that we loved (duck nuts, pork belly tacos and for the kids the picky platter!) and then others, like the chickpea curry that are tasteless and boring. The service leaves a bit to be desired, we've had food come out hot and fresh and we have also had food come out inconsistently warm leaving us to believe it was microwaved. If you are looking for a drink and a relaxed atmosphere and aren't super concerned about what kind of food your getting, I would recommend the Tavern. read more

Short and sweet. As a new father of a 3 month old, I can say my choice of this establishment was likely a poor choice...that being said. I called. I asked specifically if the restaurant was family friendly and I even told them "I have a 3 month old baby". They said yes...come on down. So...we got there...they gave us the choice of tables. We chose. We sat...and sat...and sat and sat. 25 mins later, the waitress who was also clearing tables came and asked if we had a chance to look at the menu. We did, but because it took so long, we were leery of ordering mains. We ordered an appetizer (bruschetta) and said we would have the appetizer and see how the little man was doing....and then she just walked away. Things she didn't do: 1 - take a drink order 2 - come back for 20 more minutes 3 - when the appy came...she dropped it off and left. Again...no drink order. So...the appetizer...was great. I will say however, when you make an appetizer, I would suggest most times people order them to share. SOOOOO...that being said when you make a Bruschetta that is made in portions of three (3)...yes three. It makes it a little difficult to share. They seem to have some good deals on lunch as well as happy hour. However, nothing competes with the service. I went in to this place expecting bar food but I was wrong! There are so many delicious and creative options on the menu that are not typical of every other bar. I tried the salmon burger and the pork belly Mac and cheese. They were both great but the Mac and cheese is seriously next level. Would considering driving from Calgary to Canmore just to eat it for dinner. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Disappointing.....We ordered the falafels & the chicken burger. The falafels were completely tasteless, hard & dry. They came with a tiny cup of tasteless tzaziki. The chicken burger was covered in spicy aioli and super spicy bacon. It was our fault for ordering such a hot burger but it would have been nice if our waitress had said "you know it's a spicy menu item, right?" instead of saying (after we took our first bite) "yeah, I can't even touch that bacon it's so spicy!" My personal favorite place to go for a drink or two with my buddies! Starting with The Trashcan!!! I've been ordering this drink since the day one it came out! Blue Curacao, Peach schnapps, Vodka, Cointreau Triple Sec and RedBull! For $9 - bring it on! or if I wanted to be a little more mellow: Kronenbourg White Beer! The sweet potato fries - yummy! good snack for two! House salad: Spring mix, tomato, cucumber, dried cranberries, pea shoots and a mint & lemon dressing all that for a pricey $10,83 + $4,83 to add chicken Quite small portion also but hey! it's excellent in your mouth! I didn't really had a good big meal from the rest of the menu except few bites from my friend's plate here and there... I find it little pricey for overall but it's all good! :) If you feel for partying... Go when it's DJ Allnitemike for a groovy techno beat! Ask for Luc or Sam! Reasonably priced for Canmore. Great variety in the food AND drink menus. Patio is nice and over looks a park, but not a great view of the mountains. Its a very friendly place to visit in the summer if you are new the area and looking to make friends. We are not keen on their "DJ nights" and wish they would stick to live music instead. Especially for the weekends. Their food is like pub food with a classy twist - many gluten free options available as well if you're into that. Yam fries, deep friend pickles and tacos are all great. My personal fav is the Lamb Burger, and the Iceberg Lettuce Salad - not something that I usually order, but honestly, best salad ever. They make a good ceaser, and its a great place to get local brews from Grizzly Paw Brewery with your meal, without having to eat at the grossness of the actually Grizzly Paw restaurant. The service here was good, staff were attentive and pleasant. The food prices were slightly high for portion size. Quality of food was good with some adventurous flavours. We ordered Cesar's which tasted good except the menu advertised that they came with meat, cheese, olive, onion and bean garnish and none of them had the cheese. The wings were top notch. The Valentina mayo that comes with the sweet potato fries is dynamite. If you're a vide head you'll appreciate the sous vide chicken and lamb offering. What an awesome place! Just had a girls weekend and we ended up here one night. Food was good. Our waitress was awesome. Not a huge selection of eats but enough to choose from and some different choices as well (I am not brave in trying new or weird things so that narrows down the menu for me unfortunately). We absolutely loved the feel of this place and how fun when the DJ showed up at 10pm and people hit the dance floor! There seemed to be all ages there so us mid 30's ladies didn't look too out of place ;) We actually stayed until it closed. Haven't done that in over 10 years! Would definitely go back and look forward to taking the hubs so we can dance a bit. read more

Fantastic service, delicious food, large selection of beers and cocktails. We tried this place after being turned away from a different restaurant for not having reservations and these guys sat us immediately. Our server was friendly, made good recommendations, and our food came out of the kitchen super fast. The view from the patio is gorgeous, and even though it was a cold day they have warming lamps all over to keep patrons warm and comfortable. This was an excellent experience, and I will definitely come again on our next visit to Canmore. read more

Try the Brussels sprouts! They have a little meat on them, so they aren't for everyone. Would have been better without the sauce, though. It was just too much. The lamb burger is excellent. We strolled in for lunch one day after arriving. We had the tavern burger and chicken sandwich and both were really good. The portions were good. The quality of the meat on both was excellent! The chicken breast was large, juicy and perfectly grilled. Came back the next day and had the same thing as they were lunch specials served with a side and a drink. They also have live music at times in the evening and a late night menu. We tried the wings on the late menu and they were yummy (breaded is not our favorite, but these were good but could have been crispier). This place is worth what you pay for the meal! Firstly, what a lovely location and beautiful outlook. Atmosphere feels cosy and warm. Lady who greeted us was wonderful and she then often checked in on us, which was great as I was there with my two children after a long day. She made us feel very welcome. I SO wanted this place to be a WIN! It was so lovely looking, and care had clearly gone into the way the restaurant was designed and the way it looked and felt, and I enjoyed the ambiance very much. I sat there thinking 'wow this is a completely lovely place to be, can't wait to eat after so many excellent reviews.' However, 1. Waiter left us for large periods of time, and at one stage completely forgot to bring us something we'd ordered. 2, I think the 3 main burgers we'd ordered were microwaved. There were no grill marks or any caramelized pan marks at all. The meat was pasty and grey, and full of fat and gristle. Not good. Accompaniments with the meal were small and paltry and looked and tasted very unsavory. 3. Kids meals were pretty ok, which was redeeming, however hugely expensive for what it was. 4. Cocktails weren't nice. Just weird tasting. 5. Did I mention the burgers seemed like they were microwaved? 6. Got overcharged by our waiter, which no one noticed, and were happy to charge us, until I spoke to the manager who said 'oh he must not have know what to charge you, so he put this in'.... (Huh???) Fortunately she removed this charge. 7. The Brussel Sprouts were the only redeeming feature. They were pretty spot on. All in all, an interesting evening.
