I've heard of this place for over 7 years and how AMAZING it is. The hype is understated! It is the REAL DEAL! This is a destination potato experience! So it has a drive thru and you can phone in an order, BUT GO IN to capture the humor ALONG a great satisfying meal!! Explore the walls, nooks and crannies! It is kind of divey, but cute and clean! Restrooms are well maintained as well as the rest of the place! I ordered the mythical Pot Roast Potato. The flavorful beef, sweet carrots, shredded cheese plus the butter flavor made this an unforgettable experience! Usually, never enough potatoes with a pot roast, not here! It also has a couple of small tasty corn muffins. Also ordered a potato with broccoli and cheese WOW! Prices are very reasonable! Bottled as well as fountain drinks plus tea. They also have a lot of desserts. The menu is huge! It even has hot dogs! Plenty of parking, easy to get in and out of, staff is very helpful plus exceptionally friendly! Called my order in and picked up at drive through window. Was ready in 5 mins. My Santa Fa Tator was the weeks special and was piled high. It came with a free drink. Coconut cream pie was the bomb. Excellent service with a smile. read more

I ordered the pot roast potato on the recommendation of the sweet girl working the counter . Very good and filling . Place is really cute and clean . I like that they have an American flag hanging in their business and pictures of Jesus and Mary although I think they should move them out of the corner and more where you can see them . My niece has me stop here several times a week after school so much so that we pull up and they know her order. Well I finally had my own tater! I can see why she loves it so much. The potatoes are huge!! I had the steak tips without cheese/sour cream. It was delicious. The steak was tender but honestly it was too large to finish. The best potato I've ever had. The food is INCREDIBLE. There are so many options, so you can get a bunch of different stuff on a potato, or you can get nachos or hot dogs. This place is nasty. I wasn't totally sure what to expect, but once my order came out I politely refused and said that I just could not eat that simply based on looks. I won't disgust you with what I thought it looked like, but.... imagine your worst. Maybe it was a one off, bad experience, but in the food business... you get one shot with a new customer and you lost this one. read more

I will confirm the amount of chicken they put in is small. But the potatoes are freaking gigantic. I was well full. I immediately noticed a trend on the menu. It said 'margarine' to start off. I never eat fake butter so I asked them to leave it off. I'm glad I did after then reading reviews here. Potatoes are huge. Good warm comfort food. Especially on a cold rainy night. We've been coming here for years and years. Mike and his crew are always friendly. Usually get ours to go and the service is fast and accurate. Tried several different types of their taters. The Chicken Pot Pie, so creamy and delicious! The Pot Roast is always homey, comforting and delicious! But we keep going back to our fav's, The Santa Fe (with white cheese instead of shredded) and the Spicy Chicken (with extra chicken). All the flavors go well together and it's very good and very filling. Would really like them to convert over to real butter, margarine (fake butter) is so much more unhealthy for you. Love them Tater's though!! Update: They now offer real butter! There's an up charge but we feel it's worth it. Thanks TS! read more

I'll start by saying I've eaten here since they opened many many years ago. Never have had a bad tater. However, tonight, I ordered take out, the #16 Santa Fe Tater. It's suppose to come with chicken. Their chicken has always been cut/sliced chicken, in 1 1/2-2" strips. In the photo attached, you can see that it looks like, as best to be described from appearance, cat food. This is not their norm by no account. So I called In immediately. I was handed over to a manager named Santana. After my concern and complaint, she asked if got what I ordered. Uh! Absolutely not! Then went on to say, it's the same shredded chicken they've always served. With no concern whatsoever, and really just trying to end our conversation, I told her it was obvious she didn't care so I'd just post a picture and leave my review. She told me to have a good night. Wow! With that attitude, unless Mike, the owner, wants to intervene and reply to my post, Tater Shack is no longer an option on our menu for "what's for dinner"! This was unacceptably handled and there are too many other choices in town to spend my money at. read more

Very disappointed in this place. I live in White Bluff and I placed an order for the one in Dickson as the one in White Bluff was not open. As we had we proceeded to make our way all the way to the restaurant, we received a phone call to tell us they were out of POTATOES!! This is the best idea ever! Food came out very fast and they have a great menu selection! I got the buffalo chicken tater and I am stuffed ! Inside was clean as a whistle and staff was very friendly. First off this place had me so excited I haven't seen but one other tater place like this.. The service was quick (that got em the stars) I had the spicy chicken tater which gets 1 star.. Had like 5 very small pieces of chicken in it (maybe enough to satisfy a 6 yr old) the spicy cheese was nice but the cup of melted butter was overwhelming.. My fiancée got the tater soup.. 0 stars.. If you like butter as a drink with a hint of cheese you'll buy all they have, if you like soup you will be mad, very. Our daughter got the tex mex tater.. It was nice all around minus the excessive butter... People if you want this kind of dinner or lunch and have time.. I strongly suggest Praters Taters in Paris tn.. They even sell me potato heads in huge varieties lol. I rarely do bad reviews but this upset me.. Guess Praters set the bar to high for tater dining :( read more

If your a health nut do not consider this place but if your a person who occasionally eats something really really good that is not good for you then this is the place for you. My only complaint is they have really werid hours and close the shop down for odd things like graduations. I have went their needing a tater shack fix and got disappointed and they have been closed a couple of times. Otherwise their taters are huge, loaded and a lot of bang for your buck. Just don't jump on the scale after eating one! My favorites from there is the BBQ potato, and the tex mex tater. If you have a big appetite you can eat one but if a whopper Jr at B-king fills you up then you can easily share one. If your looking for something unique that is not a chain this is your place. The tater was good. Got the broccoli and cheese. It had plenty of cheese and broccoli and the potato was huge. The service on the other hand was horrible. The lady at the register was rude. I ate there and was watching her and it seemed the guys she was real friendly but the females she was rude.
