Came here while I was fully down bad with bronchitis and had completely lost my voice, and honestly... this Tom Yum soup did exactly what it needed to do. The soup was bright, comforting, and packed with flavor; that perfect balance of sweet and sour with tomatoes, herbs, mushrooms, and lemongrass. It felt nourishing without being heavy, and every spoonful was warm, soothing, and deeply comforting. Exactly what you want when you're sick and just trying to feel human again. The flavors were bold but not overwhelming, and it somehow managed to be both cozy and refreshing at the same time. Tasty Thai has been one of our go to spots since 2020. I've never actually been inside because my husband always handles pickup, but he's basically friends with the staff at this point. They even have one of his posters on the wall. They really love him there and he always talks about how friendly and genuine everyone is. The food is consistently amazing. On this visit we ordered the pad Thai with beef, which is always a hit. Make sure to mix it well because a lot of the sauce settles at the bottom. They load it up with fried egg, tofu, and bean sprouts, and the flavor tastes really authentic. They also give you different chili on the side so you can adjust the heat to your liking. We tried the boat noodle soup for the first time and really enjoyed it. It came with more noodles than we needed because we prefer more broth, but the flavor was rich and there was plenty of beef and meatballs. We also ordered the lunch prik khing chicken. It came with a generous portion of rice and the chicken was full of flavor with green beans, bell peppers, and carrots. I was super skeptical of a place called Tasty Thai but thought it can't be that bad. The complete opposite, the food was tasty and some better Thai food that have had in awhile. I ordered for take out and though it took about 20 minutes it was worth the wait. The tofu panang curry $13,95 was really flavorful and ran on the sweeter side. But I liked it a lot. The tofu pad Thai $13.95 was plentiful and noodles had great texture. The packaging was great as well. The utensils were packed in a separate bag so didn't get messed up. Service was friendly. I decided to stop by this (literal) hidden gem after picking my parents up from the airport. I've passed by this restaurant so many times without ever knowing it existed! We got there around 7 pm last night and they still seated us even though they close at 8 pm. The hostess was super lovely and kind. It seemed like she knew a few of the people that came in for takeout and dine in which was a very positive sign for me that we picked a good place to have dinner at! It's also very clean, nice, and cozy inside. We ordered the pad thai to share, the #29 with chicken, and veggie rolls. Everything was delicious! I talked to the hostess after our meal and she let me know that everything is freshly made to order and nothing comes from a jar. When I walked in, it immediately felt like home. I'm part Lao and Thai, and the interior reminded me of my grandma's house so it really took me back! My boyfriend and I were seated right away and warmly greeted by our waitress. She was so kind, friendly, and accommodating, which really set the tone for the meal. We started with the Calamari appetizer perfectly golden, crispy, and served with a unique sweet & sour sauce. It wasn't the usual egg roll dipping sauce; this one was a bit darker, richer, and had an umami depth that stood out to me a lot For entrées, we ordered the Thai Basil Fried Rice and the Prik-King Tilapia(both at Thai spicy level so def only order if you can handle heat!). The flavors were sooooo incredible it was bold, authentic, and packed with spice. Everything is served family-style, but we learned that during lunch hours the portions are more personal-sized. The portions overall were very generous, so we ended up taking a lot home. No complaints though since it means more to enjoy later! As someone who isn't a Sacramento native, I can confidently say this has become my favorite Thai spot so far. We tried our best to eat some because we were starving after walking 45 minutes there, having parked our car a few blocks down for service. Only the roti and coconut ice cream were edible. Dropped by Tasty Thai one evening, craving some authentic Thai food. While my meal was flavorful, it felt modernized to suit the American palate. My Thai boat noodles were good but lacked the rich depth of pork blood that gives the dish its signature taste. Similarly, the papaya salad was missing the bold, pungent flavor of fermented fish sauce that defines the dish. I understand these flavors aren't for everyone, but in my opinion, they are what make these Thai dishes so iconic. The first time I ever went to Tasty Thai was about 4 years ago, I remember it was good but for some reason I just never made it back. Recently, I went again and I cannot believe it took me this long to return because it was so good! I had the Thai Basil Stir Fry with chicken, Red Curry with Chicken, side of Jasmine rice & an iced Thai tea. The Thai Basil was full of veggies and basil! Surprisingly I've been to other Thai restaurants where there's no visible basil in their Thai Basil dishes. This was not the case with Tasty Thai so I was definitely a fan of that. The Red Curry was flavorful and had the perfect consistency. 10/10. The Thai Tea was standard and a yummy addition to the meal. The waiter, who I believe was one of the owners, was friendly and attentive. And the food came out fast. There were other parties in the restaurant at the same time as me but it didn't slow down the orders coming out. It was a Wednesday night, so I couldn't say how it is on a weekend. Small, cozy restaurant- the star here is the food! Parking can sometimes be tough as there's limited spaces with some at a weird angle. Plus other businesses right next to the restaurant also use the same parking lot and it's tiny. However, this isn't a deterrent for me, more something to keep in mind. The family that runs this is so kind. The food is to die for and I'm serious if I died and that was my last meal I would die VERY PLEASED! Also, please try their Thai tea. It's amazing. I love this place so much, so why am I giving three stars on this updated review? First, it's like winning bingo to get through on the phone. I had to call 12 times. Either the call failed, it's busy, or goes straight to voicemail during business hours. Because this is my favorite small restaurant for Pad Thai, I persevered. And the Pad Thai was excellent. But my $11 Tasty Thai salad was not. There is absolutely no dressing, so I basically got a very dry bag salad with a very dry vegetables and baked tofu (I think). I am at home now, so it's not worth me driving back for the salad dressing. Without their special dressing this is basically a bag salad for a lot of money. I tried to call but again after five tries I am giving up someone forgot to add the salad dressing :(. On another note: I did not realize they were doing dine in again. They close at two for lunch so they may have been busy, but it has always been hard parking over here. Now there is a taco place on the corner and there's even less parking, and people are parking on the curb where there isn't really a parking space so that you cannot get in and out of the few lots that there are. Probably the best Thai food in the Arden-Arcade area. You cannot go wrong with any of the Basil dishes or the curries, they are all outstanding. On my last visit, I had the Tom Kha (Coconut Hot & Sour Soup) and the Angel Wings, I had never tried either dish anywhere before. Because you're all cool like that, you already know it's Asian Pacific Islander Heritage month. And you're thinking, could there possibly be a better time to visit some of my favorite API restaurants? Or to discover new ones? No. There could never be a better time. Go now. And then go again, soon. This was my second visit to Tasty Thai. It's not like I didn't like the food on my first visit, it was just like I wasn't wowed. I might never have returned had I not read my friend Michael W's review. He rates the place as one of his favorites. So I gave it another try tonight. I actually tried to eat here last night but I forgot Tasty Thai is still a takeout only operation. I walked in at 5:10 and was told there was already about a 30-40 minute wait for a take out order. Really appreciated that honest estimation. I was way too hungry to hang around, so I bailed. Called ahead tonight and ordered up some Thai Curry Noodles with Chicken. So freaking good. Instantly I knew whatever I ordered my first visit was just the worst possible thing to order. I have an uncanny ability to look at a menu and order their weakest dish. It sucks because obv I am not trying to do that. But not this time. This time I picked from the Tasty Thai Specials section of the menu. That's why this visit was so much better than my first. But they have a seven special dishes. And each dish has like a whole paragraph description. Which is super helpful and cool and everything, but it's way too much reading for me. I always struggle with menus. I find them annoying. I just kind of order whatever I first focus on. Looking at this menu the Thai Curry Noodles was looking right back at me. It was perfect because it was third from the top, saving me from having to read the names of the other four dishes. How good are the Thai Curry Noodles? Like freaking transcendent. It wasn't just the silky smooth curry, with that depth of flavor that makes your eyes roll back in your head. It's the vegetables in the curry. I mean, each vegetable is cooked absolutely perfectly. A wonderful selection of perfectly cooked vegetables. And you can taste the flavor of each vegetable individually. They don't all kind of blend together as they do in less well executed dishes. Since I didn't read the description of the dish I was surprised it had rice noodles. Perfectly cooked rice noodles that made it back to the hotel still hot. Tasty Thai got the To Go Order thing locked down tight. Whole dish was just luxuriously delicious. Rich and filling. I barely finished half the order tonight. Already looking forward to my next visit. Wait, Did I mention how good the vegetables in the curry were? I did? Ok then. Because, yeah.
