I love some Taste Unlimited!!! No place better to grab a bite to take down to the beach with you...just perfection! So why dont the stars reflect the love? Well, this location is, by far, wayyyyyy at the bottom of the list. Every single time I have come in here, there is some sort of issue. Back in the day it used to be the staff, but they have gotten much better. Nowadays it usually has to do with the other customers/parking/ordering situation. Sometimes it is a combo of all three. For instance, on my last visit some yuppie woman blocked the ENTIRE parking lot with her giant AUDI. This is the second time i have been here that someone pulled in and made the center of the (very tiny) parking lot their own personal driveway. Both times they had called ahead so were just "running in to pick up" but it doesnt usually work that way. Also, just because you call your order in does NOT mean you get to jump ahead of everyone in line who is waiting to pay. You have to wait in line just like everybody else! And dont even think about parking at the little strip mall next door. Mr. Pelon will tow, tow, tow you away in a minute. (I am not a hater of Mr. Pelon, this is just a cold hard fact) I had to dash outside one day to move my car and the tow truck driver was totally joking me. Then i went right into Mr. Pelon's place and bought some guacamole ( I dont hold a grudge) and he talked to me all about the real estate prices. Now I knew to keep an eye on my car , but some people are probably not so lucky. Moral of the story= dont park next door. Also the ordering system in here, which is pretty much the exact same as all other locations, seems to be very tough for people to grasp. Though, honestly, sometimes i think the staff could do a little more to sort of nudge the confused people in the right direction esp. older customers who seem quite overwhelmed. One day there was this really long line to pay, and a bunch of people kept waiting in that line to order..and they would get to the front of the line and then the workers were like "this is where you pay" and then the people were really frustrated and ughhhh it was just a mess. Though there are signs directing you, but things just do not seem to go as smoothly here as say, Hilltop or Bayville. Even though Bayville was like the size of a bathroom, people knew the drill in there. So I am all for calling in an order to this location but I will definitely be doing the buying instead of the flying. The Food, is great as always and if you could ride your bike or walk, it really is very little issue. read more

I've been an avid fan of Taste Unlimited since I was about nine years old, having grown up in the heart of Virginia Beach. They have been around for decades and have since grown to multiple locations. I rarely make a trip to VB without stopping for a bite at their beach location off Pacific Avenue. Hands down, their two best sandwiches are the turkey sandwich on french, and their chicken salad. One must not forget the reason why Taste is, well Taste. Their famous "house dressing" might be the best dressing I have ever tasted. It makes any ordinary sandwich taste ten times more delectable. They also have an outstanding wine selection and even make gourmet gift baskets that are perfect for someone special. Taste Unlimited has sure come a long way since I was a child, but it goes to show that they must be doing something right - by keeping their house dressing recipe a secret that is! read more

My wife is from Virginia Beach and a trip to Taste is required every time we come down from DC to visit her family. It's a craft beer/craft food kind of place. There will be stuff in there from local/small companies and the restaurant is full of special sauces, nuts, snacks, etc. I was introduced to my favorite chocolate here, Triple Nut Temptation by Chuao Chocolates. Beware the prices of these things though, tags generally aren't on the items and you'll be price-shocked once you get to the register. My wife and her mother generally get the Hilltop which is turkey, lettuce, tomato and house dressing. They love the house dressing and get it on the side so they can dip their sandwiches in it and get the perfect amount of dressing with their bites. I'm a fan of the Freemason - chicken salad with bacon...YUM BACON...lettuce and tomato. Everything can be customized so I add prosciutto to my sandwich and then get regular and HOT house dressing on the side. The Hot isn't too hot but adds a nice little kick to the sandwich. Plan on spending around $10-12 per person for sandwiches and drinks. The free samples at the door on most days is great too - yesterday I tried Tate's mint chocolate chip cookies and a stout white cheddar cheese...tasty! We'll be back the next time we come down to VA Beach! read more

Really disappointed with this place! I don't personally buy from Taste, but my in-laws do and have mentioned that at times their orders are not always correct. I know we all make mistakes and things won't always be perfect, but to forget a sandwich is just ridiculous. We ordered at least 8 sandwiches and a salad in a cup and even that had things missing! *Oceanfront Location* Taste is not the place to go if you don't have the time to wait and want your to-go order to be correct once you arrive home. They are incredibly inefficient in their ordering and delivering process. Once the cashier takes your order, there is no rhyme/reason to when it is filled. I waited 25 minutes for two sandwiches, two salads, and two cups of soup and watched 7, who arrived after me, pick up their orders before mine eventually came. Unfortunately, a tip is requested when placing and paying for the order. I recommend holding off until you ensure your order is correct and done in a timely fashion. One of the customers requested butter with her bread (it was not automatically given). I asked if she had added the butter to my order. Without checking, the cashier assured me that it had (she had not included the butter). When asked why it took so long, the cashier responded that they had to cook the soup (at 2 pm). At the time of this writing, only one item has been eaten ~ Taste did not make it correctly; they left off the lettuce. read more

Sandwiches were 5 star. Really really good. But the service I received was horrendous and rude. First, while ordering I was told repeatedly to repeat my order. No big deal, really it isn't. Than when I got my food it had the wrong sides. Again, not too big of a deal, switched them out and moved on. Lastly, decided to get the family gelato for dessert. Ordered each of us something different. Turns out 2 of 3 that I got were completely wrong. First, they had an "old" label out so that flavor I received was completely wrong and they ended up not having it. (This was after a lengthy discussion behind the counter between manager and employee as they kind if laughed about the situation that they'd have an old sign out). Still no big deal, but than when I asked for them to be replaced they acted as if I had done something wrong. They also took back the two wrong flavored gelatos I had in my hands and had already tried. At this point, I was assuming they'd just given them to me. But I guess not. And they definitely don't have to. But it's not like they can reuse it you know? Just left a very very sour taste (pardon the pun) In my mouth of the service there. Also, after I had originally got my gelato, I couldn't pay for it there and than. I had to go back to the end of the other line(sandwich line) and wait to pay for what I didn't know at the time was the wrong product. Awesomeness!!!! :) Place is clean and meet which I loved. But the service and one of the managers/expedited behind the counter also telling me to go back to the end of the line because he doesn't know how to use the register is just plain lazy or whatever you want to call it. read more

I like Taste for many reasons... One is that they are clean and the menu choices vary enough to satisfy s carnivore and a vegan. Second, the food quality always seems good. My kids had the red pepper Gouda soup while I had a monstrous Caesar salad. Everything came with a large baguette. I was stuffed. My kids were still hungry though and they should have added something with the soup. I heard no complaints among the meat eaters in the group. There were slices of a 7 layer dessert being shared that was thick and decadent for even a small slice. I think everyone likes the ice tea and I noticed many in the room drinking root beers and such. VB's got Taste. If you're a VB local, chances are you're obsessed with Taste Unlimited. I've been going to the sandwich shop for as long as long as I can remember- back in elementary school my teachers used to order lunch from the place almost daily. There's a number of locations in the area, all equally delicious, some even with their own farmers' market stands. Did I mention there are free samples? Maybe it's just me, but give me free food, even a single tortilla chip, and you're already off to a good start. The sandwich list goes on and on, all with cute names that are an homage to local landmarks, but my go to is the Greenbrier... granted I switch out the multigrain bread for sourdough and the aoili for light house dressing (whatever you get, get it with house dressing.) Once you pick a sandwich, it's off to the drinks. I always go for a diet Dr. Brown's black cherry soda, but there are a ton of other specialty drinks and beers as well. If you're looking to add more to your meal, there's a pretty good selection of sides, chips, and desserts, not to mention a bunch of other items in the gift shop/market. If you're looking for a dessert, I recommend the olive oil and sea salt gelato. It's definitely not for everyone, but it's worth a try. The sandwiches aren't cheap and it's not unheard of to run into a little bit of a wait, but I definitely think it's worth it. VB would not be the same without Taste. read more

Chef summer special #2: Grilled summer squash with arugula, whipped goat cheese, tomatoes and house made green goddess dressing... add an avocado to that and you have a bangin' ass wrap for lunch! I was very pleased with my second visit to Taste by the beach. And with all the skinny-minis walking around in their itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikinis, I convinced myself sacrifices had to be made to have bodies like that! So no... I did not get a chance to indulge in some gelato... BUT... that wrap was totally worth it! Gelato freezer down otherwise I would give 5 star. My picky kids got chicken breast. Otherwise you can get obj' for your kids. I got the princess Ann vegetarian sand which put in wrap. The tomatoes in it were yummy. They also I have wall of wines, gifts, etc here too. I love that their fountain soda isn't a coke or Pepsi machine. They close at 7. We walked here but not sure where you would park. Oh and their seats are metal. They get cold. So if you have kids that complain then bring in their towel or something to put on seat. Upon first getting to Virginia Beach for a family vacation I immediately began my search for a good lunch spot. I came across Taste. I saw a few keywords that sold me - "artisan sandwiches" and "local craft beer on tap." I make it my personal mission to imbibe on local brews when I hit a new area away from home, and Taste seemed to have the goods. It's safe to say I feel about the same for Taste as I do toward my beloved Sesame Burgers and Beer in the Holy City. Good, fresh, hand-crafted food paired with killer craft beer. I had the Princess Anne sandwich with a Sweet Baby Jesus from Duclaw brewery. The sandwich was fantastic. Everything was super fresh, and it was bursting with flavor. My wife had their take on a Caprese Sub which was delicious also. Not only does Taste have local beer on tap, but they also have bottle selections, so of course my wife and I loaded up on bottles to take back to our hotel room. They have a few Taste locations around Virginia. If I'm ever near one again I will not hesitate to stop. read more

I love this place and wish we had one close to home. The sandwiches are unique and delicious, freshly prepared served on soft bread. My favorites are the Tidewater (chicken salad w/ country ham and swiss) and the Northender (turkey w/ bacon, avocado, harvarti). Half-sandwiches are around $7; full are $9. Last visit, I created my own salad and fell in love with the green goddess dressing -- herbs and full of flavor. Treat yourself to their house iced tea. A solid go-to sandwich and soup place. I prefer the one near the beach to the one in Norfolk for some reason. I really enjoy the Tidewater sandwich which is unlike anything I have ever had before. It's a great place to take out of town guests if you need to keep it safe and want to impress with a local chain. They are really generous with samples and have great iced tea. read more

Excellent place for lunch. Great submarine sandwiches on homemade bread and very fresh ingredients. I recommend the Northernder, but they all looked good. They are reasonable priced, especially for the beach. The also have a wide selection of gourmet sodas. I highly recommend the Sprecher brand. Dessert was homemade Gelato. There are lots of flavors to choose from. When in Virginia Beach you have got to go hear for lunch. read more

Great sandwiches made from fresh ingredients! It's a little pricey but definitely worth what you pay. I got a club sandwich ( don't remember the specific name) but it was amazing. I love how the sandwiches are also named after local areas-nice touch. They also have a retail section where you can buy sides and drinks. It's decorated really cute as well. I ordered delivery, a simple signature sandwich with chips, and they told me it would come within the hour. It has now been 1 hour and 40 minutes and my order has still not arrived. Would have never ordered had they informed me how long it would actually take. Unbelievable, a delivery should never take two hours. read more

We had lunch at Taste Unlimited this afternoon, and we thought the place was great. When you walk in, it feels like a modern deli with a few bonuses. When I walked in, I immediately noticed their wine selection, which was impressive. They offered traditional sandwiches with local offerings (such as crabcakes), gelato and speciality items (varieties of salted nuts and desserts). We opted to stay for a late lunch. The dining room area was very clean. We had our children with us, so I was relieved to find a highchairs (yeah - kid friendly rocks!). I ordered the Chesapeake Crabcake sandwich. As far as crabcake sandwiches go, it wasn't the best that I've ever tasted, but it definitely met my critial for a 'good' one. 1) You could taste the crab; I hate crabcakes that are more breading than crab; 2) The sandwich was a generous size (larger than my fist); 3) The roll was made of good, quality bread. NOTE: I prefer a thin roll for my crabcakes, but I don't mind a larger roll as long as the roll is of quality bread. If the bread is stale, crumbly or too hard, just don't bother putting the crabcake on anything; just eat it as is. My husband ate the Virginia Bistro, which is prosciutto, turkey, ham, provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and vinagrette on flatbread. If I didn't eat the crabcake, I would have had this sandwich. I had a bite of my husband's meal, and it was delicious. The meat tasted fresh, the bread was good, and the vinagrette didn't overpower the sandwich. We ordered two Kids' Class sandwiches for the kids: turkey with cheddar and ham with cheddar. The sandwiches were perfect for the kids: 1) they were crustless; 2) they were much smaller in portion size; 3) they were tasty. The kids actually ate everything all up with minimal bribery. Yeah! As a special treat, we got a small mint chocolate-chip gelato that we split between our group. Truth be told, I wasn't thrilled with it. If it were only a chocolate-chip gelato, it would have been perfect, but I don't like mint in my ice cream (just my preference). My daughter requested it. The group loved it; I thought it was edible (as far as mint gelato goes). We considered buying one of their famous gourmet gift boxes (of nuts), but we ran out of time. One suggestion for improvement: I had to change my son's diaper, and I was disappointed to find no changing area in the bathrooms. Now, the single-person bathroom was impeccably clean, but as a parent, I really need that cheapie diaper-changing station. As a basic rule for any establishment, if you're going to stock your dining room area with highchairs, you should also stock a changing station in each bathroom. Don't go halfway when it comes to family-friendly dining, please. Other than that last item of note, I thought the place was great. We'd definitely return. read more

This is a great place for breakfast or lunch an upscale market and cafe. Very cool and lots of selections. They offer breakfast sandwiches all day and well as a variety of cool lunch sandwich and quick grab stuff if your heading to the beach. They also have wines as well. The only caveat is it is a little pricey. Especially for some of the pre made salads. However the freshness of everything is worth it. They also have lots of cool food products to bring back as healthy souvenirs. Only open til 7pm so don't go looking for something for late night. read more

Taste is 5 stars to me. We LOVE Taste! But, I can not give this location 5 stars because of a few things. My biggest complaint is the parking. There are only a few spots right by the door. Otherwise, you pay to park in a spot in the street! Taste is always busy, so this is a HUGE inconvenience! I also think they could upgrade the bathroom and keep it cleaner (like the Shore Dr location). Other than that, their food is awesome and I always get good service. read more

Soooo good! I wish we'd gotten a chance to come here more than once. I got the beach club sandwich which was giant and tasted fresh and awesome (plus it had avocado, yummm!). I also got a lemon bar, which was basically to die for. My boyfriend got the Hilltop sandwich which was also giant and a 7-layer bar. They have a bunch of different kinds of chips, I got the Sweet Maui onion (very good) and he got the Mild Green Pepper chips, both were really good. It was about $25 for everything. There's a small section of tables to sit at. There's also a section of gourmet food and a take-away section of pre-made food.
